In this History of Prints (HoP) episode, Tru and I finish talking about the life and work of William Hogarth, the father of Western sequential art.  We look at and pick apart three series: Industry and Idleness, The Four Stages of Cruelty, and Humours of an Election. Timely, no? Hogarth continues to point out society's faults and baser instincts. He never stopped trying to teach the masses about comportment and judgment. In this History of Western Prints (HoP) episode, Tru and I begin to explore the life and work of William Hogarth, the first British artist featured on Platemark's HoP series. Hogarth, renowned as the father of Western sequential art, is discussed through detailed analyses of three of his best known series: A Harlot's Progress, A Rake's Progress, and Marriage A-la-Mode. The episode delves into 18th-century London's morality, capturing the societal and artistic context of Hogarth's work. Highlights include discussions on the intricacies of Hogarth's prints, his depiction of social issues, the impact of his work on English law (copyright laws finally established!), and his mixed successes in various art forms. This first of two episodes on Hogarth sets the stage for part two when we look at his images around elections in Enlightenment England. We're continuing to revisit our deep dives into Star Wars: Visions, and this week's reupload includes an appearance by a very special guest - co-host of the TooTallBoyz Podcast and host of the Clueless Vino Podcast, author, anime expert, and our friend - Stik Braxton! Since the episode aired, Stik has released Easy Come, Easy Go: A Poetic Companion to Cowboy Bebop. If you're a fan of anime, you'll want to check it out! The Twins uses incredibly stylized animation to turn a few familiar Star Wars tropes on their heads. And The Village Bride gives us one of the most unique settings and some of the most memorable moments of the series so far. (Exploding trashcan helmets, anyone?). We really hope you enjoy our conversation! Who doesn't love a wedding? Particularly when it's so easy to get in? Anders and Colleen are heading off to the most beautifully animated planet ever and talking about The Village Bride, the animated short film from Star Wars Visions! We love those B1 Battle Droids, respect the collective and our families and give F all the props for Knighting herself! This week in Recommendations, Colleen suggests Hayao Miyazaki's beautiful animated films for Studio Ghibli, such as Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. Fair warning if you go on a Studio Ghibli deep dive, Grave of the Fireflies is wonderful, but also the most devastating thing Colleen's ever seen! The Village Bride was far and away my favorite Visions film and thats mostly because it told a Star Wars story without relying on Star Wars Imagery until the very end. By doing so, it made me question "What is Star Wars?". So what ive done is compiled what themes the Village Bride tackles and how those themes can answer the question, “what is star wars?”, which I think has become extremely important moving forward because when we leave the Skywalker Saga “the familiar” similar to how the Village Bride dispenses of the “familiar” Star Wars imagery, what are we left with? What will make these new Star Wars stories connect the way the last 40 years have?

Star Wars: Visions released all nine episodes on the same September day and Steve has been taking his time watching one at a time. Episode Four is, in his opinion, a return to efficiency and efficacy in storytelling, much like his feelings on "The Duel." Once again, the soundtrack is as much a star of the show as the characters, and is available to consider on Spotify for Kevin Penkin's 10 tracks. It may not be Steve's favorite (though give him some time and he may change his mind), but it's rumored to be the selection by the show for Academy Award consideration in the animated short film category. Steve recaps "The Village Bride", talks about the Filmmaker Focus featurette, and considers whether the kind of Visions episodes you like says something about the type of Star Wars fan you might represent. #DalePacoto❤️ TIMELINE 00:00:00 INTRO FOSERA 00:01:54 INICIO Y PRESENTACIONES 00:07:55 CAPÍTULO 1 "THE DUEL" 01:08:01 CAPÍTULO 2 "TATOOINE RHAPSODY" 01:25:33 CAPÍTULO 3 "THE TWINS" 01:55:58 CAPÍTULO 4 "THE VILLAGE BRIDE" 02:22:18 CAPÍTULO 5 "THE NINTH JEDI" 02:47:00 CAPÍTULO 6 "T0-B1" 03:10:20 CAPÍTULO 7 "THE ELDER" 03:40:47 CAPÍTULO 8 "LOP AND OCHÔ" 03:59:11 CAPÍTULO 9 "AKAKIRI" 04:16:30 CONCLUSIONES FINALES Y DESPEDIDAS www.lafosadelrancor.com
