GUESTS for this Episode: David Osmond & Amberli NelsonCome Follow Me (CHRISTMAS SPECIAL) Book of Mormon EvidenceHosted by Rod Meldrum - Author & International Speaker - The FIRM FoundationSupport the show (http://www.bookofmormonevidencestreaming.com)~~~~~~~~~~~~David Levi Osmond is the fourth son of Alan and Suzanne Osmond. He was born on 21 August 1979, making him a young 37 years old. His father is the founder of the original singing group, The Osmond Brothers. He has seven brothers – Michael, Nathan, Douglas, Scott, Jon, Alex, and Tyler. One might say that David Osmond was born with music flowing through his veins. When he was younger, he and three of his siblings – Michael, Nathan, and Douglas – comprised the musical quartet known as the Osmond Boys. Mike Curb, who signed the original Osmond Brothers to their recording contract, decided to make the Osmonds famous once again and signed David and his brothers. They had four songs in the Top 40 in the U.K. and performed to sold-out stadiums and arenas in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. The Osmond Boys worked extensively with the Children's Miracle Network, visiting sick children around the country. They also appeared on several TV shows, such as Good Morning America, and Live with Regis and Kathy Lee.Osmonds 2nd Generation, 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat'As the boys grew older they changed their name to the Osmonds 2nd Generation and their other brothers became a part of the act and often joined them on stage. The troupe went to Missouri and became featured performers at the Osmond Family Theater in Branson. David not only performed with his brothers but was also a featured solo artist.David also understudied for and eventually replaced his uncle, Donny Osmond, in his role in the musical production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He was honored to perform in the touring cast of the show after Donny became ill. He played Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Pittsburg CLO in downtown Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, through 7 June 2009.Pursing a Music CareerTo pursue his music career, David auditioned and performed through Hollywood Week in the eighth season of American Idol in 2009. However, due to laryngitis, he was unable to continue the show.On 1 March 2010, David did a soft release of an album called Reflected, which is available for download on iTunes and samples of the songs are available on YouTube. That was followed by the release of his first album, Road Less Traveled, through Shadow Mountain Records in the summer of 2010.The Challenges of Multiple Sclerosis (MS)David, like his father Alan, suffers from the autoimmune disease multiple sclerosis (MS). Originally aired on March 22, 1970, Disneyland Showtime is an episode of “The Wonderful World of Disney”. Interestingly, this was the first television special from Disneyland without a real host. The Osmond Brothers, accompanied by Kurt Russell and Actress E.J. Peaker, come to Disneyland to perform at a show being held there, but Donny and Jay Osmond go off to explore the park. Most of the episode deals with the Osmonds looking for Jay and Donny, while at the same time, having to keep up a tight schedule as a deadline for a performance from the Osmond Brothers was coming up fast, but they had gotten separated, but they eventually find each other and have that performance. Later, Kurt Russell gives the viewers an inside look at the Haunted Mansion, the last Disneyland attraction that Walt Disney planned that opened at Disneyland. Walt had previewed that attraction, along with Pirates of the Caribbean, on the Disneyland 10th Anniversary show back in 1965, but the Haunted Mansion did not open until 1969, two years after Pirates of the Caribbean opened. watch the video here
One of the requirements for the Osmond Brothers to perform on "The Andy Williams Show" was to do something new each week. One particular week, the show centered on ice skating and featured Olympic Gold Medalist Peggy Fleming. Wanting to perform, the brothers spent the next week learning to skate, and on set pulled off a spectacular routine in one take.
When George and Olive Osmond's first two sons were born with profound hearing loss, doctors cautioned the couple to not have any more children. George and Olive's next four sons were blessed not only with full hearing, but excellent voices as well. Alan, Wayne, Merrill and Jay Osmond began singing to raise money for hearing aids for their older two brothers, Virl and Tom. As Donny, Marie, and Jimmy joined their brothers, the Osmonds began a six decade journey that included over 100 million records, sold-out concerts around the world, and a charity organization that has raised over $6 billion to support children.
You would think that an entertainment career spanning six decades and 100 million records sold would have begun with a little more glory. For the Osmond Brothers, however, it began with an audition snub from a popular TV show and a father's decision to go to Disneyland. Through a series of "flukes", that family trip to The Happiest Place on Earth ended up catching the attention of Walt Disney himself. A summer gig at the theme park led to an appearance on a TV special that caught the attention of Andy Williams' father, and a one-week appearance on The Andy Williams Show turned into an 8-year run--including the new additions of Donny, Marie, and Jimmy Osmond.

One of the peaks of 70's prog. There are some records I think would have been stunning to hear in a big studio for the first time. This is one of them. Yes' "The Gates of Delirium", Stevie Wonder's "Innervisions", "Sergeant Pepper", and this for sure. A side-long song that never bores. Definitely their peak.

As Donny, Marie, and Jimmy joined their brothers, the Osmonds began a six decade journey that included over 100 million records, sold-out concerts around the world and a charity organization that has raised over $6 billion to support children.

The Osmond Brothers got their real start in show business when they couldn't get an audition for one television show, and they wound up on another. Check out the audience reaction to them at first. It cracks me up every time. This clip, incidentally, is from the show Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color, which most people seem to remember as The Wonderful World of Disney. Shoot, I was watching the show as a small kid (right after Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom), and remember it under the second title, which wasn't a thing until 1969. This episode was called "Disneyland After Dark", and the conceit behind it was that Walt Disney himself would start to introduce the different performers on the show, but he'd never see the acts himself because tourists kept interrupting him. The show, as it originally aired on NBC, was available on DVD for awhile, but appears not to be available now. This would be later in the group's career with Andy Williams, since Donny is part of the group now. The Disney gig led them to another show (The Andy Williams Show), and another. And finally, when they wanted to break out of their Variety TV Group image, they convinced their dad to let them record as a rock and roll band. So off they went to Alabama, as you do, and they put together an album that clearly had a Motown/R&B influence on it. It wasn't their first album; in fact it was their SEVENTH. But it's the one that broke big for them. The addition of Donny Osmond to the act, and the use of him in exactly the way Motown was using Michael Jackson at the same time, allowed the Osmonds to release their first hit single, and their first Number One record. What's the secret to the song's success? There's a theory, and it involves fast food. As usual, here's the show for those of you who don't dig podcatchers. The Shoals is a community in Northwest Alabama made up of four towns: Muscle Shoals, Florence, Sheffield, and Tuscumbia. Tucked in the foothills of the Tennessee River Valley, the Shoals is an hour from any interstate, and at least a two-hour drive from the nearest big cities—Nashville to the north and Birmingham to the south. The Shoals is one of the most documented places in the world of music. The Rolling Stones, Wilson Pickett, the Allman Brothers, Bobbie Gentry, even the Osmond Brothers -- all made pilgrimages to record at legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, with locals like Percy Sledge and the Swampers, FAME's in-house rhythm section. But music is only part of the cultural story here. There's a rich food culture, too. On this Gravy Road trip, we take a look at two sides of that story, one a local icon and the other, a newer kid in town.

Kangol is being honored by the American Cancer Society on May 17th at their annual Pink and Black Tie Gala in Brooklyn for the work he has done raising funds and awareness for Breast Cancer with the Mama Luke Movement, which he co-founded with his friend and business partner Shaunda Lumpkin. In May 2010, Shaunda's mother Gay Frances Lucas aka Mama Luke lost her 3 year battle with breast cancer 2 weeks after enjoying a cruise of a lifetime when she joined Kangol and Shaunda on the Tom Joyner Fantastic Voyage. Mama Luke had the pleasure of meeting many classic Hip Hop artists on this cruise and, in hearing of her passing, many of them have joined Kangol to be part of Team Mama Luke's fundraising efforts. "After years of watching the Jackson Five, Sylvers, Osmond Brothers and Tom Jones and deciding he wanted to be an entertainer, Kangol was asked to join rap group UTFO as a breakdancer. While "Roxanne, Roxanne", their phenomenal top 10 single screamed up the charts, U.T.F.O. were voted best rap group, at the Urban Music Awards, had featured spots on Don Cornelius' Soul Train, Phil Donahue Show and performed live for actors like Dustin Hoffman, Tony Danza and was the first rap group to perform at Harlem's World Famous Apollo Theater as they opened for Hall & Oates and Temptation's Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin. Kangol acquired his nickname from neighborhood friends, because of the many Kangol hats he owns and wears. He is also officially sponsored by Kangol Headwear, Inc. He balances his time between Producer, Composer, Performer, Artist Manager, Songwriter, President of his music production company, Kangol's Kreations, Inc., and CEO of his Public Relations firm, Kreative Media Group. His lecturing at High Schools and Colleges nationwide (including Harvard) on today's business of music has led this Brooklynite to receiving a proclamation from NYC for being the first Haitian in Hip-Hop Music.
