EPS 12 Build Others Up: The Atta-Boy Revisited  In this episode, you will learn: How to create and continue to build your personal Atta-folder The importance of building others up on a regular basis and how to do it effectively How to boost morale, increase productivity and job satisfaction of your staff with this simple, yet effective, habit  In Episode 1, How to Punch Negativity in the Face, we discussed an important concept and tool called the “Atta folder.” This folder is a place for you to collect all of the positive feedback you receive from those around you. This can be either personal or professional but, hopefully, you are receiving it from both arenas and it looks like: screenshots of emails, texts, tags, notes…anything that builds you up and reminds you of a strength that you possess or a job well done. The purpose of this folder, is to be a treasure chest of reminders of your AWESOMENESS! Evidence of what we have done wrong and what didn’t work is always available, right? This goodie bag of compliments and achievements needs to be there to serve as a shield for the hard days to fill in the gaps and protect us from the self-doubt and insecurity that we ALL experience from time to time. Let me tell ya friends, this is MAGIC! Today, we are going to revisit why we need these folders of inspiration and commendation but we will mainly focus on the other side of this coin as we ask ourselves: Are we regularly and intentionally filling the “Atta folders” of those around us?  It is vital to speak to strengths and to build others up! In showing sincere appreciation for their value and impact on our business and our lives, we can not only help others to build up their folders but ultimately, create a ripple effect as person after person makes it a habit to affirm and show appreciation for others. Join me as we discuss the many benefits of this vital practice for ourselves, examine the life changing results this has on others and how we can create a sustainable habit of encouragement that will make a huge impact in the lives around us. Action Steps: If you haven’t already, create YOUR own Atta-folder! If you already have one, add to it as often as possible and let the contents give you a boost as needed! (10:06) Go out and give sincere compliments or feedback to 3 people. This can be a handwritten note, a text, email…the important thing is that you are as specific as possible about what this person has done and why you appreciated it. (10:33) Create a habit around regularly building others up! Schedule it! Put a twice weekly reminder in your phone to show appreciation or create a ritual during school drop off or at the dinner table to highlight and affirm the strengths of those closest to you. The Walt Disney Company is in heated talks with union workers over pay and other issues as profits at the company’s theme-park division soar. According to Bloomberg, Employees have picketed outside Walt Disney World and complained in writing about being shut out of Disneyland for the annual holiday party. Last week, unions representing park workers in Florida and California filed complaints with the National Labor Relations Board over Disney’s decision to withhold a special $1,000 tax-reform bonus while contracts talks are underway, saying the company discriminated against those staffers. Disney said in a statement that, as required by law, compensation packages must be negotiated with the unions, and that the bonus is part of what’s under negotiation. “We presented fair and compelling offers to unions on both coasts, and we hope they will reach timely agreements with us on behalf of their members,” the company said. Kyle Thiermann is a professional big wave surfer, Patagonia surf ambassador, documentarian, journalist, and pal of mine. We took a drive down to Baja to get some work done and hang out. As a correspondent for Discovery Digital Networks, Kyle Thiermann covered important issues ranging from a little-known indigenous conflict in Southern Chile, to the impact wild pigs have on Hawaii's coral reefs. Thiermann's surfing skills earned him a spot among an elite group of athletes as a Patagonia Surf Ambassador. With Patagonia’s support, Thiermann created and hosted the award-winning documentary series, Surfing For Change. The series included stories about the Indonesia trash epidemic, Hawaii’s Monsanto protests, and the adverse impacts of surf tourism in Nicaragua. Thiermann speaks at universities throughout the country and in 2011 gave a TEDx talk in his wetsuit. His surfing and journalistic successes have earned him Surfrider’s Pro Surfer Environmental Achievement Award, the Brower Youth Award, the American Clean Skies Film Award, and the Peter Benchley Blue Vision Award. Thiermann has spent years becoming an expert in the ocean and is an alternate in the prestigious annual big-wave event at Mavericks. Aufgrund von Personalmangel verschob sich unser play³-Podcast #121 von Freitag auf Montag. Nicht weiter schlimm, denn der guten Laune hat es keinen Abbruch getan. Eigentlich hassen wir ja Montage, besonders zu dieser Jahreszeit. Man muss raus aus der kuschelig-warmen Wohnung, muss das Feinripp-Unterhemd in die Ecke werfen und sich stattdessen etwas "Vernünftiges" anziehen und das Mittagessen ist auch nicht so gut wie bei Muttern, Frau oder Freundin. Weil aber gerade die PS4 durch die Redaktionsräume wandert und Bier im Kühlschrank liegt, lässt es sich dann doch einigermaßen aushalten. Und wenn wir uns dann noch für zwei Stunden im Keller vor der Arbeit drücken können mit der Begründung "Podcast!" ist sowieso alles in Butter. Und so ziehen sich dann diesmal auch Uwe, Viktor, Wolfgang und Sascha ins Untergeschoss zurück, vernichten gekühlte Gerstengetränke und plaudern dabei über Videospiele. Die Themen diesmal: das erschreckend mittelmäßige Knack, das noch viel mittelmäßigere Valhalla Knights 3, das im Gegensatz dazu fantastische NBA 2K14 (auch bekannt als "das Spiel!") sowie die gefühlten 8.537 Ankündigungen zur Persona-Reihe. Nebenbei beantworten wir routiniert und ohne jedwede Professionalität eure Fragen und schweifen dabei immer wieder auf unsere charmant-geistesgestörte Art und Weise ab.
