Back in Episode 52, I shared some of my favorite tech tools I use nearly every day. Then last week we talked about the importance of systems when it comes to your grant strategy and how much that can impact your success. Today I want to share some other systems you need to consider. And not to worry if you don't have these yet! If you're a nonprofit, set up an advisory session and we can help you shore up some of these areas so you can end the year strong and kick off 2022 with your house in order. In the Fast Track to Grant Writer, we get into a LOT of this and I set you up with my templates and tracking. Can you offload some of your work to a system? Can we talk for a minute about the illusion of balance? Especially in 2021, it feels like we are busier than ever. We have multiple interests and responsibilities to juggle, and no amount of color-coded calendars will give us the elusive “balance” we really want. The truth is, we don't know what balance is, we just know we don't have it. If you're ready to get clear on what balance can look like in your life, listen in! This week on the Epic Success Podcast, I talk with a dear friend of mine, Christy Wright. She's a number one best-selling author and founder of The Business Boutique. We're talking all about taking your time back, with her new book, Take Back Your Time - A Guilt Free Guide to Life Balance, that is in pre-order right now. Christy has a gift for showing you exactly how to look at all areas of your life, ditch the idea of balance and really take your time back with practical advice. The biggest take-aways from today's episode are: “What if balance isn't something you do? What if balance is something you create in your life?” What if balanced is something you become? Where you can feel a sense of balance even when you're busy? Where balance feels less like productivity and more like peace? This is what Christy believes we are actually after. [3:45] “Life balance isn't doing everything for an equal amount of time. It's about doing the right things at the right time.” When you do the right things at the right time, you actually feel that sense of balance that you've been looking for. Not only do you feel balanced in the moment, you shake the guilt for all of the things you're NOT doing. [6:20] “Priorities have a season.” Not everything is a priority all of the time. There will be seasons of your life where certain things that typically feel like a priority will have to take a backseat. This is hard for many people (myself included) to swallow in a world where we've been indoctrinated to do it all, all of the time. This means you shouldn't consider yourself a failure when you're doing what is right, right now. [8:20] Disclaimer: you will still have days where you have multiple things that you love very much competing for your attention. You will have to make a choice, and it will not feel easy. Your season and your circumstances will help you determine what is right at the right time. You have to stop focusing on where you are not, and instead choose to keep your attention where your feet are. This helps you focus on what's in front of you and shake the guilt for the things you're not doing. Today is the day to preorder Christy's book Take Back Your Time - A Guilt Free Guide to Life Balance! I'm serious, this book is incredible and I'm already working through my second read of it. How often as entrepreneurs do we feel overwhelmed, and spread too thin? Our to-do list feels miles long. We jump from one task to another because they're all important and all require our attention. And we can never get everything done that we want to in the day. We have a hard time focusing on just one thing. But instead of crossing tasks off our lists, this leaves us with multiple half-finished tasks, and the overwhelm is still there. Even though you may be accomplishing more than most, you still don't feel successful. Let me tell you, friend, it doesn't have to be this way. This week on the Epic Success Podcast, I share with you 9 time-saving habits: a system used by highly productive, high-achieving entrepreneurs that you can use to gain hours back in your day! I can't wait to share with you these tips that will help you be more productive, crush your goals, and reach your biggest dreams. If you're ready to take back control of your time, grab something to write with and listen in! The biggest take-aways from today's episode are: “You need to define what success means to YOU.” What does it mean to be successful for you? And what does it mean to feel successful every day? Listen to this episode for a crucial brain-based exercise where you will picture yourself as successful and write down some important details . Make sure you tune in to this part, because this is where it all starts. [7:35] “Make sure you plan out your days the night before, with 3 things you need to complete to call the day a success.” This starts the night before. When you have a clear vision for the next day, write down your three non-negotiable things that absolutely must get done. In the morning, when you're looking at your notes from the night before, if those three things are still priorities (nothing else has come up), then schedule them in your planner. See the next step ;) [17:01] “Time block and schedule your to-do list!” Do you know how highly successful entrepreneurs get things crossed off their to-do list? They put it in their schedule! They take their top three important tasks to complete, and block out a few hours of their day to complete those tasks. This allows you to have scheduled time to commit to these priorities. You don't schedule meetings during that time or wander off to complete other tasks. Commit to the time you've assigned for those priorities. [18:00] It was hard to pick just a few key points to highlight in this episode, so make sure you dig into the entire episode and take notes on each of the nine steps of this plan! Bottom Line: You can have stress and achievement in a way that isn't stressful or overwhelming. This Powerhouse Productivity™ Plan is such an impactful tool that allows us to get HOURS back in our day. I am thrilled to give you my full implementation plan for all of these 9 steps (plus 6 more) that literally changed me from being a stressed out average achieving hamster on a hamster wheel to a highly productive and very successful (as defined by me) entrepreneur – living an EPIC life and having a business I love! In this episode, Dr. Brandon Pardekooper shoots from the hip a little as he shares his thoughts and feelings about how we as pastors and ministry leaders should be responding to an issue our congregations are dealing with. I was in a new church, new city, and completely new part of the country. The culture shock was overwhelming for me right out of Bible College, and had this one thing been in place, I may have stayed for a year instead of a month. Over the next several months there will be a lot of new pastoral hires for a lot of churches, and this experience can make the difference between a new staff member staying a year or staying 5 years. If you want to increase your staff retention, then you need to understand how to create a memorable staff onboarding experience. It's Monday!!! For pastors and ministry leaders, Monday's can be a mixed bag. Some are on cloud 9 because yesterday went so well, while others are frustrated, discouraged, and perpetually exhausted because yesterday didn't go as well as expected. What happens when more Monday's are the latter than the former? Do you feel like you can't go on any longer? In this episode, Dr. Brandon Pardekooper defines burnout, which may be surprising to see how prone pastors and ministry leaders are to it. He also discusses the signs of burning out, and then practical steps you can take to keep from burning out. (If you want to be supported in your ministry, have a sounding board for ideas, or want to problem solve your daily ministry challenges, check out Unlimited Ministry Coaching with Dr. Brandon Pardekooper. Ministry burnout is a common thing and even if you are on the top of the world, a member of your team, a colleague, or a friend in the ministry may be struggling with this, and knowing how to help could mean the difference between them staying in the ministry or not. The confidence I had knowing I was called to be there is what opened the for me to be there when it happened....the moment that changed my life. How did it happen for you? MEET KAYLA REYNOLDS, MS Kayla Reynolds is a late-twenty something New York City transplant, originally from Montreal, Canada, and the co-leader of Badass Lady Gang’s NYC chapter. When she’s not dancing with her BALG, she’s working on checking off walking every street of Manhattan by foot, exploring one neighborhood at a time, and determined to find NYC’s best cold brew and restaurants along the way. As a child and eventually teenager, Kayla joined every team sport imaginable, and cheerleading quickly became her passion. Growing up very active and also experiencing many digestive issues, she became interested in nutrition and the impact that food had on the way she felt and performed. Paired with her love of all things science, she eventually chose to move to NYC to pursue her Master of Science in Human Nutrition at Columbia University. It was there, alongside her own life experiences where she realized that the food that made it to our plates is only a sliver of the health equation. Over time, her passion for mental health and wellbeing grew, and she began to see our “diet” as more than just food, but everything that we consume -- social media, advertisement, relationships, self-talk, … and so much more. Now, when it comes to nutrition, she believes that our thoughts about food, our bodies, and ourselves impact us more than any one food we eat (or don’t), and that having a healthy, balanced, low-stress relationship with food is most important. Food doesn’t need to be so complicated. So, she’s dedicated to helping people ditch diet culture and lead full, fulfilling lives, which can’t happen on an empty stomach.
