Incest runs in the family – and Eddie Lee Sexton's depravity knew no bounds. From his own teenage daughters right down to the children he had fathered with his own kin – nobody was safe from him, or the sons he'd raised in his image. With the authorities breathing down his neck, Sexton fled with his miserable menagerie in tow. By the time the law caught up to them, at least two people had been murdered in cold blood. Terrifyingly, Eddie Lee Sexton's grip over his family was so strong that a conviction was far from certain. This is the story of how the fate of one of America's vilest men hung on the testimony of a humble librarian.Exclusive bonus content:Wondery - Ad-free & ShortHandPatreon - Ad-free & Bonus EpisodesFollow us on social media:YouTubeTikTokInstagramXVisit our website:WebsiteSources available on redhandedpodcast.comSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
How comfortable are you with discussing the loss of life? If you're anything like me, your answer is probably, “Terrifyingly uncomfortable!” But here's the thing: death is inevitable. In our profession, the longer we practice, the more likely we are to experience loss within our community. We'll have to navigate conversations around it, so it's essential to become more comfortable in order to provide the best support and care for our patients. That's why, in this week's episode, I'm bringing back two former guests, Dr. Jen Santos and Dr. Tamara MacIntyre, to dive into this important topic. Dr. Jen and Dr. Tamara have launched a new course designed to help us meet these difficult yet unavoidable situations with compassion and confidence. In our conversation, we discuss how they became involved in this area, why it's crucial for medical practitioners—especially chiropractors—to become more skilled and comfortable in these scenarios, specific ways to offer support or speak with someone who is grieving, the importance of upstream education on the topic, and so much more. Dr. Jen and Dr. Tamara's new course, Reframing Loss, seeks to help you and your team develop crucial skills to support families through challenging diagnoses and losses with empathy and understanding. Enhance your practice with strategies for grief support, death literacy, self-care, and effective communication. Check it out here. Brad draws on the work of Hannah Arendt to explain how fascism relies on ordinary people operating within a cruel system. He uses two clips - one from Fox News and the other from a right-wing show - to reveal how fascist thought has creeped into our political stream, cultivating ordinary people into a totalitarian mindset. In this episode of The A to Z English Podcast, Jack reads three terrifyingly true stories and briefly discusses them. Send us your comments at atozenglishpodcast@gmail.com.The Mothman Sightings:In the 1960s, residents of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, reported a series of terrifying encounters with a winged creature known as the Mothman. Witnesses described it as a humanoid figure with large wings and glowing red eyes. The sightings culminated in the tragic collapse of the Silver Bridge in 1967, resulting in the deaths of 46 people. Some believed the Mothman sightings were an omen or warning of the impending disaster. To this day, the legend of the Mothman persists, and the creature's true nature and purpose remain a mystery. The Disappearance of Flight MH370:On March 8, 2014, Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 vanished while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. The aircraft, carrying 239 passengers and crew, seemingly disappeared without a trace. Despite extensive search efforts, debris from the plane was not found for more than a year when several pieces washed ashore in the Indian Ocean. The disappearance of MH370 has led to numerous theories and speculations, including hijacking, pilot suicide, or technical malfunctions. The mystery surrounding the flight's disappearance and the fate of those on board has left families and investigators haunted by unanswered questions. The Villisca Axe Murders:In June 1912, in the small town of Villisca, Iowa, eight people, including six children, were brutally murdered in their home. The victims, the Moore family, and two young girls who were staying overnight, were all killed with an axe while they slept. The killer had bludgeoned them so severely that their faces were unrecognizable. The doors to the house were locked from the inside, and there were signs that the murderer had lingered in the house after the killings, eating food from the kitchen.Despite intensive investigations and trials, the case remained unsolved, and the killer was never identified or apprehended. The Villisca Axe Murders became one of the most famous and enduring unsolved mysteries in American history, haunting both the town and the true crime community for over a century. The house where the murders occurred is now a museum and is believed by some to be haunted due to the gruesome events that took place there.Podcast Website:https://atozenglishpodcast.com/a-to-z-quick-tok-36-3-terrifyingly-true-stories/Social Media:Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/671098974684413/-------------------------Tik Tok:@atozenglish1------------------------Instagram:@atozenglish22------------------------Twitter:@atozenglish22------------------------A to Z Facebook Page:https://www.facebook.com/theatozenglishpodcastCheck out the Free Online English Lessons YouTube channel:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCds7JR-5dbarBfas4Ve4h8ADonate to the show: https://app.redcircle.com/shows/9472af5c-8580-45e1-b0dd-ff211db08a90/donationsRobin and Jack started a new You Tube channel called English Word Master. I don't think it is terrifying! In fact, I believe more balloon creatures should have breasts! Actually please don't quote me on that… This week on the podcast, Theo and Will talk about the “Barbenheimer” trend, if they would have weird digestion patterns for a million dollars, Hooters opening 6 units in Florida and Las Vegas, people getting upset at a busty seagull statue in Massachusetts and a multi-breasted whale hot air balloon in Australia, Theo takes us down to the “Taxidermy Shoppe” where he shows off eBay listings for a mouse in a teacup, a shitty Shakespearean mouse, and a baby doll with a possum's head, and Will brings us some “Amazon Erotica” and describes the first two books of the “Ghostly Guardian” series by Louisa Masters. Mike Silagadze is the founder and CEO of ether.fi, which is a new player in ethereum staking space, which allows stakers to control their keys while delegating their stake. A reminder that Ethereum now runs on Proof of Stake, which requires users to deposit, or stake, their ETH. Ethereum's Shapella upgrade introduced the ability for early stakers to withdraw their ETH, which made Ethereum staking and the projects around it one of the hottest themes of crypto this year. Tokens that function as a receipt of staked ETH, called Liquid Staking Tokens, grew in popularity, as did concerns about centralization. We will begin our conversation with an introduction to ether.fi, followed by their differentiation in the already competitive liquid staking sphere. Terrifyingly, an estimated 1.7 million people are stalked each year in the United States. In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss three cases where stalking has ended in murder. - In March 2023, Podcast host Zohreh Sadeghi and her husband were murdered by a man who had become obsessed with her. This man even organized for a jazz band to play outside Zohreh's home at one point. - In 1989, actress Rebecca Schaeffer replied to a fan mail letter that she received. That fan mistook her kindness for more and he traveled to LA. He tracked Rebecca down and shot her as she opened her front door to him. - In 2016, Christina Grimmie was one of America's rising stars. Her public presence was skyrocketing and the world was her oyster. Kevin Loibl waited after her show to meet Christina, and as she offered him a hug, he shot her dead. Naturally, tech layoffs are top-of-mind for many of us. Despite comparisons to the dot-com bubble, what we're seeing right now is different. Here's what the tech and media layoffs really tell us about the economy. In praise of analog technology: why Millennials and Gen Z are springing for paper maps.Make Time, a way of “rethinking the defaults of constant busyness and distraction so you can focus on what matters every day,” was developed in response to always-on Silicon Valley culture.Wifi routers can now be used to detect the physical positions of humans and map their bodies in 3D. Terrifyingly dystopian or interestingly practical? Why not both?In recent accessibility news, a brain-computer interface (BCI) that converts speech-related neural activity into text allows a person with paralysis due to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) to communicate at 62 words per minute, nearly 3.5 times faster than before. From the abstract: “These results show a feasible path forward for using intracortical speech BCIs to restore rapid communication to people with paralysis who can no longer speak.” Shoutout to Lifeboat badge winner Holger for their answer to Sort an array containing numbers using a 'for' loop.
In 2018, author Stephen Markley won near-universal critical praise with his debut novel Ohio, a tight set piece that takes place over the course of a single night, as four high school classmates reunite at a diner in their northeastern Ohio hometown. “Four characters, one night” is pretty much the opposite of Markley's sprawling new novel The Deluge, which tracks dozens of characters over the course of decades, from the 2010s out past 2040, everyone from climate activists to scientists to political operatives, as they suffer the effects of climate change (there are some quasi-biblical disasters) and struggle to marshal the political will to address it.The novel crucially involves climate policy, reactionary backlashes, and direct activism, among other topics of great interest to the Volts audience. On Thursday January 12th at Seattle's Third Place Books, I was lucky enough to talk to Markley about the genesis of the novel, some of its major themes, and the difficulties he faced in writing it.The crew at Third Place was kind enough to record the event (thanks Spencer!), so I'm happy to bring it to you as an episode of Volts. Please enjoy, and while you're at it, do the smart thing and buy copies of The Deluge for all the readers in your life. Get full access to Volts at www.volts.wtf/subscribe

Just before we dive back into a new series of food after the summer break, we're back at WOMAD's World of Words tent where Gilly chatted to Wellcome prize winning neurologist , Suzanne o'Sullivan about her astonishing book The Sleeping Beauties. It's her investigation of mystery illnesses, a wave of ‘mass hysteria' in communities across the world. Terrifyingly, it's affecting a growing number of people, usually children or adolescents and mostly girls who've lost hope for all sorts of sociopolitical reasons. From Cuba to Kazakhstan, Guyana to the most famous Swedish asylum seeking girls who have been asleep for years, o'Sullivan explores how powerfully the body can communicate distress when no-one listens. This is a trip deep into the human psyche via misogyny, cultural imperialism and more than a little voodoo. And not a single mention of food in the hour of chat! We're back with another re-record! In this episode, Harini illuminates (see what we did there?) the once deadly fad of Radium-226. This enchanting, glowing isotope became a worldwide obsession and was literally the most fashionable commodity in the 1920s. It was used in food, makeup, clothes, decor, medicine, you name it! Even having a paid occupation in Radium-226 manufacturing was extremely coveted (eg. Radium Girls). Tune in to find out how this naive obsession bred painful, and sometimes deadly, results. “THE TULLY NEST AFFAIR” and More Terrifyingly Disturbing Tales From History! #WeirdDarknessIN THIS EPISODE: When you think of the most deadly, man-killing animals in existence, you might think of the big cats, or alligators, or sharks… but don't be too quick to dismiss birds as dealers of death. (Death-Dealing Fowl) *** It's one of the world's most haunted places… it is a ship that you can now book a room in as a hotel. We'll look at the very haunted Queen Mary. (The Haunted Queen Mary) *** The result of an accidental pregnancy finds out later in life he might be the son of a demon. (Son of the Demon) *** Most every item I bring to you here in Weird Darkness is going to have taken place in history – and most all of them you hear are going to be unnerving, or even horrifying… but there are some particularly macabre moments in history that stand out among the others. Most of which you've probably never heard of. (Macabre Moments in History) *** Something strange happened in 1966 Australia. Lights in the skies, sightings of saucer shaped objects, and the start of what eventually came to be known as crop circles. It's a mystery that still lingers today, and it appears to be a kind of catalyst for so many similar oddities to follow. Quiet, Please! was a radio fantasy and horror program created by Wyllis Cooper, also known for creating Lights Out. Ernest Chappell was the show's announcer and lead actor. Quiet, Please debuted June 8, 1947 on the Mutual Broadcasting System, and its last episode was broadcast June 25, 1949, on the ABC. A total of 106 shows were broadcast, with only a very few of them repeats. Earning relatively little notice during its initial run, Quiet, Please has since been praised as one of the finest efforts of the golden age of American radio drama. Professor Richard J. Hand of the University of Glamorgan, in a detailed critical analysis of the series, argued that Cooper and Chappell "created works of astonishing originality"; he further describes the program as an "extraordinary body of work" which established Cooper "as one of the greatest auteurs of horror radio." Similarly, radio historian Ron Lackmann declares that the episodes "were exceptionally well written and outstandingly acted", while John Dunning describes the show as "a potent series bristling with rich imagination." Background. Quiet, Please had its roots in The Campbell Playhouse (1938–1940), the successor to Orson Welles's The Mercury Theatre on the Air, which achieved notoriety with its 1938 adaptation of H. G. Wells's novel The War of the Worlds. Cooper was a writer for The Campbell Playhouse, and Chappell was the announcer. They became friends, and though Chappell had little (if any) acting experience, Cooper imagined him as the star of a new radio program. Cooper's earlier Lights Out was famous for its gruesome stories and sound effects, but for Quiet, Please, Cooper would cultivate a subdued, slower-paced, and much quieter atmosphere that could still, at its best, match Lights Out for frights and thrills. Chappell had ample experience in radio, but mostly as an announcer. As Hand writes, "With Quiet, Please, Cooper gave Ernest Chappell the chance to act, and the result was a revelation. Chappell proved himself to be versatile in accent and delivery." The differences could be broad or subtle, but in nearly every episode, Chappell created a distinctive character, rarely using the same traits in multiple episodes. Writer Harlan Ellison, a longtime Quiet, Please fan, writes that the programs were "backed by sound effects and music…but it was essentially Chappell, just speaking softly. Quietly. Terrifyingly." Ellison also describes Chappell as having "one of the great radio voices. A sound that combined urbanity with storytelling wisdom."

THE THESIS: KING-5 Nooze is playing defense for the child destroyers in Big Pharma. The NBC Affiliate in Seattle recently discovered the so called gender clinic at Children's Hospital. Yes, after me talking about if for over five years, after taking them the story of 15 families who kids were being gender jacked, of autistic 6 years olds getting gender jacked at school, of families whose kids were told to get wrong sex hormones after ONE MEETING, KING-5 suddenly discovered Children's so called gender clinc. WHY? Because Sunday was DeTransition Awareness Day, which drew attention to the tens of thousands of mostly young women who regret getting their bodies chemically and surgically mutilated. The fact that KING-5 Nooze is running what is OBVIOUSLY a Press Release for Children's Chop Chop as news, proves to me they have teenage girls. THE SCRIPTURE & SCRIPTURAL RESOURCES: Genesis 1:27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Matthew 18:5-7 6 “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. 7 Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, but woe to the person through whom they come! THE NEWS & COMMENT: Do you think a healthy society would force people to agree with this desperately sad, seemingly mentally ill human being that the source of their ruin is being “born in the ‘wrong body?'” Teacher has breakdown over being “mis-'gendered.' These are the people teaching your kids. Here's the trash KING-5 “Nooze” treats as journalism. Some of the issues: On DETRANSITION DAY, KING-5 couldn't find ANYONE who disagrees with shooting kids up with wrong sex hormones? These kids were followed for a YEAR? Gee . . . do people's opinions change when they grow-up? When they want kids but can't have them? When they get cancer at young ages? When they get brittle bone disease in their early thirties? When their hair falls out at the temples in their late twenties? KING-5 didn't care, they ran this trash as news, This “study” is garbage, Children's “Hospital” are horrendous profiteers on misery and KING-5 News are utter whores for publishing this. . . . It's not like it's hard to find people who will tell the truth--or, if you like, the other side of the story--about the gender industry. Here's a quick link. Learn about the gender industry, here . . . here's a master source of data on the insane har these people perform. Detailed analysis of the gender industry and the harms of wrong sex hormones It's not just old, white men--it's all about race, remember?--here is a young woman who will take you on a tour of what these ghouls do to kids. A YouTuber gets away with covering this abuse (this might appeal to younger audiences) - Sydney Watson ALL IS NOT LOST! My friend's child wrote this to an SJW "teacher." I read a book one time, named "Red Scarf Girl". It was for this library bingo activity we were doing at my elementary school, and I wasn't really that excited about it because historical fiction isn't really interesting to me. But, I had a book bingo board to fill out, so I got to work. Surprisingly, I really liked that book. It told the story of a young Chinese girl experiencing the horrors of Mao's great leap forward. It was a truly terrifying story, it was unbelievable to me that this could happen in real life. Of every event detailed in that book, the "Struggle Session" was the most unnerving. The Communists would seize someone, bring them into a room of their peers, and grill them on account they were suspected of being Bourgeois (A capitalist pig). The accused would be interrogated, psychologically tortured, pressured to confess, and “encouraged" to turn back from their "evil ways". An act of contrition, if you will. I enclosed "Evil ways” in scare quotes here because not everyone they interrogated and tortured was, in fact, a capitalist. Terrifyingly, the bar to get thrown into one of these was as low as a simple accusation. In fact, it was very much like the Salem Witch Trials, as we learned in your class. I'm sharing this with you to point out some current parallels. No one, not one person in this classroom, is racist. No one here hates blacks, Mexicans, Jews, Asians, whites you name it. No one here endorses or even has a neutral opinion of slavery, no one here is OK with segregation. So why are we doing this assignment? I suspect it's because you consider yourself an activist teacher and it makes you feel good to be, and teach kids, to be so-called "Anti-racist". Promoting this type of political propaganda means you are one of the "good guys” but in truth, this is exactly what the "good Christians” did in the witch trials, and it is the tactic of the Proletariats under Mao. This activity is a thinly veiled Struggle Session, it's based in fantasy and Boogey Men that simply don't exist in this country any more. Well, it didn't, but you seem to want it to. Red Scarf Girl is a lovely, powerful book, but it scares me that people like you, in charge of shaping young minds, are leading us along the exact same paths that those in the book did. This is a path that leads only to destruction and if you really want to “end racism,” I would suggest you simply stop talking about race all the time. For data visualization, please use the links below or follow us on Twitter @DegenerateBiz-----------------------------------------------------The fog of war hangs over everything, including the parochial interests of financial markets. What will the crisis in Ukraine lead to in the end? Or even myopically...this year. Terrifyingly, no one can say. But here's what seems likely in the prosaic language of markets:A surge in the price of commodities precipitated by the conflict (see wheat, oil)An already febrile state of inflation made more explosive by commodity supply shocksA flight to conventional financial safety (US treasuries, the US dollar)A tenuous hand of support for the S&P 500 in the form of the Federal Reserve balance sheetA Great Muddling in CryptoWhich is to say...much hangs in the balance. And in times like these, what's a person to do? For now we observe for lack of a better idea.
Terrifyingly, we are on the cusp of a mammoth intergenerational wealth transfer, with Boomers expected to leave behind $224 billion each year in inheritances by 2050 - THAT'S SO MUCH MONEY. So we need to start talking now about what this means and how it works, because whether you've inherited $500, or $5 million - showing that money the respect it deserves is really important. So join us, as we discuss a number of hypotheticals, and also talk about a number of real-life inheritance stories.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

38: Chapter 38. The Thunder Breaks Scripted by John Ruths and Newell Fisher This is one of the most military chapters in character in WD. The pre-chapter quote is spoken by Cassius in Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare. The chapter opens along the riverbank of the Test. Hazel is nervous. Kehaar is letting him know what we just heard in Chapter 37, namely the part about tonight being the night. The weather is continuing to build. We now cut to Efrafa. Hyzenthlay says that Nelthilta has been arrested. Bigwig keeps his cool, telling Hyzenthlay to gather all the escaping does to his burrow and to stay quiet. He soon encounters Captain Chervil. Bigwig's orders are to keep the mark underground. The paranoia of Efrafa is actually working in his favour and he's in a unique position! Chervil's off to see the dreaded Council. Anything Bigwig decides to do will seem legitimate. Bigwig engages with Marjoram. At this point Bigwig commits to the escape happening there and then, as he issues orders that go directly against what he was ordered to do. He says that silflay is early, rather than cancelled. He immediately goes to link up with Hyzelthlay, who has wasted no time in gathering the does. He issues instructions to the hrair does to get moving and then does so himself. Bigwig then closes on Blackavar, slips in between him and the unsuspecting Bartsia, and then viciously attacks Bartsia. Bigwig takes his ragtag group and heads above ground. He feels that the weather is his and that it will aid him and go against Efrafa. As he races away and leads the others, he can feel the first alert stampings but he sees no adversaries just yet. We are now back in Efrafa at the interrogation of Nelthilta. Avens crashes in and tells everyone the news about Bigwig. The chase is on as Avens leads the group out. We're now back with the escapees and doubt is growing in Bigwig. One of the worst things possible happens with the appearance of Campion and a small patrol. Soon after this Woundwort arrives along with others. Blackavar speaks up in a conciliatory way and addresses Bigwig as sir. Bigwig acknowledges Blackavar and simply waits for Woundwort's arrival. No more running for Bigwig and, psychologically, this seems like a smart move. Bigwig and Woundwort exchange words. We get some of Bigwig's best dialogue here and Woundwort calls him a "dirty little beast." Bigwig says one of the very best lines of the book: " “Frith sees you! You're not fit to be called a rabbit! May Frith blast you and your foul Owsla full of bullies!” Seemingly, the storm reacts with a great "dazzling claw" of lightning. It is then that Bigwig hears a voice. "Your storm, Thlayli-rah. Use it." Things move quickly again. Kehaar attacks the Efrafans, seemingly out of nowhere. Soon we see more of our heroes. Silver smartly has rabbits set up that will operate much like military checkpoints. Slowly the WD rabbits get the does moving while the Efrafans are readying themselves for an attack. Terrifyingly, it becomes obvious that Woundwort has improvised a plan to continue the pursuit under cover. Bigwig is needed closer to the boat. The does are asking for him, as you might expect. He is the only leader from WD anyone in Efrafa has known. Hazel has the rope bitten, probably more than in half. In the end, the appearance of Woundwort gets all the does into the boat more quickly than anything else could have! And now Dandelion is separated from his comrades on the riverbank. As Woundwort is about to signal his attack, Bigwig cries "There it is!" referring to Kehaar. This works, Dandelion dashes out with Dandelion speed, gets on the boat, the rope breaks, and this amphibious operation is underway! Our heroes, now with a host of does, get away. Bigwig sees the face of a defeated Woundwort as the little punt floats away and so closes Part III of WD. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/watershipdown/message
