The honest bookkeeper, the faithful wife, the earnest scholar get little of our attention compared to the embezzler, the tramp, the cheat." - John Steinbeck On this episode of the Ordinary Extraordinary Cemetery podcast, Jennie and Dianne share the tragic story of a Ida Mae Hanson, a Nebraska woman who followed her heart to Colorado where she was brutally murdered and left in an abandoned prospector's pit as if she were nothing more than trash in the summer of 1933. Joining them later in the episode is actress Meredith Bolthouse who is currently portraying Curley's wife in a theatrical presentation of John Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men". While Ida Mae really lived and Curley's wife is fictitious, both are Ordinary Extraordinary women whose stories were taken for granted by the two men who should have loved and protected them above all others.Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck runs April 25-27, 2025 in Castle Pines, Colorado. https://frontrangetheatre.ludus.com/index.php?sections=events&widget=1 View this episode on YouTube: Special thanks to Beth Vaughn for the photos of the Hanson Family graves located in Stromsburg Cemetery in Stromsburg, Nebraska.Resources used to research this episode include:Various documents/records via www.ancestry.com"Jury Selected in Neal Case." Research: Red Light Therapy via the Brain & Gut For Reduced Stress, Methylene Blue to Reduce Mortality, and a New Regulatory Study on C60

The Red Light Report

How effective is red light therapy for reducing stress when you irradiate both your brain and your gut?Can methylene blue reduce mortality in those critically ill?How safe and effect is C60 according to a recent toxicity report? In today's solosode, we're diving back into the research! And it ended up being a sheer coincidence that we're covering each topic of The Mitochondrial Triad. The first article looks at how beneficial photobiomodulation can be for reducing stress when you target both the brain and the gut to enhance mental health via the gut-brain axis. The second article is an abstract of a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials that demonstrates the efficacy and safety of methylene blue for critically ill individuals and perioperative patients. The last study comes from our friends at SES Research where they are studying the toxicity of carbon 60 to verify its safety and efficacy. With C60 being such a new supplement for human consumption, SES Research is going through the necessary and proper steps to demonstrate the safety of this novel and seemingly beneficial molecule. Hopefully, studies like this will help C60 become more widely adopted so that more people can benefit from it. If you found the information in today's episode particularly interesting and/or compelling, please share it with a family member, friend, colleague and/or anyone that you think could benefit and be illuminated by this knowledge. Australia requires much more legal clarity when it comes to making decisions in the best interests of critically ill and dying children, argues one author and academic. In this episode of The Lawyers Weekly Show, host Jerome Doraisamy speaks with Melbourne Law School honorary research fellow Dr James Cameron, who has authored a new book, Critically Ill Children and the Law: Medical Decision-making and the Best Interests Principle, about the various gaps in the law when it comes to making decisions in the best interests of sick children, the challenges this presents for both parents and medical practitioners, and various examples of how this can play out in practice. Cameron also details the extent to which change might be on the horizon, the legislative and regulatory changes that are urgently needed, how to determine what is reasonable in the current climate post-pandemic, and his proposed framework to address the legal challenges and gaps currently being witnessed in the medical system. Numerous Population Pharmacokinetic (PopPK) models have been developed for Piperacillin (PIP), most of which are based on small monocentric studies and may not be generalizable to other populations. A recent evaluation of six PIP models in 30 ICU patients receiving CI demonstrated large inter-model variability regarding predictability. The transferability of these results to other populations is uncertain due to the limited number of patients and the monocentric setting. Furthermore, a clinically oriented model assessment in conjunction with TDM (Bayesian forecasting) was lacking. A recent study aimed to evaluate the predictive performance of available PIP PopPK models with and without TDM using an external multicenter dataset to facilitate model selection for MIPD in critically ill patients. Listen to the podcast and learn more about the methodology and findings of this study.
