RUN, EAT, and DRINK with RunDisney Legend Alan Young In this episode, we talk with a member of the “Runcation Nation” and pillar of the RunDisney community, Alan Young. He talks about his storied journey and fantastic history with RunDisney. He took this journey with his beautiful wife, Grace, who you see in some of the episode artwork pictures this week. He is what's known as “perfect” in the RunDisney realm. What does it mean… to be “perfect,” you ask? It is a title given to all those who have completed all Walt Disney World Marathons in history. He goes further than all those who have done that, though. He is the only one left who can say he has completed the Disneyland Marathon when it was held once upon a time. With his passion for Disneyland and Walt Disney World evident, Alan talked with us about his favorites across the parks when it came to eating and drinking in the Disney bubble after the running. We loved it because he confirmed much of what we have had at the parks and at Disney Springs, too! In this episode, we talk with a member of the “Runcation Nation” and patron of our show, Dawn Broussard. She talks about completing the Dopey Challenge with her daughter this past year. Of course after completing a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and her first-ever marathon in the SAME weekend, she had to explore, indulge, and celebrate this big accomplishment. She selected Artist Point, a character dining experience at Wilderness Lodge. Which characters, you ask? Snow White, Grumpy, and of course, Dopey! Photo opp is included! This meal features tasty shared appetizers, individual entrees, and shared desserts along with a non-alcoholic beverage included in the price of the dinner. The biggest stars of the meal had to be the slow-braised pork shank and the Enchanted Apple martini that Dawn talked about with us. Yummy! We want to check out the Miner's Treasure cookies and cream dessert, too! It all sounds very tempting, very much like the poison apple that Snow White was tempted with in the fairytale. There are food options for the kids and themed drinks without alcohol, too, if you are still hydrating after your race, like the Transformation Potion and Wishing Apple Punch. It sounds like this meal has something for everyone! There's no stopping Dr. Dawn Mussallem. Mussallem — a lifestyle medicine and integrative breast cancer specialist at the Robert and Monica Jacoby Center for Breast Health at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida — is a cancer survivor, a recipient of both bone marrow and heart transplants, a mother and a marathon runner. Mussallem explained to CURE® how her own life experiences have helped her connect with patients on health journeys of their own. “Going through what you go through, it really gives you the ability to connect with people,” she said. “It's such a gift, that ability to connect, and really kind of be able to have a good sense or intuition, if you may, of where they're at in their cancer journey, and just to be able to be there with them, and that time of vulnerability. And so, it's given me the ability to have a good pulse on exactly where I need to be with a patient.” When she was 26 and in the early months of medical school, Mussallem began experiencing shortness of breath and fatigue. One doctor told her she had asthma, another concurred and a third said it was all in her head. A few days later, she collapsed on her way home from class — she was in cardiogenic shock, and her heart wasn't pumping. Doctors found a 16-centimeter mass in her chest wrapped around her heart that had collapsed her left lung. She was diagnosed with stage 4, large diffuse B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and was told she had three months to live if she didn't start treatment immediately, she recounted. Surgery, chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant followed. And life continued for her. She began her career in medicine, gave birth to a daughter who's now 19 and, three weeks later, began experiencing heart failure. Mussallem spent 18 years in heart failure. During that time, she stayed as active as possible, worked with her patients and volunteered at the National Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer operated by the DONNA Foundation, an organization which financially assists and supports patients with breast cancer and funds breast cancer research. “I remember working here in the Breast Center with my breast cancer patients and volunteering at the DONNA Marathon because I couldn't run — I couldn't walk it with the heart failure,” Mussallem said. “And I remember just thinking, ‘Oh, my gosh, I would give anything one day to be able to run this. If or when I get a transplant, I'll be good enough to do that.'” The transplant happened in February of 2021, and exactly one year to the day later, Mussallem crossed the marathon's finish line. In this episode of the “Cancer Horizons” podcast, Mussallem talks with CURE® about her DONNA Marathon training experience her connection with her patients and the importance of physical activity for patients during their cancer journey. “For 18 years, I wanted to do what I did … but I had to hold back because I knew I only had so much to give,” she said. “And now I can just give and give and give because I feel great. I gotta get rid of my energy.” For more news on cancer updates, research and education, don't forget to subscribe to CURE®'s newsletters here.

Congrats to your friend who ran with you postpartum, too! Wesley Twiggs, related to one Chris Twiggs, earned 5th place this year in his DONNA race during the weekend! Congrats, Wesley! We got an email this week from Alan Young, too, with a recommendation: Subject: Thank you from Alan Young Message: Hi! Thanks again for the help. I am now following you on Facebook and YouTube. When visiting Anaheim, suggest “Cafe Hiro,” a Japanese fusion restaurant with a non-sushi omakase menu. About $45 per person with a four-diner minimum. Thanks for coming out to cheer during the January WDW events. Not good on voice recordings. Do have a shoutout when we finished the full. Let me know if you want to hear it. (Tech challenged) Also, if you're going to see any of the older Disney marathon stuff, let me know. We got a lot of items this year. Enjoy your runcation philosophy. Great to run to. RUN The Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend is in the books. This week we recap what the weekend was like for us and where we are going from here. We have some pixie dust moments to share, and we discuss how this weekend is motivation to dedicate ourselves to training for the next race. EAT AND DRINK Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend is an opportunity to sample food from around the world or taste one of our favorites in new and creative ways. We did the latter this time at the Brew-Wing Booth. This is a return to this booth. Last year, we tried their vegan option of brussel sprouts. They are back, but this time, we tasted two different samplings of chicken wings - a sweet one and a spicy dish, too! Plus a cider and a beer from this booth, too! We captured our first impressions to play for you in this episode while we sampled the food and beverages in the air conditioning of this enormous building right around the corner from Test Track at Epcot. SHOUT OUTS Thanks to all our patrons and everyone in the Runcation Nation for your support and encouragement. Because of you, we have been able to keep the show going over the last two years, and now that the races are returning, we look forward to meeting up with you, too! Happy birthday to Darlene, who celebrated the day this past week. Congratulations to Jessica, who completed the Everglades Half Marathon. RUN While we had to defer Rock ‘n' Roll Clearwater to 2023 due to the hurricane, we were still on track as far as our training goes. We talk about how we are coming back from the hurricane and preparing for our next scheduled race, the Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend in November. In addition, back before the hurricane, we wanted to discuss this… news from D23 that the Disneyland races will return in 2024! What do we expect the experience to be like in terms of the registration process, the weekend itself, and the medals? We are hoping it will be epic, but most of all… that we can get into the race weekend. EAT The end of September brings National Lobster Day each year. We love lobster, so we thought we'd take a look back at some great lobster dishes we've had in the history of our show, plus a return to a favorite place to celebrate. Quick Bite #80: Listener Recommendation at DJ's Clam Shack (Famous Lobster Roll) Episode #87: 2019 Wine and Dine Half Marathon & Dana's Picks from Epcot Food & Wine Festiva (Lobster Roll at Hops & Barley Booth) Episode #105: Keep Accomplishing, Exploring, and Indulging with Us Virtually (Our favorite lobster roll from a local food truck Mobstah Lobstah) Episode #125: A Training Run At Walt Disney World and a Peek at Some 2020 Epcot Food and Wine Festival Offerings (Citrus Blossom Booth Half Lobster Tail... Yum!) Episode #138: We had a great dinner at the Fish Tale Grill We split a Captain's platter with shrimp cocktail, snow crab, stone crab, king crab, lobster tail, and clams plus so much more! It came with cocktail sauce, drawn butter, and a creamy mustard dip. The meat was briny and juicy. The sauces complemented the seafood so well. We took a trip to Mobstah Lobstah while they were staged in Sarasota at Calusa Brewing celebrate this non-holiday holiday. This food truck never disappoints. Their lobster rolls are restaurant-quality dishes that all should try, as we have said before each time we have talked about their food on the show. This was the way to celebrate. But they also have other delicious seafood dishes, too, proving that they are, as Dana would say, not just a “one-trick pony.” If you come down to Florida for races and see this truck, don't think, just walk up, wait in the line they usually have, and order. You will not be sorry! DRINK Calusa Brewing is located in Sarasota, a little over an hour from us. This is where Mobstah Lobstah was over the weekend prior to Hurricane Ian, and we hadn't checked this place out. So, we took a day trip up to Sarasota, and we were so pleased with the variety of brews, the space, the staff, and the experience. Calusa Brewing gives back to the community, and we always love to see that. The brewery was hosting a fundraiser for the Apple A Day Foundation, an organization that helps improve quality of life for children as they battle cancer. In lieu of flights, they offer short pours and pints. We loved the strategy because we could sample responsibly. THAT'S A WRAP! RED Episode 226 The Cone of Absolute Certainty SHOUT OUTS Thanks to all our patrons and everyone in the Runcation Nation for your support and encouragement. Because of you, we have been able to keep the show going over the last two years, and now that the races are returning, we look forward to meeting up with you, too! JoJo, Darlene, and Fitz are at the Detroit Free Press Race Weekend. Congratulations to JoJo for all the hard work she put forward and the money she raised for St. Jude. She is a SuperGirl, Superwoman, and more! Congratulations to Darlene for continuing her 50 States quest. Fitz, we are so excited for them to experience this race with you on the mic and your fantastic playlist. We know there have been so many others completing milestones and races in the past couple of weeks and we've missed helping you celebrate because of the hurricane, but we are cheering for you from here and know that we want to celebrate with you. RUN We are so sad that the Rock and Roll Clearwater Half was canceled. We were looking forward to seeing Jennifer Hall and other members of the Runcation Nation at that race. We will have to look forward to that in 2023! In the meantime, we are using the cleanup from Hurricane Ian as cross-training as we look forward to better days during Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend, Donna Marathon Weekend, and the Gasparilla Distance Classic in the coming months. EAT We have seen so many local restaurants and food trucks that have been feeding our community as we recover from Hurricane Ian. We have to shout out Nice Guys Pizza, Fort Myers Brewing, and Viet Yum just to name a few. We saw a Publix parking lot filled with local food trucks supporting our city and the barrier islands that suffered the greatest amount of damage and devastation. We appreciate everyone who was able to do this for all of the people who needed support and help through this traumatic event. DRINK Lexington Brewing Company has always been a favorite of ours. This week, we try Lexington Brewing Company Pumpkin Barrel Ale live on the show. This one packs a punch at 10% ABV, and it has all the flavors of the fall season. With lower carbonation, a heavier body, and the orange hue of fall leaves, this beer has subtle flavors of cinnamon and nutmeg. We enjoyed it. THAT'S A WRAP! SHOUT OUTS Thanks to all our patrons and everyone in the Runcation Nation for your support and encouragement. Because of you, we have been able to keep the show going over the last two years, and now that the races are returning, we look forward to meeting up with you, too! This weekend we remembered a loyal fan of the show who was gone too soon. Happy birthday to Rob Nadeau. We miss your phone calls, photos, and advice. We are so grateful for the time we had you here. Happy birthday in heaven to this member of the Runcation Nation. Thanks to Cheryl Goodwin for keeping fellow runners going. She volunteered at a race this weekend. Congratulations to Jojo, who ran a Minion-Themed 5K in an adorable costume this past weekend! Adorable! Thank you to patron Dean Gerber who upgraded to the Accomplish level of support this past week. RUN We are two weeks away from the LIVE Inaugural Rock N Roll Clearwater Half Marathon! This week we talk about the taper, the last long training run, strength training, hydration, and a tough thing for most of us to do at the end of the training cycle and that 4-letter word, REST. EAT Viet Yum is a local food truck here in Southwest Florida. We checked out some of their new dishes while they were out at Fort Myers Brewing Company. Their Vietnamese and Cajun heritage is evident in every tasty bite! Get the Saigon Wings when they are on special. You won't be sorry. DRINK Fort Myers Brewing Company was recently voted 2022 Best Brewery in Southwest Florida this past summer. We decided to go out and celebrate with them and sample their new offering, Lime to Me. It was refreshing and delicious in this hot Florida weather. All of their tasty brews are great to toast their accomplishment! THAT'S A WRAP! Because of you, we have been able to keep the show going over the last two years, and now that the races are returning, we look forward to meeting up with you, too! Happy Mother's Day to all! Congratulations to Jessica and Kelly on their Cocoa Beach 10-Miler. Susie and JoJo were at it again as they traveled to the Indy Mini Marathon, where they got to “kiss the bricks” and hear half of Team Noisy, Rudy, announce their race. Dean and Judy were with us as we all completed the Black Knight DONNA Mother's Day 5K with the other half of Team Noisy on the mic, Fitz Koehler! We talk about the brand-new DONNA 5K route through Jacksonville's beautiful Riverside neighborhood, starting and ending at the historic Friday Musicale. In addition to a beautiful race day, we heard one of our favorite race announcers on the mic, Fitz Koehler, one half of Team Noisy! We got our hands on the medal and shirt design we talked about in Episode 207 with Amanda Napolitano a few weeks ago, too. It was such a great race, where we met so many that The DONNA Foundation has helped and supported. We would do it again and recommend it highly! Find out more about what The DONNA Foundation does at https://thedonnafoundation.org/. EAT Vale Food Co in Jacksonville was a great option after completing our race on Saturday. This is a build-your-own bowl (or choose from their menu options if you can't decide) style meal with plant-based options and meat, dairy, acai bowls, and toast creations, too! It felt like a very "brunchy" and quick option for us. While they don't have mimosas, they have flavored healthy water, cold-pressed juice shots, coffee, handmade lemonade, and more to quench your thirst. We built our bowls, and they were delicious! Vale Food Co is a great little place in Jacksonville, and they have locations throughout Florida, too! (Tip: Get the Sweet Potato Noodles. They don't taste like sweet potato, and they are excellent with anything they offer!) Find out more at www.valefoodco.com. DRINK We went to Wildcrafters Booze-Free Bar near the Five Points area of Jacksonville, and boy, are we happy we did! Live music, a relaxing vibe, and the owner and bartender were terrific to everyone during our visit. The drinks we had were fun spins on coffee drinks and non-alcoholic cocktail creations that were quite tasty! We were so happy with the experience and can't wait to go back and try more of the menu at Wildcrafters Booze-Free Bar. We got to have a great experience celebrating our race while being alcohol-free, too! SHOUT OUTS Thanks to all our patrons and everyone in the Runcation Nation for your support and encouragement. Because of you, we have been able to keep the show going over the last two years, and now that the races are returning, we look forward to meeting up with you, too! Shout out to JoJo for winning her age group in her weekend Chic-Fil-A 5K. Bill and Kristina Craig are running the Rock 'n' Roll Nashville Half Marathon! Finally, thank you to JD, host of JD's Big Fat Running Journey for having us on his show! You can find all your favorite ways to listen to our chat with JD here: https://anchor.fm/james-daly6/episodes/Episode-4-Walking-On-Sunshine-e1hjnkg Thanks, JD! It was a great conversation! RUN This week, Dana is traveling to a work conference, so we take a break from racing and interviews to talk about training. But don't worry, we have more great interviews coming to you in May! It's a training week for us, so we took a Medal Chasers 5K to our neighborhood for our long run this past weekend. Bill and Kristina are in Nashville running a race, so they are handling the runcationing this week in style! We talk about the medal and bib and our strategy for the 5K. Bill and Kristina Craig, founders of Medal Chasers, have been on our show. We are big fans of running their virtual races as training runs to stay motivated during training season and support a great cause. The “Punisher” 5K, focused on one of the most tortured anti-heroes, is one from the Medal Chasers Anti-Hero series. We wanted to have a great-themed short run as a final one ahead of our trip to Jacksonville to run the Mother's Day 5K for the Donna Foundation. We were so excited to do this race to support Shriners Hospital for Children. As always, the bling did not disappoint. Right now, there are some fun virtual races offered on their connected to Star Wars, Marvel, and more! EAT Sometimes when we drive to races throughout Florida, we accidentally find some great food when we make a stop to fuel up on the road—wondering what we eat on the drive back home from Jacksonville? We hit Saint Augustine and found a food truck park right on the water. One of the trucks, the Funkadelic Food Shack, had great options to try. If you are in Jacksonville for any reason, and you have a chance to steal a couple of hours to go to Saint Augustine and see historical sights there, you can enjoy a great lunch by the water. We recommend anything with their sweet potato and quinoa fritters, but their burgers and tacos sound great too!! DRINK We share a non-alcoholic version of a cocktail Aimee loves this week, the Lemon Drop Martini. We got the recipe from www.frewines.com, and they call it Sugar Kisses. We are so happy that we can have a great-tasting wine that is nonalcoholic!? And they make all kinds: red, white, blush, and bubbly, too! We promised that this year we'd get more into wine. And, we will get into the alcoholic kind after our challenge is over! In the meantime, we share this recipe and our review with you. Of course, you can create a genuine Lemon Drop with a traditional recipe with vodka. Here's one from Ina Garden on the Food Network Website: https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/lemon-drop-cocktail-recipe-1941226 THAT'S A WRAP Runcation Nation, don't forget you can go to https://www.runeatdrink.net/donna. Race announcer at the weekend wanted to shout out the more than 250 male and female breast cancer survivors out there on the course, many of whom are still in chemo and other treatments while tackling this weekend's events. Facebook friend Judy Gerber wanted to shout out her husband Dean. Her husband wanted to shout out Judy as well. They both completed the Donna Marathon and Judy is a 15-year survivor as well! This week, as we recap the final race in our challenge during our Donna Marathon Weekend experience, we shout out Jessica, Kelly, Josh, Dawn, Susie, and Joanne. The experience would not have been the same without you. They all sent us feedback shouting out our marathoners for completing 26.2 miles in the less than optimal conditions that weekend. Everyone in the group wanted to shout out Josh for completing his first 5K and Half Marathon this weekend. JoJo said we all needed a shoutout for coming together and completing our races. We can't thank everyone enough for their participation, both in-person and virtual. Our first major Runcation Nation meetup was amazing! To all our patrons, we can't express how much it means to us. RUN Our Donna Marathon Weekend coverage continues with the Runcation Nation participating in the Half Marathon and Marathon events on Sunday. This race weekend supports The DONNA Foundation in its mission to help those fighting breast cancer as well as furthering research to end the disease. The support throughout Jacksonville was back. We met new friends all along the course, and despite the weather we found every reason that we love to return to this weekend back in full force! We were so happy to do this race with our Runcation Nation crew who came to meet up with us. It was such a fun experience. The neighborhoods came out to support in spite of weather. The after-party was full of volunteers ready to celebrate with food and beverage. We loved Fitz Koehler, our race announcer and a cancer survivor herself, who made the experience great, too! EAT This week's food and beverage came from a fantastic recommendation. Our local friends, Mike and Andi Sharp of the Bouncy Hunters (a group that raises money for The DONNA Foundation) recommended Burrito Gallery in the Jax Beach area, and it was SO GOOD!! Shout out to Claudia, an amazing employee who helped us navigate the menu and end up with a burrito bursting with flavor as well as a tasty trio of tacos, and churros that were filled with caramel goodness and could not be missed. DRINK Burrito Gallery has a full bar and you can sit at the bar for full service or order from the counter and get your food plus tasty original cocktails delivered to your table anywhere in the restaurant. We had a Mezcal Old Fashioned and a house margarita that did not disappoint. There are also great local beers on tap to choose from here, too. All-in-all, Burrito Gallery is top notch. Get there when you visit the Jax Beach area in Florida. THAT'S A WRAP! Thank you for listening! We are looking forward to YEAR NUMBER 5 of the podcast because of all your support! RUN Our Donna Marathon Weekend coverage continues with the 5K on Saturday. This race weekend supports The DONNA Foundation in its mission to help those fighting breast cancer as well as furthering research to end the disease. The 5K is back after a two-year hiatus and there was a bonus event, the 15K Relay, too, happening on the same course at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds. This race was a great tour of some sights in the downtown Jacksonville area close to one of our favorite breweries, Intuition Ale Works. The murals in this area are unique, too. The medal includes the signature running breast cancer ribbon. We were so happy to do this race with our Runcation Nation crew who came to meet up with us. It was such a fun experience. We loved Fitz Koehler, our race announcer and a cancer survivor herself, who made the experience great, too! EAT V Pizza gave us a fantastic meal while we were in Jacksonville. They have several locations. We headed to the one right on Jacksonville Beach and that we would pass during our half marathon race over the weekend. We had great pasta, wings, and calzone offerings from the menu. The pizzas looked great from that wood fire oven, too! They were slammed on a Saturday night. It's great thing to see at a local joint, and a good reminder that you want to allot some extra time when exploring new places around town on a race weekend. DRINK Flask and Cannon provides the libations for this V Pizza location in the Jacksonville Beach area. If you are feeling a tiki drink vibe, this place has you covered. There are beverages from groups and individual tiki drinks in fantastic glassware, too! Can't wait to Uber or Lyft back there after a race to really imbibe. THAT'S A WRAP! RUN Donna Marathon Weekend starts off on Friday with the Social Shakeout Run. It is an opportunity to meet two of the founders of this race, Jeff Galloway and Donna Deegan. It is a nice and easy 5K through part of the Jacksonville Beach neighborhoods that will host the half marathon, full marathon, and ultra races during the weekend. There are so many people we met who have supported The DONNA Foundation in their mission to find a cure through breast cancer research and support those fighting the disease and their families. It is the kind of event that sets the tone for the weekend, as we say every year. It was even better experiencing it with two members of our Runcation Nation, Josh and Dawn. Thank you for making the start to the weekend so much fun. EAT We were with our crew at Reve Brewing. It is the home of some unique brews and Bones Pizza. We had appetizers, pizzas, and desserts that were so flavorful. The House Bread with pesto sauce was a great starter. The Caesar salad was yummy as well.Their pizzas are so flavorful. We had one with fig, proscuitto, and balsamic glaze. There were so many with the perfect combination of flavors. We would come back again to try more of their unique creations. DRINK Reve Brewing has hazy, sour, and imperial beer. Plus all things slushees with beer. We had to try a few selections. Their flavors are true to the styles they are drawn to create. There are shorter pours to try, rather than flights, so you can have just enough of what you want to try. Their taproom is unique and inspired by Alice in Wonderland. Stop by if you are in the Jacksonville area. THAT'S A WRAP! Thank you for listening! We are looking forward to YEAR NUMBER 5 of the podcast because of all your support! This weekend marks the 15th anniversary of the National Marathon to End Breast Cancer and other charitable events to support the Donna Foundation and research to end breast cancer. Lucia Viti has more with event founder and namesake Donna Deegan.
Just in case our travel prep gets in the way of a Wednesday night Live Chat, we wanted to makes sure you had something in your podcast feed from us to get you excited about the coming weekend, whether you are joining us in Jacksonville, running virtually, or you are our cheer squad for the weekend form wherever you are. We will see you soon from Jacksonville! The 2019 Donna Marathon Weekend started with a Social Shakeout Run on Friday. It was a 5k to get us going for the fun weekend of running ahead, but it also gave us the chance to sit down with three incredible people who started this race weekend. It was such an honor to talk with these three and learn how this weekend got its roots. Thank you so much to Amanda Napolitano, Executive Director of the Donna Foundation, who arranged this time for us to chat! Donna Deegan is the Chief Eternal Optimist of the Donna Marathon Weekend and the Donna Foundation. Dr. Edith Perez is a professor of medicine at the Mayo Clinic. Finally, a fantastic friend of our podcast and America's Coach, Jeff Galloway, is the one who suggested that Donna start it all when they spotted each other at an Expo for the Gate River Run. They talk about the history of the race, the advancements in research and the families it has supported, and the reasons this weekend is a must-do and such a special race weekend. It is one that we plan to do every year to honor those we have lost to breast cancer, but also to experience one of the best running block parties we have ever been to in our running career! To find out about the race weekend, go to www.breastcancermarathon.com, and to support the foundation go to www.thedonnafoundation.org. THAT'S A WRAP Thank you for watching! Here's hoping for a great second year of the podcast because of all your support! Please subscribe and rate us on iTunes. We would love to hear your feedback and need your help getting discovered as a podcast! Follow us on our website, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
This week, we return to our chat with the Executive Director of the Donna Foundation, Amanda Napolitano. We spoke with her back in January 202, when the Donna Marathon Weekend went virtual amid the pandemic. We want to revisit it as we head into our return to the weekend live in Jacksonville. Her spirit and passion are contagious! This is the way to kick off the week heading into the 15th anniversary of the race weekend. The Donna Foundation is focused on a fundraising goal with the Weaver Challenge this year. Amanda says the foundation is pushing toward a $200,000 milestone as we approach the weekend, then ultimately to a $300,000 goal to meet the challenge and receive a $50,000 matching gift. The progress meter is here, and to donate or fundraise, folks should go here. The foundation serves increasingly more families with the pandemic impacts, so these funds are critical. Beyond that, Runcation Nation, those running with us, running virtually, or being members of our cheer squad… let's get ready to make the weekend a big celebration of love and survivorship!!! As Amanda said in her latest message to me, “Let joy lift your feet. That's what it's all about.” You can also support The Donna Foundation and get podcast swag. The RunRunLive 4.0 Podcast Episode 4-464 – Coach Chris Twiggs (Audio: link) audio:http://www.RunRunLive.com/PodcastEpisodes/epi4464.mp3] Link MarathonBQ – How to Qualify for the Boston Marathon in 14 Weeks - Chris' other show à Zero Prostate Cancer 2021 Boston - Intro: Hello my friends and welcome to episode 4-464 of the RunRunLive Podcast. Let's see if I can get this one out on time! Today we have the legendary coach Chris Twiggs on for a chat. I met Coach Twiggs down at the Bird in Hand Half Marathon. He is the head coach for Jeff Galloway's running program. Chris is a high-level marathoner and ultramarathoner in his own right, and it was interesting to me to compare and contrast the Galloway athletes that he coaches to the traditional training modalities. The net-net of it is that runners, whether they are the elites, the age groupers, the 100-mile-a-weekers, the casual athletes, the back of the packers – we are all as passionate about our sport and as curious about our training. And in section one, since we have a lot of new runners in the world these days, with basic questions, … I'm going to give you piece on how to get started from scratch. But – what you're going to be really excited about is that I'll start you out with a garden update and an Ollie update. Here's why. When I meet folks who have listened to my podcast, this podcast, do you know what they ask me? What they want to know? Is it about training tips? Is it about race adventures? No. They want to know how my garden is doing. And they want to know about Ollie my crazy border collie. So, I'm going to lean in! First the garden. It was an interesting year. We had some successes and some not-so-successes. My tomatoes struggled because there was an epidemic of some sort of tomato disease this year in my area that caused all the leaves to turn brown and wither – they call it “Tomato Blight”. It's because the weather has been so wet and gloomy this summer. I feel like I'm living in Seattle. Basically, you have to plan any outdoor activity around the next rains storm. It's not a 100% bad thing. Lawns are nice and green. I never had to water. As a matter of fact, I mixed up a bucket of fertilizer-water in June and have not had to refill it. The rain just keeps topping it off as I use it. I did get some splendid heirloom tomatoes. These nice golden tomatoes with red veins that were incredibly scrumptious with a little goat cheese. Yummy. It wasn't a total loss. Yvonne made me plant onions, even though I told her onions don't grow in my garden, and they didn't. I also had a fun experiment where I planted a bunch of old, sprouted potatoes in my compost bin. They grew like gangbusters, until something discovered how yummy they were and ate them all up. The composting process is amazing with all this rain. It turned 4 feet of leaves and waste into a foot of soil that I'll get to spread next year. I had a very robust crop of peas. So much so that I just gave up on harvesting them after a couple weeks. They are a pain to shell. Same with the Beans. I harvested a couple times but ran out of energy. Same with the red raspberries that are now in their second fruiting, and I can't keep up. I had a great crop of lettuces early again because of all the rain, which was great, except for having to share them with slugs. I had a good crop oof kale until the worms got them. I had an outstanding crop of green squash and zucchini. Barely kept up for all of June and July. My herbs were all very stout. I especially enjoyed the invasive mint plants this year for making tea in my home office. I got a fair amount of cucumbers. And a reasonable amount of these yellow semi-hot peppers. But, my real successes were zinnias and sunflowers. I had never before been able to grow a single sunflower. The chipmunks love the seeds and dig them out. I tried putting chicken wire down and they got through that. I tried sprouting them first but they just ate the sprouts. This year I built a little hot-house frame and grew them in peat pots. I let them get a foot tall before planting the whole pot into the garden. Sunflowers don't like to be transplanted so you have to plant the whole pot. These sunflowers were the Russian Giant variety and they got 8 feet tall and had great big happy flowers. I have now harvested them and will see if I can get some seeds to eat. The zinnias were a mistake. My daughter started them and gave them to me thinking they were peppers. But they were zinnias, they grew to be six feet tall and are covered with flowers. Orange, pink, red – just wonderful to cut and bring in the house for a little liveliness of décor in the kitchen. Now, I will present to you my other reasonable success this year. First I'll tell you a story. In the book “ he tells the story of the establishment of the modern state of Israel. When the settlers were establishing the first Kibbutz, they raised pigs. Since pigs are not kosher, when they talked about the pigs or listed them in inventory they referred to them as “Turkeys”. Which brings me to my last reasonable success on my garden. My Columbian Tomatoes. Now I used to grow the old varieties of these Columbian tomatoes, back in the 70's when it was illegal to do so. Now in Massachusetts the Columbian Tomatoes are legal to grow for personal purposes. I bought 20 seeds of a variety of these tomatoes, whimsically called “Purple Kush”. Don't get me wrong, I don't eat these tomatoes anymore, I just like to grow them. About 15 of them sprouted. I gave 10 away to friends. I planted 5 in my garden. 2 survived. But, here we are at the end of September and they are quite vigorous. They are like little Christmas trees. About 3-4 feet tall and you can smell them 20 feet away. I'm not going to try to bring them inside the house. I'll harvest them when the frost is approaching and hang them in my attic to dry. If any of you out there have a hankering for Columbian Tomato casserole send me a note. I hear they make excellent baked goods. Oh – and apples. I've got a tree full of apples. I've made apple sauce. I'm eating 6 apples a day. I'm going to turn into an apple. That's your garden update. How was it? Everything you hoped it would be? OK – In section two I'm going to talk about the supply chain because it's on the top of everyone's mind. But – like I said – in section one I'll talk about starting from scratch. Here's the thing. I told you I'm doing a fitness project at work. I leaned in. Because of that I'm getting these types of questions. And it's fun and rewarding to be able to answer them. By leaning in I'm getting rewarded. Find something you can lean in on and see what comes back to you as a result! On with the show! About Zero ZERO — The End of Prostate Cancer is the leading national nonprofit with the mission to end prostate cancer. So anyhow – become a member so I can keep paying my bills. … The RunRunLive podcast is Ad Free and listener supported. Section One – Starting from scratch - … Chris Twiggs Chris Twiggs As Chief Training Officer at Galloway Training, Chris Twiggs has mentored and coached thousands of runners in local Galloway Training Programs, Galloway Customized Training Plans, and Galloway Charity Partners. Chris is an RRCA Certified Coach, Boston Marathon Qualifier, Ironman distance triathlete, and accomplished ultra-runner (15x Hardrock 100 finisher). He serves on the board of The DONNA Foundation, helping to put on the nation's only marathon dedicated to finishing breast cancer. He also works with dozens of races around the country to provide Galloway Pacers, helping to run/walk/run participants to the finish line with smiles on their faces. Twitter - @Ctwiggs Instagram - @christwiggs Email - Section Two – Supply Chain - Outro Ok my friends we have run-walked through the end of episode 4-464 of the RunRunLive Podcast. Quick updates for you. My Apocalypse podcast is in it's second season and doing well. I'm having a lot of fun with that. I haven't been running, but I have been volunteering for races. I volunteered for Wapack and last weekend the local 5K. Funny story. The race director is a local guy, used to be the track coach and a pretty good IronMan. When I saw the email I responded that I could help out. And, of course, since he knows me, he ended up putting me in charge of the course marshals! Remember what I told you. Somewhere near you is a local race that needs your help. So, that was fun. I promised an Ollie Wollie update. We've been through 4 session at K9 now. Both my wife and I are going which is great. He's doing really well. One of the best things is that he's learned to wait at the door for me to go through it and give him the release command. He's a lot better on the lease. He sits and stays very well. They don't do treat training at K9. They are all about the Martingale collar, which is a choke collar. You correct the dog by giving them a pop on the choke collar. It doesn't hurt the dog, but it gets his attention. He's doing great and I think it's giving him confidence. I had him out in some pretty busy places today and he responded well. Next week We have a conversation with Murray, one of our runner friends, who is a South African, teaching English in Korea and has written a book about meditation. To take you out I'll give you an opportunity to do some good! I'm going to run-walk the virtual Boston Marathon this year for Zero the organization to end prostate cancer. Since I've got so many people in my life that have been impacted by this stupid disease. I've set up a page you can donate at. And since they let you set up a vanity URL I created one that I'm quite proud of And I'm going to put it here at the end of the show so you can go there and do it now. Even if you've just come in from your run, and you're all sweaty, and you can't sit donw at the computer without ruining the chair. Grab a towel. Think about all the dads and brother and friends. And click that link. And I'll see you out there. My Apocalypse show -> MarathonBQ – How to Qualify for the Boston Marathon in 14 Weeks - Rachel -> Coach Jeff ->

RUN We need to celebrate Donna Marathon Weekend and recapping Dana’s virtual running of the Booby Trap Challenge. We talk about his 5K and Half Marathon experiences, plus lessons learned about training for a challenge like this. We also celebrate the team of you in the Runcation Nation running to support The Donna Foundation through the Donna Marathon Weekend virtual events. Thank you to so many of you - almost 30 of you- who have answered the call and chosen to register to run anywhere from 0.0 to 110 miles, “everywhere, together.” Last week many of you ran the distance and submitted official finish times and others will begin to complete their own race at their “own pace” through the end of March. Thank you all for supporting this amazing organization! Check out the Run Eat Drink Podcast Donna Marathon Weekend Playlist our team created on AppleMusic and Spotify: AppleMusic Spotify EAT We celebrated Valentine’s Day and the completion of Dana’s virtual races at Blue Dog Bar & Grill with a great local brunch! Fresh local seafood was featured in dishes like Conch Patties, Smoked Fish Dip, and Shrimp and Grits. Plus, it is Stone Crab season The homemade mustard sauce with the fresh claws was so tasty! It is a great local place that made us feel like we were on vacation only 15 minutes away from home. DRINK This week, we talk to Collin and Annie Dawkins, Founders of Sunday’s Best LLC and Sunday’s Bloody Mary Mix. We loved the Bloody Mary we had at Southern Grounds in Jacksonville and wanted to celebrate with a great Bloody Mary at home. RUN Dana did an Iron Man this week! Really, Dana ran a 10K this week. He earned a medal from the Medal Chasers Assemble Series, “Part of the Journey is the End.” The medal features Iron Man and lights up! It is so cool. And as fans of Tony Stark, the title of the virtual…so appropriate. Even better, the featured charity is one we have talked about before, the Pinky Swear Foundation. According to their website, "Pinky Swear Foundation eases the financial and emotional impacts experienced by children with cancer and their families by providing basic needs support during a very challenging time.” It is an amazing mission and we are so happy to feature this foundation through this virtual event provided by Medal Chasers. We thought highlighting this race was also very timely, as we also have an entire team of the Runcation Nation running to support The Donna Foundation through the Donna Marathon Weekend virtual events. Thank you to so many of you - almost 30 of you- who have answered the call and chosen to register to run anywhere from 0.0 to 110 miles, “everywhere, together.” This week is the week many of you will run the distance and submit an official time and others will begin to complete their own race at their “own pace” while supporting this amazing organization. Thank you all! EAT This week, we feature another recipe from our kitchen. Actually, it is one we found on Blissful Basil. The images there just made our mouths water and we had to try it! Ashley, who creates these recipes, features plant-based recipes here. We thought a brunch recipe would be perfect for post-virtual race refueling. The Southwest Sweet Potato Breakfast Hash has so many levels of heat and layers of flavor, while being vegan! Sweet potato, guacamole, and chipotle cream come together for a hearty and satisfying dish! DRINK This week we are joined by one of the owners and the Director of Operations from Barrel of Monks Brewing, Kevin Abbott. Barrel of Monks brews Witty in Pink every October and donates to a local organization supporting those who battle cancer. Kevin sat down with us to talk about the inspiration behind this tasty brew. We found it at Total Wine at this time of year, luckily. Perfect finish line beverage! You can find Barrel of Monks on Twitter, FaceBook, and Instagram as well as at www.barrelofmonks.com THAT’S A WRAP! - Here’s hoping you are off to a great year in 2021! Again, Kevin Abbott, we can’t thank you enough for being so generous with your time! We hope to see you again over in Boca Raton soon! RUN We have a great interview to share with you this week. We are faithful followers of the run-walk-run method founded by America’s Coach and Olympian, Jeff Galloway. But we have never talked about all the resources available to implement this training strategy. We talk with Chris Twiggs, National Program Director of Galloway Training, on this episode. He shared his journey to becoming Program Director with us. Chris also highlights Galloway Training Groups worldwide that you can find and join to get in-person support. When that is not an option, there is an excellent value in Galloway Customized Training with Chris. He creates a 6-month training plan for you and hosts online conversations weekly. Customized Training provides an online platform called Final Surge to see your training, message Chris, and document your progress. Finally, if you want to, you can get coaching from Jeff Galloway himself through E-Coaching. You have direct email access to Jeff in this type of training. Jeff creates your plan and continues to modify it throughout the six months of working with him. You can find out more about all these training tools and more on www.jeffgalloway.com. Coach Twiggs, we can’t thank you enough for spending time with the Runcation Nation! Best of luck to you in your Ultra during The Donna Marathon Weekend in February! EAT Chris talks about his own choices for nutrition before a run and during a run. He has toast before a race. Coach Twiggs is a lucky one who can rely on gels during a race. We also asked him what he likes to celebrate after crossing the finish line, too! For example, a place we have wanted to try at Disney Springs in Orlando called B.B. Wolf’s Sausage Company. In Jacksonville, he talked about a place that so many have recommended to us on more than one occasion, V Pizza. We could destroy some pizza after a race in Jacksonville! DRINK Coach Twiggs shares his favorite beverage options. Before a race, he is a man after our hearts because he drinks coffee and has a Nespresso just like we do! During a race, he relies on Tailwind. We’ve always wanted to try it. After a race, where does he go to celebrate? It’s a place that we want to get to, Oga’s Cantina. Who could resist a drink called the Fuzzy Tauntaun? In Jacksonville, he says check out Flask and Cannon. THAT’S A WRAP! - Here’s hoping you are off to a great year in 2021! Again, Coach Twiggs, we can’t thank you enough for being so generous with your time! We hope to see you again at a race soon! Special thanks to our newest patrons, Cheryl Goodwin and Jennifer Hall! RUN The Donna Marathon Weekend is one we have often talked about and recommended highly as a bucket-list runcation. The virtual events can be completed in a variety of ways. RUN We will feature Juliana Hever and Ray Cronise on a later episode after we have finished editing the interview together to share with you. We are still getting over the excitement and realization that we actually talked with them. This week we chat with fellow podcaster Kevin Gwin of the Extra Mile Podcast and Extra Mile Podcast Galloway Edition. In this episode he talks about the inception of the podcasts he hosts and what inspired his Extra Mile Virtual to support The Donna Foundation. If you need support, the Facebook group he started and all the “loveable extra milers” who follow Jeff Galloway’s run-walk-run method to complete runs and races is great. All of the people in the group are so positive and share their running journeys as well. EAT Fat Point Brewing is a great place in Punta Gorda we featured on Episode 93 of our show. It was their 5th anniversary this weekend, and we love their brewery, taproom, and people. So we celebrated with them. We had some amazing food items that we had at the party. We both had brat sandwiches, one with sauerkraut and one with grilled peppers and onions. They were amazing with the Bru Man Chu Mustard. Because of the special occasion, they had a crawfish and seafood boil that was very tasty! DRINK We also got to sample some more of Fat Point’s amazing beer menu at the taproom. There was a special version of the Bru Man Chu that had been aged in tequila barrels and some charity beers that were tasty as well. Of course, we still enjoy Big Boca as a great California Common and Cape Haze as a tasty fruity wheat beer. BREWS ON THE RIVER IN CAPE CORAL We are so excited to be a sponsor of the first-ever Brews on the River on April 18th at Tarpon Point Marina! This is a craft beer festival in Cape Coral. We are the official podcast of the event, and we can’t wait to share 20+ breweries plus food trucks and great entertainment with you! If you are coming to the area or you are local and want to attend the event, we have a $5 off promo code. Use RUNEATDRINK5 at checkout when purchasing event tickets to get $5 off a general admission ticket or beer enthusiast ticket. That’s RUNEATDRINK5! Get your tickets and come toast with us and some great breweries we have featured on the show in the past! THAT’S A WRAP! Got a race to share? A great place to eat in your hometown? Sarah and special co-host Katie get up close and personal with four people dealing with breast cancer and its aftermath. The intimate conversation covers:-the power of friends (running and otherwise) during treatment;-how lessons learned through sports can carry over to dealing with chemotherapy;-the surprising side effects of chemotherapy and radiation;-what one woman vowed to do during her treatment (spoiler alert: run-streak); and,-the importance of accepting help when it’s offered. In the intro, Katie shares her breast cancer story—as well as deets about the Jonas Brothers concert she just attended with her oldest daughter! RUN We were on a podcast called Experiences You Should Have with Gail Lovelace Menasco this week! We loved meeting her at Podcast Movement. She gave us a chance to talk about one of our favorite race experiences, the Donna Marathon Weekend in Jacksonville that supports the Donna Foundation in the mission of helping fight the battle to end breast cancer. We talk about Dana’s progress on his road to recovery from surgery and Aimee’s training plan to prepare for the fall race season. In addition, we talk about how we mix up our runs during training by entering races along the way to change up the scenery of longer distances, including Southernmost Half Marathon. Although a repeat for us, it allows us to have a weekend getaway while staying on track with training and show you more of Key West as a runcation or vacation destination. EAT This week we bring you Wicked Streatery! After our training run over the weekend, we went out to Fort Myers Brewing Company for their Kegs & Eggs Sunday Brunch. If you visit the Southwest Florida area, you must have the food from this truck! Wicked Chicken and Waffles, Southwest Breakfast Bowl, and Chimichurri Steak Hash are all must-haves on the menu! DRINK Big Storm Brewing had a new release this week: Firestorm Black IPA. We break it down and try it for the first time as we record the show! At 5.8% ABV and 71 IBU, we did not know if we would like it or what overwhelming flavors we would get from this beer. It was surprising. Not an overwhelming pine flavor, but yet another great offering that we’d have another pint of from Big Storm! THAT’S A WRAP Are there races we should try? How do you mix up your training to stay motivated for the longer runs? Want to reach us with a tip, trick, or recommendations? Our email is info@runeatdrink.net. Or you can call with your “runcation” tips at 941- 677-2733. Thank you for listening! We are looking forward to another great year of the podcast because of all your support! Don’t forget to follow us and let us know where to find you next on our website, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Experiences You Should Have Podcast Show Notes: The Donna Marathon – Breast Cancer Marathon I had the opportunity to interview Dana and Aimee from the Run Eat Drink Podcast at the largest podcast conference in the world, Podcast Movement. They travel to races all over and when I turned to them and asked them that one race that you should experience, they both responded with the same answer: DONNA Marathon. What is the DONNA Marathon and Why Should You Experience it? It’s a race that happens every year near Jacksonville, Florida to help support breast cancer research, survivors and those affected by breast cancer. This is a race for everyone. You don’t need to be an expert runner to participate. This is a special race that the entire community comes together to support and you don’t have to run a marathon to be a part of it. There are many shorter races and you don’t have to run them either. This event is a true community. This race is for survivors, someone fighting breast cancer, and for family and friends of a survivor or someone who may have passed from breast cancer, or for anyone who wants to come out and support the cause. It’s a very special event where it’s much more than a race. The Community The neighborhoods decorate their houses with pink and white balloons. People will pass out mimosas, blueberry muffins, coffee, treats, and the entire community comes together. You are adopted by the community while you are there for the event. Many people will stay in front of their houses until the last runner passes by. Honor Your Family and Loved Ones I interviewed Dana and Aimee above (press the play button at the top to hear the full interview) and they did a great job of painting the experience. Partway through the interview, Dana shared that he lost his mom to breast cancer. That moment still tugs on my heart as I imagine them being at the DONNA surrounded by others who may have been in similar situations and coming together as a community and to walk/race in memory and support of their loved ones. DONNA Marathon History Their coach, Jeff Galloway (former Olympian) helped found this race with Donna Deegan (who this race is named after) because they wanted to help families lower their stress who are dealing with breast cancer. They wanted healing to be the primary focus. It’s an official event of The DONNA Foundation which gives financial assistance and support to those dealing with breast cancer. They also help fund breast cancer research. This was year number 13 for the race, and they do an amazing job of putting it together and building the community. The race is sponsored by the Mayo Clinic, which is located in Jacksonville and is a massive contributor to breast cancer research and treatment. Many employees run in the race, help support it, pass out food, and they truly embrace the DONNA. Also shout out to Andi Sharp who is a doctor for the Mayo Clinic, breast cancer survivor and was the fastest woman at the course in 2019. If you want to help support the DONNA foundation, check out the donate button below where you can give to this incredible giving and caring foundation. Donate to the Donna Foundation When and Where is the DONNA Marathon? It starts and finishes at Neptune Beach just 12 miles east of downtown Jacksonville at Beaches Town Center. The next race is February 7-9, 2020. Friday is a Social Shakeout and 5K to get to know the other racers. Saturday is the 5K and they start the Ultra then as well, while Sunday is the half marathon and marathon. It’s always the 2nd weekend in February. This week's episode starts a series featuring one of our favorite race weekends, the 2019 Donna Marathon Weekend! RUN The 2019 Donna Marathon Weekend started with a Social Shakeout Run on Friday. It was a 5k to get us going for the fun weekend of running ahead. I love that this weekend gets kicked off by an easy run where you can meet some great people you'll be running on the same course with during the races like Donna Deegan, the Chief Eternal Optimist and founder herself, Olympian and America's Coach, Jeff Galloway, Dr. Edith Perez of the Mayo Clinic, and Dr. Andi Sharp of the Bouncy HuntERs, an organization that raises money for The Donna Foundation. The course for this fun run is also a preview of a latter part of the half marathon as well. It means so much when we encounter them on the course during the 5k and the half later in the weekend, having heard their stories of strength, survival, and supporting others. EAT The Mini Bar... when you hear that you might think of a hotel mini bar, but in this case, it is made from scratch donuts and creative coffee. It is right next door to Southern Swells Brewing and the perfect breakfast food to refuel after a run. The place has a fun takeout counter that is designed to look like a Volkswagen van. And did I mention the mini doughnuts that take you back to childhood? Tasty flavors based on favorite childhood cereals and desserts make up their menu and cereal lattes to comfort you like staying in and watching Saturday morning cartoons on a chilly day. (It was a little cold on race morning!) DRINK We had to celebrate the start of our great weekend of running to support a great cause with a tasty beverage, of course! So we headed to Southern Swells Brewing. We had a chance to chat with owner Corey Adams about a flight of their original beers. They are focused on citrusy New England IPAs, stouts, and sours. Normally, we don't select these types of beers from a menu, but Corey really set us up with selections that gave us the inspiration to give those types of beer a first glance the next time we look at a beer menu. He gave us a nice education about the different kinds of hops that can used to create IPAs and thus create different flavors than you would typically expect. Thank you, Corey! This week's episode starts a series featuring one of our favorite race weekends, the 2019 Donna Marathon Weekend! RUN The 2019 Donna Marathon Weekend started with a Social Shakeout Run on Friday. It was a 5k to get us going for the fun weekend of running ahead, but it also gave us the chance to sit down with three very important people who started this race weekend. It was such an honor to talk with these three and find out how this weekend got its roots. Thank you so much to, Amanda Napolitano, Executive Director of the Donna Foundation, who arranged this time for us to chat! Donna Deegan is the Chief Eternal Optimist of the Donna Marathon Weekend and the Donna Foundation. Dr. Edith Perez is a professor of medicine at the Mayo Clinic. Finally, an amazing friend of our podcast and America's Coach, Jeff Galloway, is the one who suggested that Donna start it all when they spotted each other at an Expo for the Gate River Run. They talk about the history of the race, the amazing advancements in research and the families it has supported, and the reasons this weekend is a must-do and such a special race weekend. It is one that we plan to do every year to honor those we have lost to breast cancer, but also to experience one of the best running block parties we have ever been to in our running career! To find out about the race weekend go to www.breastcancermarathon.com and to support the foundation go to www.thedonnafoundation.org. THAT'S A WRAP Thank you for watching! The Bouncy HuntERs are a group we met on the Social Shakeout Run at Southern Grounds Coffee on Friday of our Donna 26.2 Marathon Weekend two weeks ago. Andi Sharp, who started the group to benefit the Donna Foundation, took time to talk with us about the group that raises money for the Donna Foundation to help finish breast cancer, her personal endeavor with Gr8ful G8als, and what it is like to experience the Donna Marathon Weekend for the first time. She will also be running the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic this weekend as part of the Treasure Chest Challenge we will both be completing. We have linked to her Facebook group here so you can find and support their endeavors.

He and his wife Barbara are such genuine and supportive people who are passionate about running. Their beautiful half marathon and 5K courses support great causes like the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors and the Piedmont Dog Park as well as the Donna Foundation and Team 413. The half marathon course takes you through some of the best sights you can see in Atlanta. This year, the race was a challenge for me because I rolled my ankle before mile 1 and had to fight to finish. Next year, I will come back stronger and more careful than ever to highlight that beautiful course. It was a race that tested endurance, mental toughness, and dedication. The people on the course, especially the 4:30 pacers and that great group of ladies who finished just ahead of us and stayed to cheer us on, as well as Jeff at the finish, were wonderful to us and we can't thank them enough! Next year will be great! EAT The Wrecking Bar Brewpub is located in a renovated and historic space in Atlanta. The food we had - the corn pups - were incredible! Wrecking Bar cheddarwurst, cornbread battered and fried, then served with curry ketchup & yellow mustard. Melt in your mouth tender meat and the sweetness of the cornbread along with the tart and tang of the dipping sauces... just incredible. DRINK The Wrecking Bar Brewpub has homemade ginger beer, lime, and bourbon in their Kentucky mule. It was perfect for bourbon lovers or anyone who likes a Moscow mule but is looking for a twist. Their drink menu is eclectic and beer selection is vast and has something for everyone, too. THAT'S A WRAP! Thanks for watching! Please subscribe and rate us in iTunes.
