As a psychotherapist, Vanessa has extensive experience with narcissism based on her own encounter with a narcissist in her personal life and so she offers not just the clinical perspective, but an extreme and very exclusive story of abuse. She has developed a coaching program based on her own experience and what helped her to recover from her psychological trauma after fleeing from her narcissist in the middle of the night. Her practice works to educate you on narcissism and what/who you are actually dealing with; Narcissism is categorized as a personality disorder by the mental health profession and is referred to as NPD or Narcissistic Personality Disorder, but it is FAR bigger than what is stated clinically in the DSM-V and few people are diagnosed because few people go to therapy. Vanessa ran across the state of New York in a wedding dress to raise awareness about narcissistic abuse. In this episode, she shares her unique perspective on narcissism and cults, the brain damage caused by narcissistic abuse & trauma and actionable tips for survivors. “The narcissist will never be able to fix their corrupt disorder. It is a rigid disorder,” says Vanessa Reiser, a licensed clinical social worker and author who specializes in narcissistic and cult abuse. She joins Dr. Z to talk about the striking similarities between narcissistic relationships and cult dynamics, focusing on how coercive control plays a role in both. Drawing from her own life experiences and professional background, Vanessa shares insights from her book “Narcissistic Abuse: A Therapist's Guide to Identifying, Escaping, and Healing from Toxic and Manipulative People.” She breaks down how narcissists deploy tactics like gaslighting, isolating their victims, and enlisting enablers (often called “flying monkeys”) to keep control. But how does this connect to cult-like dynamics? Vanessa explains that these methods work by stripping away a person's identity that will trap them in a mental prison that's just as damaging as the control seen in actual cults. This episode reminds listeners of the resilience required to break free from these toxic environments and the importance of building supportive relationships that will help individuals reclaim their identities. Vanessa's insights offer valuable tools and strategies for overcoming these challenges that encourage listeners to seek help and validation as they move toward healing and self-empowerment. Quotes “A real cult is always led by somebody who's trying to control, groom, and manipulate others to get supply and attention. We see this in intimate relationships and families. What they're doing is using the classic tactics of narcissists to manipulate others to do what they want. They will isolate and get you to basically only view their opinions.” (05:01 | Vanessa Reiser) “There's this misconception that people who get sucked into ‘these cults'—whether it's a cult of one, within a family system, or on a larger scale hiding behind a religious organization—have low self-esteem or no backbone. That's not true… It's important for people to understand that it has nothing to do with intelligence. The myth that you're a weak person comes from the fact that once you're in this cult—whether it's a cult of one or something larger—the whole point is to gain control and power over you. And with that comes the loss of self-identity.” (07:48 | Dr. Z) “A narcissist will never be able to fix their corrupt disorder. It is a rigid disorder.” (16:49 | Vanessa Reiser) “A narcissist is allergic to your power and autonomy. They want to groom you and keep you ignorant, unaware, and not in the know.” (36:25 | Vanessa Reiser) Links Connect with Vanessa Reiser: https://www.facebook.com/vanessa.pugliese https://www.instagram.com/vanessareiserlcsw/ https://x.com/vanessareisersw https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrYVROGoPdYqsEFkr2XYC9A https://amzn.to/3XPf9ad Connect with Dr. Z: https://www.drjaimezuckerman.com/ https://www.zgrouptherapy.com/ https://www.instagram.com/dr.z_psychologist/ https://www.tiktok.com/@dr.z_psychologist Shop my new Mindfully Messy hoodie here: http://www.drjaimezuckerman.com/apparel Get my FREE breathing exercise here: http://www.drjaimezuckerman.com/newsletter Register for my virtual workshops here: http://www.drjaimezuckerman.com/workshops Order my workbooks! http://www.drjaimezuckerman.com/books Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm

An audio version of my 2021 Instagram dive where a cursory search to learn more about Teresa's new man, Luis Ruelas, led to a lengthy court case with his ex-fiancée, Vanessa Reiser. The winding tale and transcripts seemed to be the source for multiple news articles about his character. A thorough review of the case painted a picture of a dysfunctional relationship, one that both parties should be thrilled to be free of, yet their legal drama has continued into 2024. We start with a story about a bitter breakup, where it all began. Future parts will follow the journey that led it to became fodder and weaponry between cast members on The Real Housewives of New Jersey. Dear Listeners, In this exciting Bonus Episode of The Dichotomy Diaries, I interview the beautiful, bad ass, Vanessa Reiser, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker from The Big Apple who's got a BOOK coming out soon! (Pre-Order Link Below!) We talk about SO many juicy topics including the connection between narcissistic abuse and cults, the behavior and mindset of narcissists and psychopaths, and dissect the experience of victims down piece by piece. We touch on the confusing role most family members take in (not) warning others about the narcissist in their life. Join us as we break down the challenges of conveying the complexity of narcissistic abuse in a concise manner others. A topic that I've really struggled with lately... This episode also explores trauma bonding and addiction in narcissistic relationships. Vanessa and I talk about the repetitive cycle of love bombing, devaluing, and discarding, which creates a trauma bond and intense addiction to the makeup session. Vanessa emphasizes the need for support and understanding for those trying to extricate themselves from these relationships, comparing it to drug addiction. Not to mention the post-separation abuse that can occur, which more often than not, includes attempts to destroy the victim's life. I had SO MUCH FUN chatting in up with Vanessa and learning all the things from her not only about my relationship with Dick, but about important topics and congruencies I wasn't even aware of. In today's show! There's so much gossip in it that honestly it could be an entire season of a podcast for New Jersey. RHONJ SPOILER ALERT. As you probably heard GABRIELA used to run @MelissasOldnose now only on X. At the height of her account popularity, she had gossip know one else had and the tabloids covered her often, which is very unusual. She was a Teresa Giudice fan turned incentivized social media soldier for Teresa and Jennifer's camps. It turns out her suppliers of gossip were Louis Ruelas, Jennifer Aydin, Teresa Giudice and Teresa's attorney, which is why it was so good. In the process of working with them, she communicated with one or all of these people almost every day about the Real Housewives of New Jersey season 13, 14 and even 15, which hasn't started shooting yet. In these many conversations on the phone and by text she got all the show points and she got access to season 14 content. She learned the RHONJ dirty cast laundry that Jennifer and Teresa had found out and Luis worked on disseminating. It has been rumored that Shed media digs for gossip on cast members to use on their shows AND I THINK SIREN DOES THIS TOO, and so I tell GABRIELA that this might explain the "operation" Jennifer Aydin and Teresa Giudice set up as it is very toxic environment for cast members of this production company. I also know many of the other cast members do this type of gossip too on each other but to varying degrees so everyone Is impacted by this climate...I decide I want to punish Siren in the only way that impacts them so I ask Gabriela to tell us the following on today's show.-All of the big moments of Season 14 that will happen including ep 1 and the finale.-Teresa's storyline for season 15 (not shot yet)-What Teresa really thinks of her cast members including Delores behind the scenes.-What Teresa wants all the world to know about her castmates dirty laundry.-Luis Ruelas new lawsuit by a law firm that worked for Bo Dietl.-Luis Ruelas trying to get information on Vanessa Reiser.-What Teresa did to Kim D and why she befriended her.-How Teresa and Jennifer rallied the fans to impact the show themes and work with Siren to get them out there.-What it was like to hear Teresa and Luis Ruelas interact in stressful moments.-Does Bravo know what Gabriella does?IT'S ALOT. Luis Ruelas and Bo Dietl have been sued for allegedly hacking the computers for “harassment and abuse” of Luis' ex Vanessa Reiser. We break down the origins of these claims, deep dive the claims themselves, review Luis' cryptic social media responses and Bo Dietl's response, analyze what this means for next season of RHONJ and how this potentially effects RHONJ's return in April. We discuss Teresa's involvement in this, the fact that history could be repeating itself and chat about what she must be going through. Can someone say PTSD? Moving on, we recap RHOBH - Erika's pain, Sutton's apology, Kyle's revelations about Mauricio, Annemarie's brunch, Garcelle's charity, Dorit's confusion, Crystal's absence and much, much more. With all of the stories of narcissistic abusers coming out in interviews and stories related to Armie Hammer, Vanderpump Rules cast, CDAN Enty, RHOM, RHOBH S2, RHONJ, 19 Kids and Counting and more. Dana sets her sights on setting the record straight for the victims both male or female of these people that they are not in relationships that have just gone bad. RHOBH alumni, Dana is a survivor of narcissist abuse, so is the right one to do this. A person who is a narcissist is not simply someone with narcissistic attributes, it is a serious mental illness and has distinct patterns in behavior, which result in abuse such as lack of impulse control, pathological lying and no empathy for people. Also it turns out that Narcissists are hugely successful in our world because of these negative characteristics. They are attracted to being in job positions like CEOs, reality TV, politics, acting, influencer jobs, lawyers and doctors. There are astonishing patterns in their behavior and Vanessa Reiser Narcissist abuse survivor, author and therapist will help me break them down and tell you FINALLY why a narcissist does what they do, which doesn't make sense to normal people and leaves their victims thinking they are crazy. Dana uses her experience as well as Cassandra's who recently came out publicly about Crazy Days and Nights - Enty to give everyone a clear, easy to understand, reasoning behind their abusive patterns. There will also be parallels to other celebrities you will recognize in here. This is a must listen in understanding the shocking behavior of a narcissist, which includes love bombing, lying, cheating, addiction and sexual insatiability. You or someone you know is likely to encounter a narcissist in their lifetime and here are the red flags, and a short manual on what they do and why.Full episode in the Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/DishingDramaWithDanaWilkeyVanessa Reiser's book: https://www.amazon.com/Narcissistic-Abuse-Identify-Escape-Manipulative/dp/0306833174Follow: Vanessa Reiser: https://www.instagram.com/vanessareiserlcsw/?hl=enSupport the showDana is on Cameo!Get Dishing Drama Dana Merch!https://represent.com/store/dishing-drama-dana-wilkeyFollow Dana: @Wilkey_Dana$25,000 Song - Apple Music$25,000 Song - SpotifyTo support the show and listen to full episodes, become a member on PatreonTo learn more about sponsorships, email DDDWpodcast@gmail.comDana's YouTube Channel

After Teresa Giudice's husband, Louie Ruelas, had a legal victory against his obsessed ex, Vanessa Reiser — he was expected to appear on his wife's podcast, Namaste B$tches, with a headline stating that the "truth" will finally come out... yet that episode never aired. There is the obvious reason of the cast of RHONJ being on a continuous "gag-order" from the network since last season... but there's also another reason, and it involves Vanessa, Bo Dietl, and a woman name Elaine Boxer. Narcissists spend their life blaming you for the things they did. Let that sink in for a moment. If you've been in a relationship with a narcissist, you get it. It can be personal, professional, family or friend. And it's not until you've cut the cord that you see the manipulative tactics used to keep you small and wondering what's wrong with you. From gaslighting to love bombing and everything in between, you feel like you are stuck, need to change and when you finally wake up, getting out can seem far out of reach. Licensed therapist Vanessa Reiser has been there. And because of my own story of being in the relationship with a narcissist, I gravitated to her message. Let me tell you, she doesn't sugar coat when she shares… or runs. Running is Vanessa's own therapy. And since 2021, she's been hitting the pavement to raise awareness of narcissistic abuse and domestic violence every June. But this isn't just any run. Vanessa takes to the road in a wedding dress. I told you she was different. And this year, it's Connecticut that gets to cheer her on. On this episode of HIListically Speaking, we get the low down of living with a narcissist. But also, a few important facts that every person should know including: The difference between narcissism and narcissistic personality disorder and the red flags to look for. How Vanessa found her way out of the abuse and into the therapy chair supporting others on their journey. And where she learned about narcissism herself. You have to hear it to believe it. Plus, how you can follow or even join Vanessa on her run June 1 and 2 to show your support. Lace up, my friend. It's time to take back control…. Vanessa Reiser was love bombed by her narcissistic ex in such an extravagant manner--like being showered with expensive gifts, to expensive cars, to a $150,000 engagement ring, and travels across the world. She didn't have time to breathe, much less clock in the red flags happening left and right. Vanessa is a therapist and works hard today to raise awareness to narcissistic spousal abuse, and started a movement by running 285 miles across the state of New York to raise awareness to their cause. Listen and learn how Vanessa was able to come up for air, evaluate and understand her situation and how she separated herself from the man that first swept her off her feet. Last episode of the season! Master Steph joins me again to talk all about narcissistic personality disorder (npd), and most importantly the scary real life effects of narcissistic abuse. It can have detrimental effects on the brain and one's mental health. As always we get into some lyrics to get the conversation started, so for this episode we talk Jhené Aiko's "Triggered (Freestyle)". I also played a tik tok made by Lee Hammock (@mentalhealness) to get into the topic of gaslighting, manipulation, and reactive abuse. We also talk about an article that was sent to me about a woman, Vanessa Reiser, who survived narcissistic domestic abuse, who is currently running a marathon in a wedding dress to bring awareness to the topic.
