In this quick episode, I'm sharing a warning about scammy discovery call bookings that freelancers are increasingly running into now that we rely on booking links. I've heard of calls being booked where the other person turns up just to hard sell to the freelancer, and a recent example from my team involved repeated bookings, a document that wouldn't open, and a prompt asking for an email address, lots of red flags! If something feels off, I recommend Googling the person's email address or name, checking LinkedIn, and looking for reports on places like Reddit or spam-flagging sites (especially for phone numbers). The sender disguises themselves as E-ZPass or a state tollway operator claiming the recipient has an unpaid toll. (6:55) - Twin Flames Universe Jeff Ayan met Megan Plante online in 2012.  The couple had similar interests and were both interested in spirituality.  Megan was studying under a spiritual guide at the time, and that person advised her that her spiritual name should be Shaleia.  Megan has gone by that name ever since. Jeff and Shaleia moved in together and soon began to form ‘Twin Flames Universe'.   A Twin Flame is a term that has been used to describe two people who are equals.  Twin Flames are meant to push the other in their journey of self-discovery. Jeff and Shaleia have allegedly urged their followers to pursue their twin flame matches, regardless of the law.  Some of their followers have been told to ignore restraining orders in order to match with their flame.  Twin Flames Universe followers sometimes pay thousands of dollars for information from Jeff and Shaleia.  One former devotee even had to declare bankruptcy after spending all of her money and up to ten hours per day studying Jeff and Shaleia's teachings.  Vanity Fair journalist Alice Hines described the classes as “a therapeutic-spiritual reality show”. This week on Hashtag History, we will be discussing Mark Weinberger, known as “The Nose Doctor”. To put it bluntly, Weinberger, a doctor who opened up his own practice in Indiana, was performing hundreds of unnecessary - and sometimes, negligent - sinus procedures on patients. In fact, according to a Vanity Fair article, he recommended surgery to 90% of his patients! 90%! That is an overwhelming number! Many of these patients either did not actually need the surgery OR were misdiagnosed with sinus problems when, in fact, they had things like cancer. As medical malpractice and insurance fraud lawsuits began to stack up, Weinberger decided to hop ship and travel to Greece with his third wife to celebrate her thirtieth birthday. While on this vacation, Weinberger disappeared without telling his wife where he was going. She would soon find out that he had left her with more than $6 million in debt. Weinberger would not be found until five years later in the European Alps when his girlfriend spotted him on an episode of America's Most Wanted. Despite pleading guilty to 22 counts of healthcare fraud in 2011, Weinberger is now a free man…and you are not even ready to hear what kind of scammy operation he is running now.
