Our Syria correspondents travelled to the country's western coastal province of Latakia, which was the scene of the shocking massacre of civilians from the Alawite minority between March 7 and 9. They bring us this exclusive report.
According to the Associated Press, groups representing South Africa's white minority rejected President Donald Trump's offer of refugee status in the U.S., saying, “thanks, but no thanks.” Trump's executive order, signed Friday, halted all aid to South Africa, citing “rights violations” against white citizens. His administration accused the government of permitting attacks on white Afrikaner farmers and passing a law that enables property seizures without compensation. South Africa denied these claims, calling them misinformation. Afrikaner groups dismissed Trump's offer, stating their commitment to staying in South Africa. Trump's sanctions, backed by his South African-born adviser Elon Musk, sparked criticism, with South Africa's Foreign Ministry highlighting that whites remain economically privileged. Voters in Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim democracy, have cast their ballots to elect a new president. In this country of 270 million people, where Sunni Muslims are the majority, some 12 percent of the population belong to religious minorities: Christians, Shiites, Buddhists and Hindus, among others. This mosaic of religious communities has historically lived together in peace. But over the past two decades, radical Sunni groups have targeted minorities, with more than 600 incidences of violence documented since 2014. Largely ignored during the election campaign, minority groups now wonder who and what awaits them. Our team on the ground reports.

Malaysia has a unique take on positive discrimination. While most affirmative action programs are aimed at promoting opportunities for ethnic and religious minorities, the Malaysian government has implemented a system that favours the country's majority, Malay Muslims, who account for nearly 70 percent of the population. These policies have proved to be harmful for descendants of minority groups in Malaysia, such as Chinese and Indians.

Synopsis: Twice a month, The Straits Times examines the ins and outs of pop culture in the Asian entertainment and Hollywood scene. In this episode of #PopVultures, Jan Lee talks about the most popular K-drama of late -Extraordinary Attorney Woo - and the well-received local Channel 8 series Your World In Mine. Both shows feature protagonists who are neurodivergent.
