Friend of the Show Screen Time Kota (https://www.tiktok.com/@screentimekota) returns to discuss the 1985 sci-fi film Enemy Mine. This hidden gem of an ‘80s sci-fi film has everything you want: practical effects, elaborate sets, miniature spaceships, matte paintings, and incredible makeup. Even more impressive is the performance of Louis Gossett Jr. underneath the intricate alien makeup. He and Dennis Quaid (a human) get stranded on a planet together; their species hate each other more than anything else… but somehow, they'll need to learn to get along if they want to survive this. In this episode, we took in a double feature of The Core (2003) and Sunshine (2007), a pair of movies where nuclear weapons are deployed to locations far away from the Earth's surface to save humanity. How could nukes respin the Earth's core or reignite the sun? How does the role of “nukes as heroes” jive with the usual “nukes, aren't those the baddies?” themes? Why does Cillian Murphy keep getting typecast as “tortured inventor of a weapon of mass destruction”: Robert Capa, J. Robert Oppenheimer, and Scarecrow? The Strange Harbors Podcast

This week we're talking about the latest installment of the wildly uneven Predator franchise, Dan Trachtenberg's back-to-basics Prey, which stars Amber Midthunder and Dakota Beavers as 18th Century Comanche hunters squaring off with a deadly alien threat. We discuss the movie's strange release as a streaming-only title and dive deep into Predator history: our favorite entries, the awfulness of 2018's The Predator, and how Prey fares against its predecessors.

Welcome back to The Top Five Podcast!  In this episode, Annie and I are taking on Cult Classic Films. What makes for a cult classic?  According to Live About.com, "The term 'cult film' (and later 'cult classic' as the film ages) is used to describe a movie that has developed a small, but significant and thoroughly dedicated, fanbase that grows over time.  The one criteria that all cult movies have in common is that they are not popular with general audiences or at the box office… at least not initially. After all, the very definition of 'cult' means that these movies have small but devoted followings." You are going to love where Annie and I go with today's show.  And, as usual, please don't forget that Annie and I are merely pop culture enthusiasts with opinions.   Want to challenge our lists or propose a Top Five to us?  Email hello@thetopfivepodcast.com

We just love talking films, and so this week we tried to do a structured chat about science fiction movies - initially aiming to do a top 10, but we both then went on a journey of ever increasing insanity as we tried to establish the seemingly limitless sub genre of  science fiction in cinema. Warning - some language gets a little offensiveSome films mentioned in this podcast - The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy, Arrival, Downsizing, Moon, Interstellar, Mars Attacks, THX-1138, and of course the obligatory Star Wars mention (well, two kids of the 80's cannot talk about science-fiction and not mention Star Wars)  and many, many moreFind us on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/weneedtotalkaboutmoviespodcastor Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/weneedtotalkmoviespodcast/Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/wnmovietalk)

Episode Number 41: SPUTNIK (2020)On this week's episode, we cover what was considered to be one of the very best horror and sci fi films of 2020, SPUTNIK. This Russian film directed by Egor Abramenko and starring Oksana Akinshina and Pyotr Fyodorov, features impressive special effects, a gripping storyline, and a tone that will be right up the alley of fans of classics like Alien. Here's the tagline:“The only survivor did not come back alone.”Have you seen this one?Let us know what you thought about it at chrisandchristalkmovies@gmail.com Welcome to Chris & Chris Talk Movies. Its ridiculous, it's inaccurate, and it's a heck of a lot of fun to pick apart. On today's show, we listen to a few clips from some of our favorite science fiction outer space movies, and focus in on one of the major inaccuracies, then give you three possible reasons why it wouldn't have happened that way.
