Send us a textHave you ever felt uncomfortable promoting your creative work? That internal resistance to "shouting from the rooftops" is something nearly every artist faces. Today, I'm diving into why self-promotion isn't selfish—it's necessary. As creatives running small businesses, we wear countless hats. The marketing hat often feels most awkward, but it's essential for connecting your work with the people who need it. I share my own journey of promoting my studio through everything from $5 social media boosts to local billboards, while emphasizing that authenticity trumps perfection every time. Your unique creative voice—the way you draw a line, mix colors, or approach your craft—deserves to be seen and celebrated. The community you build around your work becomes your most powerful marketing engine. When someone experiences what you offer and tells a friend, that connection sparks a chain reaction that no paid advertisement can match. I've witnessed this firsthand as my studio has grown, with visitors often mentioning they followed me online or heard about my space from someone else. These connections fuel my transition from healthcare professional to full-time studio owner, allowing me to fully invest in my creative community.Remember that sharing your work isn't about ego—it's about inspiration. Your creative journey might be exactly what someone else needs to see to begin their own. Whether you're creating to sell or simply for personal fulfillment, your authentic voice matters. What creative passion are you ready to share with the world?Support the showCatch the doodles on YouTubeMy socials:Sign up for my monthly newsletterPortfolio website: Brewtifully.comInstagram: /BrewtifullyFacebook: /brewtifullyTikTok: GettingSmallwithGrandmaLinkedIn: Tracy Dawn Brewer

Dan Hermreck is the Director of Certification and Accreditation for the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP). He has a background in math education and initially worked as a teacher before transitioning to adult education. Dan got involved with direct support work by accident when he took on a training coordinator position at a local ARC chapter. He became familiar with NADSP through his connection with a state-level advocacy group and eventually became one of the first mentors for nationally certified direct support professionals. Dan is passionate about recognizing the professional skills of DSPs and advocating for their rights and fair compensation.Episode Summary:In this episode, Gina Scarpa interviews Dan Hermreck, the Director of Certification and Accreditation for the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP). Dan shares his journey into the field of direct support and discusses the importance of recognizing the professional skills of DSPs. He highlights the unique role of DSPs in supporting individuals with disabilities across various aspects of their lives and emphasizes the need for a unique Standard Occupational Code (SoC) to accurately classify and gather data on DSPs. Dan also introduces the NADSP E-Badge Academy, a certification program that recognizes and awards DSPs for their professional skills.Key Takeaways:DSPs are skilled professionals who support individuals with disabilities across all aspects of their lives, including health and wellness, community inclusion, and relationship-building.DSPs wear many hats and perform a variety of tasks that overlap with other caring professions such as home health aides and personal care attendants. The lack of a unique Standard Occupational Code (SoC) for DSPs makes it challenging to gather accurate data on the workforce and advocate for fair wages and resources. The introduction of a unique SoC for DSPs would enable policymakers to make informed decisions and allocate appropriate funding for the field. The NADSP E-Badge Academy offers a competency-based certification process for DSPs, allowing them to earn badges and demonstrate their professional skills over time. Notable Quotes:"Whenever I talk about great things that are happening in a human service provider, I always try to point out that, you know, this is because of your skill. This is not… you are a nice person, don't get me wrong, but you're also a skilled professional, and it's that professional skill that's really coming into play here." - Dan Hermreck "It [direct support profession] really is this kind of multifaceted profession, and that's what makes it unique in my mind."- Dan Hermreck "What I think we never say enough is that they're skilled, that they have really diverse set of professional skills that they're using each and every day."- Dan Hermreck"The lack of a unique SoC for DSPs makes it challenging to gather accurate data on the workforce and advocate for fair wages and resources." - Dan Hermreck"The NADSP E-Badge Academy offers a more manageable and achievable certification process for DSPs, allowing them to earn badges and demonstrate their professional skills over time." - Dan HermreckResources:National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP) websiteThe Arc of the United States websiteKansans Mobilizing for Direct Support Workforce Change: Final Report Hosted on Acast. This conversation may seem slightly premature or it may find you right on time, but trust me…I think it's important to set this straight now, as your mama brain is just starting to tip toe into the reality that summer is almost over and the school year will be here before you know it.    I KNOW you want to keep growing and getting better and you want to feel prepared for the upcoming semester…so let's have an honest Heart 2 heart conversation today!    I want to ask…   Have you ever been in a place where you feel nearly EVERY area of your life needs an overhaul?    Maybe Life has felt cluttered and chaotic for so long that the thought of actually making changes feels overwhelming. It just feels too hard and like too much! …so you do what you always do - nothing, and stay stuck.    Most likely You desire change for the good, but you're not sure where to start.  You know you need some new healthy habits to help you get your life together and your home in order; but you've been off track or derailed for so long. It feels super intimidating to take even small steps towards improvement.    Ultimately, You've failed yourself time and time again, and you don't really trust the commitments you make to yourself anymore. You struggle to believe in yourself and the negative self talk drowns out the encouraging voices around you.    Hey friend, I SEE you and I want you to know that God sees you!    Despite how you feel, you're not alone and you're not going under…You just need to take ONE simple but significant step to pivot in the right direction.     In this Heart 2 Heart conversation, I want to take you by the hand (just like I did with one of my coaching clients) and tell you WHERE to start when you desire to get some healthy habits in place to make the changes    Whether you need help in one area or maybe ALL the areas that feel out of order in your life...    NOW is the perfect time to get clarity and begin to REFOCUS before the school year with a powerful practice that will get your heart aligned and cultivate peace.    Connect ~ www.MichelleHiatt.com/connect Coaching ~ https://www.michellehiatt.com/coaching Email ~ Hello@MichelleHiatt.com IG ~ @MichelleAHiatt  FB ~ www.Facebook.com/MichelleAHiatt

Being conditioned the moment we are born, it becomes difficult to carry out what we believe our purpose is while still being fully aware of the roles we need to play in our various communities. In the search of the fulfillment of this purpose, we need to change our roles and labels to adapt and to grow. But there are times when these roles don't seem to suit or fit us. There are also times when we feel like we question if we still deserve to label ourselves with certain roles. In this episode, Mara talks about deserving and labeling, how they can feel both limiting and empowering, and how we can embrace the circumstances we are in and make them work not against us but for us. In this episode, I am talking with the multi-talented musician, radio host, businesswoman (and so much more) about wearing a lot of hats, adapting to the current climate and being forward-focused in your career. Beth is a well established French horn player with the Las Vegas Philharmonic. She toured with Wayne Newton, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis and has played with a range of artists - Metallica, the Who, Elton John, Luciano Pavarotti, and so many more. Beyond her musical career, she works as a voice actor, a radio personality, a writer, a teacher, and a business consultant. She's currently the Director of Marketing and Public Relations at the UNLV School of Music. And she was nominated for an Emmy for playing herself, which is just a cool thing to mention.Connect with Beth on social:Facebook: Personal profile Facebook: Music pageTwitter: @bethlano01:24 "I have a lot of interests. But I also realized that, in order to have a decent amount of income as a musician, especially as a freelancer, you need to wear a lot of hats. So why not explore those things that you want to explore? Why not use the talents that you have, and earn money for doing them, and enjoy them at the same time?"03:53 "If someone suddenly loses their sight, the other senses takeover. Having a lot of irons in the fire is the same way. The other irons are taking over and help us get through a situation like this. I'm really grateful that there are other things that I can do besides playing music."05:35 "Where my attention is focused has been in teaching. I've had students who have shown improvement beyond what I thought they would show, because I think psychologically they depend on these lessons as feeling that they can actually express themselves, which does my heart good, too."10:13 "I think it's important for everyone to remain nimble, and flexible, and adaptable. This is survival now. No one knows what the future is going to bring. Going back to normal may not ever happen. So what we have to do is face the fact that with so much uncertainty, we can only take a day at a time and make it the best we can."12:20 "I really hope that people can learn to adapt. When technology goes bad, you can't get ticked off about it. You have to just roll with it. And that's kind of where we're at right now with everything. We have to learn how to roll with everything. I understand frustration levels and everything, but this is just a fresh set of challenges. So be patient with it and work through it."17:37 "I've gotten rid of nearly half of my stuff, either throwing it away or bagging it up and getting it ready to donate. And realized in doing that, that's a real metaphor for how I want to be in every aspect of my life, but especially in in business. Moving forward, I want to be agile. I want to be able to go in whatever direction that I need to go in, in order to contribute to the world but also to contribute to my own well-being, my own evolving."18:57 "Regardless of which of my hats I'm wearing, I have spiral notebooks, and I'm taking notes on everything." 21:48 "One thing that I've always done is, I put everything in my phone. I put everything in my calendar. I think all of this prioritization, and note taking, and reinforcing ideas that you have, is really critical to us as we go forward in this digital age. We can't space out on things. People depend on us too much."24:29 "It's really important to stay focused as much as you can. Let yourself go every once in a while, and dive into a movie or a TV show and decompress, but when you're on guard, be focused. Be focused - not fearful, but focused."28:06 "When I see questions on job applications and stuff, 'Where do you see yourself in five years?' I just look at that and I go, oh, that's adorable. Because that probably was a great question to have, maybe 20 years ago, but it's so outdated now. The honest answer is, I don't know."28:52 "With the unknown, you can choose to be afraid about what's unknown, or you can choose to embrace what the possibilities are. And I think it's great to reflect on the past, but you can't live there. And if you cling too hard to what has happened, and the way things used to be, and all of that stuff you are… you're condemned to be stuck there. And I truly believe that my favorite gig is definitely the next one. I've had some wonderful experiences, but I'm excited about what the future holds."29:38 "I love all of the different things that I get to do. But I think it's important to take time for yourself."32:38 About revenue streams and bartering: "Look around and see what you need help with. And if you have a service that you can provide to somebody else who can help you, then allow that to happen."37:16 "The French horn sort of chose me."40:14 "I think more than anything right now, because I'm not playing to earn money, when I play I play because I love it. And I play to explore music that I love. It’s not for anyone else, it's for me."42:15 "When this first started, I think everybody was just - was and still is - we're all thrown into all of this uncertainty. And I was thinking, what can I control? Well, I can control what goes in and out of my body, and I can control how I treat my body. If you don't feed your body good pure food right now, your brain is not going to respond very well, and right now you need your wits about you."43:51: "Be open to learning. Don't be afraid to say 'I don't know how to do this.' But make it your business to learn how to do it. Just be prepared. Don't ever stop learning because with that learning comes growth, and comes so many opportunities."--Connect with me through your favorite platform: https://pods.link/aardvarkgirl

Andrea Kremer is the queen of stories. From anecdotes with her former NFL Films mentor and boss, Steve Sabol to advice from her former NBC Sunday Night Football broadcast partner, John Madden, Kremer is a master storyteller. She's engaging, witty and has seen it all in her storied career. It's no wonder TV Guide named her, one of the 10 greatest female sportscasters of all time. Kremer's versatility is unmatched. She tirelessly juggles roles as NFL Network chief correspondent, NFL analyst for Amazon Prime's Thursday Night Football, co-host for 'We Need to Talk' on CBS Sports, HBO Real Sports correspondent, and professor of practice at Boston University. And these are just her current gigs. In this in-depth conversation Kremer discusses her career of firsts- as the first female producer at NFL Films; first female correspondent at ESPN; and first all-female broadcast team to call an NFL game. She shares the initial apprehension that came with that Amazon Prime pitch and why she always joked at ESPN, she was John Walsh's ‘greatest draft pick.'Kremer gets real on the double standard that still exist for female sports journalists and explains how she forged a multi-faceted career in sports, during a time when very few female examples existed. She offers her advice for broadcasters new to calling remote games, describes the significance of the Pete Rozelle radio-television award and her induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.To keep up with Andrea Kremer on social media, follow:Twitter: Andrea_Kremer

In the second episode of the Julius Profiles podcast, the hilarious Haley Uzelac and Krista Stucchio from GoDaddy discuss the challenge of wearing multiple hats as marketers. People often think, “Those people on the influencer team are just going to go find the influencers and get them to do stuff for us because that’s what we need them to do.” But there’s a lot that goes into it.Influencer marketing is not just about finding the person that’s creating that sexy content – it’s finding the people who are going to be able to tell your story and engaging them in a more meaningful way. You have to ensure you align with their creative brand as well as aligning them with yours. And beyond choosing the right people and building that all-important relationship, there are so many other hats an influencer marketer has to wear: strategic, creative, educational, production, analytical, empathetic, account management, community management, and legal. It’s a great discussion and both Haley and Krista have tons of insights to share about influencer marketing and how they manage to wear multiple hats throughout the day to get the job done. For all this and more, take a listen!Key Points From This Episode: • Influencer marketing – something different every day• The many different “hats” a marketer has to wear• The two phases of every influencer marketing campaign: the strategic and the executional• The skills you need to be successful at influencer marketing and social media• Balancing work and responsibilities with content creation• The importance of carving out some “me time”• Haley and Krista’s hopes and dreams for the future• Advice for prospective influencers that are trying to make it• And much more! About our guests:Philly-raised, now New York City-based, GoDaddy’s Talent Desk & Social Media Influencer Lead, Haley Uzelac (@HaleyUzelac), knew that marketing was her calling as early on as high school. From working in media right out of college, she found it was not necessarily her passion, and when asked what her passion was at the time, it was her blog www.hopefullymuzing.com. Working on her blog as a “side hustle,” Haley then began to see the impact of influencers and word-of-mouth marketing, so she decided to explore career opportunities in the field. This led her to the influencer marketing department at an agency, strategizing and executing different influencer plans across a wide range of clients. In June of 2018, Haley accepted the position to build out the influencer marketing department at GoDaddy. Now with an Instagram following of 7.2K+ and updating her blog frequently, Haley is able to see both sides of influencer marketing: the brand side, and the influencer side.GoDaddy’s Social Media & Content Manager, Krista Stucchio (@kstucchio), is Long Island, NY born and Bucks County, PA grown. Shortly after graduating from the University of Maryland with a journalism degree, she moved to the Greater New York City area where she landed roles in marketing and social media. Krista is a social media enthusiast and foodie with a passion for photography. You can typically find her scrolling through Instagram, eating just about anything or with camera in hand. Krista could not be happier being part of the newly established and rapidly growing GoDaddy brand social team. When she’s not sharing stories about rising entrepreneurs, she’s being one herself. Outside of the office, Krista is a photographer and runs a food-focused Instagram called @hashtagfoodpic. Her plate is always full, both literally and figuratively, and she’s continuously hungry for success.

He's added nearly 30 books since then, including the New York Times bestsellers The Element and Finding Your Element (both with Ken Robinson) and national bestsellers Blue (fantasy), When You Went Away, The Journey Home and Anything (romance) and Leaves (women's fiction). Host Patricia McLinn talks with Lou about working on both sides of the desk and how he overcomes the hurdles of being a male romance novelist.  In Lou's words (on becoming an author): "It was really easy for me to say 'yeah, some other time'... [But] if I don't do it now... if I just go and get another job, then it's never going to happen. So that's really why I just decided to do it then." Join online groups related to your craft. Offer (solicited) criticisms. Request criticism Solicit feedback from past clients Ask after more than the work itself (e.g. how communicative was I? What would the client prefer I do differently?) You can do this with non-clients do, but if you do it with friends, offer them anonymity (e.g. a google document or a typeform) Regularly produce work related to your craft. Regularly try to improve your craft. Stay up-to-date in your field Sign up for newsletters Follow influencers    Freelance FAQ: How do you deal with being a jack of all trades?   Your focus should remain on your field or primary skill, but to succeed as a freelancer, you need to learn about business, marketing, and quite a few fields that overlap with your own. The two best pieces of advice for needing to work outside of your specific skill set is this: Keep it as simple as possible Don’t invest the time and anxiety until you’re ready to address the issue My advice for the two skillsets every freelancer needs are below: Marketing: Reaching out to potential clients and building steady work should be your foremost concern Business and Finances: Calculate your minimal hourly rate and never dip below it. If you have a lot of work, charge your next client more. Keep doing this until you get push back. One of your first investments into your business should be invoicing or contract software. Bonsai is a great place to start. Finally, if you have some affinity for it, educate yourself on fields that overlap with yours as soon as possible. This elevates the value of your primary skill while increasing your overall value. E.g. Design + Copywriting / Coding E.g. Writing + Design / Coding / Marketing E.g. Development + Writing / Design / Front end or back end You don’t need fancy tools or expensive courses to succeed, but you do need to invest the time. Specifically, you need to invest it wisely. Focus on skills that promise the biggest, most immediate returns, and work the rest out from there. --  Questions? Episode ideas? Talk to Clients From Hell or Bryce Bladon on Twitter.
