After two planes struck New York City's World Trade Center on September 11 2001, Tania Head was one of the lucky few who managed to escape from above the impact zone of the South Tower. Saved by lauded 9/11 hero Welles Crowther, Tania's incredible and heartbreaking story of survival became an inspiration. Triumphing through trauma, she became the face of a support group called The Survivors' Network. Yet, as Tania's fame grew, she became uncharacteristically anxious. Here is a story of courage and heroism from the September 11th attacks. This is the story of Welles Crowther, the red bandanna man. Even the hard-core reporters were having a hard time talking about it. Apparently, that Ground Zero Museum where the Twin Towers once stood is one powerful experience. As you walk in, you hear the last "I love you" messages people sent from the towers or from the doomed planes. It's a heart-rending walk through this nation's darkest hour I guess, and the heroism and hope that lit up that darkness. Like the man President Obama spoke about at the dedication service. After the wingtip of a hijacked plane sliced through the 78th floor, a group of people were huddling together in the Elevator Sky Lobby, waiting for help. Then they heard the voice. "I found the stairs - follow me!" It was Welles Crowther, a 24-year-old equities trader, whose trademark was the red bandanna he had carried in his pocket since he was a boy. With a woman on his back and a red bandanna in his hand, he led the group to a stairwell. He gave one woman a fire extinguisher, told the group to stay together and go on down the stairs, and they made it out. But Welles didn't go with them. No, he went back upstairs to help others. That's when another woman, badly injured, saw this man with a red bandanna over his nose and mouth, running across the lobby. He led them to an obscure staircase and then went back for others. Then the tower came down. They found Welles Crowther's body six months later. His red bandanna is on display in the museum. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You about "Our Own Ground Zero." His father was there at the dedication, and his words actually touched a pretty deep chord in me. He said, "I don't think for a moment he was thinking about his own safety. He was thinking about the lives of all those people. Welles' last hour was his legacy." Just like my hero. His last hour was on a cross where He bled out His life to save people who otherwise would have died. I'm one of them. All of us whose sins were paid for on that day were His legacy. The Bible tells us in Revelation 1:5 that "Jesus loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood." And then in our word for today from the Word of God, in Galatians 1:4 it says, "He gave himself to rescue us." Jesus came where I was one day and He said, "Hey, I have the way out. Follow Me." Following Him saved my life and saved my soul. Me and the millions who have accepted His invitation, "Follow Me." There's one stop in the Ground Zero Museum that is reportedly one of the most moving. I know I'd be spending some time there. It's that cross. The construction worker who found those girders in the shape of a cross said, "My one goal was to find someone alive. I didn't. But I found the cross." The rubble cavern where it was found came to be known as "God's House" to those hope-starved workers at Ground Zero. It was a Ground Zero chaplain who brought the hope found there right into my hope-hungry life and yours. He said, "When the ground is shaking all around you, find your cross and your Ground Zero." I did. It's the ground that never moves. It's the Love I'll never lose. It's Jesus. Who you find when you go to the cross where He died for you and say, "Jesus, this is for me." If you never have, I invite you to find your way to the safe place, and I would love to help you do that. That's what our website is there for. Would you go there? It's ANewStory.com. It's time to say, "Jesus, I'm yours" and be welcomed into the safety of the Son of God, who died for you.

Today marks the 21st anniversary of the September 11th attacks on the United States. More than 3,000 Americans were murdered that day by terrorists. But countless lives were also survived thanks to first responders and everyday people who stepped up. Amid the chaos following the destruction of the World Trade Center, one man, wearing a red bandana, was memorialized as a hero after he sprang into action to help his fellow New Yorkers. Welles Crowther was working in the Twin Towers when the tragedy occurred, and he chose to go back into the South Tower to rescue survivors stuck on the 78th-floor sky lobby. He sacrificed his own life after 12 strangers that day and became known as the 'Man In The Red Bandana.' Earlier this week, Welles' mother, Alison Crowther, joined the FOX News Rundown host Dave Anthony to share his heroic legacy, the story behind his famous red bandana, and why she hopes that sharing his story today continues to keep him alive. Alison's story was heartbreaking, but also incredibly inspiring. Due to time limitations, we could not include all of the conversations in our original segment. On the FOX News Rundown Extra, you will hear our entire conversation with Alison Crowther and learn even more about her heroic son and how he continues to change lives after his death. In the old Westerns, they said the hero was the guy in the white hat. Well, in the life-or-death moments of September 11, 2001, it was the man with the red bandana. A red bandana had been Welles Crowther's trademark, I guess, since he was a boy. He still carried one even when he was a 24-year-old equities trader in the South Tower of the World Trade Center. And he had it on that fateful September day when the tower was in flames. Ling Young will never forget the man that she called "the man with the red bandana." She was sitting, bloody, dazed, waiting with others for help in the Elevator Sky Lobby. That was on the 78th floor where the second hijacked plane had sliced through the tower, and that's where she was. She said, "All of a sudden I heard a gentleman come out of the corner saying, 'I found the stairs. Follow me.'" The man was carrying a woman on his back, and he had a red bandana in his hand. After leading the group to a stairwell and giving them a fire extinguisher, he disappeared back up the stairs to help some other people. That was the last time she saw him, and she said, "He's been on my mind every day." I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Love That Could Not Leave You Lost." Judy Wein was in that same Sky Lobby. She was badly injured, and that's when she saw a man with a red bandana over his nose and mouth come running across the room, and he led them to this unseen staircase that would take them to safety. And in her words, "He was the cowboy coming in to save the town." Ling Young is sure that "Without him, I would not be here" she said. "He definitely saved my life." Six months after the towers fell, they found his body in the rubble. I can't read this story without remembering the man who gave His life to save mine, and to save so many others. On the fateful day when He died to rescue me, it was not a red bandana He wore. It was a crown of thorns. He bled red for me. And the way I'll know Him when I see Him is by those awful nail prints in His hands. The scars that will forever declare how much my sin cost and how deeply He loves me and you. Our word for today from the Word of God is Isaiah 49:15-16. He tells me, "I will not forget you! I have engraved you on the palms of My hands." See, I'm not alone in my desperate need for a spiritual rescuer. We all sit in the darkness, the danger of being away from our God. We're all away from Him. We're on the edge of being swept into an awful eternity after our last heartbeat, because we've run our own lives. We've hijacked our life from God. It's His life, and we took it. We've said, "God, I'll do it my way instead of your way." And the only way to pay for that is to pay the penalty for an eternity in hell. But here comes Jesus with His hand extended saying, "I have made a way out. Come on, follow Me!" Our eternal destiny depends on whether or not we do follow Him. He said, "Whoever believes in the Son" - that's the Son of God - "has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life" (John 3:36). That's the crossroads we all come to - it's the crossroads to which God might be bringing you today, "What will you do with Jesus, My Son, who gave His life for you?" God asks. The crown of thorns, the nails in His hands and feet, the spear in His side, the separation from God the Father Himself, all for you because of your sin and because of His love for you. Today, as He reaches out His hand your direction, are you going to grab it or are you going to walk away? This could be the day you settle your eternity and trade in that hell for His heaven. Reach out and grab Him and say, "Jesus, I'm pinning all my hopes on You to be my Rescuer." Listen, you want to know more about this? Go to our website today - ANewStory.com. Welles Crowther's father said, "His last hour was his legacy." Well, Jesus' last hour, when He was on that cross and chose to be cut off from God so we would never have to be, that was His legacy. And with a very full heart, I can tell you, I'm part of that legacy, and you can be too.

In today's episode, we talked about the tragic events that took place 20 years ago on September 11, 2001. On this day, 2,977 people were killed and it would of had been more if it wasn't for the heroic act of Nyack native, Welles Crowther. He was a man who worked on the 104th floor of the South Tower as an American equities trader. On that day, he put on his trademark red bandana and went to work. In which he saved 18 people, but sadly lost his own. Here is the story of that day and of the man who is a hero. “My business should be for my life. My life should not be my business.” Matthew Weiss is a Lawyer who graduated from Hofstra Law School in 1984. He’s one of Hofstra Law School graduates who landed a job in New York State Court of Appeals — New York’s highest court. Weiss co-founded Weiss & Associates, a law firm focused on vehicle and traffic law. Despite being a lawyer, he then became a filmmaker. He’s like anybody else who got a perfect career but still wanted to do something they are more passionate about. Matthew tried to make more time for himself and not just for the business. After talking to a banker friend, he then found himself wanting to film the story of Welles Crowther, the man who saved ten lives when the 9/11 attack happened. He fell in love with filmmaking. He filmed and produced Welles Crowther’s story titled Man In Red Bandana, which took him six years to film & produce the documentary without even having exceptional knowledge about filmmaking. “If you’re interested in sharing stories, make sure you’re passionate about it. Make sure you do it because you want people to hear the story, not because you’re making money.” It’s always that passion of wanting to share stories that make someone contented and happy, not just the mere idea of money. Most successful people follow their passion and money just comes as a bonus. If money is your gauge why you’ll do what you want to do, once you see no figures coming your way, you’ll stumble and eventually give up. It is important to start but begin with the right purpose & clear vision. “Continue being involved with a higher purpose. Things that will outlive you that is bigger than you and I guarantee you, you won’t regret it, and it will make you a happier person.” There is always a purpose why we live. We weren’t born by accident. And as we come to know what that bigger purpose is, continue to live it out and learn from it as people learn from you as well. Nothing is more fulfilling than being passionate and happy about what you do. It’s a hundred times better than forcing ourselves to do something that produces a significant amount of money but does not make us happy. In this interview, Matthew shared how important it is to live according to your passion and purpose. Matthew’s story is inspirational and this episode is definitely worth a listen! How did you guide your team through the grief of losing their friend? The best thing I did was put down my boundaries and let them know how much I loved them. I gave them the latitude to grieve how they wanted. I didn't make them conform. I was able to just guide them enough; and they helped me, too. Did you like hearing the story behind the movie? "He wasn't trapped, he chose to stay and help others." Matthew Weiss, Esq. was a lawyer. He didn't seek an opportunity to become a filmmaker; but a story that needed to be told found him. The story of Welles Crowther was shared with him over lunch one day: On September 11, 2001, Welles was 24 and worked in the World Trade Center. The acts of heroism he displayed that day have inspired song lyrics, parents to name their children after him and President Obama's dedication speech for the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. Matt created the documentary Man in Red Bandana to inspire the world to be more selfless. Today, Matt shares about the heroic final hour of Welles's life + how we can learn to live more inspired through the example of the "man in the red bandana." He spent his time and money turning Welles story into a film so the world might learn to be more selfless. Matt is an entrepreneur and is inspired by entrepreneurs like Elon Musk [Tesla], Jeff Bezos [Amazon] & Simon Sineck [Start with Why]. On Sept. 11, 2001, Welles put out fires, carried a woman down 17 flights of stairs, went back up + saved the lives of 18 people. 10,000+ people ran / left the building. It's incredible he stayed. "He wasn't trapped, he chose stay and to help others." 9/11 was his finest hour, but he spent his life putting others first. This story will inspire people to be more selfless. "Even just small acts like holding the door open for someone behind you; wait a little longer and hold the door open for them." No one who knew him was surprised that he stayed to help others. Welles's parents + the Michigan foundation created the Red Bandana Project in his honor. MATTHEW WEISS'S LIVE INSPIRED 7 1. What is the best book you’ve ever read? The E Myth, by Michael Gerber. 2.
