Understanding the mind-body connection is the underpinning of intuitive eating, as explained by Victoria Evans, a successful intuitive eating coach. Victoria knows the importance of maintaining a healthy mindset to obtain healthy eating and exercise habits. By fueling your body with optimal nutrition, you give yourself the gift of energy to grow your career and relationships and reach your full potential. Victoria's coaching program is unique because it takes a scientific approach to understanding why we eat. By understanding what motivates our behaviors, we become empowered to change them for the better, allowing our confidence to grow through food freedom. Victoria Evans knows the pains of letting food and weight dictate the choices in our lives. Having fought demons of anorexia, food addiction, and bulimia, Victoria knew there had to be a better way for women to have a healthy relationship with food and love the skin they're in. Victoria set off to study the science behind self-sabotaging behaviors. Having successfully healed her relationship with food and gaining the confidence of a positive mindset, she now wants to share those methods with other women. A self-described digital nomad, who currently calls Portugal her home, Victoria works with women as an intuitive eating coach to educate them on the science of intuitive eating and food freedom. Many times we don't realize that there are disordered eating habits. One way to take note is to pay attention to the comments a person makes about food or body image, whether it's their own or projecting them onto another. Another thing to look for is eating habits. Are they running around with a venti Starbucks iced coffee only to eat all the foods later in the day? Are eating habits very rigid?. These are all indicators of a negative relationship with food that needs to be healed. The concept of intuitive eating is understanding that sometimes we are eating to fill an emotional void and not necessarily fuel our body for health and energy. Understanding the scientific connection between emotions and food is the best way to heal a negative food relationship. Emotions are merely messages from our bodies. Most people were not taught how to read those messages, so we avoid them. This denies us the ability to check in on what's going on with our bodies. For example, loneliness and boredom are two emotions that get misinterpreted, and we eat to satisfy that change of state our mind is seeking. Intuitive eating helps you learn how to process those emotions and thoughts so you don't reach for food to satisfy them. One practice that Victoria has her clients implement is to check in with themselves during the day. Set silent alarms at different times to remind yourself to take a second and quickly audit your emotions. Register the emotions so you can process them and let them go. Another technique Victoria teaches her clients is box breathing. Inhaling, exhaling, and holding a breath for 4 seconds. This quiets the mind, so it can focus on the here and now and deal with the emotions that life is handing you at the moment. These two tools help regulate the nervous system and calm you down. A third technique Victoria encourages her clients to utilize is to label their emotions. This makes a person feel safe. Your brain views the emotion as familiar and proceeds to process and move through it. By employing these three techniques, you can overcome emotionally driven eating and start on the path to intuitive eating and a healthy relationship with food. Implementing these techniques regularly creates habits. That is the last step to the process. Join us today and listen to Victoria Evans, share the importance of understanding why we eat and how to create food freedom and live a confident, happy life. At the time of the episode release (January 2022) Victoria Evans is about to depart in February to become the 8th British woman to solo row the Atlantic Ocean. Setting off from Tenerife, she will row 3000 miles over the course of nearly two months to reach Port St Charles in Barbados. It's a challenge that's been 3 years in the making, with Victoria forced to postpone last minute at the start of 2021 due to COVID restrictions . It's an endeavour she's undertaking to raise awareness about, and money for, UK Charity ‘Women in Sport'. A sports lawyer herself, she didn't start being active until her late twenties when she moved to Switzerland for work. Access to the transformational benefit of sport for all women and girls is a cause that she's passionate about on both a personal and professional level. We talk about her awakening into sport, equality for women in sport, how the culture needs to change, why she decided to do this row and how she got into sport relatively late in life and how much benefit she has gained from it. Finally, we talk about the row and what she hopes to get out of it. Part two will be after her row is completed and we'll get to hear how the dream compared to the reality.I didn't ask her for a #challengecatie but I will when she gets back!IG: @seachangesport www.seachangesport.com

In this episode of Fire in the Belly, Mighty Pete has a vulnerable and intimate conversation with Victoria Evans, a business and life coach who aims to help women feel empowered to achieve their personal or professional goals. Victoria struggled for many years with eating disorders, and it was only after she asked for help that her recovery journey began – and when she began to understand that asking for help is one of the bravest things one can do. KEY TAKEAWAYS Perfection drives disconnection, when being connected with others is one of our basic needs Living in a space of frustration and shame prevents action Victoria wants to help people to understand and fast-track through their pain, so that they feel understood, seen and heard. There is a physiological science to positive self-talk – it provides a small hit of dopamine to your brain BEST MOMENTS Any human can do whatever they want to if they get out of their own way After years of struggling with eating disorders, she called a helpline and told someone else what she was feeling: which helped her realize that asking for help is such a huge moment of strength and courage. She helps her clients unpack their whys behind what they are doing so that they can release their shame and move forward. Her business model is based on what she needed to hear when she was younger. ABOUT THE GUEST Victoria Evans is currently based in Portugal, although her nomadic lifestyle has led her to Bali and all over Asia in the last few years. She is a business and life coach who offers both one-on-one coaching and group courses and is interested in the psychology and science behind why humans do what they do. Episode 35. Today I have the pleasure of talking with Victoria Evans. Victoria Evans began her career in the corporate world with a prominent Fortune 500 company in the beauty industry in Montreal. During this time, her challenges related to eating disorders, mental health, extreme dieting, and overexercising became a catalyst for creating a solution to an issue millions of women deal with today. As a successful Intuitive Eating Coach, she is disrupting the wellness industry through her fundamentally science-based approach. Victoria helps countless women heal their relationship with food by optimizing their mindset for happier and healthier lifestyles. You can find Victoria and connect with her here! IG: @victoriaevansofficial LinkedIn: VJEVANS This Episode was SOOOOO good. Here are the Highlights: If you are like me, you love to understand the science of WHY something works. But also, I'm a practical person. By the time I found Intuitive Eating, I had tried every diet under the sun, and frankly, most of them were quite "healthy" by societal standards. I did Weight Watchers many times, MyFitnessPal, Jenny Craig, and tons of self-directed attempts, usually recording calories or making myself a meal plan. My first Weight Watchers attempt worked fairly well, meaning I lost some weight and kept it off for maybe a year or so. What Victoria does so well in this interview and her work is really breaking down the science of why intuitive eating is so effective. She ties it to a theory by Stephen Porges called Polyvagal Theory that helps us understand our body's threat response and what starts it. This interview helps explain things like: Why binge eating never was and never will be a willpower problemHow your brain is trying to self-protect, because your primitive brain, the part that makes sure you stay alive, truly hasn't evolved for the availability of food that we have todayHow understanding your body and it's physiology can be the difference that truly makes the difference for you in reclaiming your relationship to food and getting your life back The True Meaning of Intuition This episode really made me think about and consider the term intuition and how SO many of us get out of touch with our true intuition and how much of a disservice this is doing for us and the world. Intuition is not a single way of knowing—it's our ability to hold space for uncertainty, and our willingness to trust the many ways we've developed knowledge and insight, including instinct, experience, faith, and reason.- Brene Brown As you listen to this episode, keep an open mind and really consider how your body and physiology work, how you might inadvertently be activating your threat response, and what you might be able to do instead. Are You New Here? Welcome! I'm so glad to have you. You might be wondering what this blog and podcast are all about. We relate everything in this podcast back to motivation, but not the hustle and grind kind. Truly sustainable motivation that keeps you feeling energetic and engaged in your life for the long haul. We talk about why “I'm just not motivated” is a myth and why the TYPE of motivation you have is so important to fully understand. If you are ready to learn about motivation and respecting your body in an effective way so that you can live a life you truly love, you are in the right place. You've done it! You've made the big decision to stop dieting and you're loving how food freedom tastes! Until you see your body size change, feel guilty for eating too much (insert guilty food pleasure here), and feel out of control with food. Maybe these thoughts have popped into your head... "Really? Is this it? Is this what everyone's been talking about by going "anti-diet and intuitive eating?" "I feel more stressed about food and my body than ever and I"m SO confused! I thought this was supposed to be better for my health, but I feel like sh*t!" If this sounds even remotely familiar, you're definitely not alone and you definitely don't want to miss this week's podcast episode with Intuitive Eating coach Victoria Evans. Victoria began her career in the corporate world with a prominent Fortune 500 company in the beauty industry in Montreal. During this time, her challenges related to eating disorders, mental health, extreme dieting, and overexercising became a catalyst for creating a solution to an issue millions of women deal with today. In our conversation, we're diving into... What are the most common destructive eating behaviors women have after years of struggling with food guilt and body shame? How the influence of diet-wellness culture and trauma can impact these behaviors. How we can learn to slow down and eat mindfully even for just a meal or two during a busy week. Plus Victoria describes how she defines radical self-love, how it helped her healing journey, and her top tips to quiet your inner critic. Finally, Victoria leaves us with her top 3 strategies to practice more attuned eating and self-acceptance in midlife and any age. Motivation and Inspiration Interviews with Professor of Perseverances
Victoria Evans said, "I always struggled with my weight.... always used food as my escape, my drug of choice to cope with feeling inadequate, depression, anxiety and later a sexual assault." Throughout university, she gained weight... a lot of weight. Victoria's body was her armor, her shield against the world... but it also made her feel invisible. Following university after several failed diet and exercise plans later, she bought a 12-week weight loss guaranteed program…. She went all into this program and pushed through the starvation level of calorie restriction and intense unhealthy workouts... she lost weight but also nearly lost her life in the process. This week I'm joined by Science Based Intuitive Eating Coach, Victoria Evans and we had a KICK ASS conversation. Even though I've practiced and used Intuitive Eating for 5 years, I found myself learning from Victoria which is such a gift and a testament to just how complex the work of healing your relationship to your body and food can be. In this episode we discuss: How body shame is the ultimate fragmentation from our wholeness Grieving your dieting identity How perfectionist fantasies keep us from taking responsibility for our lives in the present The evolutionary/primal reasons we diet and pursue weight loss Healing generational wounds of conforming for connection Hiding the most valuable aspects of ourselves because we are ashamed of how we look The role certain brain chemicals play in compulsive behaviors around food What's really happening in our brains when we restrict food How shame activates the same part of our brain that is activated when we experience physical pain which will lead to self soothing behaviors Self sabotage as a form of self protection The importance of human connection on our overall health and overindulging in introversion And so much more! It was such a dynamic conversation and I can't wait for you to listen. It was after completing a 12 week weight loss program that Victoria developed an eating disorder. She would starve herself all day, over-exercise, and indeed up so hungry at night that she would go on huge binges… These binges would be met with a mixture of shame, anger, guilt, and anxiety of gaining weight that she would purge it all and punish herself with extreme forms of exercise. Victoria began getting the attention and acceptance that she'd been seeking out her entire life. She was the skinniest she had ever been, but she was also the unhappiest she'd ever been. It wasn't known to her at the time, but Victoria's challenges related to eating disorders, mental health, extreme dieting, and over exercising would become a catalyst for creating a solution to an issue millions of women deal with everyday. Victoria helps countless women heal their relationship with food by optimizing their mindset for happier and healthier lifestyles. In this episode of the Fall In Love with Fitness podcast, Victoria and I discuss how her eating disorder began and the steps she took to overcome it, why social media can be extremely dangerous and misleading when it comes to mental and physical health, and why we should consider not only intuitive eating, but intuitive movement as well.

Squarepeg is a podcast in which neurodivergent women, and trans and nonbinary people, explore navigating a neurotypical world and share their insights, challenges and successes. My guest today is a linguist and liberal politician from London. Victoria Evans received her autism diagnosis shortly after graduating university and now regularly takes part in autism and synaesthesia research studies. She believes that diversity of thought brings both social and economic benefits and wants to work to ensure that more autistic people have the opportunity to progress in work. In our conversation we talk about: ➡ Her experience of being at university as an undiagnosed autistic woman ➡ Some of the research she’s taken part in ➡ Our experiences of synaesthesia (a real moment of connection for me!) ➡ The challenges of employment for autistic people, including workplace culture, the interview process, reasonable adjustments and self employment I hope that these conversations will be inspiring and thought provoking, open you up to new ways of thinking about being neurodivergent, and help you feel more connected to a worldwide community of people with similar experiences. I’m Amy Richards, and after being diagnosed autistic at the age of 37 I’m now on a mission to learn more about different perspectives and issues around being a neurodivergent adult in a world that feels like it doesn’t quite fit.
