In this episode, we explore the magic of fall—a season filled with nostalgia, warmth, and tradition. From the crunch of leaves underfoot to the taste of pumpkin spice, fall triggers our senses and memories. Join us as we reflect on childhood memories, the beauty of fall evenings, and even a lighthearted take on the season from comedians Iliza Shlesinger and Jim Gaffigan. Plus, a discussion about fall traditions like wiffle ball and pumpkin beer!
Seasonal creep IS the spooky season!Yes, we're still ranting about this, dammit. First the Oktoberfests hit the shelves in early July and now the pumpkin beers are out. I even saw one for "Spooky Season." Please. Stop. We still have a full month of Summer left and we want to enjoy it.However.... Brian did propose a compromise. It's not a bad idea and it gives every beer the season and love it deserves. More info in the show. Some cool news from NB2A (National Black Brewers Association) as two breweries received equipment grants from established breweries. A 20 bbl brewhouse and a canning line and heading to new homes. Always great to see how craft breweries help each other. Not so cool news, Cambridge Brewing is closing after 35 years. Close to home, Southern Brewing Co. in Athens, GA announced their closure but said they hope to return one day. That Lazarus move is a tough one for brewery to pull off. Good luck to them.In other news beer prices are rising faster than inflation, Abu Dhabi gets it's first brewery (the only one in 100,000 sq mi!), and more on brewing in space. Far out, man.Have a great week and drink something good. Thanks for listening to Beer Guys Radio! Fall is our fave time of year for both the fashion and the beer, and while last year we looked at all things Oktoberfest, this year Cee and Nate decided to focus exclusively on pumpkin beers. They scooped up every available pumpkin brew from the LCBO and cracked them all open to look at the different styles, approaches and offerings from fantastic breweries from across the province. With beers that range from blonde ales, amber ales, porters and stouts, there's a pumpkin beer for every palate and mood, all with varying degrees of adjuncts and spices. They got into Great Lakes Pumpkin Ale, Lake of Bays Pumpkin Ale, Grand River Highballer Pumpkin Ale, Flying Monkeys Theatre of Madness, Niagara Oast House Brewers Country Bumpkin, High Park Pumpkin Spice Latteale, Bobcaygeon Pumpkin Spice Latte, Whitewater Pumpkin Spice Espresso Porter, Big Rig Tales From The Patch, and a nice little bonus, Barncat Artisan Ales' Pumpkin Spice Rat Queen Bourbon Barrel-Aged Stout. If you didn't know any better, you might assume that the whole pumpkin beer “thing” was an offshoot of Starbucks' pumpkin-spiced-latte phenomenon. But it most certainly is not. The PSL only hit the American drinking public in 2003. Pumpkin beers, on the other hand, are typically dated to 1983 or thereabouts, shortly after one Bill Owens opened Buffalo Bill's Brewery in Hayward California. It was there that Owens — a former award-winning photojournalist and future founder of the American Distilling Institute — pioneered the autumnal brew, based on a historical recipe attributed to George Washington, creating one of craft brewing's most enduring calendrical calling cards in the process. It's (almost) fall, y'all - we've all seen the pumpkin beers back on the shelves of our local bottle shops and on tap at breweries partaking in the seasonal style. How did pumpkin beers come to be? Was it just to appeal to the PSL faithful? Is there really pumpkin in pumpkin beers? Were our founding fathers homebrew enthusiasts? All these questions and more, on this episode of Secondary Fermentation!

S4-E38, Ever wished you could enter a world where beer battles were a thing? Well, strap in because you're about to witness the great Battle of the Pumpkins as we pit two delicious pumpkin beers against each other. It's Block House Brewing Company's Pumpkin Ale vs Sam Adams' Jack-o, and it's going to be a taste explosion. You'll marvel at the notes of caramel, graham cracker, and whipped cream that make these brews bear an uncanny resemblance to pumpkin pie. You'll even find yourself toying with the idea of adding a rim of caramel, cinnamon sugar, and brown sugar to further enhance the flavor. We're shifting gears and stepping into the future with an in-depth discussion on the Rivian SUV, a high-tech electric vehicle that has us all impressed. We're talking everything from bird sounds to auto leveling - this car is straight out of a sci-fi movie. Stick around as we discuss potential uses for this beauty, including a creative idea of using it for drive-in movies with surround sound. We're also diving deep into unique beer recipes, including a beer cocktail with an alcoholic shot and a pumpkin beer bomb with a graham cracker crust. We bet you've never heard of anything like it. We're not just about beers and cars though, we like a good laugh too. Get ready to chuckle as we share funny stories, jokes, and even reveal the most embarrassing songs on our phones. We also get serious as we explore various topics like how to make sriracha with red jalapenos, the process of aging bourbon in a barrel, and the experience of visiting a local brewery. So grab a beer, sit back and enjoy the ride - this is one episode you don't want to miss.Support the showwww.anotherreasontodrink.com

There's no denying when “spooky season” comes around that pumpkin beers will be available. A popular autumnal seasonal, pumpkin beers are still a dominant force in “seasonality” in beer. Today we talk to two breweries who brew pumpkin beers with an eye to how they're made, why they are a conversation starter and their lasting impact in the world of craft beer.Guests Chad Henderson is a NC native and original team member of NoDa Brewing Company. He has been the head brewer for the Charlotte based brewery for the company's 12 year existence and is also Co-owner. Chad's focus through the NoDa Brewing Company beers and products is to deliver a diverse array of exciting beers that range from traditional to experimental with an emphasis on quality and consistency. The brewery releases new beers every week and has evolved to operate out of a 35,000 sq ft facility (that will soon be expanded to 50,000 sq ft) and a 60 bbl production system and a 5 bbl RnD system. The brewery has won multiple major awards between World Beer Cup, GABF, US Open and many other local and national competitions. Chad prides himself and team on being both a dependable brewery and one that is constantly looking for a new expression through beer while staying involved with the community through various charities and events.Tyson Arp is Overlord of Brewing for Nebraska Brewing Company (NBC), overseeing operations at their production brewery. His journey into craft beer began as a homebrewer in the early 2000's and eventually he volunteered his way into an assistant brewer position at NBC in 2007. Upon becoming Head Brewer in 2009, his focus on quality and process documentation quickly put NBC on the map as the most awarded brewery in the state. Success of Tyson's barrel aged products and expanding markets led NBC to open a packaging brewery in 2014 where Tyson was integral in the design, engineering, and implementation of the new facility. Since then, continued focus on team building and process standardization has allowed Tyson more time to focus on product development and streamlining procedures throughout the brewery operations.
