Formula feeding isn't a parenting failure. So why do so many parents still feel that way? In this week's episode, host Anjelika Temple explores the stigma of formula and the ever-evolving conversation around how we feed our babies. First, she talks with Mallory Whitmore, aka The Formula Mom, about becoming the feeding expert she wishes she had as a new mom. Then, Anj talks to Bobbie co-founders, Laura Modi and Sarah Hardy, about how their difficult feeding journeys led them on a mission to support modern parents—one bottle at a time. P.S. There's still a shortage of formula in many areas of the country. Have extra you want to donate? On this week's episode, I'm going to tell you the history and hauntings of the Pittock Mansion in Portland, Oregon. I figured we needed a sweet story for Valentine's Day. I also wanted a break from the darkness of the shanghai tunnels.  I was lucky enough to visit the beautiful Pittock Mansion while we were out there with the Oddities and Curiosities Expo last year. I was not prepared for how gorgeous this place was. It is tucked up on this incredibly tall hill that just weaves through this extra green and dense rainforest. When you get to the top of the hill the house just emerges from these trees quite suddenly. The house itself is a beige gray with red roofs and from the back it looks like a fortress almost. If you go to the front of the house get roses and a view of Mt. Hood and the Portland skyline to die for. Oh and the interior! Well we will talk about that a little bit later.    So lets get into shall we? Grab yourself a cup of tea, maybe something with roses, make sure the doors are locked, and the sage is close by. I have a story to tell you.   Sources https://portlandghosts.com/the-pittock-mansion/ https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/oregon/pittock-mansion-haunted-or/  https://pittockmansion.org/our-story/history/ https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/pittock-mansion  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unhinged_(1982_film) http://hauntedhouses.com/oregon/the-pittock-mansion-museum/ https://www.portland.gov/parks/washington-park-international-rose-test-garden  The Haunting of Sarah Hardy (1989) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqx3WyPVCNE

Mothers and Others: The Evolutionary Origins of Mutual Understanding by Sarah Hardy, 2011 《包法利夫人》[法] 福楼拜 《我的奋斗》[挪威]卡尔·奥韦·克瑙斯高 影视剧 《暗处的女儿》(The Lost Daughter, 2021),改编自费兰特的同名小说,导演玛吉·吉伦哈尔 《疼痛难免》(This Is Going to Hurt, 2022),改编自亚当·凯的同名小说 《虚构安娜》(Inventing Anna, 2022),导演大卫·弗兰科尔 《女人的碎片》(Pieces of a Woman, 2020),导演凯内尔·穆德卢佐 《凯文怎么了》(We Need To Talk About Kevin, 2011),改编自莱昂内尔·施赖弗的同名小说,导演琳恩·拉姆塞 【出品人】蔡欣 【主理人】猫弟 【节目编辑】何润哲 桑瑜 【后期制作】AURA.pote 【视觉设计】孙晓曦 陈景婧

Last week, we took a deep dive into the German elections and everything we predicted came to pass: Angela Merkel could well still be in office this time next year when negotiations are finally concluded – if they ever are. This week, we examine the Russian elections – largely because nobody else has. And here's the reason why: the vast majority of Russian voters prefer either President Vladimir Putin or the Communist Party of Russia. So, the oracle of all things Russian, Bryan MacDonald, our RT colleague based in Moscow, joined Sputnik to shed light on events there. There was profound sadness throughout the land when Sarah Hardy of Girls Aloud died of breast cancer at just 39 years of age. October is breast cancer awareness month, so we are doing everything we can to draw attention to this killer. Early diagnosis is crucial and Rebecca Hartley, a survivor of breast cancer herself, now travels around the country alerting women of its importance and how to look out for the first signs. She joined Sputnik to tell us about her inspirational story and the work she now does.

Today’s episode is for your highest good, and there's something in here for you.Sarah said:“So we can even just remove the labelling of the fear completely and just look at the frequency itself and say, I need to trust that the earth provides for me. I need to trust that I will survive. I need to just get outside, let the frequency of the earth come up into my body and shift my energy. And that starts to shift away from that heavier frequency of these fears so that sometimes we don't even have to go deeper into them.”“And one of those shifts is the overthinking that we start to do right within this need to have these answers a big reason why we struggled to find them is that we're overthinking and we're overthinking from a very human-based place. This special Squarepeg miniseries celebrates the great things that start to happen in our lives when we discover in adulthood that we’re autistic. In a bit of a change from the usual format, in this episode I share some of the things that have changed for the better in my own life since I was diagnosed autistic, including feeling able to give myself permission to live and work the way I want to and need to, without feeling guilty, reframing my past failures and achievements, and finding a group of people I can truly relate to. This special Squarepeg miniseries celebrates the great things that start to happen in our lives when we discover in adulthood that we’re autistic. Seven of my previous guests have returned to each share the three most important things that have changed for the better in their lives since they were diagnosed, or realised they were autistic. My guest today is Sarah Boon, an MA graduate and autism advocate from Surrey in the UK.  I first talked with Sarah about her experiences being autistic at work and university in Series 1, Episode 10. In this bonus recording Sarah talks to me about being kinder to herself, setting good social boundaries, and finding a new purpose in life. I hope you’ll enjoy our conversation as much as I did. Laura Modi on The Formula for Startup Success

We’re continuing with Season 2 of Real Good Company! We’re so excited to welcome today’s guest Laura Modi, the CEO and Co-Founder of Bobbie, an infant formula brand that is taking the formula industry by storm. Although the Ireland native never thought she’d leave her native country permanently, Laura’s proclivity for adventure landed her in Silicon Valley. Laura would go onto work at major companies such as Google and AirBnB before launching her own company with Co-Founder and COO, Sarah Hardy.Dubbed as Allie’s own “Women in Tech Hero,” Laura is known for her easy going, quiet confidence and her ability to take risks. With a little bit of luck, hard work, and being in the right place at the right time, Laura landed a job at Google as the Program Manager in 2008 on the heels of the recession. Her internship experience at Google Ireland gave her a leg up in landing a job in the U.S. After four years at Google, she left her dream job to join a little start up called Air Bed & Breakfast, aka AirBnB. In 2011, She joined as one of their first Operations leaders as the Host Operations & Community. There, Laura met her husband, and shortly after, they had their first daughter. Quickly, Laura learned the struggles of breastfeeding as a new mother and the disconnect between her expectations and reality: It’s time-consuming (about 30 hours a week of pumping). It’s painful, or you’re so stressed that you cannot produce the necessary milk supply to give your child sustenance. Five days after having her daughter, Laura found herself in a pharmacy tired and confused as she purchased formula, a decision that 80 percent of new parents eventually make. After experiencing the shame and stigma that came with feeding her child formula, Laura knew she wanted to make a change. In 2019, she left the tech industry and took her real life experience as a mother and the knowledge of the gap in the formula market to launch her own U.S. infant formula company with her Airbnb coworker and mother of two, Sarah Hardy. Laura’s love of risk taking paid off and today, Bobbie provides thousands of new moms and babies with a high quality European style recipe modeled after breast milk. Bobbie is the first national infant formula to launch in five years, and it is the only infant formula brand to meet European nutritional standards.Today’s podcast focuses on the shame and stigma attached to baby formula, the importance of taking risks in career and in life, and the baby formula “black market.” She shares her story on leaving the tech world, her motivation as a mother to disrupt the formula industry, her journey of pitching to 68 investors, and raising two and a half million dollars of investor capital before her son was born, and how her team faced being recalled by the FDA.You can find out more about Laura and everything mentioned on today’s show here. Also, you can find Laura on Instagram @lauraclairemodi as well as Bobbie at @bobbie. Get to know our hosts on Instagram @CaitlinCrosby and @AllieBridge. You want the "Celebrity Ghost Story" of Patrick Muldoon? Of course we have that. Plus Anne's own ghost story (spoiler alert: Crissy is pretty convinced Anne had an actual burglar in her house instead of a "spirit") And finally, are you looking for a Halloween movie to watch? We'd have to be possessed to suggest the Sela Ward TV movie, "The Haunting of Sarah Hardy", and yet we did. Maybe Anne was right about those spirits.
