In today's episode of The Cinematic Schematic, we're entering the world of assassins living underneath the high table with Keanu Reeves in our review of John Wick Chapter 4. From our John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum review, Alexandra Bohannon, a former co-host of Sound Trek, rejoins Caleb Masters and Laron Chapman to weigh in on John Wick's latest vengeful globetrotting rampage. This week, we break the ice by taking a look at the late John Wick: Chapter 4 co-star, Lance Reddick. The beloved character actor was not only a pillar of the Destiny video game community but also had prominent roles in many of the TV best series of the last two decades including The Wire, Fringe, and a variety of other genre series. We then jump into our spoiler-free review where we provide our overall verdict on this entry. We conclude the show in a spoiler section by begging the question, “how much longer can this action franchise keep going?” Special Guest Alexandra Bohannon Writer and former host of Sound Trek About John Wick: Chapter 4 John Wick uncovers a path to defeating The High Table. Thirteen years ago, James Cameron, the acclaimed director of Titanic, Terminator 1 & 2, The Abyss, and Aliens, released his most ambitious passion project yet – Avatar(2009), a film featuring the fictional alien race named “Na'vi,” set on their home planet of Pandora. Starring relative no-name turned “it” guy, Sam Worthington alongside Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Stephen Lang, and Giovanni Ribisi; the film was praised for its groundbreaking 3D visual effects before becoming the highest-grossing movie of all time($2.9 billion as of this recording). Despite its initial runaway success including the announcement of four sequels(you can track the entire history of those announcements here), the series has since undergone backlash from audiences with some even arguing it lacks meaningful cultural relevance. In preparation for the long-awaited sequel releasing later this week, The Cinematic Schematic is taking a trip back to the planet's tree of souls (AKA Eywa) to determine whether or not the film has earned its status as box office king. Imagine a world where the mind is the scene of the crime inspired by the works of Stanley Kubrick, Ridley Scott's Blade Runner, The Matrix, and James Bond films that captures the best elements of an Oceans Eleven heist. On July 16, 2010, moviegoers were introduced to Inception, writer/director Christopher's Nolan's massive critical and box office hit that propelled him from a talented auteur to one of the most powerful voices working in the film industry today.  With the hype and media buzz of the release now a full decade behind us, how does Inception hold up in 2020? Where does it best fit into the pantheon of Nolan's oeuvre and, perhaps the most hotly debated question related to the film upon release, does the top keep spinning or does it fall?  In today's special episode of The Cinematic Schematic, we're joined by Freaky AF writer/director Laron Chapman, The Cinematropolis‘s Alexandra Bohannon and No Film School‘s Jo Light to take a look back at the critically acclaimed box office hit with an indie spirit, Inception, to determine whether or not the film deserves the status of a blockbuster classic. The title is a mouthful and the movie is a lot, but we have a good time doing our best opening this one up for analysis. We start unofficially getting into the layers in our review section, which then carries over into our Syllabus Expansion and finally business time. We've also got notes from our beloved Alexandra Bohannon who was going to be on this week, until her schedule got shaken up at the last minute. But, prepare us she did. This week, Dalton coins the term "Rainbow Face" to allude to a cisgender and/or heterosexual performer playing outside their identified spectrum. We also get into questions of race, as well as economics. Dustin also spends time analyzing Sheriff Dollard as well. As three cis white men, we know it's not completely in our realm, but we do our best to analyze and discuss To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar. Enjoy!

"The Last of the Starks" attempts to take the show back to its roots while also racing full speed ahead to the show's conclusion. The results are mixed at best, and it's not just because Daenerys Targaryen likes her coffee extra strong. The episode brings back memories of the past in more than one way, and for many viewers, they weren't the good memories. The cast discusses how the greatly accelerated pace is negatively impacting the final season and how some of the more frustrating scenes could be handled in more thoughtful and tasteful ways.  The discussion closes out with Caleb, Austin, Daniel, and Alexandra making final predictions for who will the battle and position themselves to take the Iron Throne.  As the pieces are moved into place for the final battle of the series, the Game of Thrones fantasy league continued to keep everyone (including Austin the two-time dragon murderer) on their toes.   CURRENT FANTASY LEAGUE SCORES Rank Team Points 1. The fat lady is about to sing as we come to a close on our Musical Revue. We wrap up our musical marathon with a look at the 2017 action-heist film, Baby Driver. Wait, is Baby Driver a musical? You'll find out in this week's show. Also, we're joined by a very special guest host, Alexandra Bohannon—who has been doing some work on The Cinematic Schematic. Ride Along with Baby Driver With a killer soundtrack and kinetic energy, Baby Driver is at times everything you'd expect from Edgar Wright, while also being a bit different—at least on the surface. Baby (Ansel Elgort) is a getaway driver. And, he's very good. It's what landed him under the thumb of Doc (Kevin Spacey), who is something of a local crime lord. Doc uses Baby for all of his jobs while switching out the crew—namely a rotation of Buddy (Hamm), Bats (Foxx) and Darling (Eiza González). Baby soon learns that eventually, blood will be on his hands. So, is Baby Driver a musical? This is the big question we tackle this week. We also discuss ragtag families, formalism and Edgar Wright's overarching thematic touchstones. But, that's not all. After our reviews, we drop our Top 3 Killer Tracks. It seemed fitting. Now, hit the gas and press play! Get in Touch! Thanks for joining us for our review and analysis of Baby Driver! If you haven’t yet, you can connect with us through our various means of social media. This week we've packed away our German-made vehicles and have opted for some American motor machines. Dalton Stuart is very excited as we finally look at the movie featuring the character that he was named after, Patrick Swayze's Dalton. We have some division at the table this week. We have three hosts from small towns each of who bring something different to their experience with Road House. This week we kick things off with our our recasting of Road House in honor of the upcoming remake that's coming down the pipe. Arthur is pretty confident he has the contest one, but Caleb swoops in with some otherworldly help. This mostly serves to agitate Dalton. Once skulls have been busted, we move into analysis. Arthur discusses the portrayal of small town life and politics and what that looks like in the movie. Dalton takes a look at the violence of the film and how he believes it subverts the typical violence of the time. This week's Back to the Movies throws us back to 1980s nostalgia once again as we sit down to review the remake(?), reboot(?), redo(?) of Ghostbusters!  Arthur was so excited about this movie that he actually decided to cancel his podcasting career and start busting those ghosts with the Funky Soul Retrievers. Instead, I'm joined again by Alexandra Bohannon from The GoodTrash Genrecast /  The Film Syllabus to discuss whether or not the all women led Ghostbusters delivers another classic. We're no strangers to the Ghostbusters here on GoodTrash Media. Back in the early days of the GoodTrash Genrecast, we even did a full analysis with guest Nick Sanford episode talking marshmallow man and all. The original 1984 Ghostbusters is no doubt a beloved classic by fans. So beloved, in fact, that there's been a very vocal group of fans who have voiced their qualms with an all ladies cast. In this episode, Alexandra and I discuss the importance of women representation on the big screen before getting into the nitty gritty about what does and does not work about the latest take on the Ghostbusters. Is it a remake, reboot, lega-sequel, or something else entirely?Don't miss our in depth review! What did you think of Ghostbusters? Hello again listeners, it's time for one of those rare times of the year when we head to the arthouse cinema. This week we're heading Back to the Movies to check out GoodTrash Media's highly anticipated film The Neon Demon from director Nicolas Winding Refn. This week Arthur takes another break in order to pursue his modeling career which means we had to call in the hosts of The Film Syllabus, Dustin Sells and Alexandra Bohannon, to join this more analysis driven review. We're also joined a first time guest, University of Oklahoma T.A. and aspiring comic book PhD, Kenneth Kimbrough. If you've been a long time listener of the GoodTrash Genrecast, you'll know we're all undeniable Drive apologists. It's pseudo-80s aesthetic, slick soundtrack, and western genre tropes made it an instant GoodTrash essential. Long time listeners will also know the Genrecast wasn't in favor of 2012's Only God Forgives, but we've been anxiously awaiting Refn's next project ever since. After a particularly long hiatus, the director is finally back with The Neon Demon, a film that follows an aspiring young model as she rises in the ranks of the Los Angeles fashion industry. The film stars Elle Fanning and features a supporting cast of Jena Malone, Christina Hendricks, and Keanu Reeves. This is a very spoiler heavy and more analysis driven review, but fear not! We still have a spoiler free review and recommendation before getting really into the weeds about what's going on in this flick. What did you think of Nicolas Winding Refn's latest flick? This week's Back to the Movies takes a break from all of the giant explosions, mutated turtles, and oversaturated CGI fantasy to look at a film that's cut from a different cloth as we look at Swiss Army Man. In this week's discussion, Arthur begins his sabbatical to a deserted island which put The Film Syllabus co-host Alexandra Bohannon back in the co-hosts chair. Also joining us to discuss the madness is friend of the show/local film producer Zachary Burns. If you're not familiar, Swiss Army Man is the story between a suicidal man named Hank (Paul Dano) and his friend Manny(Daniel Radcliffe) who just happens to be a corpse that washed up on shore. The deadCenter 2016 Film Festival has a plethora of options to explore and one subject of interest this year has been LGBTQ representation in Oklahoma. Whether it's through a documentary like An Act of Love or the satirical comedy of Oh Brother! the subject seems to be heavy on the mind of Oklahoma produced films. One of the most anticipated of films of the festival, Heartland, tells the story of a young Oklahoma artist who lands back in her mother’s stifling household after her girlfriend dies. To find solace in her situation she finds a temporary escape in a weekend affair with her brother’s girlfriend. The film was filmed and produced locally in Oklahoma and stars Laura Spencer of Big Bang Theory and Bones fame. Our very own Dustin Sells and Alexandra Bohannon sit down to talk with director Maura Anderson and screenwriter/star Velinda Godfrey. Your hosts talk about the choice of making the film in Oklahoma and how the unique setting impacted the characters and the way the story was told.  Tune in!

Game of Thrones season 6 continues to sail its Greyjoy ships full speed ahead in this week's episode Book of the Stranger. Every minute of this episode is packed tight with some of the very best Game of Thrones and The Cast Beyond the Wall brings the fire and the analysis to this week's particularly eventful episode. This week, the Cast is joined by one the co-founders of GoodTrash Media and host of The Film Syllabus, Alexandra Bohannon. Book of the Stranger featured many crowd pleasing moments, but none as long awaited or emotional as the first Stark Reunion. We laughed, we cried, and somewhere George RR Martin felt a deep disturbance in his source material(probably). At long last, Daniel's dreams of whimsey and Stark victory seemed within grasp right before the rest of the team shuts him down by talking the rather unfortunate demise of Osha at the hands of Ramsey. Austin coins the term "Post-Martinism" as we discuss the unusually optimistic turn of events in nearly every storyline this week. After being MIA for more than five episodes, Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish returns and it looks like he's bringing his army from the Eerie into the fold. After experiencing a moment of uncharacteristic fanboy excited, I discuss what his move could mean for the wars to come. If all of the other heartwarming cheer moments weren't enough for you, Daenerys finally returned to form by reminding us all why she doesn't need dragons, unsullied, or knight's to be the epic leader that has been promised.  Whether its religious zealotry or Game of Thrones failure to the LGBTQ characters, The Cast Beyond the Wall has this an every episode covered. Hollywood is front and center this week on Back to the Movies as Caleb and the GoodTrash gang review the Coen Brothers latest outing, Hail Caesar!. It’s become something for movie goers every time a famous auteur puts out a movie and Joel and Ethan Coen are certainly no exception. They’ve taken on westerns, comedies, dramas, and even musicals. How well does the duo handle their own reflection on Hollywood? The only way the Coen Brothers ever could, with George Clooney of course! Caleb is joined by guest host Dalton Stuart of The People’s History of Film and Alexandra Bohannon of The Film Syllabus fame. The film stars Clooney, Josh Brolin, Alden Ehrenreich, Ralph Fiennes, Scarlet Johanson, Tilda Swinton, Channing Tatum, and a slew of other great character actors. The film follows a day in the life of studio producer Eddie Mannix as he runs set to set to ensure that all of his productions are in line to hit their deadlines and budgets. Things get troublesome for Eddie when the star of his biggest film “Hail Caesar!” is kidnapped from the set and held for ransom. With so much at stake at the studio, Mannix is forced to choose between pursuing a new career, running his studio, or spending time with his family. Like the works of the Coen Brothers, the Back to the Movies discussion is a bit dry, a bit odd, and undeniably charming. Once the review moves into spoilers, things get a bit more analytical as the gang talks about some of the deeper themes at play in the film.Heil Caesar!Review – 3:29Recommendations – 33:43Spoilers– 38:47Like what you hear?
