So I live in a little bubble of small business, doing my thing at home in my bra and pants. It has its own challenges, and sometimes the juggle feels impossible. But I cannot imagine how much harder it would be to have a real job. To have a ‘career'. To get up each day and trek to my workplace in an outfit, dropping my kid off at childcare on the way, trying to seem professional and grown up after 2 hours of sleep with Weetabix on my blouse. Today's guest knows how this feels, and has built an entire business around helping mums pursue their careers and manage their families as well. I can't wait to hear her advice. Tune in to learn: How Carina juggles the small business world, and the big corporate international company world while raising two young kids. Why Carina takes a more relaxed approach with her parenting style How Carina and her husband navigate the organised chaos of work and home life. Why finding time for herself is one of Carina's biggest challenges right now Why talking with other parents can bring up the parent guilt, and how Carina addresses it. How communicating through shared calendars can help your productivity Carina's tip for being better with your money. Tell me if this story resonates with you...Boy meets girl, girl puts boy on pedestal, boy and girl have ___ kids (fill in the blank), girl makes herself the lowest priority, girl loses herself and her power, girl hits crisis point... This was us! Hell, we STILL have mama guilt any time we do something for ourselves and our kids are independent now! It's like there's this feeling as though you're doing something WRONG if you go on a date, spend time with friends or do something for yourself. If this sounds familiar that doesn't have to be the end of the story. Our guest today Tanya Maree Biddle puts a stop to this age old narrative and instead (in her own words) grew a set of balls, learned to ask for what she needs, fought against internal and external resistance and has now become a coach to help other women this her position! Tanya Maree now holds space for women everywhere as a coach and mentor to working mums while they rediscover who they are as their growing children no longer need or want them around anymore and supports them to create the next season of their lives.Tanya is an avid planner and organiser and mentors her clients through a process of planning their personal development so they can create habits, rituals and routines that will move them to action. She is an Accountability & Self Empowerment Mumma Coach (#mouthfull) and is a professionally trained coach for working mums with teenage kids. She specialises in holding space for these beautiful Mummas while they rediscover themselves and supports them to LIVE life on their own terms. In tihs episode, Tanya teaches us to: Stop deprioritizing ourselves. When we make ourselves our last priority we also teach the people around us that we are the lowest priority. BUT, you CAN choose a different path! Understand that reversing the habits that you've created can take time. It's not just training your children and family that they are capable...its also training yourself. Set effective boundaries consistently over time, which requires a lot of gentle reminders and sometimes reevaluation to determine if shifts or adjustments need to be made. Reflect on who you were before you were in your partnership or had children. Ask yourself what were your dreams and aspirations? What did you enjoy doing then. This is a good starting point for rediscovering who you are today. Learn to celebrate when our children reach an age of independence and become self-sufficient. It means we've fulfilled our role as mom and taught them well! I, literally, had a conversation with my sister just last night about the importance of setting boundaries and THIS episode. This week I'm chatting with Tanya Biddle about one of my favourite topics!!! Putting yourself first, taking yourself off the bottom of your "to do" list (if you made it onto the list at all) and why it's your responsibility to make sure that you are making yourself your happiest healthiest self! Tanya is an Accountability & Self Empowerment Mumma Coach. Tanya is a life coach for working mums who struggle to make time for themselves. She supports them to create space in their busy lives to do the things they love (without the mum guilt) and still present Mummas. She claims that her story is not that remarkable.... Boy meets girl, girl puts boy on pedestal, boy and girl have 3 kids, girl makes herself the lowest priority, girl loses herself and her power, girl hits crisis point, girl grows a set (#balls) and asks for what she needs, girl fights against internal and external resistance, girl becomes a coach to help other women in her position. Did you feel that going back to work after kids was a huge adjustment? Had the workforce changed? Had YOU changed? Because feels! We often speak about the huge transition that having children is, but what about the transition we make when we leave our kids at home or in care to head back into our jobs? This week we're joined by the beautiful Maika, Founder of Mumma's Beans coffee. Maika shares her own personal journey with us after having her son which included applying for jobs, landing a high paid job that didn't have the flexibility she was after, then restructuring her life and working arrangements to be able to follow her passion and spend more time with her family. There are so many things to consider when thinking about going back to work, like who will look after the kids, does the pay cover childcare, does your role still fulfil you, and is it even worth it? We chat about all of these questions and share our own personal experiences in this week's episode. Maika has created a beautiful coffee brand that caters perfectly to Mum's in all seasons offering low and no caffeine options. To find out more about Maika and her business, head to www.mummasbeans.com.au or follow her on instagram @mummas_beans Episode Sponsor: This week's episode is sponsored by Milly & Hope, a small business providing beautiful personalised products for keepsakes, decor as well as signage for events and businesses. The world has experienced more change in recent years than in the decades before. Thankfully, one behaviour that is continuing to build its momentum, going from strength to strength, is the shift of conscious purchasing decisions towards eco-friendliness and sustainability. After all, we all have a vision of leaving a better world for our children and it is our responsibility to leave the planet in the best condition we can for our children and generations to come, and I'm not sure we've done a great job of that so far. It's never too late to make the shift to better safeguarding the planet. It makes perfect sense for sustainability to be infused in baby-related products, and for parents to become more conscious consumers when raising their families. If you've got an upcoming baby shower and are racking your brain to think of suitable options for a soon-to-be mum with sustainable values – or simply want more insight on products for your own sustainable child-rearing this is the interview for you. Today I am thrilled to welcome our special guest, Natasha Hughes, an expert in sourcing sustainable, ethically made, plastic-free and non-toxic clothes and Founder and Owner of On Chic Baby Clothes. We ask Natasha questions including: Why you are passionate about the difference sustainability can make to our lives, the environment and our future? Do you think that Sustainability is a lifestyle commitment? How can we best normalise sustainability in the community and push for change? We published your article titled ‘What to get the environmentally-conscious new mum: advice for sustainable gifting' for someone who hasn't read the article yet, please tell us what it's about, and what inspired you to write it. What is the difference between traditional cotton harvesting and organic cotton? How can parents best do their own research in identifying brands that are legitimately backing up their claims of sustainability? What is your definition of what sustainability means? What are the benefits of wooden teethers for babies? How do you choose the right wooden teethers without affecting forest conservation? Why should Mummas choose cloth nappies over traditional single-use nappies? Today we welcome our incredible Sponsor and one of the co-founders of Active Truth. We are such HUGE fans of this company and have both lived in the maternity tights before and after birth. So, we are humbled to chat to Nadia Tucker, who moved to Brisbane on the same day in 2011 and as new her neighbor Stevie (sounds like destiny) and they quickly became friends over baby playdates and long pram walks in search of coffee. Together, they navigated returning to exercise after having their babies and the many changes that their bodies experienced over this time. They were frustrated with buying activewear online and receiving products that looked beautiful on models but didn't perform in real-life on bodies without model proportions, so they decided to take matters into their own hands. This was a common theme when talking with friends and family. So, they set out to create a brand that not only serviced the activewear needs of women, but celebrated them too!Active Truth is committed to showing a diverse range of women wearing their activewear. They want women to look at Active Truth and see someone like themselves – happy, active, looking and feeling amazing in their activewear. They refuse to photoshop their models and continue to challenge stereotypes and bias around body image which we love. Active Truth are proud to work with organisations that support women through their partnerships with Share the Dignity, Body Image Movement, and a number of smaller female-led, or female-focused, charities. We talk about:Pumping and BIG boobiesStarting the business in the living room and sleeping in swags etc.How the 4th Trimester was for Nadia and the challenges that she overcameHow far the business has come and her fave pair of tightsWhat the idea of 'success' means to Nadia and a Businesswoman and MotherThe power of word of mouth and reviews and Mothers sharing the loveThe Most beautiful and Challenging aspects of MotherhoodAdvice to any parent starting a businessMotherhood in 3 words and MORE!This episode is brought to you by Active Truth who Soph and I absolutely LOVE. Courtney was delighted to have fallen pregnant quite straightforwardly after having an ovary removed due to cancer at age 25. Her pregnancy then coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic, which meant she hadn't enjoyed pregnancy as much as she perceived she would have pre COVID. She felt anxiety stricken around giving birth, but found doing hypnobirthing really helped her and her partner understand the science behind birth itself.9 months later, still in lockdown, Courtney had a relatively quick birth with Harper Jean, though did lose control at one point due to uncontrollable vomiting. She hit a stage where she couldn't go any further and so asked for an epidural, but her midwife convinced her she would be quicker to start pushing (much to her disappointment!), and used breathing techniques learnt via hypnobirthing to get her through the contractions.Courtney struggled after birth with her mental health, hormones and emotions, and turned to a psychologist to deal with feelings of isolation and grief. The grief was threefold; grief for her old life, grief around the pregnancy she expected pre COVID and grief for a friendship that was strained due to infertility issues. She thinks new Mumma's should try not to compare themselves to others' situations, and once further into their own journeys… hold back on the unsolicited advice to new Mummas (as hard as it may be!)That being said, she realises now that mothers intuition is 'a thing', and can confirm she now has it!Join me for this honest and uplifting chat with Courtney, and remember you are not alone; it's OK to not be OK. Are there some topics that you tip toe around, hoping they won't impact you? Pelvic floor health is often one of these, but is hugely important to support in your preconception and pregnancy to avoid complications post birth. When it comes to protecting your pelvic floor and your body physically throughout your pregnancy, it is important to advise with a specialist to best support your needs. To get this much needed conversation flowing, I've invited Women's health physiotherapist Anna Scammell onto the podcast. Here's some highlights of what you'll learn from Anna: >> Recommendations for you to physically prepare your body for pregnancy. >> How to adjust and perform pregnancy exercise to support your changing body and set yourself up for birth >> What is abdominal separation and how you can avoid this. >> Why are pelvic floor exercises important to prevent issues post birth and when to begin them. >> What is a prolapse and what the risk factors are for developing a prolapse post birth. >> A women's health physio's perspective on using yoni eggs. >> Suggestions for soon-to-be birthing Mummas pre-birth, to prepare yourself for birth and reduce tearing. >> How to safely push/ breathe down your baby down during birth, to avoid tearing. >> Tips for helping post birth healing. >> When it is recommend to see a womens health physio- even if there are no noticeable issues. How Life is like a video game Join me and Special Guest Ross Mckendrick as we discuss the relationship of devices in the home. I grew up without access to devices I subconsciously expected my kids to live a similar childhood, however, times are different. We are locked down at home surrounded by iPads, computers, laptops, phones, PS4, and initially, I aimed to keep them out of our house and my kids off them completely. That hasn't worked as we progressively have to work together as a family to keep on top of it. Ross willingly shares all his "excuses" on how to get on the devices (which is helpful to me) hahahah as sometimes as a parent running the business from home it's easy to default to yes when you mean NO. Hopefully, this gives parents some insights into how to best work together to navigate these unprecedented times. This podcast is NOT edited as I like you to get it real and raw to show other Mummas out there is DOES not have to be perfect so I left this recording running while interviewing/ wrangling 2 kids at home during the lockdown. I've recently changed how I have been praying and it's changed everything. When I sat down to record my planned out episode this week, I just started crying, the heaviness of the world right now, the division, I'm feeling it all. I wanted to have a little heart to heart because I know so many of you are too. Praying felt like I was just going through the motions, until I changed how I was praying. It's simple, but it's so eye-opening. Listen in to hear the one question I'm now asking when I pray.

Mummas don't let you babies grow up to be Cowboys....or Tuners.....
Kate Monaghan has Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and her wife Holly is immunocompromised, meaning a year of shielding with two young children has been anything but easy! But recent government announcements mean it's all about to change again for this family – one-year-old Gracie is starting nursery and four-year-old Scout is going back to school. And it's a bag of mixed emotions for these two Mummas - relief at the idea of normality and an end to home-schooling (yay!) but also fears about sending their babies into the big wide world alone.... In this episode we chat with Emma, a mother of 3 earth side and 2 angel babies, doctor, and clinical psychologist. Emma believes her children's birth stories were the most transformative moments of her life. She endured two traumatic emergency caesareans and after her second section was diagnosed with CPD and told she could never birth vaginally. After grieving deeply and years of recovery and loss she fell pregnant with her daughter and her instincts drove her to question, to fight, to learn and to listen. She hired a private midwife and had a VBA2C where she realised her power, trust in herself and gained the most incredible respect for birthing Mummas past, present and yet to be.
In this episode you meet us, Emily and Annabelle, two mumma's living in Perth, Western Australia. Don't know about you but for us three working Mummas by the end of the week (sometimes not even mid week) we just need to WINE-DOWN …. oh I mean WIND-DOWN! What better than to combine both! We pour ourselves a glass of wine or three and talanoa, vent, discuss and deliberate about current haps both personal and public. Here is our Samoan/Euro flavoured podcast recipe …. Ingredients: Friends, Wine, Issues, Open mind Recipe: Mix all ingredients together with no script, no measurements and no limits Result: Your guess is as good as mine but we always tend to feel better at the end of it. In this episode we discuss topics of growing up afakasi, church tithing and the Samoan language. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/backofthe135/message
