How do you scale a premium service brand in a saturated industry while maintaining quality, consistency, and culture? Building a luxury home improvement franchise may seem like a high-stakes gamble in an industry plagued by unreliable contractors and inconsistent service. But Nick Lopez, Founder & Steward of LIME Painting, has turned that challenge into a national success story—elevating home services into a premium experience and creating a business model that continues to gain momentum across the U.S. Lopez started his entrepreneurial journey out of necessity, launching a painting business in college to help pay tuition. What began as a way to stay in school became a calling when he noticed a glaring gap in the home improvement space: high-end homeowners had few reliable options for quality craftsmanship and professional service. By focusing on elite clientele and emphasizing consistency, Lopez built what has become a standout luxury home improvement franchise. LIME Painting wasn't designed to compete on price. From the start, the brand positioned itself around delivering value, not volume. Lopez realized that high-end clients didn't just want paint on walls—they wanted trust, responsiveness, and excellence. The LIME model filled that void. Clients praised the company simply for answering the phone and showing up. In an industry where the bar was low, exceeding expectations became a growth engine. Ford Saeks emphasized the value of positioning during the conversation, noting that it takes the same effort to sell a premium service as it does a budget one. That insight aligns with Lopez's strategy: rather than cut corners or race to the bottom, LIME Painting doubled down on quality, communication, and client experience. At the core of LIME's success is a business model designed for scalability. Long before awarding its first franchise, Lopez was focused on building systems. Inspired by The E-Myth Revisited, he used his college years to build out standardized processes that could be replicated across markets. This methodical approach laid the foundation for a franchise system that now spans over 100 awarded territories. The success of LIME Painting as a luxury home improvement franchise is also rooted in its culture. The company's values—Gratitude, Enthusiasm, Tenacity, Love, Integrity, Mission, Excellence, and Discipline—form the acronym GET LIME and serve as a compass for every team member and franchise partner. These values aren't tucked away in an employee handbook. They inform how the business shows up in every market and how it delivers what Lopez calls “happiness” to clients. The franchise's growth has not come without challenges. Lopez addressed current concerns around supply chain volatility, shifting immigration policies that affect labor availability, and ongoing changes in product regulations. These complexities are part of what makes the model so valuable. LIME's ability to navigate external pressures while maintaining high standards is a direct reflection of its disciplined structure and strategic foresight. Lopez credits much of LIME's operational success to recognizing his own role as a visionary. By building a team of integrators and leaders who execute the brand's mission at every level, he's ensured the company remains agile and focused. This clarity has allowed LIME to grow without losing sight of the customer or the culture that defines its brand. The customer experience isn't a marketing tagline at LIME Painting—it's a measurable standard. From branded vehicles and professional uniforms to personalized touches like delivering key lime pie after project completion, every step reinforces the brand's premium identity. Clients aren't just hiring a painter; they're engaging a team that treats their property and their time with the highest level of professionalism. LIME Painting has positioned itself as the leading luxury home improvement franchise by addressing the gaps in an industry where high-end service was once rare. The brand's growth is proof that when value is clearly communicated and consistently delivered, scaling becomes a byproduct of trust and performance. Watch the full interview on YouTube. Nick Lopez attended Arvada West High School and left Colorado as a wide-eyed first-generation college student to work on a BS in business marketing from Michigan State University. His plan was to walk on to the wrestling team, which would ultimately pay for the cost of tuition and living. The reality was that a scholarship was a couple of years away, so Nick made the tough decision to hang up his wrestling shoes for an entrepreneurial endeavor to support the cost of his education. At the age of 19, Nick founded his first painting LLC, and every summer thereafter he painted homes to help pay for tuition, books, and cost of living. By doing so, Nick developed a real passion and love for the craft of home improvement. In his third year as the owner of the company, the “light bulb” went off. He realized that those years of painting didn't have to be his last, and that a future in the home improvement industry he had grown to love, made sense. From that point forward, Nick focused himself on building a business that would set the standard for excellence in painting and home improvement. Upon graduation, Nick and his soon-to-be wife moved back to Colorado to start their family. Soon after, Nick launched LIME Painting in Denver. He created, developed, and perfected a game-changing business model for consistently delivering exceptionally high-quality home improvement services. High-quality people were the secret to LIME's early and ongoing success. They have been the key to making LIME the special home service company that customers have been searching for. LIME has perfected a partnership model that appeals to the most talented professional painters within a market and marries them directly to clients for exceptional craftsmanship. Through it all, Nick has retained the passion for excellence that inspired him to build LIME.
As a college student, Nick Lopez started a painting business to pay for his education. However, after reading the book "The E-Myth Revisited" Nick was inspired by the potential of the franchise model. This experience inspired Nick to explore franchising further, and eventually growing Lyme Painting into the scalable business it has become. Nick's story highlights how passion, adaptability, and a willingness to learn, can lead to unexpected opportunities in the world of franchising. Nick also describes how his entrepreneurship journey is guided by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, thereby making him the Founder and Steward of the business, as opposed to Founder and CEO. Nick and Stan talk too about how the unique competitive advantage of the business is in its market segmentation. Nick was intrigued by the lack of national players focused on the high-end homeowner market, which led him to pursue a scalable franchise model in this segment of the home improvement space. Nick Lopez, this week on Franchise TOday.

In this episode of The Franchise Life, Nick Lopez, Founder of LIME Painting, joins Stacie. Nick's passion for his business and the owners in his franchise system comes through in spades as he shares how he got his start during college and continued to build upon that foundation to what would become LIME Painting. LIME Painting was established in 2014 and started franchising in 2018. Today, LIME Painting has grown to 80 locations nationwide and is continuing its growth year over year. Although the painting industry is competitive, LIME Painting has found its niche by focusing on high-end painting, coating, surface restoration, and contracting service providers targeting homes and businesses valued within the top 30% of their market. During the podcast, Nick and Stacie touch on "culture" and its role in the franchise system. It doesn't go without notice that LIME isn't just some catchy name. It's an acronym that highlights the values of the business. LIME = Love, Integrity, Mission + Excellence. Nick shares that if “he didn't define the culture of the business by default, it would be defined for him.” So he intentionally identified the business's values and what it stood for from Day 1. Nick rounds out the podcast by addressing a topic that prevents many prospective entrepreneurs from taking the first step into franchise ownership "FEAR." Fear can be debilitating for some individuals, but not for Nick. Nick states he "has the distinct privilege to look fear head-on and define it daily." This outlook on fear has allowed Nick to reach new heights in his success and assist countless others in reaching their business ownership goals through franchising. As a LIME Painting franchise owner, you can utilize their brand recognition, established customer base, and proprietary software to streamline operations and grow your business. There is significant potential for revenue and expansion with opportunities for both residential and commercial painting services. LIME Painting's commitment to exceptional quality and customer service has helped them develop a strong reputation and a loyal customer base. The expectations for Andy Khalil were fairly high when he joined the Pleasant Valley High boys soccer team last season as a junior.Khalil had his moments for the Vikings during the season as they advanced to the CIF Northern California Regional semifinals. At other times though, Khalil felt the strain of living up to the expectations that came with earning a varsity spot.Once the season was over, Khalil took it upon himself to ask coaches — both from PV and his Chico Cal Soccer Club team — what he needed to improve on. Behind the scenes, he dedicated the offseason to work on those things with the hope that he would earn a full-time starting role. When he returned for his senior season, his progression was evident to PV head coach Nick Lopez. Not only did Khalil earn a starting position in the defensive midfield, but he was also named one of the Vikings' four captains.Read more at: https://www.chicoer.com/tag/prep-athlete-of-the-week/.

A few weeks back, the show featured designer Lori Dennis in a conversation that was recorded from her amazing Los Angeles area headquarters. Lori and I covered a lot of ground about her background and her remarkable rise as one of the worlds best interior designers and phenomenally talented business professionals. I wanted to learn more about Lori’s process and invited her to be a guest at our first Convo By Design Green Room Project from the WestEdge Design Fair. The project was recorded live in the Convo By Design studios, presented by Snyder Diamond, designed by Kelley Jackson Interior Design, built by the Warner Bros Property Department and upholstery shop. The following conversation features some of Lori’s favorite projects. These case studies were also filmed and you can see the projects Lori is speaking of by going to the Convo By Design YouTube channel. I wanted you to hear about these amazing projects and have the chance to see what we are talking about. Thank you for listening. If you like what you hear, and I hope you do, please go to “Ratings and Reviews” on iTunes, leave us a not and a positive review. Please know, it isn’t an ego boost. Positive ratings helps us attract new listeners to the podcast.. and it is very much appreciated. Enjoy this conversation, by design with Lori Dennis. and one of the new elements to the podcast this year. We will feature a spotlight on new and interesting products to add to your list of resources. Here is artist Nick Lopez of Nick Lopez Studio dot com and Nick creates art and furniture from reclaimed wood using a really interesting technique that is more jigsaw puzzle creation and assembly than it is woodworking. It is actually both and he has produced some really interesting pieces that you might want to include in your next project, home remodel or set design. How To Buy A Franchise Show | Dr. John Hayes provides insight on how to buy and operate a franchise
Nick Lopez studied business at Michigan State University and discovered franchising in the process. To cover the costs of tuition, books and living expenses, Lopez launched a residential and commercial painting business in Michigan and catered to custom home owners. Much to his surprise, he found a welcoming market and after three years of operating the business he decided it was time to get serious. That’s when he sought out mentors to help him develop a long-term business plan and that experience eventually led to franchising. After graduation he returned to his home state of Colorado and opened LIME Painting in Denver with every intention of building a national franchise company. He has since opened a second unit in Boulder and he plans to begin franchising the opportunity in fall 2017. Lopez visited with Dr. John P. Hayes during the 2017 International Franchise Expo in New York City.
