President Donald Trump extended the ceasefire with Iran on Tuesday, just hours before it was set to expire. Trump said the pause in fighting would be in effect until the regime's "proposal is submitted, and discussions are concluded, one way or the other." He went on to say the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports remains imposed. After Trump's announcement, Iran attacked and seized multiple tankers, according to the country's state-affiliated media. Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), a combat veteran, joined "Forbes Newsroom" to discuss her take on the ceasefire extension and the war against Iran. Learn more about your ad choices. Following the events of 9/11, the United States military medical system faced an unprecedented challenge as casualties with devastating limb loss and complex polytrauma began arriving at Walter Reed. In this episode of WarDocs, Retired Army Colonel Dr. Paul Pasquina takes listeners behind the scenes of this critical era in military medicine. He details the rapid evolution of care from a perceived sprint to a long-term marathon, necessitating the creation of the world-renowned Military Advanced Training Center (MATC). Dr. Pasquina explains that medical leadership recognized that saving a life was only the beginning; the true mission was to restore the service member's ability to live fully. The conversation explores the paradigm shift toward holistic care, where rehabilitation, behavioral health, and surgical interventions occur concurrently, starting on Day 1. Dr. Pasquina emphasizes the vital role of the family in the recovery process, explaining why housing and support services were integrated directly into the treatment plan to create a true team environment. Listeners will hear inspiring stories of resilience, including the evacuation of Senator Tammy Duckworth, and how high-profile visits from celebrities like Justin Timberlake and Ozzy Osbourne impacted morale. Beyond the historical retrospective, the episode delves into the future of rehabilitation technology. Dr. Pasquina discusses his collaboration with DARPA on the "Revolutionizing Prosthetics" program, the potential of brain-machine interfaces, and the balance between high-tech innovation and high-touch human compassion. He concludes with valuable advice for the next generation of military medical professionals, highlighting the unique leadership and research opportunities a military career offers. This episode is a testament to the unyielding spirit of wounded warriors and the dedicated providers who commit to their lifelong care. Chapters (00:00-06:32) Introduction to Dr. Pasquina and the Path to Military Medicine (06:33-15:42) Building the Military Advanced Training Center and Responding to 9/11 (15:43-24:51) Integrating Families and Creating Centers of Excellence for Comprehensive Care (24:52-37:59) Strategic Lessons on Long-Term Rehabilitation and Providing Holistic Restoration (38:00-41:13) Collaborating with DARPA and the Future of Advanced Prosthetics (41:14-44:38) Career Advice for Future Military Medical Professionals and Closing Thoughts Chapter Summaries (00:00-06:32) Introduction to Dr. Pasquina and the Path to Military Medicine Dr. Pasquina discusses his early inspiration to pursue a career in medicine, influenced by his mother's nursing career and his time at West Point. He explains his journey through the Uniformed Services University and how he found his calling in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, with a focus on the neuromuscular and skeletal systems. (06:33-15:42) Building the Military Advanced Training Center and Responding to 9/11 This section covers the immediate response to the influx of casualties after 9/11 and the realization that the military needed to prepare for a "marathon" of care. Dr. Pasquina describes the formation of the Military Advanced Training Center (MATC) and the shift from dispersed care to a multidisciplinary team approach that consolidated resources for amputees. (15:43-24:51) Integrating Families and Creating Centers of Excellence for Comprehensive Care The discussion moves to the logistical and emotional importance of keeping families close during the recovery process, often housing them on-site to be part of the treatment team. Dr. Pasquina also recounts memorable interactions between wounded warriors and visiting celebrities, highlighting how these moments boosted morale and public awareness. (24:52-37:59) Strategic Lessons on Long-Term Rehabilitation and Providing Holistic Restoration Dr. Pasquina outlines the critical lesson that rehabilitation and behavioral health must begin immediately alongside acute medical care, rather than waiting for stabilization. He shares insights on the long-term commitment required to treat chronic conditions like TBI and limb loss, emphasizing that the goal is to restore lives, not just treat injuries. (38:00-41:13) Collaborating with DARPA and the Future of Advanced Prosthetics This chapter explores the intersection of military medicine and cutting-edge engineering, detailing collaborations with DARPA to develop robotic limbs and brain-machine interfaces. Dr. Pasquina explains how patient advocacy helped drive funding for these technologies and discusses the future potential of regenerative medicine. (41:14-44:38) Career Advice for Future Military Medical Professionals and Closing Thoughts In the final section, advice is offered to young medical professionals, encouraging them to see military service as a unique opportunity for leadership, research, and diverse clinical experiences. The episode concludes with final thoughts on the privilege of serving those who have sacrificed for their country. Take Home Messages Concurrent Care Model: A critical evolution in trauma care is the understanding that rehabilitation and behavioral health should not be delayed until medical or surgical stability is achieved. Integrating these therapies on Day 1 of hospitalization significantly reduces complications, shortens hospital stays, and sets the trajectory for a more successful long-term recovery for complex patients. Holistic Treatment Teams: Successful rehabilitation for severe injuries requires a multidisciplinary approach that extends beyond the patient to include their family unit and a wide array of specialists. By incorporating families into the daily care plan and utilizing diverse experts—from prosthetists to psychologists—the medical system can better address the complex physical and emotional needs of the wounded. Lifelong Commitment to Care: Conditions such as traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and limb loss are chronic, life-altering events that require medical attention spanning decades, not just months. The medical system must be structured to support the long-term wellness of service members as they age, ensuring that the promise of care extends well beyond the initial injury phase. Bridging Technology and Humanity: While advancements in high-tech prosthetics and brain-machine interfaces are revolutionary, they must be balanced with "high-touch" human compassion. The most effective care leverages the best engineering from organizations like DARPA while maintaining a deep, personal connection between the provider and the patient to foster resilience and hope. Restoration Over Survival: The ultimate metric of success in military medicine is not merely survival or the healing of a wound, but the full restoration of the individual's life and purpose. Through adaptive sports, community reintegration, and vocational training, the healthcare goal shifts to helping service members return to their units, their families, and society as active, contributing participants. MOFA thanks US senators for marking Taiwan election anniversary The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been thanking a bipartisan group of U-S senators for introducing a resolution commending (讚揚) Taiwan on the 30th anniversary of its first direct presidential election. The resolution was proposed by senators Tammy Duckworth, Tim Kaine and John Curtis. The resolution commemorated Taiwan's first direct presidential election on March 23, 1996, and praised Taiwan for setting an example of self-governance for the Pacific region and beyond. The foreign ministry says it welcomes the international community to continue supporting democratic Taiwan with concrete actions, and that it will continue working with the U-S and democracies worldwide to promote regional peace, stability and prosperity. Asustek warning that PC prices are expected to rise by 25-30% in Q2 And, Asustek Computer is warning that P-C prices here in Taiwan are expected to rise by between 25 and 30-per cent in the second quarter of the year. The technology company is attributing (歸因) the price hikes to a sharp rise in the cost of components, especially memory chips. According to Asus Technology, P-C brands faced higher costs in the first quarter, and prices will continue to rise in the second quarter due to a global supply shortage of dynamic random access memory chips and solid state drive hard disks. Reports says that retail prices for P-Cs sold by leading brands rose by between 10 and 15-per cent in the first quarter. President Trump has deployed hundreds of ICE agents to major U.S. airports to help overwhelmed TSA officers amid long security lines caused by the partial government shutdown. When asked whose idea it was, Trump proudly declared: “Mine." Democrats quickly fired back. Senator Cory Booker (D-N.J.) held a press conference at Newark Liberty International Airport and said: “The message today is: Fund the TSA and get ICE out." Other Democrats echoed the criticism, with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) warning that “untrained ICE agents” at checkpoints put travelers at risk and Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) saying that “masked, armed police at travel checkpoints is a hallmark of dystopian movies" that creates chaos for political leverage. What do you think — smart move to keep airports moving, or reckless political stunt? Drop your thoughts below.

"They're not sending their best." Rachel Maddow reviews how the collection of unqualified culture warriors Donald Trump has put in charge of key facets of the United States national security apparatus is much worse than merely incompetent now that Trump has started a war with Iran and stoked a new level of threat against Americans and American interests. MS NOW's Carol Leonnig reports on new firings at the FBI that included members of an elite counterintelligence squad specializing in neutralizing threats from Iran. The firings came just before Trump started a war with Iran, setting up a whole new threat environment for Americans and American interests. Senator Tammy Duckworth joins Rachel to discuss Donald Trump's incoherent explanation for attacking Iran and the burden America's men and women in uniform are taking on for Trump's whim. Marco Rubio absolutely dominated Senate Democrats during a heated oversight hearing, shutting down weak gotcha attempts from Tim Kaine, Tammy Duckworth, and others. From Cuba regime change to Venezuela, cartels, and the Alien Enemies Act, Rubio calmly exposed the left’s confusion, hypocrisy, and lack of basic facts. This was a masterclass in foreign policy, law, and leadership—and a brutal reality check for Democrats clearly outmatched. BigTentUSA hosted Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and Vet Voice Foundation CEO, Janessa Goldbeck, for a critical virtual conversation on the growing threats to our national security, democratic institutions, and the veteran community. As Trump-aligned forces reshape the federal government—from the State Department and Department of Defense to ICE—veterans are watching their values and service come under attack. The conversation unpacked the political purge at the State Department, the impact of Pete Hegseth's influence at DoD ("Department of War"), and what increased ICE funding signals about our national priorities. ABOUT THE SPEAKERS SENATOR TAMMY DUCKWORTH is an Iraq War Veteran, Purple Heart recipient and former Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs who was among the first handful of Army women to fly combat missions during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Duckworth served in the Reserve Forces for 23 years before retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2014. She was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2016 after representing Illinois's Eighth Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives for two terms. JANESSA GOLDBECK is the CEO of Vet Voice Foundation, a national nonprofit that mobilizes veterans and military families to shape American democracy and defend democratic values. David Waldman delivers us to the end of the week. Anyone not detained this weekend for acts of dispatriotism can meet back here on Monday. Russia seems to use David's random country generator to pick out its disinformation targets. Today it's Austria! SignalGate! It turns out that you can get in a lot of trouble for accidentally adding a reporter to a group email. “You” are not, however, one of the morons on the Houthi PC Small Group chat. Those folks are in a special protected class of super-morons. The more stupidity linked to them, such as public Venmo accounts with payments to eggplants, the more they are called out, such as Senator Tammy Duckworth calling Pete Hegseth “a f*cking liar” who needs to resign in disgrace, the more Donald K. Trump will defend them and lock down Gops from doing anything about it. Hillary Clinton writing an op-ed for the Times has secured Pete Hegseth the job for life. Trump is afraid of confrontation and making any decisions tougher than picking out colors anyhow. Elise Stefanik, on the other hand, isn't that much of a dangerous idiot to become concerned about. Trump figured that she could break just as much stuff if she kept her old job. Trump is cutting the “racial stuff” from the National Museum of African American History and Culture, and “gender” from the American Women's history museum, as well as “improper ideology” from the National Zoo. Thinking incorrectly at a university can earn you a free sightseeing trip in an unmarked van with a canvas bag on your head. Trump's sister declared the immigration law he used “unconstitutional”. While we're talking about Trumps, Vanessa Trump is in a relationship with Tiger Woods! Yep, Vanessa sure has a thing for those “bad boys”… Wait, who is Vanessa Trump?
Tonight on The Last Word: Trump national security officials accidentally leak military plans to a journalist over an unclassified chat app. Also, Democrats hold town halls in GOP districts. Plus, the Trump administration refuses to answer a federal judge's questions about obeying a court order and invokes the state secrets privilege. And Trump special envoy Steve Witkoff says Vladimir Putin is not a “bad guy.” Sen. Tammy Duckworth, Jen Psaki, Rep. Chris Pappas, Rep. Ro Khanna, Joyce Vance, and Timothy Snyder join Jonathan Capehart.
A new lawsuit attempts to stop President Trump and Elon Musk from being able to shut off any federal payments they want, whenever they want, to whomever they want, including you. CNN Anchor and Chief White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins, has the latest developments from the Trump administration and Illinois Democratic congresswoman Tammy Duckworth gives her reaction to the scope and pace of changes the President and DOGE leader Elon Musk are making. Plus, two key deadlines that could potentially lead to thousands at the FBI being forced out over their role in investigating the January 6 riots. Former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe and CNN chief law enforcement and intelligence analyst John Miller give their thoughts. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Tonight on The Last Word: Families mourn the victims of the D.C. plane crash. Also, NBC News reports two black boxes were recovered on the regional jet. Plus, DNI pick Tulsi Gabbard refuses to condemn Edward Snowden. And Democratic senators grill Trump FBI pick Kash Patel. Capt. Sully Sullenberger, Sen. Tammy Duckworth, Sen. Mark Warner, and Andrew Weissmann join Lawrence O'Donnell.
Senator Tammy Duckworth expresses her disappointment with her Republican colleagues for voting for Donald Trump's unqualified defense secretary nominee, Fox News personality Pete Hegseth, with only Senators Murkowski and Collins voting "no" until, somewhat unexpectedly Senator Mitch McConnell also cast a vote against.
Comedian Michaela Watkins joins Hysteria to discuss the impacts of the LA fires one week after they began and how the community has shown up to provide relief. Megyn Kelly begins the show by discussing why Pete Hegseth will be confirmed as Defense Secretary after his excellent performance at the hearing yesterday, the significance of Sen. Joni Ernst already announcing her support for Hegseth, the three most annoying senators at the confirmation hearing: Tammy Duckworth, Mazie Hirono, Elissa Slotkin, their ridiculous questions and interruptions, how the female senators make other women look bad, smug CNN pundit Catherine Rampell dismissing Hegseth as just a TV host, Gretchen Carlson's ridiculous comments pushing a false narrative, and more. Then Victor Davis Hanson, author of "The End of Everything," joins to discuss Pam Bondi crushing the Democrats at her Attorney General confirmation hearing, the hypocrisy from Hirono who refused to meet with her, the mistake by the left of underestimating her, petty and bitter Michelle Obama refusing to attend Trump's inauguration, Kamala Harris not giving the customary VP residence tour to JD Vance and his family, the terrible California leadership, breaking news about a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas to release the hostages, the effect of Trump taking office on the deal, and more.Hanson- https://www.hachettebookgroup.com/titles/victor-davis-hanson/the-end-of-everything/9781541673526/Byrna: Get 10% Off at https://Byrna.com/MegynGrand Canyon University: https://GCU.eduFirecracker Farm: Get 10% off with code MK at https://Firecracker.Farm/Birch Gold: Text MK to 989898 and get your free info kit on goldFollow The Megyn Kelly Show on all social platforms:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/MegynKellyTwitter: http://Twitter.com/MegynKellyShowInstagram: http://Instagram.com/MegynKellyShowFacebook: http://Facebook.com/MegynKellyShow Find out more information at: https://www.devilmaycaremedia.com/megynkellyshow
Pete Hegseth, President-elect Donald Trump's pick to run the Pentagon, faced tough questions — at least from Senate Democrats — during his confirmation hearing Tuesday. The veteran and former Fox News host is facing allegations of excessive drinking, sexual misconduct, and financial mismanagement. But none of that seems to be disqualifying for Republicans, because Hegseth appears headed toward confirmation. Veteran and Illinois Democratic Sen. Tammy Duckworth joins us to share her thoughts on Tuesday's hearing. Later in the show, Atlantic staff writer Rogé Karma breaks down the intra-MAGA war over H-1B visas. And in headlines: Congress passes legislation banning trans athletes from female school sports teams, the Justice Department released part one of former Special Counsel Jack Smith's report on his investigations into Trump, and TikTok users are migrating to the Chinese social media app RedNote.Show Notes:Check out Rogé's work – theatlantic.com/author/roge-karma/Support victims of the fire – votesaveamerica.com/reliefSubscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/3kk4nyz8What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday
