Episode #151 - This WONDERFUL WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH WEDNESDAY, we proudly celebrate amazing women. Women's History Month is an annual declared month that highlights the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society. It is celebrated during March in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, corresponding with International Women's Day on March 8, and during October in Canada, corresponding with the celebration of Persons Day on October 18. The commemoration began in 1978 as "Women's History day" in Sonoma County California, and was championed by Gerda Lerner and the National Women's History Alliance to be recognized as a national week (1980) and then month (1987) in the United States, spreading internationally after that. In 1987, after being petitioned by the National Women's History Project, Congress passed Pub. L. 100-9 which designated the month of March 1987 as Women's History Month. Between 1988 and 1994, Congress passed additional resolutions requesting and authorizing the President to proclaim March of each year as Women's History Month. Since 1988, U.S. presidents have issued annual proclamations designating the month of March as Women's History Month. Did you know women couldn't get their own credit cards until 1974? EPISODE #147 – This WONDERFUL BLACK HISTORY WEDNESDAY, we talk about BLACK HISTORY MONTH. Today we focus on the basics such as themes, questions about general small facts. Famous quotes from famous people. Starting next week, we'll focus on people then and now and how we contribute to America and the world. WHY DOES BLACK HISTORY MONTH EXIST? The answer lies with eminent American historian Carter G. Woodson (called the father of black history), who pioneered the field of African American studies in the early 20th century. Inspired by having attended a three-week national celebration of the 50th anniversary of emancipation in 1915, Woodson joined four others in founding the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History (ASNLH) to encourage scholars to engage in the intensive study of the Black past, a subject that had long been sorely neglected by academia and in U.S. schools. In 1916 Woodson began editing the association's principal scholarly publication, The Journal of Negro History. In 1924, spurred on by Woodson, his college fraternity, Omega Psi Phi, introduced Negro History and Literature Week. Two years later, determined to bring greater attention to African American history, Woodson and the ASNLH launched Negro History Week in February 1926. WHY IS BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATED IN FEBRUARY? February is the birth month of two figures who loom large in the Black past: U.S. President Abraham Lincoln (born February 12), who issued the Emancipation Proclamation, and African American abolitionist, author, and orator Frederick Douglass (born February 14). Since the deaths of Lincoln and Douglass (in 1865 and 1895, respectively), the Black community had celebrated their contributions to African American liberation and civil rights on their birthdays. By rooting Negro History Week in February, Woodson sought to both honor the inestimable legacy of Lincoln and Douglass and to expand an already existent celebration of the Black past to include not only the accomplishments of these two great individuals but also the history and achievements of Black people in general. Episode #145 - We talk about THE NUMBER 19. I thought since today is the 19th and my birthday, I'd celebrate my favorite number, which is 19. I first want to shout out three WR in the NFL I am a fan of who all happened to have played in the playoff this past weekend and whose numbers are 19. John Sherman "JuJu" Smith-Schuste (Steelers), Tyshun "Deebo" Samuel Sr (49ers), and Amari Cooper (Cowboys). Now, what's significant about 19? The numerology number 19 is both a starter and a finisher. The essence of 19 is self-determined, primarily focused on itself. While there is attention on the welfare of the human race, 19 determines for itself what should and should not be done for humanity. It's a starter because the digit 1 is a starter. It's a finisher because the digit 9 is a finisher. What 19 starts and finishes generally is determined by itself rather than determined by partnership or group resolution. 19 is often alone. The self-determination has so much force that 19 often feels alone even while interacting with others. The number 19, which is the combining of 10 and 9, usually denotes God's perfect order in regard to his judgment in the Bible. The names Job and Eve, if we substitute letters for numbers, add up to 19. What does the number 19 mean in relation to Israel? The United Kingdom split into two pieces after the death of Solomon. The piece referred to as Israel, or the Northern Ten Tribes, had Jeroboam as their first king (930 to 909 B.C.).Judah's first king was Rehoboam (930 to 913 B.C.). Including Jeroboam, Israel was ruled by nineteen (19) before God allowed them to be conquered by the Assyrians. They were conquered and taken out of the land as captives due to their many sins against the Eternal. Number 19 is an extraordinary number. In ancient times, it was known as the ‘Number of Surrender. The tarot card number 19 is The Sun, associated with happiness, self-confidence, and success. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY? Episode #144 – This WHAT THE WHAT WEDNESDAY, we talk about NOVAK DJOKOVIC & COVID-19 and N95 and KN95 MASKS. Djokovic admits false statement on Australia travel document. The tennis star also said he had participated in an interview and a photo shoot even after testing positive for the coronavirus, in an apparent violation of rules in his native Serbia. In his statement, Mr. Djokovic also addressed questions about the declaration he made on his visa paperwork that he had not traveled to any other countries in the 14 days before arriving in Australia. The paperwork warns of serious penalties for false answers to the question. His declaration had seemed to be contradicted by social media posts showing him traveling between Spain and Serbia. On Wednesday, he said his agent had made an “administrative mistake in picking the incorrect box.” “This was a human error and certainly not deliberate,” he said, adding that his team on Wednesday had “provided additional information to the Australian government to clarify the matter.” WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY? Sharing experiences and advice with other survivors may be helpful. Susan G. Komen has a list of resources for finding local and online support groups. Your health care provider can also tell you how to find a local support group. Susan G. Komencreated the Komen Treatment Assistance Program to help those struggling with the costs of breast cancer treatment by providing financial assistance to eligible individuals. Episode #115 This Manipulative Mind-blowing Monday we talk about Manipulation. What is Manipulation? Manipulation is the exercise of harmful influence over others. People who manipulate others attack their mental and emotional sides to get what they want. The manipulator seeks to create an imbalance of power, and take advantage of a victim to get power, control, benefits, and/or privileges at the expense of the victim. They can happen in close or casual relationships but are more common in closely formed relationships. Manipulator sways someone's emotion to get them to act or feel a certain way. They have common tricks they'll use to make you feel irrational and more likely to give in to their requests. Here's a few common examples: Guilt, Complaining, Comparing, Lying, Denying, Ignorance or innocence, Blame, Mind Games. It can happen in meaning forms including kindness, depending on the intent. Whether manipulation has good or bad intentions, it is still an attempt to undermine your rational thinking. Here are some common traits: They know your weaknesses and how to exploit them. They use your insecurities against you. They convince you to give up something important to you, to make you more dependent on them. If they are successful in their manipulation, they will continue to do so until you are able to get out of the situation. Manipulation of Facts - A manipulator will actively lie to you, make excuses, blame you or strategically share facts about them and withhold other truths. In doing this, they feel they are gaining power over you and gaining intellectual superiority. Gaslighting - This tactic is used by the manipulator to confuse you and make you question your own reality. The manipulation happens when you confront the abuse or lies, and the manipulator tells you that it never happened. Passive-Aggression - Chronic manipulators will use this tactic to make you feel guilty and give backhanded compliments. They are doing this to show anger without directly being angry, make you feel confused. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY? Episode #114 - This Fantastic Fellas Friday- We talk about Senator Richard Blumenthal and the legislature his is sponsoring for Women's Rights. Who is Senator Blumenthal? He was born in Brooklyn, New York and is an American lawyer and politician serving as the senior United States Senator from Connecticut, a seat he has held since 2011. A member of the Democratic Party, he is one of the wealthiest members of the Senate, with a net worth over $100 million. He served as Attorney General of Connecticut from 1991 to 2011. We specifically talk about his introduction of the Women's Health Protection Act and the re-introduction of it. WOMEN'S HEALTH PROTECTION ACT - Sen. Blumenthal, Richard [D-CT] (Introduced 06/08/2021) The Women's Health Protection Act would protect a woman's right to safe and legal abortion by stopping restrictive regulations and laws--such as those in place in states including Texas and Wisconsin--intended to curtail reproductive health services for women. This legislation would prohibit laws that impose burdensome requirements on access to reproductive health services such as requiring doctors to perform tests and procedures that doctors have deemed unnecessary or preventing doctors from prescribing and dispensing medication as is medically appropriate. Other examples of laws that make it more difficult for a woman to access an abortion include restrictions on medical training for future abortion providers, requirements concerning the physical layout of clinics where abortions are performed and forced waiting periods for patients. He and other legislatures are sponsoring it AGAIN on a federal level. Listen to what they are saying. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY? Episode #113 – On this Wonderful Women Wednesday we talk about Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough and how she can affect immigration reform and DACA. Who is Elizabeth MacDonough? In 2015, Elizabeth highlighted budget rules that made it more difficult for Senate Republicans to repeal the Affordable Care Act, former President Barack Obama's signature health care policy. Democrats reported that on July 21, 2017, the Senate Parliamentarian ruled that a number of provisions of the Republican Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA) violate the Byrd Rule, and thus cannot be passed by the Senate using the reconciliation act procedure through which Congress has been trying to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA). In February 2021, she ruled against the $15 minimum wage in President Biden proposed Covid-19 relief package being included per the Byrd Rule under budget reconciliation. In April,2021, she ruled that Democrats can pass spending legislature with a simple majority using a procedure reserved for budget reconciliation, but as we know, Kristen and Joe Arizona and West Virginia Senators, won't agree on anything. Episode #112 This Men Meddling Monday references the Texas State Senate, which consists of 67% men and less than 35% women. Meddling men passing laws that affects a woman's body. Earlier this year, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed into law Senate Bill 8, which took effect on Sept. 1, 2021. The law outlaw's abortion around six weeks of gestation, even in cases of rape and incest. The ACLU of Texas and partners are currently in the process of legally challenging this unconstitutional law. The Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution provides a fundamental "right to privacy" that protects a pregnant woman's liberty to choose whether or not to have an abortion. Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113 (1973), was a landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in which the Court ruled that the Constitution of the United States protects a pregnant woman's liberty to choose to have an abortion without excessive government restriction. It struck down many U.S. federal and state abortion laws, and prompted an ongoing national debate in the United States about whether and to what extent abortion should be legal, who should decide the legality of abortion, what methods the Supreme Court should use in constitutional adjudication, and what the role of religious and moral views in the political sphere should be. Roe v. Wade reshaped American politics, dividing much of the United States into abortion rights and anti-abortion movements, while activating grassroots movements on both sides. In Attorney General Garland's press conference, he says TEXAS GIVE $10,000 BOUNTY HUNTER FEES FOR THOSE TURNING YOU IN. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY? She was a high school senior while participating in the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo. At one point while preparing for the Olympics she wanted to quit during quarantine – Team USA is glad she didn't. She is proudly part of the Hmong American community, and they are very proud of her. Now, she is taking on two more challenges and opportunities. She' s a freshman at Auburn University and also will be on the 30th Season of Dancing with the Stars. According to National Alliance on Mental Illness (“NAMI”) mental illness is a condition that starts young. 50% of mental health conditions begin by age 14 and 75% by age 24. The American Hospital Association (“AHA”) is the national organization that represents and serves all types of hospitals, health care networks, and their patients and communities. Nearly 5,000 hospitals, health care systems, networks, other providers of care and 43,000 individual members come together to form the AHA. Imagine how this Pandemic is affecting these workers mental health. We just had the 20th Anniversary of 9/11 and many victims, and their families are dealing with mental health issues 20 years later. As a fan of the 19-year-old singing superstar Billie Eilish, I found a song regarding mental illness she did in 2011 at the age of 14 on YouTube called Six Feet Under. I also found a video dated May 4, 2020, by a young lady named Odra Chapman and the title of the video says Covid-19 Pandemic Mental Health Awareness Song Acoustic Title is - Win or Lose. Episode #108 - This Special Saturday Episode, as we celebrate JUNETEENTH, I play a song by Goodie Mob entitled Free (remix). In 1863 during American Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which ended slavery. However, it took TEXAS two years later, when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865, to announce slavery was abolished. On June 17, 2021, it became the 11th federal holiday, and bill signed by President Biden. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY? Episode #107 - This Marvelous MEMORIAL DAY Motivating Monday, as we celebrate Memoria Day, we open with a little of Billy Ray Cyrus song Some Gave All. When go on to discuss evolving to challenge ourselves. Evolve is defined as develop gradually, especially from a simple to a more complex form. Challenge is defined as an objection or query as to the truth of something, often with an implicit demand for proof. Before we talk about today's history, I want to thank every military veteran and current personnel for keeping our country safe – THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! I also thank their families for sharing their heroes with us – We Are Grateful. Unfortunately, this 2021 Memorial Day also is the 100 Year Anniversary in America of the Burning of Greenwood (outside of Tulsa) Oklahoma known as Black Wall Street on May 31 and June 1, 1921. Also called the Tulsa Race Massacre, is said to be one of the single worst incident(s) of racial violence in American history. Destroying more than 35 square blocks of the district at the time the wealthiest Black community in America. It is funny because it is so hard for me to say United States of America because we are not a United country. Thank you @VonnettaLWest for your inspiring teaching. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY? We play audio from his newly released powerful video/song entitled “Protect Our Women.” Born Frazier Othel Thompson III - Trae Tha Truth (or simply Trae), is an American rapper, songwriter, record executive and activist from Houston, Texas. Embarking on a musical career in 1998, he soon established himself as a prominent member of the Texas hip hop scene. In 2008, Trae Tha Truth was awarded by the Mayor of Houston, Bill White, and Council Member Peter Brown with his own day, Trae Day, in honor of his outstanding work within the community. This is the first time the honor has been extended to a rap artist. Trae Day is celebrated every year on July 22. On May 23, 2021, Houston's own, Mrs. Tina Knowles Lawson (Beyonce's mother) presents him with the Change Maker Award at the Billboard Music Awards. The award, according to Billboard, pays tribute to “the artist or group that speaks truth to power through their music, celebrity, and community. They are socially conscious, politically aware, active in their community and charitable with time, money and/or influence to improve the lives of others.” During Hurricane Harvey in September of 2017 Trae and his friends, dubbed the "Relief Gang", spent a full day driving trucks and SUVs around the Houston area helping get residents to safety. They worked in Beaumont, Winnie, Kingwood, and Cleveland Texas - all areas where flooding was severe. In October of 2017 Trae hosted a fundraiser for a Houston area grandma attacked and carjacked at a gas station.
