In a missing persons investigation, the initial hours and days are crucial. Establishing a relationship with the missing person's family, absorbing their behavioural characteristics, and managing media interest in the story are all essential parts of the toolkit for officers charged with finding them alive. But, 27 years ago, when Charlie Hedges MBE was assigned his first missing persons case, such protocols did not exist. He found institutional inertia and complacency where there should have been dedication and service - and set out to right that wrong. In this compelling conversation with Olly, Charlie looks back over his career finding missing people - including Dr David Kelly, April Jones and Ashya King - and reveals the techniques and temperament necessary for the job, especially in these days of internet sleuths and social media speculation. Charlie's book, Missing, is out now, published by Hachette. _______ Meanwhile, in The Zeitgeist, Ollie Peart channels his inner James Martin to kick up a storm in Olly's kitchen: specifically, a five-course meal made entirely using air fryers. With the help of AirFryerGirl and ProCook, Ollie impresses with a delicious molten Camembert and honey-mustard pork - but is frankly rather let down by his raw carrot crisps. Along the way, the boys consider whether the popularity of air fryers will last beyond the cost of living crisis, uncover which tabletop gadgets will become the next kitchen must-haves, and ask why Tiktokers don't provide recipe PDFs… _______ Elsewhere, down the Foxhole, Alix Fox uncovers the trend for ‘CEI' humiliation videos, and assists a Mann-fan whose daughter wants to reject the HPV vaccine - because she's a lesbian. In collaboration with gynaecological cancer charity The Eve Appeal, Alix discovers why the HPV vaccine is important for all young people, regardless of orientation; explains how the virus can be transmitted; and reveals the efficacy of the vaccine and the common myths surrounding it. _______ Finally, we're going hip-hop for our Record of the Month, ‘Passion', from LL COOL J's first album in 11 years, THE FORCE
What does the word “healthy” mean to you? We all have our own opinions of health and wellness based on our own unique experiences. Yet it's essential to have a unified understanding in any workplace that creates a specific culture of wellness. This isn't supposed to be a token effort or Band-Aid treatment. Christ-centered wellness – living fully the way God intended – must become our new employment and employer norm: one that is so effective, it follows workers from the office to the home. And yes, that is possible. Meet Dr. April Jones, a healthcare leader with over 20 years of experience in optimizing and creating innovative processes. As CEO and founder of Storehouse Wellness, she champions a holistic, faith-based approach to health. Dr. Jones spent years in traditional healthcare, where she helped people find the right medications to manage their disease symptoms, created pathways for easier and safer medical journeys, and helped to remove barriers to accessing necessary medication and proper education about these drugs. That's how she came to realize the stark truth that providers don't focus nearly enough on… How to be well without medical intervention. She now leads a premier, integrated, Christ-centered comprehensive wellness solution that removes fragmentation from well-being efforts. Dr. Jones' program has four pillars at its core: nourishment, physical fitness, mental wellness/stress management, and financial health. It seeks to transform mindsets and strengthen internal motivation through a biblical perspective and focus on spiritual relationship. Dr. Jones' firm offers wellness navigation for accountability support and resource coordination, as well as 24/7 chaplaincy. An accomplished consultant, board member, mentor, and coach, she blends hands-on healthcare experience with strategic business acumen. Dr. Jones also authored "No Mess, No Message," a Christian motivational book on overcoming adversity; founded The Drifted Drum Co., a faith-based publishing and events company; and is a sought-after speaker. She holds degrees from Union University, University of Tennessee, University of Memphis, and Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry. ___________ Concerned about the HR programs at your organization? Drs. Stephanie Shelton and Kelly Guyotte at the University of Alabama received a grant for the conference. Put tons of planning and coordination into it and along with invaluable support of April Jones and Carlson Coogler, who are both graduate students here at the University of Alabama. The conference brought an array of scholars to examine culturally sustaining approaches teaching and conducting qualitative research. Our episodes guests today are graduate students in the educational research PhD program at the University of Alabama who are also specializing in qualitative methodologies, and who attended the conference and will and will focus on their experiences from the conference and their process of understanding culturally sustaining pedagogies and their impact. Thank you all for joining us. So we'll start with, we'll start with the first question, which is, I guess kind of obvious. So in, in your opinion, what does culturally sustaining pedagogy mean? Venus Watson 03:21So in my opinion, culturally sustaining pedagogies, their teaching methods that do more than just accept or include a student's cultural backgrounds in the classroom. Paul Andrews had been educated at Boarding school but left school without significant qualifications. His escapade with his friends where he pierced a gas bottle to make a flame thrower ended in disaster when it exploded and put him in hospital for a month hadn't assisted in gaining qualifications.Paul attended Wethersfield for his initial training he was then posted to policing duties in the Colchester district. He went on to serve in Halstead where he loved being a community officer. He was then selected to be a search officer. He went on his search course and in June 2001 he concluded his course and then spent the next 10 months searching for the body of Daniel Jones. During the search he was one of the officers who found a safe concealed in Campbells home that contained images.Whilst searching for Danielle, Paul and the team were searching an area where a box was recovered. Whilst playing pass the parcel with the box it was discovered that they were playing with a viable IED. It was believed this had been left in place by a Combat 18 team.As a mutual aid search officer Paul travelled throughout the UK. He worked on the April Jones murder. Commonwealth games and The Soham Murders “Holly and Jessica”.Paul went on to DVI for Essex Police. During this time paul attended 5 air crashes! Paul discusses challenges with management during searches and difficult managers! In the closing months of his service Paul was seconded to Cornwall to be the POLSA for the G7 conference. At the conclusion of his service, he had no idea how to write a CV and as he had no formal qualifications he was concerned about the future. He applied for job with Colchester City Council and whilst he wasn't successful for that one, he was offered an alternate position.Having taken a role at the council he was asked to lead a project to bring the Knife Angel to Colchester. He enlisted the support of Sir Bob Russell and Anne Oakes Odger. #royalvisit #murder #presidentialvisit #obama #biden #trump #danielejones #search #murder #missingpersons #knifecrime Hosted on Acast. In this very special episode of True Sunlight, we continue our mission of getting the story straight and giving voice to victims. Eric Alan Daume reports from the Blue Ridge mountains of South Carolina and digs into the deaths of April Jones and Kevin Craig, and the disappearance of Faith Roach. There are so many similarities between Eric Alan's investigation into "A Mountain Mystery", the Murdaugh saga and the Solomon case, all cases that need a whole lot of sunlight on them. ** And just a warning, todays episode has some course language and graphic descriptions. Today, Liz Farrell gives a brief update on the new shenanigans in the Murdaugh saga, but we are not going to let their nonsense get in the way of highlighting Eric Alan Daume's investigation into "A Mountain Mystery" and what happened to April Jones, Kevin Craig and others in this in-depth investigation. If you're a Luna Shark Premium Member, you've seen Eric Alan in the trial chats, and on camera. You might recognize some of his footage, which we use to make our own video versions of MMP and TSP episodes. He covered the Murdaugh trial and covers other cases as well on his YouTube channel - click here to learn more: https://www.youtube.com/@Eric-Alan. Eric is an incredibly talented documentarian and we are proud to partner with him by sharing his talents with all of you — our amazing audience. If you listened to this week's COJ you know that Mandy and David are in Europe so Eric Alan's episode allows them to enjoy some time away and it gives me a little much-appreciated downtime as well. In this final episode we're discussing forensic searches: searches for bodies, searches for evidence, searches for criminals. Lynda and Cass focus on the tragic case of April Jones, the 5-year-old who went missing in Wales in 2012. The police search was one of the largest ever mounted. It lasted six months, and though an arrest was made, of Mark Bridger, April's body was never found. In this episode we reunite two forensic search experts who worked in different capacities on this harrowing and challenging case. Julie Roberts is a hugely experienced forensic anthropologist and archaeologist with some 20 years of practitioner experience in the location, recovery and identification of human remains from scenes of crime, war zones and mass fatality incidents. She and her team examined bone fragments that were suspected to be April's, recovered from Mark Bridger's house. Julie is currently Scientific Advisor at Alecto Forensic Services: https://alectoforensics.com/ Peter Faulding is a world-leading confined space rescue and forensic search specialist. Peter has worked on many high-profile missing person and ‘no body' murder investigations including the serial killer Peter Tobin and the mysterious death of MI6 officer Gareth Williams.
