Save using this link www.schoolofpodcasting.com/listener YOUR PODCAST DESCRIPTION While every show is different, and thus, every description is different there are some items you may want to include: Get Them Saying Yes By stating an obvious truth, you show that you "Get" your audience and get them saying, "yes." Frequency, Format, and Facts This can be your schedule (Frequency). Your format (solo, interview, panel, narrative). Facts: Accomplishments of the host to establish street cred and answer, "Why should we listen to you?" Who is This For? By specifically identifying who the show is for, you better attract your target audience. Why Should They Listen? What value and/or what benefit is the listener going to walk away with? Call to Action Your call to action in your description (as this will be seen in all the apps) should be to play or, even better, follow/subscribe. Regarding asking them to go to your website or other calls to action, do those in episodes AFTER they start listening. YOU DON'T BENEFIT UNTIL YOUR AUDIENCE BENEFITS. Other Options Some people like to start of with a question. THE FORMAT OF MY DESCRIPTION IS OFF This is another reason to keep your description short. The more paragraphs you want and bold, italics, etc it is going to look weird. In most apps, the description is simple text. If you do include links, they won't work. All you can do it enter things the right way and hope for the best. Where I Will Be? I look forward to seeing you all, please come up and say hi. Getting interviewed on podcasts is just as impactful, if not more, as guest blogging was in 2015. You can drive tangible business impact through strategic outreach. This For this episode, we had Mark Colgan on the show, to talk about how to choose the right podcasts to speak on, how to reach out to their hosts, and the impact it can have on your business if you do this well. Mindsets: It's not just podcasts - think about how you can get your brand in front of the people you can help. Use your gut - if it feels like the right thing to do, then do it, even if you can't 100% attribute the success Focus on building relationships, rather than pitching. Podcasting is an evergreen play, and compounds over time. Skillsets: Research Who else is talking to my audience? Who else is selling the same or similar product? Who is selling a service or product adjacent to yours? Who is speaking at industry events? Where are your competitors speaking? Copywriting Deep personalization is the key, just like in sales outreach. Keep it short Be different Admin and follow-up. No different than tracking sales pipeline activity, you should be tracking your podcast outreach and follow-up activity. The rigor that Mark describes for doing the research, crafting the message and building a repeatable process is an absolute master class in how to do this, and we will definitely be implementing some of these lessons as we try to speak on more podcasts. Andy is one of the most talented musicians I know. Some people think of musical talent as a preternatural gift for shredding through neoclassical riffs on guitar or ripping through Chopin concertos as a pre-teen. In Andy’s case, this talent manifests itself as incredible taste and intuition for songwriting and audio production. When you hear a song written by Andy — whether it’s the, uh, powerviolence of Weekend Nachos or the alt rock throwback of Sourmouth — you know it’s an Andy song. Fortunately, Andy gets to share his gift with others not just with his own music but through his work as a producer and audio engineer at Bricktop Recording. I didn’t expect to make ill-founded quantum mechanics analogies with Andy in this conversation about songwriting, but that’s what happened. Sleep Apnea Test at Home (2/2) The kit measures moderate sleep apnea using a system called the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI). The AHI measures the number of breathing pauses experienced per hour while you sleep: • Mild sleep apnea is between 5 and 15 • Moderate sleep apnea is between 15 and 30 • Severe sleep apnea records an AHI of over 30 hourly episodes The sleep apnea home test features sensors in the pulse oximeter that you wear on your finger, measuring your oxygen levels. The other sensors are in the portable sleep data monitor that you wear around your chest to measure how you breathe. The nasal cannula is a CPAP mask with tubes that you insert in your nostrils and fix around your ears. Think of it like an oxygen mask which also analyses your breathing patterns. Who is This For? • If you or your partner have any of the following symptoms: • Interrupted sleep • Grogginess, headache or dry mouth on waking • If you or your partner are overweight or obese How to Use This Kit To use the sleep apnea test at home: • Follow your night-time routine and get yourself ready for bed. • Then fit the adjustable strap around your chest so that it's secure and won't move during the night. • Fix the portable data monitor onto the chest strap, so that the connection to the nasal cannula is facing upwards towards your face. • Then plug in the nasal cannula into the top of the data monitor. • Carefully put the nasal cannula loops behind your ears and the cannula opening into your nose. • Put the heart rate sensor on your finger tip and tape the wire to the back of your hand. The data monitor unit will record for a few minutes and then turn off. The recording starts when you plug in the chest strap, and finishes when you unplug it the following morning. Need to visit the restroom during the night? Just leave the chest strap plugged in and unplug the other sensors if needed. Remember to plug them back in on your return. How to Get the Most Accurate Reading For the most accurate home sleep apnea test reading, it's best to have time sleeping on your back. Sleep apnea is worse when you're on your back, but lessens once you turn onto your side. What Happens Next? Your results will be reviewed by a sleep technologist who will keep your doctor updated.
