In this episode Ian Lewis interviews Megan Hunter to explore the dynamics of being an internal or external consultant to an organization and modelling psychological safety while doing psychological health and safety. It seems intuitive but one needs to be reminded organizations need to have pre-requisite trust and psychological safety to do the work required to gather, disclose, and contextualize their data. They also go on a short rabbit trail about why Canadians often begin events and episodes with a land acknowledgment and honour indigenous people.

We discuss their latest album Necromanteum, if he revisits the back catalog on a regular basis, the album fan's love that he isn't sold on, the therapy of heavy music for the band and fans, the importance of looking for a deeper meaning in all art, if he feels fan's are loyal to any streaming services, his thoughts on if film has lost the battle of being art, the honor code bands and fans have in the music industry not reflecting those that run it, companies with the most power continually running at a loss, and why unionizing the music industry may not be possible in modern times. Interview by Kris PetersFor nearly two decades metal outfit Carnifex have managed to push themselves musically further which each release.Although fitting snuggly into their chosen extreme metal genre, the band have also experimented both within and outside of the conventional parameters of their music, peeling back layers while simultaneously structuring new passages along the way. With their ninth full length studio album Necromanteum set to be unleashed on October 6, Carnifex have tapped into another realm both musically and thematically, exploring the supernatural and sordid tales of nightmares and inner conflict unlike ever before. It is much less introspective and personal than their previous offering Graveyard Confessions, with orchestrations and atmospheric landscapes drafted into the sonic landscape to create a sense of foreboding lyrically to match the musical output.Frontman Scott Ian Lewis joined HEAVY to explore Necromanteum even further."I'm pretty stoked," he smiled when asked about the new album. "I'm excited to get the full record out there. I know we've got a couple of singles, but I'm still a whole record kind of guy so getting the record out to the fans is really what I look forward to the most"We ask Lewis to dive deeper into the musical nature of Necromanteum."It's a bit different to the last one," he measured. "I think a big part of it is we've got a new member - Neal, our new guitarist - so we wrote this album as a five piece, compared to writing Graveside Confessions as a four piece. We were able to work with an outside studio. We worked with Jason Suecof at Auto Hammer out in Florida and we also worked with an outside... I guess composer is the word for all the orchestral arrangements, which we had never done that before. And then lyrically and kind of the themes of the music are pretty different. It's a much more outward looking record. Kind of more universal themes compared to the last album which was very inward looking and kind of more of a self assesment, where this one is an assessment of the space that we all share."In the full interview, Scott talks more about the musical side of the album, the singles released and how they reflect the album as a whole, having Tom Barber from Chelsea Grin guest on Death's Forgotten Children, the central themes throughout the album, what sort of research he did, the pros and cons of self producing an album, Neal and what he brings to Carnifex, using an actual orchestral arrangement, their upcoming tour and more.
Join Scott Ian Lewis and I as we talk about the bands upcoming album, Necromanteum, and how the idea that there were rooms dedicated with communicating with the dead to gain their knowledge and delve into our experiences with death, and what it has taught us. Scott talks about working at a funeral home, how it allowed him to see how people deal with grief in various ways, how he was on the path to become a mortician and much more in this chat with the Carnifex frontman. This time on Code WACK! This Independence Day we're thinking about freedom to pursue our dreams. The high cost of health care makes it difficult or impossible for Americans to afford higher education, or retirement, and the impact on business is severe too, as employers struggle to afford health care for their workers. Thirteen years after the Affordable Care Act passed, health care in America is still marked by inequity and spiraling costs. Could single payer free us to pursue our dreams of financial security and independence? To find out, join Ian Lewis, political & research director at the National Union of Healthcare Workers, and a board member of California's Office of Health Care Affordability.

Health care in America remains marked by disparities and spiraling costs twelve years after passage of the Affordable Care Act. Given the divisive political climate in Washington DC, states are struggling to work out their own solutions. Governor Gavin Newsom's Healthy California for All Commission studied the problem for two years and released an eye-opening report detailing how single payer would save 40,000 lives and half a trillion dollars over the next decade while supporting equal access to care. But how would this plan affect businesses and employees? To find out, join Ian Lewis, political & research director at the National Union of Healthcare Workers, and host Brenda Gazzar for this second of two podcasts on the challenges and benefits of transitioning to single payer.

My second Ambush Bodcast and it just made sense to complete the set and go with the other member of the dynamic duo of the Talking Dads, Ian Lewis. After a couple of technical difficulties, we got rolling and talked about The Dads' latest episode #107, which dealt with the mental health side of parenting. We addressed the 3 pillars of Not My Dad Bod: Family, Fitness, and the Grind. I got Ian's take on how he is Being Something Better and Doing Cool Shit, as well. This Ambush went longer than I had planned, but it was a great time. The Talking DadsThe Talking Dads on FacebookThe Talking Dads on IGIan on Instagram

The undisputed masters of blackened deathcore CARNIFEX have returned to ignite sonic memories of albums past with the scorch of old school sound with their new album Graveside Confessions to be released on 3rd September via Nuclear BlastGRAVESIDE CONFESSIONS arose just in time to aid in celebrating the 15 year anniversary of the debut CARNIFEX album, DEAD IN MY ARMS. The band revisited their first album to re-record 3 songs, but now with huge advancements in production technology. A return to their roots, these songs act as the completion of a circle; a return to where things first began. The Everblack Podcast caught up with Scott Ian Lewis to talk about the new Carnifex album Graveside Confessions and the concept behind the title, working with Mick Kenney from Anaal Nathrakh on the mix and master, re-recording classic tracks for the new album, his thoughts on the loss of Joey Jordison and his influence on them, their upcoming tour with The Black Dahlia Murder and more!Carnifex - ‘Graveside Confessions' is out September 3rd via Nuclear BlastPhysical Pre Sale link: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/cd-carnifex-graveside-confessions-cd iTunes Pre Sale: https://music.apple.com/au/album/graveside-confessions/1574158302***EVERBLACK PODCAST***SUBSCRIBE and STREAM HERE: https://linktr.ee/EverblackPodcastwww.everblack.com.auwww.facebook.com/Everblackmedia Thanks to : Deathwish Hotrods & KustomsRW Promotion Blacklight AD Screenprinting Electric WitchEverblack intro theme by Jaymes Jackson
Scott Ian Lewis of Carnifex returns to the Talk Toomey Podcast to discuss the latest album, Graveside Confessions. Scott also talks about the re-records they did for the album and having fun digging back into the old tunes. We go over their Korn cover and the influence that Nu Metal has had on the Deathcore Scene. Carnifex is one of the few bands that has completed tours since the country has started to open back up and he tells us about record attendance and merch sales. He also talks about his writing process and his insane notebooks. Overall, great time with Scott.
We are joined by frontman Scott Ian Lewis of San Diego based deathcore outfit, Carnifex. In this episode, we get the opportunity to talk about their upcoming 8th album “Graveside Confessions” and how the live concert experience is always something Scott took to heart. Now in the middle of touring cycles, this is right where they belong; What makes Carnifex really stand out from that deathcore scene is the live presence they display on stage, and it is a thing of beauty. Even then, Scott explains how it is still important to keep an eye out for any health concerns while being on the road during a pandemic - and so far, so good. We also dive into his interests in film and writing, as Scott takes us through his personal experiences in his 54-page graphic novel titled “Death Dreamer.” So much to explore than what is seen on the surface. Being a writer serves as an extension of who he is and it has been a vessel of escapism where he can put plenty of his other talents on display. From being a frontman vocalist, to an author – the level of creativity and vision remains at a constant for Scott and Carnifex. Tune in now to this episode and be sure to buy and stream the highly-anticipated new album from this monstrous deathcore band in Carnifex, titled “Graveside Confessions,” unleashing September 3rd via Nuclear Blast Records.Stay connected with Carnifex, visit: http://www.carnifexmetal.com/, https://www.facebook.com/CarnifexMetal, and https://www.instagram.com/Carnifex/Stay connected with IUF, visit: https://interviewunderfire.com/

Google’s own Billy Jacobson joins hosts Mark Mandel and Mark Mirchandani this week to dive deeper into Cloud Bigtable. Bigtable is Google’s petabyte scale, fully managed, NoSQL database. Billy elaborates on what projects Bigtable works best with, like time-series data user analytics, and why it’s such a great tool. It offers huge scalability with the benefits of a managed system, and it’s flexible and easily customized so users can turn on and off the pieces they need. Later, we learn about other programs that are compatible with Bigtable, such as JanusGraph, Open TSDB, and GeoMesa. Bigtable also supports the API for HBase, an open-source project similar to Bigtable. Because of this, it’s easy for HBase users to move to Bigtable, and the Bigtable community has access to many open source libraries. Billy also talks more about the nine clients available, and when customers might want to use Bigtable instead of, or in conjunction with, other Google services such as Spanner and BigQuery. If you haven't heard my first interview with Ian, peep episode number #3 of this podcast. yup. you heard (err...read) that right. my third podcast ever was with this man. he had just returned from coaching basketball in bangkok. and now we're in chiang mai. life is a mind fuck. Ian came back out to Thailand on a new life adventure and we were able to chop it up on my rooftop. Ian shares how he was on the fast track to getting a Masters and being a teacher. until he jumped into those philly schools! man, i wish i could explain what that shit is actually like. i have so much more respect for teachers now. when you in the trenches, it’s too real. makes me reflect on those nearly two years going to war everyday. life is so different now. i truly can’t explain it. if you’re thinking of taking a leap of faith, no matter what it is, i can’t encourage you enough to do it. this podcast episode was an absolute blast. we chop it up about Ian coming face to face with a King Cobra, getting punched in the face and then escaping from some thugs at a night club in Bangkok, and his decision to make a career pivot to become a visual storyteller/modern philosopher. yeah. we take it everywhere on this one. appreciate my man coming out all the way from Philly. i think it opened his eyes to the way i’m living out here, and we had an absolute blast. Scott Ian Lewis, lead singer for deathcore mainstays Carnifex, guests this week. In our in-depth exclusive interview we talk about their new record, Slow Death (out next month on Nuclear Blast), what it takes to make it in the music business, leaving a label that wasn't a good fit for the band, taking a hiatus to try and regroup, and being able to survive the pitfalls of constant touring. Plus, Lewis talks about his songwriting strategies, the financial burden of touring musicians, and much more. We talk about the new Thy Art Is Murder EP and we try and make sense of why a band would continue with a singer or a member who already left the band. When a member decides that it's time to move on to different things, why would a band even bother to put out music featuring that member? It's one thing if a member dies, but if they just want to do something else does it make sense to release new material with them on it? Or is that just longing for times that have already passed and teasing fans about something they can never have? We also talk about the tragedies last week related to cops killing black civilians and the deaths of five police officers in Dallas. Perhaps this wasn't the most appropriate time for Godless to introduce his son to Body Count. Songs: Carnifex – "Six Feet Closer to Hell" Thy Art Is Murder – "They Will Know Another"
Scott Lewis of Carnifex calls in this week and we get into their new album, touring and the history of the band. It was nice to talk some death metal. This week on the show we were joined by two of the fantastic team at Giant Margarita, based in Tasmania, and making the cracker new game Party Golf. Dr Ian Lewis and Adam Zulkifly joined us today to talk about their "seconds to shouting" metric, designing a game perfect for parties and securing state government funding. You can check out their game at www.partygolfgame.com, and pick up the game on Playstation 4 and PC later in the year. Developer Tiny Build revealed this week that gaming key reseller G2A had sold approximately US$450,000 of their games. While many of the users who use this site are selling legitimately purchased in bundle a small number of people have been selling a large number of keys which in some cases have been purchased with stolen credit cards. We talk about the impact this has on developers, gamers, and the expectations on those sitting in the middle. With gaming media expanding beyond the older mastheads, and the push from game developers to get their games in front of as many people as they can. Reddit user NYstate proposed unplugging from the games media cycle when new games come out, in order to preserve that experience. How do developers balance providing enough information to gamers without giving away too much and what happens when fans share too much of your game? Dr Ian Lewis speaks to ecancer.tv about a recent initiative where patients contribute to assessment of funding bids submitted to Tenovus. Following a survey carried out in Tenovus stores across England and Wales asking what customers thought should be the priorities of Tenovus funding, a panel was set up consisting of patients, carers and other people who have been affected by cancer. Dr Lewis discusses how the panel has successfully assessed clinical trial funding bids and explains how the project will be improved and expanded in the future.
We were honored to speak with bass player and founding member Ian Lewis from the Inner Circle Band and he tells us the stories of coming up in Jamaica alongside other talented musicians. Ian expresses some of the overall frustration from various icons towards the younger generation who don't spend enough time learning the roots of reggae music. Inner Circle has worked with many international artists and at their base 'Circle House Studios' have belted out or engineered Grammy winning records covering EVERY genre. In their effort to save the future of authentic reggae music, Inner Circle has not missed a step, just check all social media sites and the tracks below.
