Seasonal Eating and Detoxing: Dr. Elson Haas It is time to consciously and actively stop feeding the ‘sickcare health system' and devote time and presence to your healthcare. “Self-care first! Accept personal accountability for your health.” Dr. Haas suggests starting with a two-week guided detox for physical re-balancing. Regular or seasonal detoxing brings you deeper into yourself as you experience emotional and mental reactions to change habits. Taking a break from stimulants such as sugar, caffeine, alcohol/THC and other mood elevators, effects profound changes in all areas of our lives when we make a commitment to stopping use, even if just for a few weeks. Staying Healthy With the Seasons: Order Here The Detox Diet: Order Here Considered to be one of the “Fathers of Integrative Medicine,” Dr. Haas developed an integrative approach to healing that incorporates Natural, Eastern, and Western medical approaches, or what he calls “NEW Medicine.” He is the author of 11 books, including his seminal book from 1981, Staying Healthy with the Seasons, which is one of the first books to integrate Eastern healing traditions with Modern Western medical practice. Nothing is certain but death and taxes.Death is coming for all of us, but why are we so afraid of talking about it?As a doctor, most of my job has been about saving people. Saving people from harm to their body or mind and alleviating suffering. But what if some of our choices are causing more suffering? What if by sterilising and ignoring the process of death we now just see death as failure?Medical care has come so far in the last century where far fewer people die in childhood and many are living well into their 90s.But how we in Modern Western society approach death, dying and living has changed drastically with the growing trend of death denialism and a lack of opportunity for people to just talk about death. On this episode we bring on Treza Gallogly, a death doula. Doulas have been popularised as a support person and advocate for women in pregnancy helping to bring life into the world. Now there is a growing need for that support in dying. As a death doula Treza walks with her clients who are making their last journey into death, helping them and their families navigate the next chapter. But helping people through their dying months, weeks, or days is not just about death, it is about living. When we start becoming less uncomfortable with approaching death, this is the moment when we really start to live.

A crucial aspect of Christian discipleship is learning how to follow Christ faithfully regardless of the culture we find ourselves in. At times in history, Christians have found themselves both on the outside and on the inside of cultural power. But today, things are a little more complicated. And that leads us to ask the question, Is our culture more progressive or more conservative? How you answer this question often has everything to do with your general outlook, but it's an important question to consider if we're going to really understand and navigate the complexities of life in the modern West as those whose desire is, above all, to be faithful to the Lord Jesus. This episode is the first of a new series we'll be doing here at Reformed Podmatics right alongside with our other ongoing series, Exploring the Reformed Tradition. Visit www.almondvalley.org for information about Almond Valley Christian Reformed Church in Ripon, CA. Music by Jonathan Ogden used with permission.
Do the British understand what kind of culture they had, or what they want? Fighting for a mere absence isn’t enough to sustain for long. Modern Western nation-states are inherently weak to invasion because of their self-loathing posture.
In this episode, Dr. Lisa Rasking, D.C., Vaidya Mishra's accomplished student and research collaborator, explains the dangers of consuming vegetables from the nightshade family. These veggies, which include eggplants, bell peppers, tomatoes, and potatoes, contain several neurotoxic substances, like nicotine and particularly solanine. These toxic chemicals are produced by the plants to protect themselves from insects and are in reality nature's-made pesticides, which modern laboratories utilize to manufacture rat poison and herbicides. Solanine, which accumulates in the body's involuntary muscle tissues and the intestines' lining, is directly related to osteoporosis and general calcium and vitamin D deficiency. It “deviates” the calcium causing it to accumulate and build up in the wrong tissues instead of being put to work on building healthy bones. It also interferes with neuronal synapses and affects our joints among several other disruptions. Modern Western research is corroborating today what the ancient sutras of ayurveda knew since time immemorial and Vaidya Mishra learned from his father and ancestors in his Shaka Vanshyia lineage of healers. This lecture was recorded from a live event with in-person and remote participants (via phone connection) and is included on the DVD set “Principles of SVA Food” available for purchase at Chandika.com.

In recent years, the number of young people identifying as trans has doubled. However, a common misinterpretation arises, suggesting that this surge implies a new phenomenon of being trans or gender non-conforming. Modern Western culture has strongly insisted on the conventional belief that the gender binary is natural, fostering the false assumption that human culture and history have always revolved around this binary. In reality, humans worldwide have expressed gender concepts outside that binary as far back as the 8th century BC. This week, Adam engages in conversation with Dr. Kit Heyam, author of "Before We Were Trans: A New History of Gender," to explore gender expressions of the past and move beyond the limited modern view of gender. A true pioneer in the MWSD activity, Bob Osgood, presented the history of our dance in 1979. His presentation was captured on cassette and has been cleaned up in our studio for you. Bob picks up the timeline post World War II, as Modern Western Square Dancing was pulling away from the folk dance groups of the time. Rather than being part of an evening of folk dances where teaching was done every time the dance was presented, MWSD set the standard that dancers had to know the fundamental dances, which involved taking lessons for about six weeks. In this way, every group get-together was dancing, rather than learning and re-learning the fundamentals. There is an audio sample of Bob Osgood calling at the end of his presentation.

Hey Stefan, possible case of family annihilator in UK. Emma Pattison (she was headteacher of Epsom college) and her daughter were shot dead by the husband who then killed himself. Why are some men family annihilators? What drives them to do this?Hey Stefan, how can I identify my own manipulations with my child or to say it in another way how do I know if I am inadvertently manipulating my toddler? Also what are your thoughts on couple counseling?Thank you ~why don't people blame the parents of early adult suicide victims for being terrible parents?I can think of some surface reasons like "don't want to get busted for being a bad parent" but is there something deeper?Would you be interested in polling your listeners according to sex, age, continent of origin, relationship status etc.Someone mentioned in a thread here on Locals that the majority of your listeners are young, single men. Is that really so?How can I better negotiate with my 4 year old son who is reflexively disagreeable. My wife and I are committed to peaceful parenting, but his lack of cooperation are disruptive to daily activities, family outings, etc. He gets plenty of one on one parent and group family time to explore relationships and dynamics. Thanks!Could you explain the causes of the Industrial Revolution? I've heard you make the case that morality drove innovation, specifically the ending of slavery in 1833, which allowed for new cotton-based agricultural labour saving devices in the late 19th and early 20th century. How would you explain the creation of other labour-saving devices prior to 1833? What were the moral conditions that allowed textile based machinery, the steam engine and machine tools to be created whilst slavery was still widely practiced in the Industrial Revolution? If you could timeline starting from the Roman Empire until 1833 the increasing moral standards and the subsequent technological advancements? Is it really cause and effect? Or can an argument be made that morality and innovation are independent from each other? And can you reiterate why the process isn't reversed (labour saving devices lead to increased moral standards).Thank you Stef! Why might a father and/or mother continue to feign amnesia of their abusive behavior rather than apologize to their children, knowing their children no longer accept these lies? My oldest brother has drifted away, 2nd has DFOO'd while leaving an open door should they choose to apologize, and I am currently apartment hunting in preparation of DFOO'ing. What do they have to gain that is worth losing all their sons and grandchildren?Modern Western women have an almost superhuman ability to sense which men are and are not having regular sex, and then they typically are only receptive to the advances of the more promiscuous and thus confident men. Many men report “dry spells” due to this feedback loop, and it even affects well-meaning men seeking a partner for a long term relationship. How can an otherwise attractive man break out of this vicious cycle?Would you agree that if young people share their privacy so eagerly in social media, they will also not mind giving up their privacy to the state and therefore increase its power? You have suggested that in a stateless society, ostracism would play a role in preventing or punishing crimes. The collectivist Left has been using this tactic for years, and it's a method that is tearing down society. Obviously the collectivist Left is completely irrational, and the people ostracizing like they do suffer from public schooling and other mind destroying institutions, but does this make you concerned about the role of ostracism in a stateless society? (While writing this message, it occurred to me that maybe this is also proof of it's effectiveness, when applied in a RATIONAL society

The Western! An film genre that easily evokes images of gunslingers, lawmen, and the Old West. Names like Clint Eastwood and John Wayne might immediately come to mind and their classic westerns of the 60s and 70s. Tonight however we want to discuss the more modern ventures in the western genre. Films that span the last 30 years or so without examining the films of the 60s, 70s, and 80s these newer westerns have become modern classics. Films like Tombstone, the 2007 3:10 to Yuma, Young Guns 1 & 2. While not traditional there's also Hell or High Water - is it a western? It has many of the hallmarks despite its contemporary setting. Then there is the Academy Award winning Unforgiven an essential farewell to the genre for Eastwood. As Tarantino fans there's Django Unchained and the Hateful Eight, literally too many to discuss but we plan to tackle as many as we can! What are your favorites? What should we watch that we haven't seen? In this week's episode, writer, coach, consultant, and Ironman athlete Charlie Rogers talks about training for a triathlon, overcoming injury, maintaining an Olympic mindset, and building a portfolio career.Listen now on Apple, Spotify, Amazon Music, and YouTube.Chapter Summaries:[00:00:45] Charlie began running at the age of 14 when a coach recognized his raw talent. During his first year at university, he collapsed during a race. A cardiologist informed him that his high heart rates while running could be due to stress.[00:05:31] Biological mechanisms can help facilitate successful conditioning. Exercise creates changes in blood flow, which are detected by a protein called Piezo1. This protein then begins to remodel the vasculature in order to bring more oxygen and nutrition to your muscles, enabling them to grow and recover faster.[00:08:17] Physical exercise is necessary to keep our brains and blood vessels healthy, protect against cognitive decline, and ensure healthy longevity. Modern Western lifestyle isn't conducive to physical activity, so the onus is on us to put in the reps.[00:11:36] Charlie uses fitness trackers to record his workouts and monitor overall health. Tracking too much health data information can become overwhelming. Taking time to be present and sit in solitude can help combat data fatigue.[00:16:11] The oft-quoted goal of 10,000 steps per day has very little scientific backing and began as part of a marketing ploy for a Japanese Pedometer company in the 1960s. The typical daily step count for Charlie while training for triathlons is about 15,000.[00:19:45] We should be mindful of the risk of doing permanent bodily damage by pushing too hard during exercise. Most of us want to live longer but also maintain autonomy into later decades of life. Gaining more muscle during your 20s and 30s can help offset the 1% loss in muscle mass every year after the age of 50.[00:23:09] Charlie tracks his sleep quality using a sleep tracker on his watch but doesn't use this data to directly inform training routines. His coach, however, takes his sleep and body battery data into account.[00:28:14] Fitness trackers can be cost prohibitive and have limitations in terms of accuracy. Consumers are often faced with trade-offs between reliability and affordability.[00:31:17] The quantified self movement was born out of a desire to make sense of health data through n-of-1 experimentation. Accurately guessing our heart rates and listening to hunger cues relies on a skill called interoception, which describes our ability to sense internal signals from our bodies. We can rely on intuition while still being data-driven in our approach to health and fitness.[00:38:03] Charlie describes how he uses delayed gratification to stay motivated and push through obstacles like stomach cramps while running. Abiding by the aphorism “train hard, race easy” can help prevent lactate threshold issues.[00:42:27] Working out in a fasted state can backfire in women by blunting fat oxidation, but consuming adequate protein instead of carbohydrates before a workout can help women see more improvements in strength and lean body mass compared to post-exercise nutrition. It's important to train with the same nutrition with which you intend to race.[00:47:00] As technology continues improving in terms of sportswear, more records will be broken. For example, Eliud Kipchoge's shoes with carbon fiber plates allow runners to rebound faster. Accusations of doping often accompany an athlete's rapid rise to success.[00:50:15] The gut microbiome determines how different foods and drugs are metabolized. Continuous glucose monitoring can help athletes determine which foods will keep their blood sugar levels stable and provide lasting energy.[00:54:40] Charlie has built a portfolio career as a self-employed writer, coach, and consultant. Although he's not a professional athlete, Charlie takes his sport very seriously and invests a significant amount of time and energy into training.[00:57:33] Charlie's Substack newsletter, Mastery in Your 20s, is a self-improvement resource detailing the business skills that one needs in order to create something meaningful in the world. Blogging a book is a great way to obtain real-time audience feedback during the writing process.[01:02:14] The Dawn of Everything dispels myths surrounding the origins of humanity and discusses the erroneous use of the “primitive” label in describing incredibly complex pre-historic societies.Connect with Charlie on LinkedIn, Strava, & Goodreads, and subscribe to his newsletter below! If you'd like to support the show, you can share this post or leave a tip! Modern Western yoga approaches are not based on any particular belief or religion. However, yoga has its roots in Hinduism and Brahmanism. Yoga was developed primarily by seers and asceticists living in southern India. Foreseeers observed nature, lived near the earth, and studied many aspects of nature, animals, and themselves. By observing and imitating the different attitudes and customs of the animal kingdom, they were able to develop elegance, strength and wisdom. Continue reading on procommun.com

In August 2016, director David McKenzie gave us a satisfying modern Western focusing on two bank-robbing brothers played by Chris Pine and Ben Foster nabbing banks all over Texas with at least one Texas Ranger hot on their trail played by Jeff Bridges. This movie proves that Hollywood CAN still make good old-school films like this! It was also written by Taylor Sheridan as part of his “Frontier Trilogy” between Sicario and Wind River. This film nabbed four Oscar nominations, including for Best Picture which is of course lost the award that year to La La Land….wait sorry....I mean Moonlight...
