As a trauma-informed coach who survived my own journey through infidelity, I've discovered that most troubled relationships follow a pattern: one partner acts as the "bomb maker" while the other becomes "the bomb." This powerful metaphor, borrowed from relationship expert Jennifer Finlayson-Fife, perfectly captures the dynamic where one person creates chaos while the other absorbs negativity until eventually exploding.When someone lives a double life through affairs or addiction, they manufacture stress through lies and deception. Their partner feels this constant undercurrent of negative emotion but can't quite identify its source—until discovery happens. Then the explosion occurs. The aftermath leaves both people wondering how to navigate this emotional minefield. Do you recognize signs of a bomb maker? They create emotional outbursts, start arguments with contradictory statements, engage in gaslighting, blame-shift, emotionally manipulate, and place unrealistic expectations on their partner. These behaviors destroy trust, drain energy, and erode self-esteem in devastating ways.Healing starts with acknowledging what's happening. Set clear boundaries and communicate consequences when they're violated. Instead of trying to control your partner's behavior, focus on what actions you'll take to protect yourself when tensions rise. Create emotional safety within yourself rather than relying on someone else to provide it. Most importantly, get support. While betrayal magnifies these destructive dynamics, with awareness and proper guidance, both partners can learn to recognize these patterns and create healthier relationship dynamics. A sermon for Proper 10, July 13, 2025. Luke 10:25-37 Just then a lawyer stood up to test Jesus. "Teacher," he said, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?" He said to him, "What is written in the law? What do you read there?" He answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself." And he said to him, "You have given the right answer; do this, and you will live." But wanting to justify himself, he asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" Jesus replied, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell into the hands of robbers, who stripped him, beat him, and went away, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down that road; and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan while traveling came near him; and when he saw him, he was moved with pity. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, having poured oil and wine on them. Peter Rough, Director of the Hudson Institute's Center on Europe and Eurasia, joins Michael to discuss why time may be running out for Russia in its war on Ukraine. He argues that tighter international sanctions enforcement and increased U.S. weapons and intelligence support could begin to squeeze the Kremlin as early as late this year, as the economic costs of the war mount. This comes as the dog days of summer in Ukraine wear on without any fundamental shifts in the conflict.  

With the 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs expiring on July 9th, President Trump's trade negotiations with key partners remain at an impasse. On July 7th, he signed an order allowing the pause to lapse on August 1st and sent formal notices to 14 countries, announcing that new tariff rates would take effect that same day. Tariffs have become both a bargaining chip and a blunt instrument in his push to revive U.S. manufacturing. But beyond the slogans, global supply chains are under strain, and American manufacturers are feeling the pressure.
