Strategic tools can help you navigate organisational and market complexities. But how do you even begin to make sense of it all?In this episode, Simon Wardley, the creator of Wardley Mapping and one of the most profound thinkers and influencers in strategy, explains the power of mapping complex ecosystems. He speaks on how building resilient organisations goes beyond clever tactics and requires a deep understanding of the landscapes you're navigating. He highlights how most organisations still struggle to truly understand their customers, and emphasises why it's crucial to realign strategies, foster a shared language, and enable cohesiveness to create true “value.”For leaders, this conversation serves as a call to rethink how you approach both organisational structures and the strategies needed to stay adaptable in a constantly changing landscape.Simon brings a wealth of experiential knowledge in strategy, having contributed to the growth of some of the biggest organisations worldwide. In this podcast, he delves into the evolution of technology, organisational structures, and strategy, with a particular focus on the impact of AI. He challenges our fear of rapid technological advancement by sharing how tech's true development follows a more gradual process, ultimately leading to sudden bursts of change - a more nonlinear growth. He also explores other critical themes like - the evolution of organisational structures, referencing his explorers-villagers-town planners model, the need to have strong guiding principles, and also shares why the engineer is the true architect of a technology. So, for anyone seeking a roadmap to navigate complexity correctly, this conversation is a must-listen. Tune in. Key Highlights

In episode 228 of America Adapts, host Doug Parsons speaks with Victoria Salinas, Senior Fellow at the Climate Resilience Institute at the University of Miami and former Deputy Administrator for Resilience at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) under the Biden administration. Victoria shares her journey into federal service, including her decision to join FEMA at a critical juncture for the agency. She reflects on FEMA's traditionally reactive role and her efforts to reshape it into a more proactive force for community resilience—breaking down silos, emphasizing equity, and building a culture focused on climate risk reduction. The conversation explores key programs from her portfolio, including the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant program, with a focus on supporting underserved communities and using data to target resources where they are needed most. She addresses the current political climate and discusses the dismantling of climate adaptation programs at FEMA. Despite her concern over recent setbacks, she offers a hopeful message for public servants, emphasizing the enduring value of service, equity, and innovation in climate resilience. This episode is a timely and candid reflection on what's at stake for climate adaptation in the United States—and what it will take to keep resilience on the national agenda. Transcript available here. Victoria Salinas Quotes: "My kind of reflection on this has been that, firstly, I had believed, and I think we're finding out wrongly, that disaster management and helping people basically reducing human suffering caused by disasters, I thought that was apolitical, right? Like that it would transcend political spectrums. And because they're dismantling so many of the programs that are aimed at reducing disaster risk, unfortunately, as you've seen, FEMA has become hyper-politicized." “We're not just funding infrastructure — we're funding trust. When we partner with communities early, we build the kind of trust that saves lives when a crisis hits.” “You can have the best resilience policy on paper, but if it doesn't survive a change in administration, it's not really resilient.” Check out the America Adapts Media Kit here! What Do Boundaries with Teens Actually Look Like?We talk a lot about boundaries on this podcast, and for good reason—they're one of the most important tools you have as a caring adult. But let's be honest: it's one thing to say “set boundaries,” and another to know what that looks like in real life. We're getting super practical. What kinds of boundaries actually help teens thrive? Why do they matter? And how can you set them without sounding like the “fun police”?Let's dive in...In this episode, we mentioned the following resources:- The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt- Teen Life Blog: How to Define Group Norms that Teens Will Actually Follow | Teenage Romance: Tips for Teens and Parents | 5 Ways to Keep Teens Safe This Summer- Teen Life Podcast: How to Talk with Teens about Sex & Relationships | Setting Realistic Tech Boundaries for Teens | Cell Phone Boundaries | First Cell Phone Advice | Boundaries | Teen Dating Advice | Dating at School | Dating | Friendship Anxiety ..Visit our website: www.teenlifepodcast.comSubscribe to get the episodes in your inbox: www.teenlife.ngo/subscribeWatch the podcast on YouTube!Follow Us: Instagram | Facebook | Twitter..Podcast Music by: Luke Cabrera & Tobin HodgesHosted by: Karlie Duke & Caleb Hatchett Produced by: Karlie Duke & Kelly Fann
They thought it was just an old house on Brownsville Road.Quiet. Ordinary. A new beginning. But almost immediately, something felt wrong. Cold spots with no explanation. Footsteps in empty rooms. Shadows that moved when no one was there. And then... the presence made itself known. This is more than a haunting—it's a chilling true story of afamily's fight against something they couldn't see, but could feel everywhere.A house with a history soaked in darkness. And a battle that nearly broke them.
Pete Flint, General Partner at NFX and founder of Trulia, joins us for an expansive conversation on how AI is reshaping the foundations of entrepreneurship, platform economies, network effects, and defensibility strategies.Drawing from his deep experience as both a founder and an investor, Pete breaks down what it means to build in a world where CAC is difficult to change and requires expanding LTV by designing invisible, agent-powered experiences and adopting “stackable” approaches to product development.Speaking on the low barriers to entry for startups, he highlights why speed now trumps precision, saying, “There is no prize for being right, but there is one for being fast.”This conversation is a must for anyone navigating the fast-moving world of AI, platform innovation, and startup strategy. What does it mean to build a startup in a world of frictionless tools and unpredictable technological shifts? In this episode, Pete, one of the world's most prominent internet entrepreneurs, helps us unpack how the dynamics of company-building are being transformed - not just by AI, but by new patterns of behaviour, demand, and value creation. We explore consumers' hyper-personalised requirements and what that means for founders navigating shifting entry points and stackable business models. He also speaks on cultural foundations and how an organisation's ecosystem affects outcomes. For anyone grappling with how to lead or build in this dynamic landscape, this episode offers a take on what truly matters.Key Highlights

This spring I'm releasing bonus episodes of The Take Home. No new lectures on leadership, instead I'm sharing the amazing podcasts created by the students in my Leadership for Sport Professionals class. In this bonus episode of Season 5, I'm sharing "Outside the Lines" which was created and produced by Harrison Durow, Christian Green, and Zander Guckian. Here are their liner notes: In this episode of Outside the Lines, we interviewed Maryellen Durow, a Hall of Fame volleyball player at the University of Northern Iowa and a varsity coach and athletic director in her own right, about how her experiences shape her outlook on leadership. Maryellen narrates her journey from growing up in Milwaukee, to being a successful athlete at Pius High School, where she helped her teams compete for state championships. She explains how being an athlete helped her develop resilience, teamwork, and the potential to change a team culture when things go south. The discussion explores gender expectations in leadership, changing opportunities for women in athletics, and the balancing act of being assertive versus likable. Inspired by her high school coach, Mr. Fisher, and the great UCLA Coach John Wooden, Maryellen teaches the fighting values of hard work, trust, and teamwork. She also discusses the significance of setting goals, building strong relationships, and adapting a leadership approach to individual and team needs. Her advice for aspiring coaches and athletes centers around being vulnerable, honing people skills, and valuing team success over individual accolades. The lessons from this episode go beyond lessons we can learn on the court and in administration, and they also show how we live our day-to-day lives around building a culture of trust and growth. Maryellen's wisdom offers concrete advice for all who want to lead with authenticity and purpose. For years, Professor Louise Mullany – author of Polite: The Art of Communication at Home, at Work and in Public, has been examining how politeness rules our day-to-day lives – whether it's speaking to colleagues about issues at work, dealing with difficult family members or wondering if you should eat the last piece of pie. In this episode of HIF Player, Prof Mullany explains how a better understanding of the rules and norms of politeness can help us in all aspects of our work, leisure and home lives. What happens when a spiritual movement turns into a political force—and then spirals into one of the most bizarre cult stories in modern history?"Rajneeshpuram: The Cult of Rajneesh" takes you deep into the heart of a utopian dream gone dangerously wrong. In the early 1980s, a charismatic Indian guru named Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh and his devoted followers left India and built a sprawling commune in the Oregon desert. What began as a spiritual experiment quickly transformed into a surreal and shocking tale of power, control, bioterrorism, and international scandal.Episode show notes: www.3amfear.comNarrated by: Nikita FerraoInstagram: @3amfearpod@ncferraoauthorFind me on Youtube @ 3AM Fear PodcastFree thriller eBook: www.ncferrao.comPodcast Music: https://www.purple-planet.comEpisode Music: Music: Halloween Theme 1 by Alexander Nakarada (www.creatorchords.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/SUBSCRIBE us on YOUTUBE: https://bit.ly/3qumnPHFollow on Facebook: https://bit.ly/33RWRtPFollow on Instagram: https://bit.ly/2ImU2JVEmail me on nikita@3amfear.comSources:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rajneeshpuramhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rajneesh_movementhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rajneeshhttps://www.neh.gov/humanities/2018/spring/feature/rajneeshpuram-was-more-utopia-desert-it-was-mirrorhttps://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/oct/12/abuse-rajneesh-cult-children-communeshttps://www.amazon.in/Rajneeshpuram-Inside-Bhagwan-Failed-American/dp/1641604727https://www.thecut.com/2018/04/9-rajneesh-followers-on-what-wild-wild-country-got-wrong.htmlhttps://www.britannica.com/topic/Rajneesh-movementhttps://www.reddit.com/r/WildWildCountry/comments/8asxhp/ama_for_former_rajneeshpuram_resident_i_lived/ https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/survivor-of-bhagwan-shree-rajneeshs-sex-cult-reveals-decades-of-abuse-6675679 https://people.com/crime/wild-wild-country-bhagwan-rajneesh-oregon-today/https://au.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/australian-cults-the-rajneesh-movement-14899/https://www.huffpost.com/entry/cult-wild-wild-country-netflix_n_5ab2b37de4b054d118df49c1https://www.oregonencyclopedia.org/articles/rajneeshees/https://www.oregonlive.com/tv/2018/03/netflix_documentary_on_rajnees.html

In this episode, we welcome Tom Nixon, author of Work with Source, to explore the powerful yet often overlooked idea of “source” - as the person who first conceives and commits to a creative initiative - and the impact such a role has on organizations. Drawing from his extensive experience advising founders and mission-driven projects, Tom helps us unpack what it truly means to hold the role of source - beyond conventional leadership, and as he puts it, “being the author of the story that unfolds.” Together, we explore how organizations can enable a deep human dimension behind all authentic ventures, and work towards a truly regenerative and evolutionary way of organizing. While many conversations around leadership focus on structure, roles, or decision-making, this episode looks at a deeper assessment of where creative initiatives truly begin - and how they should maintain coherence as they evolve. Tom Nixon introduces us to the subtle but powerful idea of “source” as the unique origin point from which meaning, direction, and integrity flow.We explore how the source perspective can help us navigate complexity, and why the source is simply not a “genius hero” figure, as we presume. He also helps us unpack more regenerative, emergent, and resilient ways of working together. So, for listeners looking to understand the creative dynamics that often hide behind hierarchical organizational structures - and why honouring the human in a project is highly strategic - this conversation is a source of guidance. In episode 227 of America Adapts, we are re-releasing one of the more popular episodes of the podcast — my interview with Madison Condon, a law professor at Boston University. In our original conversation, we explored the critical role climate modeling plays in climate adaptation, including: what climate models can — and can't — do; the concept of the “climate industrial complex”; legal liability for inaccurate climate projections and the role of climate analytics firms like First Street Foundation. When this episode first aired, there was still a general assumption that the federal government would continue to support the vast public infrastructure behind climate data and modeling. That assumption no longer holds. Federal agencies are now actively dismantling the systems that deliver open, accessible climate data — a dangerous retreat from a public good relied on by scientists, communities, and the private sector alike. Following the original interview, we've added a brand-new interview with Madison to reflect on what's changed, what we're at risk of losing with the federal pullback, and why this shift toward privatized climate data should concern all of us. If you've already heard the original episode and want to jump straight to the new conversation, it begins around the 58 minute mark. Topics covered in original interview: The Federal Reserve “is a climate laggard.” What are climate models and what can and can't they do? What is the “climate industrial complex”? How right, is “right” enough when it comes to climate models? Could climate analytic/modeling companies be held liable for bad projections? The role of climate analytic groups like First Street Foundation. Do we need a “National Climate Service” to provide basic climate data? Do adaptation planners understand the role of climate models in their work? Subscribe to the America Adapts newsletter here. In episode 226 of America Adapts, Dr. Susanne Moser, a world leading expert in climate adaptation returns to discuss a new report she's co-authored, The Tasks of Now: Toward a New Era in Climate Resilience Building. We explore how adaptation strategies have evolved—and why we need to shift from incremental approaches to truly transformational action. Susi makes a compelling case for “multisolving”—tackling climate, social, and economic challenges together—and outlines the urgent need for better coordination, deeper investment, and a more justice-oriented approach to resilience. We talk about the funding gaps holding this work back, the untapped role of the private sector, and why foundations have a unique opportunity to lead especially considering the massive pull back on climate action from the federal government. We also dig into something that is often overlooked: communication. Susi and I talk about why effective outreach and engagement are not just extras—they're core to successful adaptation, and they need to be funded accordingly. If you're working in or funding climate adaptation, this is a conversation you don't want to miss. Check out the America Adapts Media Kit here! Subscribe to the America Adapts newsletter here. What does it take for organizations to truly harness the power of AI - not just as a buzzword, but as a transformative force for strategy, culture, and execution? In this episode, Anindya Ghose - Professor at NYU Stern, and one of the world's leading voices at the intersection of AI, economics, and platforms - joins us to explore what it means to adopt AI intentionally and ethically.Anindya presents his “House of AI” framework to cut through the AI hype. This grounded, end-to-end framework helps organizations align their data, models, and ethics for meaningful impact. He also shares his insights on how AI is shifting the nature of management itself - and why the true differentiator in an AI-enabled world will be people, not technology. We go beyond surface-level AI conversations to explore what it really means to embed it within an organization - not just as a tool, but as a force that reshapes how decisions are made, work gets done, and leadership is defined.Anindya is a globally recognized AI advisor who has transformed the journey of over 60 companies worldwide. As the author of Tap and Thrive, he also brings a rare blend of corporate insight and academic depth, helping us break down how AI can elevate both business and human potential. We explore how AI is pushing organizations to rethink core assumptions, what are the cultural and structural implications of AI, how does AI take shape in organizational structure, and why it's important to also see AI as a powerful positive force. This is not an episode to miss, as we explore the tensions around AI and how they can be turned into meaningful opportunities.Key Highlights

What separates organizations that thrive in uncertainty from those that struggle? In this episode, Luca Dellanna - management consultant, researcher, and author - explores how companies can move beyond theoretical decision-making to ensure real-world execution and resilience. In this episode, Luca unpacks key concepts like ergodicity, antifragility, and the role of behavioral dynamics in shaping organizational effectiveness. Stating how “Decision-making is only as good as execution,” he emphasizes the need for organizations to create systems that surface problems early and drive real adaptation. He also challenges the notion that architecture alone can ensure antifragility, suggesting that qualitative insights, cultural alignment, and leading by example are all essential in building adaptable organizations. In this episode, Luca provides a reality check on common management approaches, indicating why many organizations fail to turn strategy into action. He highlights why leadership by proclamation is ineffective without visible commitment, how organizations often create misaligned incentives, and why cultural shifts require more than just top-down mandates. Drawing from real-world examples, he also shares how true organizational change comes from daily, repetitive micro-level decisions.Tune in, as we discuss how to avoid the cost of irreversible consequences, and instead structure for long-term wins that build anti-fragile organizations prioritizing survival over performance. In episode 225 of America Adapts, we explore flood risk disclosure—a simple yet powerful climate adaptation tool that helps homebuyers avoid financial disaster while building more resilient communities. As climate change worsens flooding and federal support for resilience efforts declines, some states are stepping up with smart policies to protect homeowners before disaster strikes. I'm joined by Joel Scata from the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) to discuss the push for stronger flood disclosure laws, plus a homeowner who learned the hard way what happens when flood risks aren't disclosed. We'll also highlight state success stories and how these policies can be a key part of climate adaptation. As AI reshapes industries at an unprecedented pace, Louis-David Benyayer, associate professor at ESCP Business School and a leading researcher and strategist at the intersection of AI, digital transformation, and knowledge work, joins us on this podcast to discuss what it means for the consulting, education, and knowledge work industries. In this episode, Louis helps us explore how Generative AI has the potential to go much beyond automating tasks and fundamentally shifting business models in two very key industries: Consulting and Professional Education. He emphasizes that "AI will likely not replace human expertise but amplify the best experts. " He also states that hybridizing humans and technology allows for deeper insights and more significant impact.During the episode, Louis-David shares tangible examples from his experience of how these industries are evolving: consulting firms moving away from traditional billable hours toward subscription-based and modular services and universities looking to redefine their role in a world where knowledge is highly accessible, among others. He also highlights how AI amplifies expert consultants while commoditizing baseline knowledge and explores why the most skilled professionals benefit from AI's evolution. So, if you're a consultant, educator, or customer looking to interpret and navigate the complex landscape shifts due to AI, this episode is a must-listen.Key Highlights

How are artists reaching their target audience in 2025 and keeping their attention? How will it look 10 years from now?
In an era where go-to-market strategies are evolving rapidly, Asher Mathew—a veteran in partnerships, ecosystems, and business transformation—makes a case for the strategic role of partnerships in modern business. Asher unpacks how partnerships extend beyond traditional sales and marketing, influencing product development, customer acquisition, and even service delivery. Sharing how “intentionality in design” is at the core of partnership strategy, he explains how organisations can align themselves with customer needs. So, whether you're a startup or an enterprise, this episode will serve as a perfect playbook for leveraging partnership as a key growth multiplier rather than just another channel.Asher, co-founder of Partnership Leaders, has long-standing experience in how modern organizations design partner strategies to enhance product adoption, customer reach, and business scalability. He highlights the importance of identifying core business strengths to determine which capabilities to build, buy, or partner for; and how to balance both horizontal and vertical partnerships. He takes us through different models that serve different objectives, and indicates why it's important for companies of all sizes to develop structured partner programs for scalability. If you're keen on learning how companies could use partnership strategies to function at scale, and get a sneak peek into the future of partnerships, tune in, as Asher shares everything there is to know.
