Speaking From Our Hearts

On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast, Paul and Rebecca Wheele are joined by Joe Howe and Tom Michler, to talk about why it's so important to give youth a sporting chance in life. KEY TAKEAWAYS The multitude of benefits that a child can gain from the experience of being given a sporting chance in life. These include the socialization, the feeling of being – that they belong – is so important for our programme, that activity itself. But, for Joe and I, once you become a part of the St. Louis soccer community you're part of it forever, and it's a wonderful experience of community. We saw a gap with the pay-to-play model, a lot of children that just wouldn't get that opportunity and we knew what the game had done for us, we really wanted to fill that gap. We've both played on teams where there was a lot of talent but it didn't always work. It works when there's an orchestration and you have that experience and success, that's a very powerful experience. The experience of belonging really grounds you and when you see those guys years later it's alive and well in you. That's what we're looking to provide via the field; a sense of belonging while playing sports and having fun also. There's a lot of groups teaching soccer. The important thing is how we go about it and what we're emphasizing in the setting. My background is in mental health and more and more we pay attention to the environment a child is growing up in. The nature vs nurture argument has really moved into environment vs genetics. Our intention is to create a particular environment intentionally that is inclusive, safe and fun. You can't coach every kid the same. Some kids respond to you challenging them and some kids not so much, they can be shy and need coaxing into it. You have to notice that, and some kids really have a load they're carrying so you really have to watch it and really work with them and be conscientious of what they're going through. BEST MOMENTS ‘Let the game be the teacher not only for soccer but for life.' ‘The great thing about sport is it's the great equalizer, if you can play you can play and it doesn't matter where you're from.' ‘We build our goals wider, purposefully, to promote scoring. When a child has the experience of scoring a goal and they tell us about it, you see it in their eyes. From then on that child gets more assertive both in the play and with other kids around them too.' ‘Nothing beats when you teach a kid a new skill and you see the lights go on in them, that's the greatest thing ever and makes it all worth it.' When does a male quit being a boy and enter manhood? The answer has little to do with his age, Ryan Michler says. Michler, the host of the “Order of Man” podcast and author of the new book “The Masculinity Manifesto: How a Man Establishes Influence, Credibility, and Authority,” has a simple definition for when a boy becomes a man. “A boy consumes more than he produces, and a man produces more than he consumes,” he says. “When you are producing more than you consume—meaning, you're able to give value to the people and others around you—you are acting like a man. That's manly behavior,” the author says, adding, “We would call that individual a man.” Michler joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss his new book and how males can become men of influence as fathers, husbands, and leaders within their workplace and community. KNOW FEAR with Tony Blauer

How to save America (and the rest of the world) I've known Ryan Michler for some time now. I've watched him grow his business, improve his writing, fitness, mindset, and razor-sharp messaging on social media, but probably the most impressive thing I've witnessed is the impact (and influence) he's had on his family. I watched his son Brecken transform before my eyes (online). One day, I reached out to Ryan and asked him if I could interview Brecken for KNOW FEAR. He agreed to it, but we needed to wait for our schedules to line up. (I didn't know they had been planning to launch a podcast called Man In The Making - which you'll learn about soon enough - the title is self-explanatory.) So what's the connection to the subject line and Ryan? What do I mean “Save America and the rest of the world”? Simple: Our future rests on the shoulders of our kids, and if we don't prepare them, then we will have failed them. This, of course, should be any parent's goal, but something has shifted in the last 30 years and things are very bizarre. What is happening in our schools? And not just our schools. Look at all the lying, manipulation, and deception going on everywhere, from news stations to doctors, to politicians, to influencers, the list is endless. Look at how entitled, disrespectful, and selfish people have become. And then there's the other chunk of the population that is lacking basic critical thinking skills. Things are a mess. This isn't just from the last 2+ years, this has been building for decades. What do most of these people have in common? Parents and conventional education. PSA: If you don't see that there is something drastically wrong with the world, leaders, parents and kids, then you must not be reading this because you are not online. I digress, and I want to get you listening to the podcast, so I'm keeping this short. One last story. When I took custody of my son Nick, he was just 3 months old. I did not know what I was doing. I read books and articles on parenting to help me navigate my fear and uncertainty. Three quotes stopped me in my tracks. I wrote them down 30 years ago and carried them with me. And I always shared them when discussing parenting with friends willing to listen along the way. Here they are. I hope they impact you the way they did me. “I always want to meet the parents, it helps me forgive the children,” - Unknown Therapist “Nothing affects a child's life more than a parent's unlived life.” - adapted from Carl Jung “I never wanted my child to look at me and see a liar.” - Sean Penn Each quote had a deep impact. #1 means it's the parents' responsibility to ensure their kids are response-able. #2 If you don't respect your purpose, passion, etc., it will impact how you raise your family. #3 Be true to yourself, develop self-awareness, do your best to grow and evolve. (And please don't email me about your opinion on Sean Penn, I don't care.

At the beginning of the current pandemic, colleagues from two German universities analysed critical situations in digital teaching-learning processes from the perspective of lecturers, students, and pupils in higher education and vocational education institutions. We conducted the study in June 2020. We found that the development towards virtual teaching scenarios, which has become a necessity under the current conditions, will also have an enormous impact on teaching and learning processes in the future in terms of didactics tailored to different learning groups and needs in and outside the classroom. In this podcast, I will give a brief summary of the most intriguing results. We will start with a description of the study background and methodology to analyse critical teaching and learning situations. Afterwards, I will present some findings and conclusions. It's an incredibly fun chat between two SAHMs regarding all things mom-life and the importance of doing things you enjoy outside of motherhood. This conversation came about incredibly last minute, which makes it even more fun. I had no idea we were both starting up our homeschool programs on the same day, and I decided we HAD to chat about what we each did to prepare, goals for the year, curriculum choices, and what our day-to-day structure will (hopefully) look like. We chat about the struggles, frustrations, and challenges homeschool brings. And of course, we share the absolute beauty and flexibility it allows as well. It's uncomfortable and challenging, but if you want to live your best life you have to dig in and do the work. Ryan Michler, a successful business leader and founder of Order of Man, has set a tremendous example of how to do this and he illustrates it nicely in his book, Sovereignty, the battle for the hearts and minds of men. In his book, Michler leads with defining and expressing the need for men to live sovereign lives. He follows with a reflective analysis of what it takes to get there, providing a code of conduct and a battle plan. From the ABC's  Bush Telegraph with Cameron Wilson, Young Australian volunteers unwittingly paying to prop up 'cruel' canned hunting industry: South African conservationist. oung Australian volunteers are flying to South Africa and helping to raise lion cubs in the belief that they are going to be released back into the wild, only for those lions to be used purely for canned hunting purposes. That is the allegation of Ian Michler, a South African journalist and conservationist who has lobbied internationally to close down the canned hunting industry. 'A lot of young students are being lured over there, they are paying up to $1,000 a week to breeders to go and work in these properties on the grounds that they are doing something constructive for conservation,' said Mr Michler. 'It's a con.' Canned hunting takes place in confined environments, where animals, most commonly lions, have been bred to be killed. It differs from more traditional 'fair-chase' hunting, where the hunt takes place in an area large enough for the animal to have a chance of escape. 'In this day and age, where everything is on demand, canned hunting is a form where you can get your animal a lot cheaper, you can get it in a shorter period of time, and it is guaranteed,' said Mr Michler. 'The animal has no chance of escape.'   Thank you to the ABC's  Bush Telegraph for this Audio
