Nutrition Nugget! Bite-sized bonus episodes offer tips, tricks and approachable science. This week, Jenn is talking about Mosh Bars. You've probably seen these bars —they're the ones co-founded by Maria Shriver and her son Patrick Schwarzenegger that promise to fuel your brain AND your body. Sounds pretty amazing, right? Well, Jenn's doing what she does best: reading the label so you don't have to. She's checking out the Peanut Butter Chocolate Crunch flavor because, let's be honest, who wouldn't pick that one first? Jenn's breaking down all those fancy brain ingredients like citicoline and Lions Mane, but she's also keeping it real about what you're actually getting versus what the marketing wants you to believe. Are you really getting enough of the good stuff to make a difference? Is this a breakfast, a snack, or something in between? And what's the deal with all those sweeteners? Tune in to hear Jenn's honest take—no fluff, just the facts you need to decide if Mosh Bars deserve a spot in your pantry! Like what you're hearing? Eating Healthy & Mindful Balance During the Holidays

This episode of The Better Life with Dr Pinkston features Dr Pinkston and Ray Solano from PD Labs, focusing on how to navigate and survive the holidays—dubbed the "Super Bowl of Sugar" (Halloween to Valentine's Day)—without derailing your health goals. The discussion centers on research challenging restrictive dieting, suggesting that unrestricted eating of nutritious food, layered with non-digestible fiber (nuts, seeds, berries) to slow sugar absorption, can offer similar benefits to fasting without the negative effects. Key Takeaways: Mindful Holiday Strategy: The holidays are a time for balance and not gaining weight, rather than focusing intensely on losing it. The Problem with Restriction: Restrictive diets (like extreme keto or carnivore) can backfire psychologically and physically. Research suggests high protein without proper carbohydrates can negatively affect longevity. The "Eat Human" Approach: Focus on a common-sense approach: avoid processed foods, know your intolerances, and aim for a balance of protein, fat, and carbs (suggested ratio: 40% protein, 30% fat, 30% carb) in every meal. Breakfast is Key: Start the day with high protein (40 grams) to stabilize blood sugars, reducing cravings later. Avoid traditional high-carb breakfasts like instant oatmeal. Stay Hydrated & Stress-Free: Managing stress with simple supplements like Magnesium Glycinate and Theanine (or cortisol managers like Triquillata) is crucial, as stress often leads to poor eating choices. Next-Generation Health: Ray Solano introduces PD Labs' work on peptides (like the GLP-1 incretins) and their innovative two-year project to make these high-molecular-weight molecules available transdermally (non-injectable) by Christmas, transforming chronic disease prevention. The conversation emphasizes starting your health recovery journey now, not waiting for a "magical time" in January.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

When signed into law on November 12th, 2025, a bill ironically known as the "Government Shutdown Prevention Act," included language that would all but shut down the multi-billion dollar hemp industry, of which beverages are a major piece. In this bonus episode we dive into seven questions that define what's next for an industry picking itself off the mat, and how consumers might respond. Questions we address include:1) How will the hemp industry, accustomed to playing defense against state legislative banning efforts, shift their focus to going on offense? 2) With November, 2026 as the timetable for the new restrictions, will that allow enough time to lobby the federal government to change course? 3) Will a large number of consumers pursue a medical cannabis card to continue access to products they have become used to buying in traditional retail stores? 4) How might this impact efforts to re-schedule cannabis from a Schedule I controlled substance? 5) Will hemp beverage brands turn to other functional ingredients to try and fill the void? Ashwagandha, l-theanine, Lion's Mane and other nootropics have been promoted for their functional benefits, which aren't nearly as obvious as THC.6) Are unhappy consumers likely to turn their focus toward legalizing recreational cannabis in more states?7) How might this impact the overall non-alcoholic beverage space?Want to comment on our LinkedIn discussion? Also mentioned in this episode:Free Spirits Podcast (interview with HBA's Chris Lackner)Gary Long, Botanical Sciences (past U.S. of N/A episode)We'd love your feedback!

Ayurveda, often referred to as the “science of life,” is one of the world's oldest holistic healing systems, with origins dating back over 5,000 years to ancient India. From understanding the three doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—that govern our physical and emotional states, to the powerful cleansing and rejuvenating process known as Panchakarma. Ayurveda is rooted in harmony between mind, body, and spirit, and it views health as a dynamic balance rather than the mere absence of disease. Can this ancient system continue to offer profound guidance for holistic wellness in the modern world? In this episode, we are joined by Nisha Saini, CHHP. Nisha is the Founder and Director of the award-winning New York Ayurveda & Panchakarma Center in 2006, and is a Certified Holistic Health Practitioner, Ayurvedic Health Counselor, Panchakarma Specialist, and licensed holistic esthetician. In this episode, I explore one of the most fascinating relationships in the body — the gut-brain axis — and how our digestion and mental health are intimately connected. As a clinical herbalist and a practitioner of plant spirit medicine, I've seen how tending the gut can calm the mind, lift the heart, and bring us back into balance. We'll look at the science behind this connection — how the vagus nerve, neurotransmitters, and the gut microbiome shape our mood, focus, and emotional resilience. I'll also share how stress and inflammation disrupt these pathways, and what we can do to restore communication between the gut and brain.

In this episode of Your Natural Dog with Angela Ardolino, Angela and Carter sit down with Dr. Joel Ehrenzweig, veterinarian, researcher, and founder of Veterinary Health Research Centers — to talk about the groundbreaking Senior Dog Study they've been running together for the past year. Dr. Ehrenzweig shares why he shifted from a strictly pharmaceutical approach to fully embracing natural medicine late in his career. Angela, Carter and Dr. Ehrenzweig discuss how the Senior Dog Study is helping to validate what holistic practitioners have known for years: that functional mushrooms and natural adaptogens can potentially make a real difference in cognitive health, quality of life, and emotional connection for senior dogs.If you have an aging pup and have ever been told “there's nothing we can do,” this episode will give you hope, real data, and real-life stories showing that there are options. Learn more about the Senior Dog Study. Episode RecapLaunching the Senior Dog Study – Carter shares how they recruited a diverse group of senior dogs experiencing cognitive decline—many from families who believed they had no options left—then tracked behavior, activity, and sleep to build a data-backed picture of progress over the course of the study. (00:31)Validating Centuries of Natural Medicine – Angela shares how rescuing senior dogs inspired her to prove that natural approaches—real food, hemp, mushrooms, and adaptogens—can help aging pets thrive without relying on pharmaceutical “longevity drugs.” Dr. Ehrenzweig reflects on his shift from a strictly pharmaceutical mindset, describing how client feedback opened his eyes to alternative options and why he was intrigued to join this groundbreaking study. (02:46)Rethinking Canine Cognitive Decline – Dr. Ehrenzweig explains why a CCD diagnosis shouldn't be seen as “the end” for senior dogs, noting that it develops gradually and shares many similarities with human dementia and Alzheimer's. He describes the challenge of studying such a complex condition and the promise of finding better options beyond pharmaceuticals. Dr. Joel expresses hope that demonstrating improvement in dogs could pave the way for better, more natural options for humans facing cognitive decline in the future. (08:10)The Power of Whole-Plant Medicine & Synergy – Angela shares why her mission is to create pure, whole-plant and mushroom formulas rather than isolated compounds, emphasizing that nature's ingredients work best together. Combining adaptogens like Lion's Mane, Reishi, Cordyceps, Ashwagandha, and Bacopa Monnieri creates a synergistic effect—targeting multiple aspects of cognitive decline and delivering the results seen in the Senior Dog Study. (11:55)Measuring the Impact of Mushrooms & Adaptogens on CCD – Carter explains how the synergistic blend of Lion's Mane, Reishi, Cordyceps, Ashwagandha, and Bacopa Monnieri for dogs was designed to address multiple aspects of cognitive decline, from calming the nervous system to supporting neuroprotection and brain oxygenation. To capture these effects, the team used detailed questionnaires and scoring systems to track behaviors like nighttime waking, disorientation, and social engagement—finding that while every dog's response is different, the combination consistently improved quality of life across a wide range of cases.(14:44)Recognizing the First Signs of CCD – Dr. Joel explains that one of the earliest and most telling signs of canine cognitive decline is a shift in sleep patterns—dogs sleeping more during the day, then pacing or appearing restless at night. With wearable collars, pet parents, and researchers, can now track movement and sleep 24/7, giving an objective view of these changes. (20:01)Real-Life Transformations from Mushrooms & Adaptogens – Angela shares moving stories of senior dogs who were scheduled for euthanasia but experienced dramatic turnarounds after starting on these mushrooms & adaptogens—regaining mobility, focus, and connection with their families in just days. Dr. Joel, a seasoned veterinary researcher with over 15 years of experience, admits he had never seen natural ingredients work this quickly and effectively, reinforcing just how extraordinary these study results have been. (26:22)Beyond Anecdotes, Real Evidence from the Senior Dog Study – Carter and Dr. Joel emphasize that the Senior Dog Study is more than just testimonials. By combining real-time collar data that tracks sleep, wake cycles, and activity with caregiver questionnaires and even blood biomarkers like BDNF and CRP, they've created an objective, data-backed picture of how dogs are responding. Dr. Joel notes that even when improvements vary, simply slowing decline can be a meaningful win for families — and in many cases, the results are dramatic, with dogs showing better engagement, calmer behavior, and restored quality of life. Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks…   BM: Hi Dr. Cabral! Would you have any health recommendations (how to help our bodies and especially respiratory system and lungs) for those people (children of 6 years old and adults) who live in areas with constant outdoor air pollution from PM10, PM2.5, Ozone (gases from vehicles, volatile organic compounds)? Specifically, when US AQI ranges from Moderate (51) to Unhealthy (139) and Very Unhealthy (263). We already have indoor air filters with HEPA, keep doors/windows shut, limit being outdoors especially when US AQI is too high.                                                                         Sheena: Hi Dr . C! Thx for taking me question. I'm taking Equilife's Balanced Zinc but live in Canada and currently looking for a comparable one that I can find here. The only one that I found has similar ingredients with zinc traacs biglycinate chelate and copper traacs biglycinate is a thyroid supplement but its also has iodine, ashwaghanda, selenium, l-tyrosine, manganese traacs chelate and bacopa extract (not sure what that is). what are your thoughts on this supplement? anything I should avoid? thanks in advance for answering this and for all that you do!                                                                  Sasha: CBO protocol seems great for any yeast/fungal or bacterial overgrowth. I'm curious how effective it is for people diagnosed with methane SIBO/IMO with archaea and constipated. I have read that allicin is the most effective herb to kill archaea but CBO protocol only has berberine and oregano oil. Wondering if people suffering from methane SIBO should have an additional herbal antimicrobial like allicin added while following the rest of the CBO protocol. Thanks!                                 Anonymous: Hi, I'm wondering about usage of microwaves, I've heard you talk about it on HouseCalls and I understood that microwaving destroys nutrients in food, changes the molecules etc., but asking ChatGPT (and having a long conversation about it), it kept giving me research on how microwaving is actually better than other cooking methods because it supposedly preserves more nutrients, doesn't change the molecular structure of food etc. This made me very confused on the subject.. would you mind explaining what you think based on all this research? Was it paid by manufacturers? If you could dive deep into it and make it into a full episode, that would be great.. Thanks so much for all your work and help!                                                                                                                                                                       Andy: Appreciate you answering questions!
