In 1992, Hurricane Andrew ravaged South Florida. Prior to the hurricane, bassist Danny Lore was playing in the punk band Grover Snatch. But the hurricane caused some members to move away. Rather than replace them, he decided to start a new ska influenced punk band: Against All Authority. For months they practiced acoustically--there was no power in South Miami for a while. And as the band got going, they booked their own shows at the Kitchen Club in Coconut Grove. No one else would. Besides, being punk meant being an active participant in the scene. Today we talk to three members of South Florida political punk-ska band Against All Authority, whose records Destroy What Destroys You and All Fall Down are absolute classics. We walk through their entire entire career, get to the bottom of just what makes these guys tick, and find out why punk and ska are so important to them. We talk about 80s punk venue Cameo Theater (Same club that Cannibal Corpse played in the Ace Ventura Pet Detective), early rejected band names, their 1968 school bus that broke down at least 10 times on tour, and their legal battles with American Automobile Association. We also discuss issues with their labels, why they broke up in 2007 and what led to them reforming 15 years later. They also tell us a bizarre story that involves killer monkeys that escaped from a nearby laboratory! Support the show

On a very special episode, Dan got the chance to do the first interview with the Multiversity: Teen Justice creative team. Multiversity: Teen Justice follows Earth-11's team of teenage-adjacent heroes as they make their way into the world of heroism and their journeys to learn who they are. The team has the breakout star of last years Pride and Future State events, Kid Quick AKA Jess Chambers! This is one of many projects coming out for this year's DC Pride. Danny and Ivan chat about Kid Quick, the importance of making comics reflect the identities of the real world, and so much more. The word redacted gets tossed around a lot but this interview gives a deeper insight into the upcoming Teen Justice's first series. Be sure to check it out and let your comic shop know to add this to your pull list. If you want to know where to find more of Kid Quick, check out Cass's piece about their importance to them with some other stories you'll want to check out while you wait for this book to hit shelves in June. Be sure to check out last year's DC Pride coverage as well here from our GC52 News team!

Valance Beilert is razor-focused, not so much on serving Lord Vader, but keep Cadeliah safe while T'Onga and Losha's band of bounty hunters -- Zuckuss, Tasu Leech and Bossk -- are striving to make sense of a criminal underworld upended by the return of Crimson Dawn in a taught and action-intense Bounty Hunters #19.In Star Wars Adventures #13, the IDW series' penultimate issue, Rey, Finn, Chewbacca and BB-8 ferry a Resistance asset who's being pursued by a pernicious bounty hunter in the employ of the First Order. The second story, by Danny Lore, is a suspenseful and well-paced narrative of three Jedi Temple caretakers who discover Darth Vader has arrived and is heading for them. Also, giveawaway time! I'm always curious, when were these stories first started as an idea, then scripted, and then finally finished? Can you walk us through the timeline a bit?Memoria is a story our heroes are an old and sick detective and a young burnout detective, why are these types of detectives well suited for your story? The art by Sundando C and colors by Mark Dale add a level of realism we don't often see in detective stories of any kind (movies, comics), can you talk a little bit about the approach with the art and textures?Whenever a serial killer story pops up I ponder, did the writer research every serial killer ever? How much research went into Memoria? The quotes in the back of each issue feel almost like clues for the reader, as if we should read it and ponder its significance to the story itself, is that the case or did you use these for a different effect? For what it's worth, loved seeing a Blood Meridian quote at the end of issue #3.The solicit text calls this TRUE DETECTIVE meets LETHAL WEAPON Curious if you could comment on your opinion of True Detective and Lethal Weapon?Do you have a favorite DAVID FINCHER film? How do you approach writing dialogue? I noticed in the Memoria #1 advance copy, the slang is subtle, but it's there.Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou's lettering is something else with memoria, with no border on the word balloons, and ballons sort of gliding past each other never touching, were there prompts as far as lettering ideas? What was the process like?As someone who reads a lot of comics, I was curious if there are any specific comics you're reading right now that you're enjoying? With YOUTH currently in development with Amazon Studios is there anything you can talk about in regards to its development?

This episode has been a long time in the making. Even aside from the hiatus we took after Episode 17, this topic is one we had originally planned to do for Episode 5, however covid lockdown kept us from doing the episode as we'd originally intended, But it's finally here: our episode on horror comic adaptations! As longtime comic book fans, this is a topic we've been eager to do since the earliest days of our podcast. And we honestly couldn't be happier with how this episode turned out, particularly thanks to our wonderful guests. For the first movie in the episode, Nick chose Wes Craven's adaptation of Swamp Thing, and we were lucky enough to have comic writer Ram V (These Savage Shores, The Many Deaths of Laila Starr and current writer of Swamp Thing) join us to talk about it! For the second movie, Jake chose the first installment of the Blade series from 1998, where we were joined by the fabulous writer Danny Lore (Champions, Queen of Bad Dreams, Lunar Room and an upcoming Blade one-shot)! The third movie in the lineup is Brian Yuzna's adaptation of the rather notorious horror comic Faust: Love of the Damned. And lastly, we were joined by our longtime friend and fellow comic lover Bil White, who chose Guillermo Del Toro's adaptation of Hellboy as the fourth and final movie. We truly hope you enjoy the episode, and we cannot thank our special guests enough for their time and the wonderful conversations. After you've listened to the episode, please check out their work and websites listed below: https://www.ram-v.com/ https://dannylore.com/ And as always, thanks so much for listening! CW: the movie and source material for Faust: Love of the Damned contain plot points involving sexual assault, which are discussed in the review. TIMECODES: Swamp Thing = 00:08:41 Blade = 01:30:59 Faust: Love of the Damned = 03:29:00 Hellboy = 05:24:41

Danny's also been busy cooking up an original werewolf and supernatural comic Lunar Room. In this great conversation, we get into why some characters have to be reclaimed, what it means to see people as both good and evil, and so much more.Find Danny on Twitter at: @weredawgzLearn more about Danny at: https://dannylore.com/And make sure to check out Danny's last appearance on the pod: Episode 45

New Book Tuesday: March 10th Edition My March watch list exploded. This isn't really a surprise, it's me we're talking about here. So to keep up with my reading goals and help you add to your TBR pile, Ro Recommends is now a permanent segment on I Talk Sh*t & Read. Welcome to New Book Tuesday: March 10th Edition. Twice a month, I'll share my "must reads" from the month's new releases. First up are some fantasy picks that may just satisfy that jones you've got for sibling rivalry, arranged marriages gone awry, first love, revenge, or a dangerous quest...or two. Historical Fantasy: Reincarnation and Reimagining history make intriguing entry points into magical worlds and dangerous journeys with questionable guides. Young Adult Fantasy Fairytales and Mythology in an urban fantasy setting. Chupeco's world-building style takes a bit of getting used to, there's always more to learn but the journey's ended up being worth it in the past. Think you maybe up for discovering if a dethroned Prince can return magic and save his kingdom? High Fantasy Anne Bishop returns to the Black Jewel saga and doesn't miss a step. If you're already down this rabbit hole then the eleventh installment is certain to shake things up. I hit the highlights in my audio review but simply put Bishop found a new gear to shift into that promises interesting times ahead. Short on Time? How About an Anthology: Synopsis: Filled with stories of love and betrayal, strength and resistance, this collection contains an array of complex and true-to-life characters in which you cannot help but see yourself reflected. Witches and scientists, sisters and lovers, priestesses and rebels: the heroines of A Phoenix First Must Burn shine brightly. You will never forget them. Authors include: Elizabeth Acevedo, Amerie, Dhonielle Clayton, Jalissa Corrie, Somaiya Daud, Charlotte Davis, Alaya Dawn Johnson, Justina Ireland, Danny Lore, L.L. McKinney, Danielle Paige, Rebecca Roanhorse, Karen Strong, Ashley Woodfolk, and Ibi Zoboi. Enough Said. We're back for Season 3! We kick the season off with a great comic Queen of Bad Dreams by Danny Lore. Queen of Bad Dreams is set in a reality where certain people known as psychics can manifest entities from their dreams into reality. The story follows Inspector Judge Daher, a law enforcement agent as she tracks down a woman who manifested from the dreams of the son of a powerful politician. Werewolves are one of the most beloved monsters in horror but also one of, if not the, hardest to bring to reality. But it's generally agreed that John Landis and Rick Baker did it best with An American Werewolf in London. Comic writers, Vita Ayala and Danny Lore, join host, Dany Roth, to talk about the invisible otherness of being a werewolf and how they would adapt the werewolf classic to today.

We welcome comic creator Kelly Brack to the show to first help us remember Jim Henson in this week’s Retro Roundtable. Caroll Spinney just retired from playing Big Bird after nearly 50 years, so we not only look at how he brought the character to life, but we also look at the many other amazing accomplishments Jim Henson and his studio have under their belt. Their work is truly inspiring and masterful. Then we turn our attention to Kelly and talk about his project Death Of The Horror Anthology. DEATH OF THE HORROR ANTHOLOGY is a compilation of terrifying short stories from some of the most talented and twisted minds in comics. Curated by Kelly Brack, edited by Danny Lore and published by A Wave Blue World, this book is 176 pages of horrifying tales! Each story will follow the theme of INNER DEMONS.
