It is not your job to manage your client's finances. You don't have to change your prices to accommodate your client's finances.-- Selling should not be hard. Your clients have needs, and you service them by recommending the products and tools they need to keep their hair looking good in-between visits.-- If you are struggling to build clients, you may have personal work to do yourself. Today we dive into the world of the legal services sector. I talk with Rebecca Widdowson, who is the managing owner of a firm of solicitors called Hallmark Whatley, Hulme LLP. We cover quite a range of topics. Clearly this is a very traditional sector, and the firm was originally founded back in the 1700s and is the longest standing law firm within Worcestershire. So really a very traditional business in a sector that has seen a lot of change over time, and particularly in the last 10 to 15 years with the increasing use of technology. We discussed some of the aspects of efficiency around the business in what is essentially a very people based business. So we look at some of the aspects of that such as how we make sure that we build the right culture, and we have the right people doing the right things. We also also talk through a couple of particular aspects that Rebecca has been on with her journey, including a merger in the last few years, and some of the thinking behind that and what went well and what didn't go so well. So a lot of things that are covered in a really interesting in depth discussion and I think you're going to get a lot out of this discussion with Rebecca, whether or not you're coming at it from legal services perspective, or from a general business perspective. In this episode I go over my 30 year dog owner history, what breeds I've had and why I love my four legged friends. I also give some recommendations for professional online trainers that I personally like and follow.
Today's I'm talking about a few life-changing books. These are my personal recommendations which I read in the last year 2019. Books can change lives. Not overnight but yes with the knowledge they expose to you, with that knowledge over a period of time you find yourself charting on a life course that was somehow directed by those experiences which you read in the books. Last year I read the most books ever with the help of Audible. An app which revolutionised the way books are consumed.you Here are 5 books which changed my life for good - Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert The law of success by Napoleon Hill Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Greg McKeown Becoming by Michelle Obama So these were the 5 books out of all the books I read in 2019. Which changed my life in some way or the other. The point is not to read as many books as you can but to grasp the meaning of the knowledge which the writer is trying to share through his work. In this 4th episode, I have the distinct pleasure of speaking with none other than Willie Geist (1:05), one of NBC News’ biggest stars and one of the most likable men on morning television. We discuss his new SUNDAY TODAY show, soccer in America, hip-hop and the art of interviewing amongst other interesting subjects. And if you haven’t seen the Obama’s “first date” movie SOUTHSIDE WITH YOU, I have its director Richard Tanne (26:30) to talk about the inspiration in making this movie, John Legend’s involvement and if the Obama’s have already really seen the film. Did they like it? Do you love movies, get ready to see Hollywood’s best films of the year at a theater near you. When selecting the book resources to supply to teachers as part of the grant, the project coordinator and pedagogy expert worked collaboratively to consult several sources. The search began with a review of recommended books from the following sources:National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) Notable Tradebooks for Young PeopleCarter G. Woodson Book AwardsJohn Newberry Medal and Honor BooksRandolph Caldecott Medal BooksLibrarian RecommendationsLiteracy Experts RecommendationPersonal Recommendations (based on classroom use)Each book from the resulting list was reviewed in the library. At that point, the project coordinator and pedagogy scholar deleted those books that were inappropriate. Examples for deleting books included that the reading level was too high for the target audiences (3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students), the era of the text did not align with the era of the module, and there were multiple books addressing the same topics. The list resulting from the library review was then matched against those books recommended by respected sources that review children's books about Native Americans. The primary resources for this review were the Oyate website, A Broken Flute, and Debbie Reese's blog. Some texts were maintained in the list even though there were concerns about aspects of the works (e.g., The Buffalo Hunt by Russell Freedman), but information about these failings was shared with students in the module. The final final list appears below.Booklist (2010)
