A good quote says, "the only person who will take care of the older you someday is the younger you today." When we are young, we frequently put off thinking about retirement and prefer to worry about it later. However, our strength will not forever serve us well. Nevertheless, if we desire our future to be more promising, we must thoughtfully prepare for it.    Moreover, a self-directed IRA is a recommended type of individual retirement account that allows you to save for retirement with assets that are off-limits for conventional IRAs. Thus, we must seek a more profound knowledge of it since many individuals who don't utilize self-directed IRAs are unaware of it. We must also surround ourselves with like-minded people who are willing to share their failures and successes.  Their journey can teach us vicariously to learn and grow in life, knowledge, and skills. As our guest speaker says, "financial literacy is not taught in schools, but our future depends on understanding it."   Kaaren Hall is a single mother, Certified IRA Services Professional (CISP), Self-Directed IRA Professional (SDIP), CA Real Estate License, founder of Orange County Real Estate Investors Association, and the CEO of UDirect IRA Services. These services help thousands of Americans invest their IRA outside the stock market into real estate, land, private notes & more to improve their financial future. Kaaren discovered a strategic way to put her 20+ years in mortgage banking, real estate, and property management to use. Hall brings her full passion to educating Americans about the little-known investment vehicle. She has educated tens of thousands of investors and professionals on building wealth by taking control of self-directed IRAs. Through UDirect IRA, she has guided thousands of Americans through diversifying their investments using self-directed IRAs.   In this special episode with Kaaren Hall, we'll learn about the things concerning Individual Retirement Accounts. Tune in today as we discover how important it is to understand where to correctly put the hard-earned money that can better serve you in the future.    "The retirement account is for later; it's not for now. So, everything you do in this retirement account is to save for your future self." – Kaaren Hall   Topics Covered: (00:00:00) Introduction + Episode Snippet (00:00:13) Introducing our special guest, Kaaren Hall (00:00:33) Advertisement: Obtain financial freedom with passive income! The world can be so chaotic sometimes. Different things will motivate you to decide on relationships, education, and career. However, we can never eliminate the hardships and pressures it produces within our minds. Thus, for mentally tough people, life can be more traumatic and challenging to handle or even to survive. Many incredible individuals, such as athletes, military, and veterans, are likely to experience depression that could sometimes lead to significant problems in mental, emotional, and physical health.    Moreover, it has been stated that the core of mental toughness is self-compassion and that mentally tough individuals need to possess it. We often overlook our personal needs in our quest for success and belongingness. And it makes us more vulnerable and weaker, not having enough strength to fight more battles. Hence, we must free ourselves from societal expectations and start reclaiming ourselves from the destructive influence of imposter syndrome and the negative voices which destroy our confidence. We must also be willing to face the grief, guilt, and shame from our pasts and learn to process everything with the help of others who are willing to stretch out their hands for our good. As our guest speaker encourages us, "Choose life, you have one. Choose self-compassion; you deserve it."    Dr. Jillian Rigert is an Oral Medicine Specialist, Head and Neck Cancer Researcher, YouTuber, Mental Health and Quality of Life Advocate, Air Force Veteran, and Certified Professional Leadership Coach. Jillian had experienced depression during a time when a career was a marker of success by societal standards. After years of navigating a life-threatening level of burnout, career transitions, identity loss, and deep diving into personal healing- life and leadership coaching completely transformed Jillian's life's trajectory. Now, she "lives to give it" and pays forward the fantastic benefits of coaching. Today, she specializes in partnering with clients as they work to reconnect with their essential selves, often during times of burnout and transitions in career and life. She supports individuals in exploring their authentic goals, establishing boundaries, and navigating the best next steps in their journeys.   In this special episode with Dr. Jillian Rigert, we'll learn about the journey of a woman who battled with the negative thoughts within her mind and felt the loneliness of unbelonging. She seeks to raise mental health awareness, particularly on burnout, mind-body healing, and an eating disorder. Tune in as she shares her bravery, struggles, grief, and self-compassion story.   "It was the environment that I was at that helped me to lean into everything and start to see that I needed to make some changes." – Dr. Jillian Rigert     Topics Covered: (00:00:00) Introduction + Episode Snippet (00:00:17) Introducing our special guest, Dr. Jillian Rigert (00:00:46) Advertisement: Obtain financial freedom with passive income! I picked my head up and thought I was not sure this was the right fit for me. The things I was experiencing at the time were during periods of long hours without sleep, and so I was becoming suicidal." – Dr. Jillian Rigert   "So, I was just thinking, everyone looked fine around me, but why am I the only one that cannot hold up to what we need to do to be successful in surgery?" – Dr. Jillian Rigert   "I got clouded by my lack of confidence, and I thought I didn't deserve to be in oral surgery." – Dr. Jillian Rigert   "The core of mental toughness is self-compassion. People that are very mentally tough need to have self-compassion." – Dr. Jillian Rigert   "Being remote helped me to realize that a chaotic setting isn't the best fit for me. So, to have a boundary, I didn't want to work with patients with eating disorders, but I resonated with this similar experience with people with cancer enough that I could learn how to hold space for them." – Dr. Jillian Rigert   "No steps are wasted, whether they're failure, success, ups, downs, happiness, sadness, it all comes together to make us a unique individual." – Dr. Derrick Burgess   "We go through things each day, and we feel so isolated because when the pressure is on you, it seems like you're alone many times." – Dr. Derrick Burgess   "Self-compassion is not fluffy. It's not something that should be overlooked and seen as a soft skill. It's necessary." – Dr. Jillian Rigert   "We should never make everything big at one time. Will Rogers once said, "Real estate is the best investment in the world because it is the only thing they're not making anymore."   Real estate investment has been proven the safest investment in the world since it cannot be lost, stolen, or carried away. It provides the highest returns, outstanding values, and risk lower than any other investments. It is an imperishable asset, ever increasing in value. However, with a background, entering the real estate market might be more manageable. Even though it doesn't require as much formal education as other careers, we still need particular learnings to thrive in this field.    The world is currently seeing the highest pace of inflation in decades. Thus, saving your hard-earned income in a bank can be riskier than investing it and making your money work for you. We must be educated and learn as much as possible to purchase with common sense, diversify our assets, earn passive income, hedge against inflation, and manage with reasonable care.   Dr. Ronnie Shalev is a mother, wife, physician, serial entrepreneur, real estate owner, founder, and co-owner of Sherwin Properties. She is a board-certified ER doctor whose demanding career has sapped all of her energy, leaving her exhausted, burned out, and unable to enjoy her family, children, and daily life. Because she made great money, she felt bound by the "golden handcuffs" and saw no end. Through passive real estate investing, she was able to quit her grueling emergency room job and move into a less-demanding role at a medical device company. Dr. Ronnie is now assisting people in generating passive income so that they may spend their time as they like and no longer feel constrained by their jobs.   In this special episode with Dr. Ronnie Shalev, we'll learn more about real estate investing and how we can earn passive income through apartment investing. She seeks to help professionals be free to do what they want with their time and not be held captive by their jobs because she's been there, and she understands how exhausting it can be.   "They somehow brainwash us and say, we're doctors, and we only take care of patients, we don't know the business, so we shouldn't be worrying about it." – Dr. Ronnie Shalev   Topics Covered: (00:00:00) Introduction + Episode Snippet (00:00:33) Introducing our special guest, Dr. Ronnie Shalev (00:01:00) Advertisement: Obtain financial freedom with passive income! Everybody has a story to share. And there's something to be learned from every experience we encounter in life. Our journey defines who we are, and our decisions establish who we become. However, we are all prone to failure and committing mistakes as we walk through the path we seek to follow – especially first-generation achievers. They are the people from various fields who have little guidance, resources, and opportunities when they struggle to achieve their goals and dreams.   Sharing our story is one of the greatest gifts we can give to the world. And that every story is valuable enough to be heard and impact many lives. Sometimes there are resources and opportunities around us that we fail to see and leverage because we have no one to look up to for guidance. For instance, in sports, athletes get empowered. They tend to become more likely to succeed through knowing others' stories, struggles, disappointments, and the things they wish they knew while striving for their goals. Understanding how people from our chosen fields face struggles and conquer obstacles makes us more alive, courageous, and enthusiastic.   Danielle Berman is an athlete, entrepreneur, and consultant who works daily to build relationships and share stories. She loves the opportunity to connect people, bring people together and solve problems. Danielle serves as an event management consultant, where she helps people share their expertise, value, and perspectives to reach people both at online events and in-person experiences. Danielle has nearly a decade of experience supporting athletes in their lives outside of sports. She specializes in creating impactful partnerships between athletes and nonprofits, event management, and cause marketing campaigns. She founded Tackle What's Next to change the narrative for athletes around life after sports. It is the leading resource for athlete career transition. Through storytelling, the power of conversation, and sharing perspectives, she aims to open doors, build connections and motivate athletes to leverage their athletic experience into opportunities for what's next.   In this special episode with Danielle Berman, we'll learn about the journey of a woman who seeks to raise awareness, share resources, and build a community around what's next in life after sports. She aims to share the challenges and many opportunities available to every athlete in their next chapter.   "And I think it's helpful to talk to athletes in your sport and other sports to understand and know that you're not the only one struggling. Experiences can be good or bad, but that camaraderie of being a college or professional athlete, there's a lot of value confined in just sharing stories." – Danielle Berman   Topics Covered: (00:00:00) Introduction + Episode Snippet (00:00:19) Introducing our special guest, Danielle Berman (00:00:32) Advertisement: Obtain financial freedom with passive income! I think working in sports gives you that same sense of team and working towards a goal." – Danielle Berman   "It's fun to see behind the scenes a little bit and see what people are doing off the court. To know their goals, passions and help them get there." – Danielle Berman   "I think the big thing we found is that people were excited to share their stories, whether they played football, soccer, basketball, or ran track. Whatever it was, these men and women were eager to share and help the next generation of athletes." – Danielle Berman   "Athletes are truly their brand. Once an athlete discovers their power in social media or builds their platform. So, if you're willing to use your platform to promote yourself, especially in a positive manner, your words and story are truly needed." – Dr. Derrick Burgess   "Athletes want to share their story not just to promote themselves but also to help that next generation struggle less." – Danielle Berman   "Being able to relate with each other is one of the most important things about building community for athletes. Being able to be surrounded by like-minded people is very powerful, especially when you can take down that shield and take off the armor and just be yourself and not have to be bravado or whatever it is to feel like you have to be that perfect individual." – Dr. Derrick Burgess   "Our biggest accomplishment so far has just been bringing people together. I think I've been so blown away by the support we've gotten, that the relationships we've been able to build and collaboration we've been able to achieve with other organizations in the same space and people doing similar work." – Danielle Berman   "You never know who's watching you and who's taking an example from you. I think to say that it already exists. Do it better, reach out, connect, collaborate, find the gap that this one thing that exists doesn't fill." – Danielle Berman   "If you have a great idea and you want to do something and make a difference, get started and reach out to those people that are already doing it." – Danielle Berman   "You're never going to be ready. You're never going to feel perfectly prepared; you have to start. And it will guide you a little about where to go from there. So, leap if you feel like you're ready on your own." – Danielle Berman   "Today is better than waiting to be perfect tomorrow or down the road because you will never be perfect in your first attempt at anything. Striving for perfection is good, but we want to have action." – Danielle Berman   "Your journey is the more important part to define who you are than trying to strive to be perfect and package everything before you present it." – Danielle Berman   Connect with Danielle Berman: Website: https://www.tacklewhatsnext.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/tacklewhatsnext Twitter: https://twitter.com/tacklewhatsnext; https://twitter.com/danielleberman LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/tackle-what-s-next/; https://www.linkedin.com/in/danielleberman1/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tacklewhatsnext/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@tacklewhatsnext/   Connect with Dr. Derrick Burgess: Website: https://www.drderrickthesportsdr.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drderrickthesportsdr/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TimeOut.SportsDr LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/derrick-burgess-72047b246/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHGDu1zT4K_X6PnYELu8weg Email: thesportsdoctr@gmail.com   This episode of TimeOut with the SportsDr. is produced by Podcast VAs Philippines - the team that helps podcasters effectively launch and manage their podcasts, so we don't have to. A humorous quote claims that a person doesn't know how much he has to be thankful for until he has to pay taxes. We incur taxes to enjoy the benefits of living in a civilized society. Hence, it has been a significant cause of worry for many of us. Some believe that taxes rob industrious taxpayers of their hard-earned money since it requires them to part with their own money.    However, we can look at it from a more positive perspective since there are many ways to reduce tax liability legally. Many taxpayers miss out on potential tax advantages and overpay due to inadequate knowledge. We must therefore gain a deeper awareness of these issues because we will undoubtedly be dealing with them for the rest of our lives. Moreover, a thorough financial plan is believed to include tax planning as a critical component to assist people in paying the least amount of taxes necessary in the years leading up to and after retirement.   Amanda Han is a Certified Public Accountant, tax strategist, author, and managing director of Keystone CPA.  She specializes in creating tax-saving strategies for real estate investors. As a CPA, she has helped countless national investors to supercharge their wealth building through proactive tax saving.  Some of the tools she uses are her top-selling Amazon books and teachings on prominent publications such as Money Magazine, Google Talks, and CNBC. As a real estate investor of more than ten years, she combines her passion for investing with her tax expertise to help others supercharge their wealth and keep more of what they make.    Matthew MacFarland is a Certified Public Accountant, author, managing director of Keystone CPA, and tax strategist with over 20 years of experience handling individuals, families, real estate investors, and closely held businesses. Matt received his accounting degree from UCLA and a Master's in Taxation degree from USC. As a CPA, Matt brings over two decades of tax planning expertise working specifically with real estate investors and high net-worth individuals.  He has experience in both Big 4 Public Accounting and private client advisory. Matt is an avid speaker and educator on real estate tax strategies who authored The Book on Advanced Tax Strategies for Real Estate Investors. Matt has a passion for animals and founded the Animals for Armed Forces Foundation.   In this special episode with Amanda Han and Matthew MacFarland, we'll learn about the inspiring passion of a married couple who educate people in strategies to save on taxes, decrease tax burden and help entrepreneurs to take advantage of the opportunities around them concerning tax and financial planning.    "Tax advisors are there to help you explain things and set you up to get you in the right position to take advantage of all the opportunities out there." – Matthew MacFarland   Topics Covered: (00:00:00) Introduction + Episode Snippet (00:00:19) Introducing our special guests, Amanda Han and Matthew MacFarland (00:00:32) Advertisement: Obtain financial freedom with passive income! That's why we're so passionate about educating people on how they can control their retirement money." – Amanda Han   "True self-directed custodian does not have any portfolio of assets to offer you. The vast majority limit themselves because they won't give you investment advice since they don't know whether you should buy property in one place or another. It has nothing to do with them. They're just holding your money for you, and you are the one making the investment decision." – Amanda Han   "It's a great way to continue to leverage and continue to grow your portfolio into better performing assets without having that tax drag that's slowing you down." – Matthew MacFarland   "When you're spending money before you do it on any significant items, whether it's a trip, car or a vacation, ask yourself how I can make this a tax-deductible expense." – Amanda Han     Connect with Amanda Han: Email: media@keystonecpa.com Website: https://www.keystonecpa.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/keystonecpainc/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/amandayhan/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/amanda_han_cpa/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvL8-Sq9NtVbh_SO6oDmmAg/ Connect with Matthew MacFarland:  Email: media@keystonecpa.com Website: https://www.keystonecpa.com/; animalsforarmedforces.org  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/keystonecpainc/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvL8-Sq9NtVbh_SO6oDmmAg/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/keystone.cpa/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mattmacfarland/     Connect with Dr. Derrick Burgess: Website: https://www.drderrickthesportsdr.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drderrickthesportsdr/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TimeOut.SportsDr LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/derrick-burgess-72047b246/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHGDu1zT4K_X6PnYELu8weg Email: thesportsdoctr@gmail.com This episode of TimeOut with the SportsDr. is produced by Podcast VAs Philippines - the team that helps podcasters effectively launch and manage their podcasts, so we don't have to. Name, Image, and Likeness is a legal term that describes a person's "right of publicity." It includes their capacity to make money from everything that makes them identifiable, including the ability to accept sponsorships and endorsements from other sources. Thus, it offers opportunities for amateur athletes to engage in commercial activity, sign contracts, make financial decisions, and learn crucial lessons about the business world.   However, research has found that roughly 20% of student-athletes are currently involved in Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL). It has been determined that student-athletes are not participating because they lack support to educate them on the opportunities and fundamental components they need to succeed. Hence, we must aim to teach them their fundamental NIL rights and how to strengthen their name, image, and likeness so they can capitalize on their marketability. They need to know how to manage and enhance their brand and specific skills that would enable them to take advantage of the chances they might encounter.   Mr. Bill Carter is a university lecturer, former college coach, Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) Analyst, Consultant & Educator, and current Youth sports volunteer. Mr. Carter is not a NIL "advocate" but rather an analyst who provides facts and data that help organizations to adapt to the circumstances created by NIL legislation. Today, he is helping brands, sports organizations, universities, and high school associations to understand and adjust to the Name, Image, and Likeness era.   In this special episode with Bill Carter, we'll learn deeply about the importance of Name, Image, and Likeness in the business and student-athletes. Tune in today as we discover how to empower yourself to make correct decisions regarding protecting your Name, Image, and Likeness.   "When you're at the beginning stage in your career, there's a good chance that you haven't felt that kind of fear that can keep you from saying yes." – Bill Carter   Topics Covered: (00:00:00) Introduction + Episode Snippet (00:00:13) Introducing our special guest, Mr. Bill Carter (00:00:47) Advertisement: Obtain financial freedom with passive income! Now, "amateur athlete" means you're not being paid or compensated for things that you do on the field, but you can remain an amateur for things that you do off the field." – Bill Carter   "The people that are bringing the money to the table are educating themselves about how they want to do things so they can win in this situation properly." – Bill Carter   "Many colleges and universities are offering very little to no support to educate student-athletes about what the activities and opportunities are and support them in all sorts of the foundational elements they'll need to have in place to be successful." – Bill Carter   "I think intercollegiate athletics, in particular, tends to be pretty conservative and pretty traditional. And if you come from a traditional mindset, it takes some time and some nudging before you're going to get on board with the change." – Bill Carter   "A university can create an infrastructure around a student-athlete to support her or him, but they cannot be responsible for providing a NIL deal to a student." – Bill Carter   "Every time they do a deal, it's now out in the public domain, and that impacts the perception, reputation, and what people think of the student-athlete." – Bill Carter   "It's not just about getting this paycheck because your name, image, and likeness will follow you beyond college sports. How to Transition Like a Champion with Derrick Furlow Jr.

Who are you outside of what you do? If things went out of your plan, how would you face life and remain on the winning path?   We may make our plans, but God has the final say, and He directs our paths. The human mind has a finite ability to determine the future. However, we can never envisage certain circumstances that the future might give us, such as accidents and mistakes. When bumping into the misfortunes of life, most of us often get discouraged and drown ourselves in all of the negative thoughts, thinking we're a failure. But let us realize that we are more than what we do.    Since we don't have a hold of the future, we must consider preparing ourselves for what lies ahead. For instance, on the athletic field, athletes may encounter an injury that could alter their career or maybe lead to early retirement. Therefore, we must figure out who we are and who we can be outside our expertise. Moreover, we must treasure every opportunity we have and never use our platforms for selfish ambitions. Despite our troubles, we must not focus on gaining but on adding value to people around us because, as we do, we make ourselves more valuable in their lives. As our guest speaker said, "whatever you're going through in life, in the middle of your mess, don't miss your message."   Mr. Derrick Furlow Jr. is an athlete, author, inspirational speaker, entrepreneur, and certified Athlete Mental Health advocate. He is the founder and creator of Sports Life Business. Derrick saw himself as another kid who wanted a better life and knew sports, particularly football, would serve as a vehicle to a better life. After growing up with much adversity, he began working towards shifting his perspective from a temporary experience of playing on the field to a permanent purpose of serving those who currently and formerly played sports. Today, Derrick travels across the United States, sharing his story with the hope of empowering others never to yield when facing adversity. He is a proud graduate of the University of Tennessee, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Legal Studies and his Master of Science degree in Sports Psychology.   In this special episode with Mr. Derrick Furlow Jr., we'll learn about a man who grew up in a challenging environment. It gave him a winning edge in work, mindset, and preparation far from the norm. He will be sharing with us his inspiring journey of how he overcome the unpleasant habit of focusing on selfish ambitions, purpose, and goals.    "Whatever you're growing through, it's preparing you for where you're going. So, you have to realize that where you're at, you have not always been there and where you are, you don't have to necessarily always stay there." -Mr. Derrick Furlow Jr.   Topics Covered: (00:00:00) Introduction + Episode Snippet (00:00:16) Introducing our special guest, Mr. Derrick Furlow Jr. (00:00:30) Advertisement: Obtain financial freedom with passive income! (00:33:50) If you can view it differently, you can do it differently. (00:34:18) Transition Formula: Takeaway + Correlate + Carry over = Successful transition (00:35:46) Connect with Mr. Derrick Furlow Jr.   Key Takeaways:   "When nobody doesn't know you, you can set your expectations of yourself and create your work ethic and mindset." -Mr. Derrick Furlow Jr.   "I went from being on a map to being completely irrelevant. Now it's back at ground zero with no offers, no opportunities, and nothing at the table with me. That was the wakeup call that shook me because that wasn't in my plans." -Mr. Derrick Furlow Jr.   "And I remember the Lord saying, I gave you that stage for glorifying my kingdom, and you used it for your selfish ambition, purpose, and goals. So, I had to take that away to get your attention." -Mr. Derrick Furlow Jr.   "I remember our first coach said, "look to your right, look to your left, half of you all won't be here when it's time to graduate." -Mr. Derrick Furlow Jr.   "Not focusing on my purposes and goals and just working on adding value to those I was associated with and with whom I was associated. And that was the biggest blessing in disguise when I stopped focusing on myself." -Mr. Derrick Furlow Jr.   "If all left fails and this next level doesn't work out, the game has given me some tangible transferable skills that I can apply in my life after sports." -Mr. Derrick Furlow Jr.   "A lot of athletes could have success in their life after sports if they are to figure out what those intangible transfer of skills is." -Mr. Derrick Furlow Jr.   "A lot of times, it's figuring out who you are outside of what you do. Because as an athlete, at first you never have to think about who you are outside of what you do." -Mr. Derrick Furlow Jr.   "There's no way any athlete should transition into life after sport without having a transition formula. And it was pretty simple figuring out all those things that you were good at, good, bad, ugly, indifferent. What can you take away from all those lessons the game gave you?" -Mr. Derrick Furlow Jr.   "The moment you start adding value and giving people what they want, you start getting the things you want." -Mr. Derrick Furlow Jr.   "Whatever you're going through in life, in the middle of your mess, don't miss your message." -Mr. Derrick Furlow Jr.   Connect with Mr. Derrick Furlow Jr.: Website: https://derrickfurlow.com/; https://www.sportslifebusiness.com/order-form27970028 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sportslifebusiness Twitter: https://twitter.com/DerrickFurlowJr Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/derrickfurlowjr/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/derrickfurlowjr/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClB_lOzchtq5AflRwOG0p4Q/featured    Connect with Dr. Derrick Burgess: Website: https://www.drderrickthesportsdr.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drderrickthesportsdr/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TimeOut.SportsDr LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/derrick-burgess-72047b246/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHGDu1zT4K_X6PnYELu8weg Email: thesportsdoctr@gmail.com   This episode of TimeOut with the SportsDr. is produced by Podcast VAs Philippines - the team that helps podcasters effectively launch and manage their podcasts, so we don't have to. How do you deal with disappointments and rejections? Do you isolate yourself from the people you love and take all the blame for failing? People who miss the mark drown themselves in desperation, loneliness, and destructive habits like getting drunk and things of that nature. We can imagine the anxiety running through someone's mind as he comes across that dark place any one of us can experience. Assuredly, all who know how to dream are prone to the dreadful phases of disappointments.   Nevertheless, we must never let disappointments stop us from doing the things we love. Remember that there are things in life that are out of our control. Instead, we must work thoroughly with all of our might and concentrate on the things we can amend. Keep in mind the end goal of where we want to be to cultivate clarity. By doing so, we are putting ourselves in the driver's seat of our lives to be in the position we ultimately want to be. And as we walk through our desired path, we will meet people who can provide us strategies and learnings that we can use as our weapon to triumph. However, while receiving assistance from them, we can still serve them in some ways for their advancement.   Taj Dashaun is an athlete, husband, motivational speaker, podcast host, and the Vice President of Self-Publish in 30 days. He authored four excellent books, including Thrive after Sports and Athletes Entrepreneur, which seeks to help readers have a clear direction of where they want to go and work for their dreams with all diligence. Taj is a professional career coach who works with athletes transitioning into life after sports. Not only does he help athletes land jobs and start businesses, but he also helps them find fulfillment in every single area of their lives. His mission and passion are to reach out and help others overcome the fear, frustration, and uncertainty associated with life post-athletics.   In this special episode with Taj Dashaun, we'll learn about the journey of a man who almost lost himself in the sludge after encountering rejections and disappointments in life as an athlete. However, after several years of stumbling around in the emotional darkness of uncertainty, he began to take his eyes off of himself and focus on serving others. Today, he is inspiring our present generation with his journey. He also runs an intensive program for retired athletes struggling to adapt to life after sports.   "You don't have to be Magic Johnson. You don't have to be LeBron James. You can go to a school that many people haven't heard of and not even played on the professional level and still do great things in the world." - Taj Dashaun    Topics Covered: (00:00:00) Introduction + Episode Snippet (00:00:10) Introducing our special guest, Mr. Taj Dashaun (00:00:27) Advertisement: Obtain financial freedom with passive income! I think I had a naive mentality that everything would work itself out the way it always had."- Taj Dashaun   "And what I realized in hindsight, what I was doing was trying to numb myself because I felt so low and so lost and almost so hopeless as a young man at that point; I wasn't doing anything productive for quite some time. I was feeling sorry for myself, not knowing how to articulate what I was going through." - Taj Dashaun   "The first thing I did was cut out the vices, started working out again, getting up early, started journaling, started listening to podcasts, started reading again. And being productive about my self-improvement and also opening up and having a dialogue with my family about what I was going through." - Taj Dashaun   "I learned about myself, the world, and what it means to be getting better every single day truly." - Taj Dashaun   "The game is not about getting somewhere, but it is about waking up and playing the game of getting better in some way, shape, or form every single day." - Taj Dashaun   "We all have the same underlying mission. So, find people who are doing what you already want to be doing." - Taj Dashaun   "You can always add value. You might not think so, but sometimes you can bring that one piece your mentor needs to advance their project or platform. So always think about what you can do for this person more than what they can do for you?" - Taj Dashaun   "This is like a book that you can pick up, and by the time you put it down, you have moved through the transition and have a clear direction for where you want to go and be executing it." - Taj Dashaun   "How can I bring a bunch of people together who are doing great things? It's great because whoever picks up the book, they get a bunch of different stories, a bunch of different people doing cool things." - Taj Dashaun     "And that's a great part about a mentor because someone has to choose you as their mentee. And for someone to want to mentor you, that means they see a part of themselves, or they see something in you that you do not see in yourself." - Taj Dashaun   "Focusing on who I want to become instead of who I am, puts the power back into your hands and gives you creative control over your own life."   "The question that we should all be asking ourselves every single day, no matter how successful we are, is who do I want to become" - Taj Dashaun   Connect with Taj Dashaun: Website: https://www.tajdashaun.com/ LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/tajdashaun Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tajdashaun/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/coachtajdashaun/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdQgi_hDXaP5-6OtX_Nyf4A Podcast: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/thrive-after-sports-w-taj-dashaun/id1465769826   Connect with Dr. Derrick Burgess: Website: https://www.drderrickthesportsdr.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drderrickthesportsdr/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TimeOut.SportsDr LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/derrick-burgess-72047b246/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHGDu1zT4K_X6PnYELu8weg Email: thesportsdoctr@gmail.com   This episode of TimeOut with the SportsDr. is produced by Podcast VAs Philippines - the team that helps podcasters effectively launch and manage their podcasts, so we don't have to. What do other people say about your value? Do you let them determine your self-worth as an individual? Only you can decide what you believe your worth is, which will determine how you allow people to perceive you. Nowadays, we can easily be influenced by other people's opinions about us and lose sight of our actual value. Our minds can be fed by lies from what people around us say about our worth and how we allow them to treat us. And often permit shortsighted individuals to be bound by their impressions and judgments. In our quest for value and purpose, we must never forget that we are more than what other people say we are and that we must quit looking for validation from everyone else. Likewise, an athlete can experience the same thing in the athletic field. There were moments when athletes struggled with decision-making concerning physical, emotional, mental, and even financial aspects. However, they must persist in leveraging who they are because that will empower them to find a relationship and pact that genuinely aligns with who they are and the things they can do.   Atty. Sivonnia DeBarros is a former division one athlete, two-time best-selling author, speaker, and a first-generation lawyer who works as the protector of the athletes. As a former athlete, she understood the unique challenges athletes faced and the lack of protection that was often attributed to their turmoil. Her primary goal was to be somebody who could provide a voice for athletes and show them how to protect their name, image, and likeness legally. To understand their rights and value that any amount of money can never compensate.   In this special episode with Sivonnia DeBarros, we'll learn about the journey of a woman who, from being a track athlete, never ceases to chase her dream of being a lawyer. She was the first person in her family to go to law school, so she never had somebody to mentor her and show her how to do things in her chosen field. Atty. DeBarros proves that to achieve a goal, we must acknowledge that we all have specific God-given capabilities and that if we can think of a dream, we can do it.   "It's also important that we are educating college athletes not to be so shortsighted and to not operate from a place of desperation" -Atty. How do you cope with life's uncertainty? What are you willing to sacrifice for success?  Everyone aims for success, but not everyone can do whatever it takes to get there. Some of us might find ourselves stuck with a profession with no growth, yet we remain on the line even though it limits our ability to thrive. We've been taught that success is only for brilliant people. However, we must understand that hard work and determination can supersede intelligence.  We all have a unique path to take, and each step we make determines who we become. Indeed, it is agreeable for everyone to say that life is challenging though we go through it differently. We can encounter catastrophes and slip-ups, rejection, and disappointments along our journey, but we must never quit. We must remember that even the bad things contribute something good to our progress. Therefore, we must never let a single opportunity go to waste, although it may require us to sacrifice things such as time, effort, and even our treasures. Our guest speaker concluded, "sometimes you have to give up something good to get something better."   Dr. Timothy Baghurst is a husband, father, author, speaker, coach, and professor of Education and the Director of FSU COACH: Interdisciplinary Center for Athletic Coaching. He earned his doctorate in kinesiology from the University of Arkansas and has three additional graduate degrees from three different countries. He came from a household where no one had ever gone to college, but his hard work and determination brought him to a better place. Though he often finds himself uncertain of his career path, he never quits utilizing the opportunities presented to him. He might not be the brightest guy in the class, but his hard work and perseverance enabled him to find his place of purpose.   "We get one shot at whatever we're trying to achieve. But if we're not prepared for that because we've been slacking and watching Netflix or skipping classes or not going to work on time, we'll have to pay the price." -Dr. Timothy Baghurst   Topics Covered: (00:00:00) Introduction + Episode Snippet (00:00:19) Introducing our special guest, Dr. Timothy Baghurst (00:01:06) Advertisement: Obtain financial freedom with passive income! But when that role is reversed, it's usually not something that a lot of people that are the majority get to experience." -Dr. Derrick Burgess   "What is it like to coach in a different country? What is it like to coach athletes from a different country? We've seen a huge shift in how many student-athletes come from other countries on scholarship because coaches now are willing to recruit from anywhere." -Dr. Timothy Baghurst   "You don't have to be brilliant to become successful; you have to want it and work hard. You can make up for deficits in other areas, such as intelligence." -Dr. Timothy Baghurst   "One thing I do see a lot of which occurs in college is students get their degree, but then it's a now-what situation. And many degrees don't prepare you for a career." -Dr. Timothy Baghurst   "Find a mentor. Find somebody to help you with getting through things. And that was a huge mistake for me. Nobody helped me, and so I floundered. Though we could argue that floundering benefited me later, I floundered." -Dr. Timothy Baghurst   "When somebody promises something, don't take them at their word because talk is cheap." -Dr. Timothy Baghurst   "No steps are wasted. Enjoy each day, each experience; it's all shaping us to be unique individuals." -Dr. Derrick Burgess   "It's a process where we learn from things and get better at what we do. And as long as we have that intention of getting better from learning from our mistakes, there's less regret involved." -Dr. Timothy Baghurst   "Sometimes we rely on networking but don't have the training and knowledge that we need to take advantage of that networking when the opportunity's there." -Dr. Timothy Baghurst   "We want our coaches to be well-equipped because often a coach could play the role of a parent. And that's not far-fetched to think about because so many athletes spend more time with their coach than their parents." -Dr. Derrick Burgess   "If you spend your entire training learning to identify, diagnose and treat, but you never learn how to interact with a human being, you could be brilliant at what you do, but nobody wants to work with you because you don't listen or you don't care." -Dr. Timothy Baghurst   "Sometimes you got to give up something good to get something better." -Dr. Timothy Baghurst   Connect with Dr. Timothy Baghurst: Website: http://www.timbaghurst.com/; https://fsu-coach.fsu.edu/  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/baghurst/  Twitter: https://twitter.com/Baghurst  Email: tbaghurst@fsu.edu    Connect with Dr. Derrick Burgess: Website: https://www.drderrickthesportsdr.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drderrickthesportsdr/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TimeOut.SportsDr LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/derrick-burgess-72047b246/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHGDu1zT4K_X6PnYELu8weg Email: thesportsdoctr@gmail.com   This episode of TimeOut with the SportsDr. is produced by Podcast VAs Philippines - the team that helps podcasters effectively launch and manage their podcasts, so we don't have to. Research had found that 90% of C-suite women played sports when they were young. They believed that sports played a significant role in their success and that it taught them valuable lessons that made a difference. Sports develop advantageous characteristics within an athlete that takes shape through training and discipline.  These experiences enable them to face the world with confidence and enthusiasm. We do not doubt that every parent wants their kids, especially young girls, to become successful adults in the future. We want the next generation to be achievers and goalkeepers. Therefore, introducing them to the athletic world has proven to impact their ability to prosper. However, there is an area worth addressing. Women athletes have tremendous needs that are not being addressed from a physical and mental health standpoint. For instance, when a female athlete decides to continue her career while aiming to have a family of her own, she is positioning herself in a very precarious  situation. They tend to be depressed and pressured by the effects of their decisions concerning childbirth, motherhood, and being an athlete. We must acknowledge the realistic difficulties a female athlete could encounter, which are highly ignored; and raise mindfulness concerning their physical and mental wellness. Dr. Gregory Charlop is a father, author, speaker, wellness expert, physician, and pediatric anesthesiologist by training. Known as the wellness champion of the stars, Dr. Greg is one of the country's most sought-after physicians. He is also the founder of Retired Athlete Health and created the Seven-Week Wellness Program to fill the team void for retired athletes. With research showing that over 90% of c-suite women played youth sports, Dr. Greg made it his mission to promote girls' athletics and leadership. Dr. Greg is also the author of Why Doctors Skip Breakfast: Wellness Tips to Reverse Aging, Treat Depression, and Get a Good Night's Sleep.   In this special episode with Dr. Gregory Charlop, we'll learn about a man committed to enhancing women athletes' health and mental wellness. He will enlighten us about the women athletes' tremendous need for necessities and the depression they encounter as they continue pursuing their goals in life and the athletic world.   "The role I'm playing is to bring other people together who care about them and are innovative. And come up with solutions, to help fund them, or to bring governmental entities together to hopefully craft more powerful solutions than I could do on my own." - Dr. Gregory Charlop   Topics Covered: (00:00:00) Introduction + Episode Snippet (00:00:15) Introducing our special guest, Dr. Gregory Charlop (00:00:37) Advertisement: Obtain financial freedom with passive income! (00:34:21) Motivational interviewing: Figuring out the internal motivation for people to change. (00:36:53) Connect with Dr. Gregory Charlop   Key Takeaways:  "There's this tremendous internal pressure to do what you've trained to do. But you have to answer yourself and figure out what is interesting to you and how you want to spend your time." - Dr. Gregory Charlop   "I interviewed a lot of very successful businesswomen, and almost all of them played sports. And they all felt that sports were important to them and helped get them to where they were. And it taught them valuable lessons that made a difference, and I think helped them succeed in the business world." - Dr. Gregory Charlop   "Social media plays a big role in teenage girls' depression. The combination of factors outside of COVID plus Covid, I think, has pushed a lot of kids over the edge. So, I think there's a lot of concern now about what we do to help these kids out." - Dr. Gregory Charlop   "There's a breathtaking amount of anxiety that I've seen among teenagers that is just unbelievable." - Dr. Gregory Charlop   "And what we identified is that women athletes have tremendous needs that are not being addressed from a physical health standpoint." - Dr. Gregory Charlop   "But I think the myth is that all professional athletes are playing on these with these great organizations, flying in private planes, standing in five-star hotels, and having private chefs and cooks, but that's truly not the truth. Especially if you started to get down to some of the smaller sports that don't create a lot of revenue, you might not be getting the necessities." - Dr. Gregory Charlop   "If you think about it, say you're a 25-year-old woman athlete or a 30-year-old woman athlete, and you're still performing, but you want to have a family. That is a huge, impactful decision for a woman, much more so than for a male athlete. And so, it creates a lot of stress for female athletes because it puts them in complicated positions." - Dr. Gregory Charlop   "The more that athletes open up and the more they feel comfortable expressing what they're going through." - Dr. Derrick Burgess   "A lot of people look at aging that way, like that we are the wooden table on the patio, but I think there's this growing sense that we have much more control over the rate and how we age than we used to think." - Dr. Gregory Charlop   "Your sleep and diet interface with each other. It's also true that if you eat a lot of food before you sleep, that impairs the quality of your sleep." - Dr. Gregory Charlop   "When the person talked about his problem, and he said he wants to improve, swim with the stream and try to focus on aspects that they've shown some internal willingness." - Dr. Gregory Charlop   Connect with Dr. Gregory Charlop: Website: https://www.gregorycharlopmd.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/gregorycharlop/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/gregory.charlop Email: gc@gregorycharlopmd.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/gregorycharlopmd/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCC2AkiRFf6NDRc3MT0eBLNw   Connect with Dr. Derrick Burgess: Website: https://www.drderrickthesportsdr.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drderrickthesportsdr/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TimeOut.SportsDr LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/derrick-burgess-72047b246/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHGDu1zT4K_X6PnYELu8weg Email: thesportsdoctr@gmail.com   This episode of TimeOut with the SportsDr. is produced by Podcast VAs Philippines - the team that helps podcasters effectively launch and manage their podcasts, so we don't have to. We are often told that vulnerability signifies weakness and that tears are for losers. Many of us were trained to suppress our emotions and to let our cries be unheard. There seems to be a strict requirement always to let bravery be evident in our faces and that even a slight display of vulnerability must be forbidden. Here, we start to lose sight of what mental toughness truly entails. Mental toughness is essential for someone to be successful in life. However, at some point, in the lives of athletes, it could lead them to abuse themselves so that it doesn't work anymore for their excellence. We must never compromise our general wellness while striving to be mentally tough. We must realize that to be vulnerable doesn't show fragility. Thus, being vulnerable is allowing other people to check on you and help you when you feel helpless. We must always ask for assistance from someone reliable and able to help us cope with difficulties. Because as mentioned in this episode, don't make yourself an island when you're struggling.   Dr. Victor D. Kidd is a Sports Mental Health Consultant and Sports Psychotherapist who utilizes his clinical training to impact systems in sports organizations and athletes. He is also the CEO and founder of Kidd Wellness Solutions and Consulting, LLC. Dr. Kidd currently assists the National Basketball Association (NBA) on various initiatives that support their innovative approach to supporting key stakeholders. In addition, Dr. Kidd works as a Clinician/ Psychotherapist at Basics Group Practice, LLC providing therapeutic services to athletes, first responders, and Black males experiencing trauma, general and performance anxiety, depression, and co-occurring disorders.    In this special episode with Dr. Victor Kidd, we'll learn about the man who is truly genuine and passionate about the work that he is doing. He believes that a therapeutic relationship is crucial to lifelong fulfillment. He will elucidate mental toughness in its most beneficial context and make us realize that every person should have access to a secure environment where they can deal with stress and happiness.    "Mental toughness is no longer mental toughness when it is at the detriment of your well-being. It is when we experience dysregulation from trying to push through, unhealthy coping mechanisms, and unhealthy social behaviors." - Dr. Victor D. It has been said that the primary goal of education is to develop a well-rounded person. It offers many the capability of handling a wide range of responsibilities.  Likewise, one can obtain a certification that opens the door to a profession. Education has played a significant role for a plethora of individuals in society. It has continually been our weapon against scarcity. It gives one the chance to hone their abilities and enhance them.  Never diminish the fact that the pursuit of education can present a major obstacle for the student-athlete.  The demands of practice and performance in the pursuit of athletics can lead to a lack of concentration on their studies. Thus, we must recognize the existing challenge on their part and be motivated to stretch our helping hand toward them. Every athlete needs to understand that there is life outside sports and that they must prepare themselves to cope. We must help our young athletes be well-rounded individuals capable of adapting to different facets of life. Just like what our guest speaker agreed on, "at the end of the day, it is not all about physical talent."    Dorrell Jalloh is a husband, father, mentor, motivational speaker, and a former team captain at West Virginia University on a football team. He is currently the CEO and founder of Jalloh. Dorrell Jalloh has spent nearly two decades training top athletes in the SE region to perform at their highest potential mentally and physically. Through his work with the RTP Rotary Club, he proudly supports local communities and charitable initiatives impacting the lives of various underrepresented groups. Dorrell promotes generational health, encouraging people to prioritize their bodies, minds, and souls to achieve optimal wellness.   In this special episode with Dorrell Jalloh, we'll learn about a phenomenal man who is helping the next generation of athletes to become young men and women of value. He seeks to make them aware that there is life outside sports and to prepare them for the world. The key to Dorrell's business success is his unwavering commitment to faith. His relationship with the Lord keeps him rooted on the path of his greater calling, inspiring others to live lives enriched with value.   "Learning to be a professional with your money management, time management, and studying your playbooks. Being a good teammate because there are grown men on the team who have kids and families is their livelihood, so they take it very seriously. Some people are taking it very seriously, so I have to understand the dynamics of where I was at that time." - Dorrell Jalloh   Topics Covered: (00:00:00) Introduction + Episode Snippet (00:00:11) Introducing our special guest, Mr. Dorrell Jalloh (00:00:29) Advertisement: Obtain financial freedom with passive income! Then we would study together as a group, and I would study again. And then, before the test, I would study and get an A on the test. All you have to do is study." - Dorrell Jalloh   "Just study before the exam, instead of just showing up thinking you were gonna know it." - Dorrell Jalloh   "Understanding your body, what to eat and what not to eat. I had the opportunity to learn more about that by first seeing it through one of the athletes. And that's when I start to say, okay, I need to start taking this a little bit more serious about my body, my health internally, not necessarily about physically." - Dorrell Jalloh   "Everybody wants to be successful, so if you are gonna do it, this is the harder way, but it's worth it in the end because you're gonna reach your goals as you go up and progress." - Dorrell Jalloh    "Somebody might have the goal of being a doctor, a teacher, or a professional athlete, but whatever it is, it's achievable for each person if you have the skills and if you have access to it." - Dr. Derrick Burgess   "Each individual is completely different, but it's a great way to learn from each one since they have a particular prototype of what they want to do in their lives." - Dorrell Jalloh   "One day, the ball's going to stop dribbling. At some point, you might be 30, or 35; you might be 18 or 19, or you might get injured as a high school player and never be able to play again, so you always got to be well-rounded as an athlete" - Dr. Derrick Burgess   "You have to maximize your moment as an athlete because it can be gone just like a blink of an eye. If you get injured and are not able to return, people think that you have a four-year scholarship, but you have an opportunity of getting a one-year opportunity to play because if you're not cutting, somebody else might come in when you get injured." - Dr. Derrick Burgess   "I pick God first, and that's the center of my life. And since I'm putting God first with school and sports, everything else will take care of itself." - Dorrell Jalloh   "I believe in God, and that's what keeps me grounded and able to help and expand my network to others and help student-athletes with their generational health and provide their nutrition, health, and mindset." - Dorrell Jalloh   Connect with Dorrell Jalloh: Website: www.jallohtrainingacademy.com LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dorrell-jalloh-mba-bb569833/ Email: dorrellsjalloh@gmail.com  Instagram: Coach D (@jallohtrainingacademy) Connect with Dr. Derrick Burgess: Website: https://www.drderrickthesportsdr.com/  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drderrickthesportsdr/  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TimeOut.SportsDr  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/derrick-burgess-72047b246/  YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHGDu1zT4K_X6PnYELu8weg  Email: thesportsdoctr@gmail.com    This episode of TimeOut with the SportsDr. is produced by Podcast VAs Philippines - the team that helps podcasters effectively launch and manage their podcasts, so we don't have to. "Depression and anxiety are not signs of being weak. They are actually signs of a person being too strong for too long." Depression can be a paralyzing feeling in which a person loses interest in things he once enjoyed. It can impede someone's capacity to work, create relationships, or enjoy the quality of life. Sometimes, it can lead to a worse situation, such as paranoia or death. Unfortunately, depression and anxiety can be experienced even by someone who seems to have a perfect life. For instance, military, first responders, and even athletes can be prone to depression. Research has proven that veterans and first responders are more likely to develop depression due to repeated exposure to traumatic experiences in their jobs. Despite widespread awareness of the issue, only a few people are getting it fixed. We must know how depression can affect a person's well-being and learn to validate the internal feelings that cause the wars inside them.    Kathryn Walker is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) and Revitalist Lifestyle and Wellness CEO. She is a Tennessee native that has always been involved in advanced studies and skills. Kathryn is passionate about helping others with evidence-based science and practices. Her nursing background and training have exposed her to many different types of patients and given her an excellent opportunity to work as an active team member of the client's medical and mental health team. She hopes to help others by bringing top-rated therapies and interventions to patients, allowing them to live a higher quality of life.   In this special episode with Kathryn Walker, we'll learn about the vision that propelled her toward manifesting her passion for helping the underserved community. She will show us that depression is real and that people like veterans, first responders, and even athletes are prone to experience it. In addition, we will learn that being cognizant of its effects will lead us to recognize and respond to someone who may be fighting an internal battle with their past experiences.   "I think athletes are not natural-born leaders, they're trained leaders, and they're trained in their specialty. But when they leave their sports, they think they're going out to nothing. They need to look at sports and all the skills that they acquired in that and transfer that over to their resume because they can have a huge positive significance to any company."-Kathryn Walker   Topics Covered: (00:00:00) Introduction + Episode Snippet (00:00:13) Introducing our special guest, Kathryn Walker (00:00:30) Advertisement: Obtain financial freedom with passive income! (00:31:26) The need for an athlete's self-reflection: What training did you receive that can be a gain in any environment? (00:34:13) You've got to read your environment.  (00:35:04) Connect with Kathryn Walker   Key Takeaways: "The skill sets that we learned during school were horrible. It's a horrible school because it was so hard. But it was skills that made me a powerful provider." -Kathryn Walker   "Why do you need to have as advanced skills as I have right before you die? Why not take the skill set that I have, and we put it up here at the front, and we intervene earlier, and we can break the cycle to where we do give these people 20,30,40 years more of their lifespan?" -Kathryn Walker   "One thing I've learned with mental health and addiction-type qualities is that we keep separating the brain when we should be bringing the brain back in the middle and to look at the brain as a whole."-Kathryn Walker   "I think ketamine is a very safe drug with a wide safety or therapeutic index. I think you have to understand the physiology of how it works in the brain. But then you also have to understand how to support that person as they do evolve because they're so used to living with such significant mental illness."-Kathryn Walker   "We have protocols that people sign off on and ensure they meet all these criteria we want people to meet. We've learned that many providers won't refer because they're uneducated on it. So if they're uneducated, that's hindering care."-Kathryn Walker   "We created the athletic certification so athletes would know how to speak to other athletes. Because I think athletes, first responders, and the military are trained in a very similar capacity. They're taught to speak to people in a straightforward way and bullet point."-Kathryn Walker   "I think athletes are not natural-born leaders, they're trained leaders, and they're trained in their specialty. But when they leave their sports, they think they're going out to nothing. They need to look at sports and all the skills that they acquired in that and transfer that over to their curriculum vitae because they can have a huge positive significance to any company."-Kathryn Walker   "We created it to help athletes and leaders in the athletic sector to understand how to speak to other athletes. And when is it the time to call in greater experts?"-Kathryn Walker    "I remember tearing my bicep, but I didn't want to get out of the game. Because somebody's always waiting to take your position or so you can't give up until you're cracked."-Kathryn Walker   "So if athletes are well trained on how to pick up these key signs of mental health, or when somebody is struggling or depressed, or addicted to something, we can save lives."-Dr. Derrick Burgess   "When people transition out, whether they retire from being a first responder, or if they've been deployed, they return to the states and lose their unit. And when they lose their unit, that's isolation. There are only certain people they can talk about with the exposures that they've had to where you don't want to hurt their mental health."-Kathryn Walker   "There are a lot of people doing awareness and advocacy, but there are not a lot of people that are treating."-Kathryn Walker   "Revitalist helps to create that sense of a unit within the mental health space, within the United States where people feel part of something, even though their other unit has transitioned them out."-Kathryn Walker   "Athletes are used to their environment changing and having to make decisions and have critical thinking skills. So, I think anyone who's been in a team sport needs to see their strength."-Kathryn Walker   "How can we work in a team environment to become a leader and not walk in saying I'm a leader? We have to understand our team before we can lead them. And I think that's probably the best advice I'd give to an athlete if you've got to read your environment."-Kathryn Walker   Connect with Kathryn Walker: Website: https://revitalist.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kathryn-walker-33a868115/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/revitalistcorp YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYJI620qgEclHUJgvGRSTHA Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/revitalistcorp/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RevitalistLifestyleandWellnessLtd   Connect with Dr. Derrick Burgess: Website: https://www.drderrickthesportsdr.com/  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drderrickthesportsdr/  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TimeOut.SportsDr  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/derrick-burgess-72047b246/  YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHGDu1zT4K_X6PnYELu8weg  Email: thesportsdoctr@gmail.com    This episode of TimeOut with the SportsDr. is produced by Podcast VAs Philippines - the team that helps podcasters effectively launch and manage their podcasts, so we don't have to. What does it take to be uncommon? Why can't I be like somebody?  The truth is, we are born uncommonly unique.  In some aspects, we are so distinct from each other that not even a fingerprint looks the same. We are extraordinary by design and we need only to open our eyes and see our worth. We have to realize our full potential and believe that God can see something in us. However, we can be an excellent catalyst for another's success story. On occasion, we are privy to moments when we get an opportunity to prepare a path that somebody else is destined to walk.  One such encounter is when we help others to achieve their victory in life. The epiphany of success is not that you have accomplished your dreams but rather that you are instrumental in helping someone else achieve their victory. Therefore, put your best effort into all you do, strive to be an expert in yourself, set a goal for success, and bring someone up as you climb.    Ben Troupe is a football star, a media brand, a motivational speaker, a man of faith, a father, and a son. Troupe grew up in Swainsboro, Georgia, where his wonderful parents and grandparents nurtured him. He became a passionate advocate and volunteer, standing tall for needy people. Ben believes in expanding perspectives through exposure. He lives his life with a "least among us" mentality, focusing on improvement for all.    In this special episode with Ben Troupe, we'll learn about a man who grew up in a beautiful place and got to live a dream. He will be opening our minds about being a blessing to other people's lives. Letting us know that life isn't about reaching your goals but helping another dreamer get theirs.  That is a humbling revelation.    "Sometimes you're just a means of transportation to get people where they are trying to go. It's the best feeling in the world to know that somebody's thinking of wanting to do something, and they think you can help them do it. That's humbling to me." – Ben Troupe Topics Covered: (00:00:00) Introduction + Episode Snippet (00:00:15) Introducing our special guest, Ben Troupe (00:00:35) Advertisement: Obtain financial freedom with passive income! That is the American dream because it has to be attainable for all of us." – Ben Troupe   "What is extraordinary? Extraordinary to me is what I chase. It was something different. And it's not predicated on what the world says." – Ben Troupe   "It is my job to be my full self, as much as I possibly can, no matter where I am, no matter who I'm talking to." – Ben Troupe "The mistake that I've had and the bumps and the roles that I've had, I wouldn't change it. It makes me who I am. The whole notion, if I can go back, I wouldn't change nothing cause I don't become the person I am now because it's all relative and it's all worth it." – Ben Troupe   "Then I realize that's even though I didn't know; I can't get my perception of something through somebody else's view." – Ben Troupe   "I didn't know what exposure was doing to me. Like I'm going to athletes, I'm seeing all these athletes shaking hands, which blew my mind. Cause I still got a swan mentality like I'm in the city now, but I'm trying not to stand out." – Ben Troupe   "It's to this day I let exposure be my teacher. I don't try to limit anything. I don't try to hold myself back because I wasn't hesitant to get on that plane." – Ben Troupe   "I appreciate it, but I don't care about no praise, no accolades. I just had fun. I did the best I could with the time I had given. I'm not creating any enemies. I didn't have no hatred." – Ben Troupe   "Some people let Money and fame change them, but as you mentioned, it truly just augments who you already are. Your weaknesses still are your weaknesses unless you address them. Your strengths are going to be your strengths. It's up to us to look at ourselves and change ourselves." – Dr. Derrick Burgess   "Money is just a microscope. Whatever you are without it, It will highlight you with it. And money lets you know what you value." – Ben Troupe   "You became somebody worth talking to not because of the sport you play cause that is temporary but because of the type of person you are." – Ben Troupe   "People want somebody who is approachable. People want respectful people. People want people who talk to people, not talk down to them. People want somebody who's understanding. Understanding means to suffer with thee." – Ben Troupe   "I feel like my responsibility now that I'm through the door is to go back down and bring somebody else up because you can knock all day long, but unless somebody invites you into that room many times, you're not gonna ever get into it." – Dr. Derrick Burgess   "Sometimes we go in rooms to tell the person who wants to be in that room. It isn't what you think it is. I'm not telling you not to go in there, but if you need this room to validate, you don't go there. That's supposed to benefit me. I don't suppose to be benefiting from in that room." – Ben Troupe   "Sometimes you're just a means of transportation to get people where they are trying to go. It's the best feeling in the world to know that somebody's thinking of wanting to do something, and they think you can help them do it. That that's humbling to me." – Ben Troupe   "I heard somebody say once that you see two dates when you look at a tombstone. You got a date when you came, and you got a date when you died and that dash in the middle of your life.
