Despite the Trump administration's 90-day freeze on foreign aid, the State Department announced it was unfreezing $95 million in military assistance to Lebanon. The move is seen as a vote of confidence from the US in the new political order emerging in Lebanon, and in its efforts to continue to degrade Hezbollah. Steven Howard, the Director of Policy and Outreach at the American Task Force on Lebanon (ATFL), and Sean Mathews, a journalist for the Middle East Eye covering the Middle East, North Africa and the Balkans, join Thanos Davelis to break down why these funds matter for Lebanon, which is looking to rebuild after years of crises, and for the region. You can read the articles we discuss on our podcast here:US green lights $95 million in aid for Lebanon's armyTrump administration approves $95m in aid to Lebanon's militaryUS secretary of state hails Nicosia's strategic roleEU leaders holding emergency meeting in Brussels on defense, UkraineEmergency EU summit seeks to bolster defence to counter US pivot from alliance
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is expected to visit Lebanon in the coming days, an important diplomatic move that underscores Greece's commitment to fostering stability and security in the region. It would also make Mitsotakis the first EU leader - as Kathimerini notes - to visit Lebanon since a ceasefire was reached between Israel and Hezbollah. Steven Howard, the Director of Policy and Outreach at the American Task Force on Lebanon (ATFL), joins Thanos Davelis ahead of this visit to look at the current situation on the ground in Lebanon, what to expect from the new US administration here, and how Greece and Cyprus can be helpful as we consider Lebanon's future. In this episode of Come Rain or Shine, Steven Howard, Creator of Humony Leadership and Caliente Leadership, joins the show to discuss modern trends in corporate leadership. An award-winning author of 22 books on leadership and management, Steven specializes in facilitating tailored leadership development programs for leaders and supervisors around the world. For almost a quarter century, he has mentored and trained thousands of leaders through a unique blend of perspective and experience. During our conversation, Steven contrasts the employee market of today with the employer market of prior decades. While bosses of old preached trust as having to be earned, in a post-pandemic world, the reverse is taking shape. Specifically, organizations looking to stay competitive are not only having to respect responsibilities outside work, but also having to inspire trust upfront and mature their talent pool through remote means. As final charge, Steven encourages today's supervisors and leaders to focus on skill management over people management. While subtle, this shift can have profound impacts on team morale will executed correctly. Lebanon is struggling with severe electricity and water shortages after two of the country's main power plants ran out of fuel. This is only the latest manifestation of a financial and political crisis that shows little sign of ending. Lebanon's government is bankrupt, has defaulted on its international debt, and has failed to take the measures required to clinch international support. Later in our podcast episode we'll also look at the upcoming International Religious Freedom (IRF) Summit taking place in Washington, DC next week. Richard Ghazal and Steven Howard from In Defense of Christians join The Greek Current to discuss the deteriorating situation in Lebanon and look at why the Biden Administration needs to capitalize on this upcoming IRF summit.Richard Ghazal is executive director at In Defense of Christians. Says Bilbo, “It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out one's front door.” That dangerous business leads to adventure and connection. I love that kind of danger. So here's Steven Howard, guru of Caliente Leadership (https://www.calienteleadership.com), whom I met while virtually meandering. It took a while to finally talk, then longer to stop. I had to put the brakes on since the record button wasn't. We've both traveled a good bit, went out on our own in the mid 1990s, and we share devotion to questioning the conventional: “No more work/life balance—it's about work/life harmony.” We prefer seeing leadership in terms of relationships rather than transactions, and we both look for what we can do, not what we can't. Maybe the pandemic opens us to a better reality now that all our rectangles are the same size.
Steven Howard, advocacy director at In Defense of Christians (IDC), speaks with Mark Melton about the 2021 annual report from the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF). In particular, they cover what the IDC thinks USCIRF got right and how they missed the mark. Howard also analyzes the religious freedom situation in Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Egypt. To read the report, click here: https://www.uscirf.gov/sites/default/files/2021-04/2021%20Annual%20Report_0.pdf In Defense of Christians also hosted an event to discuss this report in more detail, which can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4NLiY8pJok For the podcast episode with Nadine Maenza, commissioner on the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, click here: https://providencemag.com/podcast/ep-55-religious-freedom-middle-east-genocide-yazidis/

My Future Business Show Interview With STEVEN HOWARD #TheArtOfGreatLeadership #StevenHoward Hi, and welcome to the show! On today's My Future Business Show I have the pleasure of spending time with award-winning author of 21 leadership, business and motivational books, Mr. Steven Howard talking about the art of great leadership. Having lived in Australia, Singapore and the USA, and now residing in Southern California, Steven is recognized worldwide for his international and multicultural perspectives on management and leadership. During the call, Steven shares the why behind his new online program, and discusses how the large majority of new supervisors and managers fail to make an effective transition from being an excellent individual contributor to a new leadership or management role; which Steven believes is mostly due to the lack of leadership training and education provided to newly promoted managers and leaders. It's not just WHAT you think, but HOW you think, that makes a difference in the outcomes you generate. You make tens of thousands of decisions a day – up to 70,000 according to research. Yet far too many of these decisions are made under emotional duress, stress, anxiety, and pressure. When this happens, the rational control center of your brain is no longer in charge, having been replaced by the emotional control center. Make Better Decisions. You do not have to emotionally react to events, situations, and people. Within this book you will find useful and easy-to-implement tips and techniques for taking control of your emotions and thoughts so that you can respond, instead of reacting, to life's daily challenges. Doing so puts you in a position to make more optimal decisions, both personally and professionally. Today's guest deejay is Corey Parlamento who comes to use by way of my old friend, Steven Howard (check out Steven SOUNDWAVE mix here). I'll be honest, I know absolutely nothing about Corey but when Steven Howard suggested I have Corey on SOUNDWAVE I didn't ask any questions. Steven's taste in music is impeccable and if he recommends a band or a deejay I will not hesitate to take him up on it. Corey is no exception. Corey will talk about his music but I will spoil one thing here. Corey is a deejay at AshevilleFM and the focus of his show is soundtracks. The instrumental soundtracks. The atmospheric soundtracks. The foley work used in soundtracks. This resonates with me because as long as I can remember those are the parts of the soundtracks I love the most. Before I even knew there was such a thing as ambient music I desired to hear music that consisted of those moments of the soundtracks that filled me with wonder or gave me the chills. That's exactly the kind of show Corey produces and the mix you are going to hear on today's show. I know you're going to love it. Join us next week when our guest deejay will be Strictly Kev, aka DJ Food. Livingdog “Burning Weather” Kim Allen Kluge and Kathryn Kluge “Foreboding Sea” Ahmet Kenan Bilgiç “Su Nereye Baksan Yine Su” Mica Levi “Monos”
I had a great time interviewing this guy right here. He had me laughing. We got cut off toward the end. But we will b doing a second interview. I would like to have a call of action. For 1 week every day go to someone and just say I love you. And I am thankful for you. It sounds crazy. But if we are going to get rid of this virus we as Americans and other countries are going to have to do something. In this world, there is no love. NO LOVE. So much hate. If you see an elderly person trying to do something do not just walk by them show them, love. If you see an animal just do not kick it show them, love. ( not just any animal) I mean your pets. spread the love even with the trees and plants show them, love. And you might ask why are we doing this. And the answer to your question is this. WE AS HUMANS ARE UNGRATEFUL. it is time to be grateful. Check out Steven books on Amazon and if you want to know more about Steven check out his profile https://www.calienteleadership.com/steven-howard-profile/ It was a great honor to do this interview and him and I will be doing more. Our guest deejay on today's SOUNDWAVE is Shad Marsh, who hosts 2000 Years on 103.3 AshevilleFM. This is a rare instance where I don't know out guest deejay at all. My good friend, Steven Howard, introduced us when I first launched SOUNDWAVE. Steven's taste in music is impeccable and when he suggested Shad as a guest deejay I said yes without a moment's hesitation. And I was right it trust Steven because Shad's mix is singular. On his radio show Shad explores the genres of experimental, freeform, jazz and psychedelic music and while all of that informs today's show the mix also like a foley's wet dream. Shad's mix feels extremely personal and takes you on an unexpected journey. Steven Howard, the National Outreach Director at In Defense of Christians, discusses the State Department's Report on International Religious Freedom highlighting the many challenges faced by religious minorities in Turkey, the status of Hagia Sophia, and the current challenges Christians and other minorities face in the broader Middle East.
Please join us Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. PST for a live show with host Denise Messenger. Our special guest is Steven Howard. His latest book, Better Decisions Better Thinking Better Outcomes, provides tips and techniques for managing stress, anxiety, and the emotional hijackings that cause us to make less-than-optimal decisions in the workplace and in our personal lives. The book received a Silver Award from the Nonfiction Authors Association for “a book that makes us think and bringing a comprehensive plan of action for improving life through recognizing decision-making patters that do not serve us well, do not enrich our lives, and do not bring us to our goals and dreams. You asked for it and we deliver.
I've expanded the scope of SOUNDWAVE by inviting musicians, deejays, podcasters, etc to contribute mixes to the show. I've been overwhelmed with their generosity and support. Steven Howard is an award-winning author of 20 books on leadership, management, corporate branding, and marketing. He now specializes in creating and delivering leadership development curriculum for front-line leaders, mid-level leaders, and high-potential leaders. For over 25 years he has delivered leadership development programs in the U.S., Asia, Australia, Europe, and Africa to numerous organizations and institutions. He is well-known for his truly international and multicultural perspective, having lived in the USA for 30 years, in Singapore for 21 years and in Australia for 12 years. BOOK Silver Award Winner, Nonfiction Authors Association Book Awards Distinguished Favorite Award, Leadership Category, 2019 Independent Press Awards Stress and our overloaded brains are two of the underlying causes creating conflict, tension, and drama in the workplace. They also result in poor decision making and less-than-optimal thinking by leaders at all levels of the workforce. Daily juggling of data, reports, email, meetings, decisions, and way too much information has leaders operating in "mind full" modes. This is not good. A more effective method is to make decisions in a mindful mode, a skill that can be learned. As a leader, the decisions you make and execute shape the lives of team members, colleagues, direct reports, customers, suppliers, and the communities in which you operate and live. Unfortunately, the majority of leaders are unaware of how stress, multitasking, and overtaxed brains trigger poor decisions, thinking, and outcomes. This book will help readers become more cognizant of when stress is triggering them toward poor decision making. It will also help leaders become more aware of the many benefits that mindfulness practices will bring to their decision-making and thinking capabilities. WHAT I DO I help companies turn good managers into GREAT LEADERS using development workshops and coaching services while bringing the best practices of Fortune 500 leadership training programs into your organization without Fortune 500 costs. WHO I WORK WITH: I help local, regional, national, and international organizations that are in need of leadership development, training, and coaching. I have extensive experience in financial services, petroleum, manufacturing, and high-tech industries. Betcha thought you’d been seeing hats and horns and champagne glasses clinking, right? Nope, we get right down to the food, surprise! It’s not easy to write the opening for a new year. So much has already been said at this point so let’s just barrel through and get this party started…Happy 2020! Did you have a fun-filled and boisterous ball drop or do you prefer the solitude of quietly bringing in the New Year with a champagne toast followed quickly by bedtime? We’ve been there and done that (got the tee-shirt multiple times) whole “let’s have a rip-roaring NYE party” thing. It’s highly overrated but when I was a kid and couldn’t participate, I thought it was the coolest! After years in the food industry, we know it’s just another Amateur Night where the food is mediocre and super expensive, the entertainment is usually similar (I mean, how many times can you listen to IJ Ganem and his band?) and the party is the same party you’ve attended for the past 5 to 10 years. We opt for the quiet version with friends and doing our own “thang”. It’s way safer to stay in and be with the people who really mean the most to you, right? We stop just short of singing Auld Lang Syne (you know how Natalia loves her sound effects and music!) but we do let you in on the exciting lives of podcasters. Of course, we tell you all about it in this episode. I failed to mention on my part that although my boyfriend and I do not partake in this activity, his brother and family put round items in their pockets and jump up and down outside for their midnight festivities. Not quite sure where that good luck comes from…I’ll have to ask. What we do share with you, in addition to our shenanigans, is New Year’s good luck food traditions. Mine are deeply rooted in the South even though Oklahoma is more of a Plains State. We sure behave like we’re there so maybe I should refer to our traditions as more country food, actually, soul food. You must have black-eyed peas, collards, and corn bread on New Year’s Day for good luck. We go into what all that means and how we were first introduced to those foods (special thanks to Steven Howard for helping Natalia out) so no spoilers here, you’ll have to listen. Also included are our take on New Year’s resolutions, yes, we have an opinion or five and healthier eating in the New Year. In general, don’t lose your mind and go overboard. Keep it simple! Betcha thought you'd been seeing hats and horns and champagne glasses clinking, right? Nope, we get right down to the food, surprise! It's not easy to write the opening for a new year. So much has already been said at this point so let's just barrel through and get this party started…Happy 2020! Did you have a fun-filled and boisterous ball drop or do you prefer the solitude of quietly bringing in the New Year with a champagne toast followed quickly by bedtime? We've been there and done that (got the tee-shirt multiple times) whole “let's have a rip-roaring NYE party” thing. It's highly overrated but when I was a kid and couldn't participate, I thought it was the coolest! After years in the food industry, we know it's just another Amateur Night where the food is mediocre and super expensive, the entertainment is usually similar (I mean, how many times can you listen to IJ Ganem and his band?) and the party is the same party you've attended for the past 5 to 10 years. We opt for the quiet version with friends and doing our own “thang”. It's way safer to stay in and be with the people who really mean the most to you, right? We stop just short of singing Auld Lang Syne (you know how Natalia loves her sound effects and music!) but we do let you in on the exciting lives of podcasters. Of course, we tell you all about it in this episode. I failed to mention on my part that although my boyfriend and I do not partake in this activity, his brother and family put round items in their pockets and jump up and down outside for their midnight festivities. Not quite sure where that good luck comes from…I'll have to ask. What we do share with you, in addition to our shenanigans, is New Year's good luck food traditions. Mine are deeply rooted in the South even though Oklahoma is more of a Plains State. We sure behave like we're there so maybe I should refer to our traditions as more country food, actually, soul food. You must have black-eyed peas, collards, and corn bread on New Year's Day for good luck. We go into what all that means and how we were first introduced to those foods (special thanks to Steven Howard for helping Natalia out) so no spoilers here, you'll have to listen. Steven Howard is an award-winning author of 20 books. He is also a certified coach and leadership expert. As someone who has trained over 10,000 leaders internationally, Steven is sure that great leaders are made rather than born. He knows that everyone (provided they are interested in it) can be a good leader, but being a great leader requires skill and training. According to Steven, different times call for different types of leaders. In the 1970s, it was all about assertiveness and strength. Those are great traits for anyone who is commanding military or rescue units. However, that style of leadership can prove to be inflexible in most circumstances. The leaders of the 1990s were all about personality and ego. Competition driven people such as Steve Jobs and Bill Gates seemed to have “larger than life” personality. They inspired people to follow their lead. However, a company can go through a rough patch when “The Infallible Leader” fall. The leaders of now require a different set of skills. According to Steven, they should: ● See each team member as an individual and lead each of them in a different way ● Be willing to be vulnerable and admit their mistakes if need be ● Be humble enough to share credit with their team ● Trust their team ● Have the ability to listen ● Develop teammates into leaders rather than followers Listen to this interview to learn how parenting is similar to leadership. Steven also mentions his 3 favorite leaders - and trust me, you will not be disappointed with his list!
