Matthew Miskin, co-chief investment strategist at John Hancock Investment Management, says that the current stock market has been driven to record highs on the back of strong earnings that have overpowered economic concerns, but he notes that the stock market bubble that inflated during the Internet boom of the late 1990s grew on the backs of companies with no real earnings. As a result, with IPOs like SpaceX dominating the headlines, Miskin is preaching caution, noting that these attention-grabbing stocks are coming public without profits. Miskin says that's a rising risk, but that inflation is less of a risk than it was just a few months ago, and he believes there may be pockets of downturn or slowdown, but that should push investors to diversify, rather than to overhaul a portfolio or back away from equities. Todd Rosenbluth, head of research at VettaFi, looks at a free-cash flow factor fund that has a stellar track record and that will celebrate its third birthday next week for his ETF of the Week. The birthday is important because it makes the fund eligible for ratings that will signal its stellar performance even more strongly to investors. Ken Burdon, partner in the registered fund practice at Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett, discusses a recent Supreme Court ruling that's a game-changer for activist investors in closed-end funds.  Critics of activism have long held that professional arbitrageurs used federal courts to pressure closed-end funds into deals that benefit activists' at the expense of the long-term objectives of ordinary shareholders. Burdon says the decision  doesn't stop the activists from pursuing cases but removes a key path that activists took to pursue their actions much more quickly and easily.

Prahalad merupakan paradigma revolusioner yang melihat masyarakat termiskin di dunia bukan sebagai beban sosial, melainkan sebagai pasar yang dinamis dan penuh potensi. Dengan populasi mencapai miliaran orang yang hidup dengan pendapatan rendah, kelompok ini memiliki daya beli kolektif yang sangat besar namun sering kali diabaikan oleh perusahaan multinasional karena dianggap tidak menguntungkan dan sulit dijangkau. Pemerintah diprotes habis-habisan karena menonaktifkan 13,5 juta peserta Penerima Bantuan Iuran (PBI) BPJS Kesehatan. Seperti yang sudah-sudah, protes harus sampai viral dulu, baru pemerintah bergerak membenahi. Kepesertaan belasan juta warga itu akhirnya direaktivasi, tak lupa dengan memberi dalih soal pemutakhiran data nasional oleh Kementerian Sosial.Dampak buruk kekacauan ini ditanggung warga miskin yang harusnya dilindungi negara, dibayar lewat kepanikan ratusan pasien gagal ginjal yang tak dapat mengakses layanan cuci darah. Komunitas Pasien Cuci Darah Indonesia (KPCDI) menemukan setidaknya 150 kasus di berbagai daerah seperti Banten, Bekasi, Cirebon, Yogyakarta, Aceh, Kendari hingga Papua. Tercatat ada 200 ribu lebih pasien cuci darah berdasarkan data Kementerian Kesehatan, mayoritas bergantung pada skema PBI.Dampak nyata serupa juga dialami warga miskin lain yang sedang berjuang melawan penyakit-penyakit berat berbiaya mahal. Laporan Bank Dunia tentang jumlah warga miskin RI, yang melonjak menjadi 194,7 juta orang atau 68,3 persen penduduk Indonesia menjadi polemik, karena berbeda dengan data BPS. Pasalnya, berdasar rilis BPS, tingkat kemiskinan Indonesia per September 2024, hanya sebesar 8,57% atau sekitar 24,06 juta jiwa. Lonjakan tsb terjadi, karena Bank Dunia menggunakan standar garis kemiskinan baru, yakni Purchasing Power Parities (PPP) 2017 sebesar Rp. 546ribu, ke PPP 2021, yakni Rp 1,51 juta per bulan. Ketua DEN, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan menyatakan pemerintah tengah melakukan penyusunan perhitungan terbaru garis kemiskinan di Indonesia. Bagaimana pemerintah harus merespon data kemiskinan tsb? Matt Miskin, co-chief investment strategist at John Hancock Investment Management, says that several European nations are in recession while their stock markets are pushing through record highs, in conditions so unusual that U.S. activities are helping foreign multinationals keep rolling. Still, Miskin believes the U.S. is the best market, though he is now skewing the portfolio toward mid-cap names, pulling back slightly on the mega-cap giants over valuation concerns and leaning into bonds for the safety of consistent returns in excess of 5 percent. Matt Harris, chief investment officer at The Hausberg Group, turns the conversation to technicals, and while he believes that "There's not much that is more bullish than all-time highs," he thinks returns will be muted for 2024. Plus, Dana Staggs, president of ArrowMark Financial Corp., discusses how investments in the banking business through something called "regulatory capital relief securities" can  both juice and stabilize returns, and Christopher Zook, president, CAZ Investments returns to the show, talking thematic investing at a reasonable price in the Market Call.

From Diplomacy to Startup DynamismTom Miskin's journey is a testament to the transformative power of career shifts. With a background in international diplomacy and a stint at the British foreign office in Oslo, his introduction to the startup world came unexpectedly during a royal visit. As Tom recalls, "We introduced them to, I think, four startups, including reMarkable... and No Isolation ...helping children that are unable to go to school because of illness." This pivotal moment opened Tom's eyes to the burgeoning startup scene in Oslo, leading him to his current role in fostering innovation.Embracing Digital in Times of CrisisWhen the pandemic hit, Tom had just taken the helm of Oslo Innovation Week. The sudden shift to a digital world posed challenges but also opened new doors. As Tom describes, “We had to pivot like all other events...so we managed hybrid. Again, that was new and difficult and challenging, but also an opportunity because you did actually manage to attract international attendees online that may not have traveled.” This ability to adapt has proven crucial in maintaining the event's relevance and reach.The Ecosystem's Evolution: Scale-ups Taking Center StageThe startup ecosystem in Oslo has matured significantly, with Tom noting a shift in focus from startups to scale-ups. "Startups have gotten a lot of the support they need and it's meant a natural move towards us supporting the scale-up ecosystem," he explains. This evolution reflects the growth and increasing sophistication of the entrepreneurial landscape in Oslo, which now boasts over 200 scale-up companies and a significant contribution to job creation.International Capital: Fueling Norway's InnovationDespite the common perception of Norway as a country flush with funds, Tom highlights a surprising gap: "There is lots of money in Norway...but not VC." He elaborates on the cultural and historical reasons for this, and the strategic pivot toward sustainable and impactful startups as Norway transitions away from oil and gas. “We're very reliant on international VC capital in Oslo and in Norway,” Tom adds, underscoring the international community's role in fueling local innovation.Oslo Innovation Week: A Community-Centric ApproachOslo Innovation Week stands out with its unique, crowdsourced format. "It's a collaboration with the ecosystem in Oslo and beyond," says Tom. With events free to attend and no charge for companies to participate, Oslo Innovation Week fosters a community spirit. Al-Insan ("Human") (alternative names: al-Dahr, "Endless time", Hal Ata, "Has There Not come") is the 76th chapter of the Quran, with 31 verses Recitation by Muhammad A hadith narrated by Abu Hurayra said that Muhammad used to recite Al-Insan together with As-Sajdah (chapter 32 of the Quran) for the early morning prayer (fajr) every Friday This report also appears in Tafsir Ibn Kathir The Noble Quran 1 Has there not been over man a period of time, when he was nothing to be mentioned? 2 Verily, We have created man from Nutfah drops of mixed semen (discharge of man and woman), in order to try him, so We made him hearer, seer 3 Verily, We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful 4 Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers iron chains, iron collars, and a blazing Fire 5 Verily, the Abrar (pious, who fear Allah and avoid evil), shall drink a cup (of wine) mixed with water from a spring in Paradise called Kafur 6 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah will drink, causing it to gush forth abundantly 7 They (are those who) fulfill (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil will be wide-spreading 8. And they give food, inspite of their love for it (or for the love of Him), to Miskin (poor), the orphan, and the captive, 9 (Saying): “We feed you seeking Allah's Countenance only. We wish for no reward, nor thanks from you 10 “Verily, We fear from our Lord a Day, hard and distressful, that will make the faces look horrible (from extreme dislikeness to it)” 11 So Allah saved them from the evil of that Day, and gave them Nadratan (a light of beauty) and joy 12 And their recompense shall be Paradise, and silken garments, because they were patient 13 Reclining therein on raised thrones, they will see there neither the excessive heat of the sun, nor the excessive bitter cold, (as in Paradise there is no sun and no moon) 14 And the shade thereof is close upon them, and the bunches of fruit thereof will hang low within their reach 15 And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and cups of crystal, 16 Crystal-clear, made of silver. They will determine the measure thereof according to their wishes 17 And they will be given to drink there a cup (of wine) mixed with Zanjabil (ginger, etc), 18 A spring there, called Salsabil 19 And round about them will (serve) boys of everlasting youth. If you see them, you would think them scattered pearls 20 And when you look there (in Paradise), you will see a delight (that cannot be imagined), and a great dominion 21 Their garments will be of fine green silk, and gold embroidery. They will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a pure drink 22 (And it will be said to them): “Verily, this is a reward for you, and your endeavour has been accepted” 23 Verily! It is We Who have sent down the Qur'an to you (O Muhammad ) by stages 24 Therefore be patient (O Muhammad ) and submit to the Command of your Lord (Allah, by doing your duty to Him and by conveying His Message to mankind), and obey neither a sinner nor a disbeliever among them 25 And remember the Name of your Lord every morning and afternoon [i.e. offering of the Morning (Fajr), Zuhr, and ‘Asr prayers] 26 And during night, prostrate yourself to Him (i.e. the offering of Maghrib and ‘Isha' prayers), and glorify Him a long night through (i.e. Tahajjud prayer) 27 Verily! These (disbelievers) love the present life of this world, and put behind them a heavy Day (that will be hard) 28 It is We Who created them, and We have made them of strong built. And when We will, We can replace them with others like them with a complete replacement 29 Verily! This (Verses of the Qur'an) is an admonition, so whosoever wills, let him take a Path to his Lord (Allah) 30 But you cannot will, unless Allah wills. Verily, Allah is Ever All-Knowing, All-Wise 31 He will admit to His Mercy whom He will and as for the Zalimun, (polytheists, wrong-doers, etc) He has prepared a painful torment
