Amelia Ford and her husband, Shawn Maass, have been having an incredible 2023. Capping off the year, Amelia released three stellar singles in "Hate Her," "Happy Now," and now "Loyal." While the first two singles hit hard, "Loyal" is a ballad that combines the pop sensibilities of her Wide Wide Open album with some of the harder edged textures of "Hate Her" and "Happy Now." Amelia and Shawn also talk about the process of bringing a new band together, Shawn the musician, voice lessons and growth, and singing badly around the house. Sounds like fun! This episode is dedicated to the memory of the "King of Oshkosh," drummer Tom Hansen. He is missed."Happy Now" and "Loyal" written and performed by Amelia Ford℗ 2023 Amelia Ford. This past week, the Superior Telegram released its 21st episode of Archive Dive. For this month's episode, we dip into a true crime, discussing the unsolved 1897 murder of Joseph Blackburn. It is titled "Gold, a coffin and an unsolved murder near Gordon." An eccentric and a recluse, Blackburn became wealthy providing supplies to lumbermen in the timber-rich area near Gordon. Not one to trust in banks, he was rumored to keep a chest of gold. When he was killed by a blow from behind, robbery was the suspected reason. Searches for the fabled treasure went on for years and even led a judge to exhume the body of Blackburn's wife Mary, who had been buried in a glass-lidded coffin. But gold was never found. Telegram reporter Maria Lockwood is joined by Doug MacDonald as well as Brian Finstad, both of the Gordon-Wascott Historical Society, as they explore Blackburn's life, death and possible suspects, including one who was acquitted and another who gained infamy out west. You can find that episode at superiortelegram.com or wherever you also get this podcast. In case you missed last month's episode, we are re-sharing it here. Today, a special episode remembering the life and work of Tom Hansen, who died this week of esophageal cancer. Hansen was born in Seattle and raised by adoptive parents in nearby Edmonds, Washington. A failed skateboarder, dishwasher, and punk rock guitarist, he turned to shooting and dealing smack. He later kicked his habit, returned to school, and eventually earned an MFA in writing from the University of British Columbia. Earlier this month, the Superior Telegram released its 19th episode of Archive Dive. It is part one of a two-part series where we look back at the life of the legendary Bud Grant. Harry Peter Grant, Jr., was born on May 20, 1927 in Superior and excelled at multiple sports before going on to guide the Minnesota Vikings as their head coach for 18 seasons, including four Super Bowl appearances. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1994. On March 11, 2023, Grant passed away at the age of 95. May 21st, the day after what would have been his 96th birthday; numerous friends, fans and family members memorialized him at a public celebration of life at U.S. Bank Stadium. The Vikings will be honoring Grant all season long, including special patches on their jerseys for their opening game. In part one, we're joined by one of Bud's granddaughters, former Northern News Now anchor and reporter Natalie Grant as she shares stories and special memories. "He was grandpa to me," says Natalie Grant. "Honestly, he was a stoic guy, but he also loved a smile and loved to laugh. He loved his family more than anything. But, yeah, for me, he was just grandpa. I was born in 1996, and he was inducted into the (Pro Football) Hall of Fame a couple of years before that, so I kind of missed in my lifetime of him being this big NFL coach in a sense, and so to me, I didn't quite realize how big of a deal he was to the state of Minnesota until I was a lot older." Natalie is now a reporter and multimedia journalist for KXLY-TV, the ABC affiliate in Spokane, Washington. Among the topics she'll talk about in this episode are her grandpa's early days in Superior, spending time with him at his cabin in Gordon, those famous garage sales he held at his home in Bloomington, what the family thought when he walked onto the field in a short-sleeved shirt for the coin toss before the Vikings cold outdoor playoff game against Seattle in January of 2016, words of advice, what made him emotional, besides their last name, something else she has in common with her grandpa, and much more. You can find that episode at superiortelegram.com or whatever streaming service you listen to this podcast. Look for part two of our series in September when telegram reporter Maria Lockwood sits down with another NNN alum, longtime sportscaster and currently a Communicating Arts senior lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, Tom Hansen for more about the great Bud Grant. In case you missed Archive Dive's 18th episode, we are re-sharing it here. Bud Grant was one of a number of famous alums of Superior Central High School. In July's podcast, titled Stories from Superior Central, Maria and local historian Teddie Meronek discussed the history of the school and the impact that it and its students had on the community. Enjoy and thank you for listening!

#149 - Many leaders struggle with control. It's hard to let go when our passion for ministry is so high, but as we've seen time and time again, it's not healthy long-term for leaders to be in control of every aspect within their ministry. In fact, we'd even suggest that the health of a ministry can be determined by what would happen if the leader wasn't there. On today's episode of the podcast, we sit down with our friend Tom Hansen and discuss the ways he distributes leadership throughout the church so that no one person feels the weight of it all. We hope you enjoy episode 149 of the Lead Volunteers Podcast and share it with a ministry leader you know who may find this beneficial for their ministry context! This week we finally re-watch 500 Days of Summer, Directed by Mark Webb. 500 Days of Summer is the story of Tom Hansen played by Joseph Gordon Levitt and Summer Finn played by Zoey Deschanel. The peculiar way in which this story is told makes it hard to give a lead in without totally spoiling the film. This story spans 500 days… 500 days in which Tom Hansen is in love with Summer Finn, but the story is not told in sequential order, we jump in and out of these 500 days, slowly piecing together this story like a jig-saw puzzle. At times we peek in on a horrible argument, other times we jump backward in time to a beautiful date night at the movies. Slowly as we the audience step back… and back again… we get a full picture of the love, the loss, the rebirth of these two individuals Tom Hansen and Summer Finn, as we ultimately learn the story… of 500 Days of Summer…See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

"This is a story of boy meets girl". On this week's episode we are featuring special guest Charly Williams to talk all about the ins and outs of relationships as we take a look at one of the most famous indie film relationships between the characters Tom Hansen and Summer Finn of the movie "500 Days of Summer". It's all about diving into the good, the bad, and raising the question of just how well this movie still holds up today.
In this episode Mark talks about the 2009 American romantic comedy-drama film "500 Days of Summer" directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber. The story of the film, as told in a nonlinear narrative structure, revolves around the recollections and the memories of Tom Hansen (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt), a trained architect who works as a writer at a greetings card company, of his relationship with Summer Finn (played by Zooey Deschanel), the new assistant to Tom's boss Vance (played by Clark Gregg). As depicted in the film, even from the moment that they meet one another, Tom and Summer's relationship seems to be one in which they enjoy doing the same things, they enjoy listening to the same music, and they enjoy every moment of the time that they spend with one another; however, over time, Tom and Summer's relationship starts to disintegrate - because, while Tom believes that they are a couple, Summer continuously refuses to put a label on their relationship, which ultimately leads to Summer and Tom to go their separate ways. Tom takes his break up with Summer incredibly hard, but with the help of Tom's half-sister Rachel (played by Chloë Grace Moretz), and Tom's friends McKenzie (played by Geoffrey Arend) and Paul (played by Mathew Gray Gubler), as well as with the harsh light of hindsight after Tom and Summer randomly run into one another again after some time has passed, both Tom and Summer come to the realisation that, as a result of their relationship with one another, even while they were apart, both of them found themselves reevaluating their belief on love, on fate - and ultimately they come to conclusion that though two people might always have been meant meet each other unfortunately not every couple is meant to stay in a relationship with one another, because sometimes people are fated to be with someone else who and when they may least expect to find the right person for them. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/markthepoet/message

10th place to visit was Kuurna, in the Kruunuhaka district of Helsinki. This restaurant has been here for a good while, but has recently been given new life by the couple taking over: Laura and Tom Hansen. Together dining out this evening with me was Petteri Heino from Intel whom I've gotten to know through a joint project where we were researching how AI is being used by Finnish companies. Petteri's approach for doing business development is merited from his history of working with a number of large American IT companies, which definitely alongside his perspective on the future of technology, made for an interesting table conversation. This fine bistro has great character thanks to the food, but also due to the venue. Beautiful archs in the ceiling makes for romantic atmosphere, but it certainly makes for a great place to go deep in complicated business topics. The menu itself changes every 2 weeks, so no wonder they have a loyal base of customers. I actually got my first recommendation to go to Kuurna from a person who had been there more than 10 times. After the dinner, I can see why. We got to pick between 3 starters, 3 main courses and 3 desserts. I did whitefish tartar, Salmon and coffee bean-raspberry goodness. Every single dish was flawless, as we've come to expect at any top 50 restaurant. What was striking was the way the food was presented - so beautiful while tasty. I'd recommend this for either business lunch/dinner or romantic getaway with a flawless bistro food served in a great setting. You'll also hear a quick comment from the other co-owners of Kuurna, Laura Hansen.

Hansen shares his morning routine as both a cop and police chief, while he provides advice and shares concerns for new officers entering the profession while admitting he is scared for the future of the profession.
Happy Valentine's Day! This time we tore apart the 2009 movie "(500) Days of Summer," an overly-stylized hipster attempt at an anti-romantic comedy. You can't spell parenthetical without pathetic. This is one of the most pretentious movies in the last ten years. They bounce back and forth between timelines for no reason, make obvious literary, music, art, and film references to try and seem smart, and they even have films-within-the-film to seem clever. It also hits the annoying montage trifecta: a sadness montage, a redemption montage, and a post-coital-skipping-around-super-happy montage. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Tom Hansen, man-boy who works as a writer at a greeting card company, but secretly wants to be an architect, his true passion. Well, he only decides to be one when he's told to become one once by a hot chick. Zooey Deschanel play Summer Finn, a classic Manic Pixie Dream Girl who makes it perfectly clear to this dude that she doesn’t want a serious relationship, and in a sense, is the real victim of this story—even though she’s made to be a pseudo-villain. Join as we discuss how this movie is weirdly racist against Chinese people for no reason and how it's another modern movie about Los Angeles a la "La La Land" where L.A. is showed in a clean and idealized old-timey way. Conversations in Creative Evangelism: A Conversation with Tom Hansen, Poet
On today's episode of Loud & Clear, Brian Becker and Walter Smolarek and Nicole Roussell (sitting in for John Kiriakou) are joined by Peter Kuznick, a professor and director of the Nuclear Studies Institute at American University, and co-author with Oliver Stone of the book and the hit television series “The Untold History of the United States.” Donald Trump used his speech at the United Nations to lay out an aggressive agenda targeting U.S. rivals and declaring his blanket opposition to multilateralism and so-called “globalism”. While some of Trump’s remarks were met with laughter by the assembled diplomats, what does his speech reveal about his administration’s approach to securing U.S. hegemony around the world? Wednesday’s regular segment, Beyond Nuclear, is about nuclear issues, including weapons, energy, waste, and the future of nuclear technology in the United States. Kevin Kamps, the Radioactive Waste Watchdog at the organization Beyond Nuclear, joins the show. Speaking at the UN Security Council today, Donald Trump accused China of interfering in the midterm election on behalf of opponents of his administration. This is just the latest in a series of anti-China moves and statements coming from the administration. Brian speaks with David Ewing, the chair of the San Francisco chapter of the US-China People’s Friendship Association. Julie Swetnick is the third person to come forward with allegations of serious sexual harassment, assault, or violence by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and others he associated with. Dr. Christine Blasey Ford is slated to testify tomorrow about the sexual assault she suffered from Kavanaugh. This testimony is scheduled despite no investigation yet as requested by Dr. Blasey. Hannah Dickinson, associate professor at Hobart and William Smith Colleges and member of the Geneva Women’s Assembly, joins the show. Iran and the EU have come up with a payment system to work around the US’s sanctions against Iran and anyone doing business with Iran. This is yet another fracture of the EU and US’s relationship. Meanwhile, National Security Adviser John Bolton said in a speech that there would be hell to pay if Iran harmed the US. Medea Benjamin, an anti-war and anti-torture activist who is the co-founder of Code Pink, and whose most recent book is “Inside Iran: The Real History and Politics of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”, joins Brian. The US has imposed new sanctions on several high-ranking officials in Venezuela, including Congresswoman Cilia Flores who also is the wife of President Maduro. The New York Times also published an op-ed today called “Time for a Coup?” about overthrowing President Maduro. Chuck Kaufman, the National Co-Coordinator of the Alliance for Global Justice, joins the show.Mexico’s military arrested two police commanders for murder and the highway police chief for carrying unlicensed weapons in Acapulco. The entire police force has been disarmed and is now being investigated. Brian and John speak with Tom Hansen, the international education director of the Mexico Solidarity Network.
Hansen, who served as Pac-12 commissioner for a quarter century, discusses the addition of the Arizona schools to the conference, the attempt to add Texas in the early 1990s and what conferences might look like a decade from now.

Subscribe on iTunes Subscribe on Stitcher Subscribe on Google Play Quotes Our approach to teaching a new skill is education, application and support. We start with why its important, then we apply it to practice and then from there we figure out what works and what doesn’t for each kid. We say the breath is the MVP of the mental game. We spend a lot of time on teaching it. a concept that Ken Ravizza and Tom Hansen discuss. Learn it Do it Own it We invest a lot of time learning it, but can we actually practice the skills? We need to create a practice environment that does that. Theres a difference between a jungle tiger and a zoo tiger. Whats the life of a zoo tiger like? Spoon-fed, easy and comfortable. What’s life like in the jungle? Its stressful and your survival is on the line. Now lets compare it to baseball, which one is practice and which one is the game? We need to be able to create more jungle tigers and put our players in stressful situations. There’s a lot of time to think in baseball. Your mind can be your best friend of your work enemy. It can be a weapon or a weakness. In order to get behavior change, we have to get repetition and progression of skills. If I’m a coach and I do session in the classroom once a week, thats better than nothing. In that setting we expect the players to transfer those skills over to the field. If we only do those sessions in the classroom, we’re going to be setup for disappointment. The Tao of Sports Podcast – The Definitive Sports, Marketing, Business Industry News Podcast
The world of marketing, branding and whether or not we’re telling too many stories instead of actually activating products is discussed with Tom Hansen. Explored in this episode are how the relationships between brands and consumers matter, whether traditional media still holds relevance in consumer’s hearts as it had in the past (i.e. Mad Men era), and if the GEICO Caveman advertisements were harmed by the brand extending to an actual television sitcom. Hansen talks about starting the Kane County Cougars Baseball team in the heart of Chicago within the territory of the Cubs & White Sox, yet making it successful despite critical skepticism whether the venture would work. This episode goes far beyond sports, examining how sponsorship, marketing, branding and activation tie into each other to build a greater consumer product. Twitter: @THansen30
Tom Hansen is the guest. He is the author of the memoir American Junkie and a new novel called This is What We Do. Both are available from Emergency Press. Grace Krilanovich says "There’s what people say, and then there’s what they do. The phrase will infect your consciousness, contorting and twisting itself around to take on more and more dimensions. What does it mean to act on our desires when one person’s wish fulfillment means another’s nightmare? What does it mean to be free, or to escape? At its core, This is What We Do gives us two people left with nothing, cutting close to the uncoolness of loving without fear." And Gina Frangello says "Hansen's debut novel covers even wilder, trickier ground than his memoir, American Junkie. Anti-hero James Nethery seems an ordinary, lonely man drinking Coke at the bar, until he meets "Lily," a Ukrainian prostitute, and what began as a quiet, atmospheric meditation on down-and-out expats in Paris explodes into a nonstop, genre-blending noir-crime-vigilante-political-sexy-nihilistic-almost surreal thrill ride, infused in equal measures with brutality and beauty."
