The 6 Pitfalls: Safety and Best Practices for Ayahuasca Facilitators in Non-Traditional Contexts | Jeronimo M.M. ~ ATTMind 174

This episode features Jeronimo MM of ICEERS Foundation and explores the potential dangers and pitfalls present for ayahuasca/plant medicine facilitators in non-traditional contexts. Dangers specific to the facilitators, that Jeronimo refers to as The 6 Pitfalls: Sex, Money, Power, Intercultural Relationships, and Legal Situations. We also do a deep dive into what a “non-traditional context” is and two potential harms that might come up for participants, namely “when the experience is too much” and “Ayahuasca told me that…” To use Jeronimo's words from the interview you are about to hear, this episode explores “How to avoid harming people who have put themselves under your care” We welcome Jeronimo back to Adventures Through The Mind for his fourth feature. His previous episodes were a dedicated interview on the complexity of the ongoing mainstreaming of psychedelics and the others were psychedelic cafes on how to protect from corporate influence and bad actors in the psychedelic scene, and the importance of ethnopharmacology for the future of humanity. If you are a plant medicine facilitator of any kind or know facilitators, this episode is definitely for you. However, this episode will be relevant to anyone interested in participating in any kind of plant medicine ceremony. As the dangers presented, facilitators are also dangers present to participants under those facilitators' care. Having a sense of what they are in advance empowers your capacity to better navigate the often murky world of underground facilitation. ... Importantly, this episode is a vignette into a portion of the 6-month course Jeronimo is putting on through ICEERS titled Increasing the Safety of Ayahuasca Sessions: A harm reduction course for facilitators in non-traditional contexts. The course begins on May 8 and the admission process ends on April 27. Meaning there is little time left to sign up, if you feel called to do so. WHAT IS THE EVOLUTIONARY ROLE OF PSILOCYBIN IN LIFE ON THIS PLANET? This is both an explicit question and an implicit guiding inquiry in the discussion you will hear on this episode Adventures Through The Mind. Our guest is Jahan Khamsehzadeh, PhD. He is the author of The Psilocybin Connection: Psychedelics, the Transformation of Consciousness, and Evolution of the Planet—An Integral Approach. Together we have a conversation that waves in and out from the microscopic to the cosmological. We explore topics such as the role fungi have played and continue to play in the evolution and existence of life on this planet; how psilocybin may have assisted in the development of human consciousness; the role psychedelics can play in cultivating a strong, but healthy ego; why taking heroic doses is not the best way to heal or learn and it may actually hurt you; why an understanding of psychedelics requires us to transcend reductionism and materialism; and more. *** FULL TOPICS BREAKDOWN BELOW** ... Dr. Darcia Narvaez joins us on Adventures Through The Mind to explore how early life experiences shape our morality and culture in adulthood and the kind of early life that leads to human thriving—what she calls The Evolved Nest. We also explore the impact 10,000 years of unnested children is having on our psychology, our morality, and our civilization as a whole; how early life nesting experiences lead to what Narvaez's calls Cycled Of Cooperative Companionship; and how the undercare of being unnested leads to Cycles Of Competitive Detachment—the cycle most of us are locked into now, a cycle that is definably unhuman.  Furthermore, we explore what it means and what it takes to break that competitive detachment cycle and come back into healthy connection with ourselves, each other, and the natural world. James W. Jesso is the author of Decomposing The Shadow: Lessons From The Psilocybin Mushroom and the host of the Adventures Through The Mind podcast. “My primary goal with Adventures Through The Mind is to explore psychedelic culture, research, and medicine. However, attached to that primary goal is a secondary goal: supporting the personal and cultural integration of psychedelic experiences in a functional and healthy way. I move towards that goal by exploring the psychedelic field with a curiosity for immediate and valuable relevance to a person's lived life. The psychedelic experience really shines when we find a way to integrate what we've learned from it into our daily lives. My desire to help that with that integration on a personal and cultural level is why I make Adventures Through The Mind.” His work is inspired by his healing path through depression, substance abuse, and trauma, and focuses on translating the profound insights of the psychedelic experience into a higher quality of life, for both the individual and society. - - - - -SUPPORT THIS PODCAST & VLOG- - - - - ► Become A Member: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCv_MsYFGi-RHrNajHqqUJ6A/join ► Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/thenakedguruexperiencepodcast ► TIP JAR: paypal.me/thenakedguru - - - - - WEBSITE, SOCIAL & OTHER PROJECTS- - - - - ► Website: https://www.thenakedguruexperience.com ► Sharing Circles: https://www.rememebringourself.com ► Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thenakedguruexperience ► Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/672595846495678/ - - - - - LINKS- - - - - ► James Jesso Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/DiscoveringAgape --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thenakedguruexperience/support

This episode covers what you need to know about psychedelics and their therapeutic benefit. I sat down with James Jesso - a man who is well-equipped to discuss psychedelics and their benefits. He shares advice about how to approach psychedelic experiences, for new and experienced practitioners. James has been investigating, researching, and exploring the realm of psychedelics professionally for the past 7 years. He is the author of three books, “Decomposing the Shadow,” “Soundscapes and Psychedelics,” and “The True Light of Darkness,” which cover topics about working with Psilocybin mushrooms for personal development, healing, and spirituality. He is also the host of the podcast, “Adventures Through The Mind.” What do you need to know about psychedelics? In this episode, we delve into discussing psychedelic basics and the details surrounding the psychedelic revolution happening around the world. Plant medicine is becoming increasingly popular and people are awakening to their benefits, but psychedelic experiences still require a measured approach. In this episode we cover: “The Psychedelic Renaissance” - how psychedelics-as-medicine are entering the mainstream consciousness. The criminalization of cannabis - the United States’ role in this movement’s relation to racism and oppression. The shift in consciousness regarding cannabis and how that conversation relates to psychedelics. The various ways people are trying to intentionally engage in psychedelic experiences as a way to seek healing and personal growth - and the prevalence of underground healing circles. How prohibitionist rhetoric causes more harm than good. Where do beginners start? Questions to ask when invited to an ayahuasca ceremony. The challenge confronting our deepest wounds - it’s normal to be scared. Why it can be beneficial, especially as beginners, to experience psychedelics with people you trust. Every person has a different reason for wanting to do psychedelics - the way in which we go about the experience depends on who you are as a person. Intentions and expectations - their role in psychedelic experiences. Tips for preparation and how to show up in a psychedelic experience. The immense value and importance of integration and how to debrief what occurred after a psychedelic experience. The difference between telling a story vs. actively utilizing the opportunity a psychedelic experience gives you. Party atmospheres and shifting how to approach psychedelics. Fear based “bad trips” - how they hold people back from exploring, how and why they may happen, and their unfair representation in the media. Discomfort and pain during a psychedelic experience. Why you should go into it expecting it. Other resources James has created in regard to micro-dosing, psychedelics, and more. James W. Jesso is a Canadian-born author, public speaker, educator, storyteller, podcast host and psychonaut. His work is inspired by his healing path through depression, substance abuse, and trauma, and focuses on translating the profound insights of the psychedelic experience into a higher quality of life, for both the individual and society. Since 2011 he’s delivered more than one hundred public speaking events spanning across eleven different countries. His two books, 'Decomposing The Shadow' and 'The True Light Of Darkness', present a model for working with the ‘magic’ psilocybin mushroom as an ally in personal transformation and developing psycho-spiritual maturity. His articles, essays, interviews and lectures go far beyond just the psychedelic experience covering topics such as psychology, relationships, spirituality, consciousness, sexuality, nutrition and brain health. His ‘Adventures Through The Mind’ podcast and youtube channel, is an effort to contribute to the psychedelic culture at large. Featuring interviews with luminaries in science, art, and culture across a range of disciplines, this platform expands his work into a more broad exploration of progressive social developments, and the potential role psychedelics might play within them.   00:00 Trailer 00:30 Introduction 02:20 James’ early life 03:30 James on what he was like as a child 05:50 Processing early childhood experiences 09:50 James on his aspirations 12:20 When did things in James’ life begin to change? 21:30 How would James describe a psychedelic experience to someone that’s never had one? 22:00 James’ most positive experience 24:40 How was James perceiving reality before vs after? 28:10 James on his worldview 29:05 The mainstream perception of psychedelics 36:00 In what way would the world be different if everyone had a psychedelic experience? 42:00 James’ thoughts on the term ‘God’ 43:50 Advice James would give to anyone looking to self-fund their work 47:20 James on his purpose 50:20 James’ thoughts on death 54:50 James on the meaning of life 58:30 James on his legacy 1:00:00 James’ vision for his brand 1:04:00 James on his Fox News interview 1:07:10 How does James define success? 1:09:30 Best piece of advice 1:10:20 Speaking to 20 year old self 1:10:50 Changing the world   You can find James at: https://www.jameswjesso.com/ https://www.facebook.com/jameswjesso https://twitter.com/jameswjesso https://www.instagram.com/jameswjesso/ https://www.youtube.com/c/AdventuresThroughTheMind https://www.reddit.com/r/ATTMindPodcast/

Furthermore, he takes a deep look at the actual legitimacy of psychedelic 'healing', and its potential dangers insofar as false dawn syndrome, spiritual bypassing, and entity attachment or possession. Despite how far out these topics may seem, I don't doubt you will find some deeply grounded and practical perspective in this interview, especially in regards to the modern ayahuasca-healing movements   ~~~ To read the full blog entry for this episode and/or watch this episode in video: http://bit.ly/ATTMind86 ***An important Update regarding problematic claim made against Guenther*** ------------------------------------- SUPPORT THE SHOW

A central topic of this podcast is our capacity to change our minds. I don't mean superficially – "Oh, actually yeah let's go see that movie instead." I mean a more fundamental change, our faculty for shifting our very sense of self and perception of the world around us. This type of change is not just an ethereal alteration of mental processes, but an actual redesigning of neural architecture. Our capacity to create such fundamental changes is due to our brain's ability to redesign its structure, lay new synaptic connections, which is called neuroplasticity. [This episode was originally released as "The Neurobiology Of Altered Traits"] The guest for this episode of the podcast is here to tell us how we can change our brains to change our lives and why it works. Welcome to Adventures Through The Mind, world renown neuroplasticity expert, Dr Rick Hanson. Rick Hanson is a psychologist, Senior Fellow of the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley, and New York Times best-selling author. His books are available in 26 languages and include Hardwiring Happiness, Buddha’s Brain, Just One Thing, and Mother Nurture. He’s been an invited speaker at NASA, Oxford, Stanford, Harvard, and other major universities, and taught in meditation centres worldwide. His work has been featured on the BBC, CBS, and NPR, and now he is here with us on Adventures Through The Mind. What is Consciousness? Is it unique to human cognition or is it universal and permeating all things? Is it an epiphenomenon of brain activity or a universal constant?
