Quotes from this episode: "If we know that we can also touch into a place that can be revealed to us through stillness and practice. That to me is very hopeful because it becomes an inner resource that we can always go to." "One of the things that happens when we want to look away and pretend it's not happening is that we're not acknowledging this idea that we are all connected." "We actually, as human beings, have to take this respite of rest at some point, whether it's seasonal or whether it's during the day or whether it's because the cycle of the news has carried us to a place where we need to take a moment or a day to rest or more than one or two days. But we have to listen." "Can we, instead of resisting this cold, resisting this time of fallowness, can we welcome the beauty that the snow brings and the cold brings?" "For most of us, I think that has been lost or forgotten or we feel that it's not important. And yet all of the prayers of our ancestors, all of their memories, all of their knowledge is living in our DNA and it's part of who we are." "I can't tell anybody what to do. This is why practice is so important because practice, when we get still and silent and we rest, gives us the answer of what is ours to do." "It really doesn't have to be big, but one little increment of movement in a positive direction can be so helpful." 255 What is our relationship with nature? How do we connect to our roots and our ancestors? Why is all of this important and relevant to yoga? Tracee Stanley (she/her) addresses these questions and shares insights about rituals we can practice to go deeper.

Today our explorer-in-residence is Tracee Stanley, a longtime student and teacher of Yoga and Tantra, and author of Radiant Rest: Yoga Nidra for Deep Relaxation and Awakened Clarity. We've explored rest before on this pod, but not quite like this! When we sit and attempt to let go, what gets in the way? What messages about safety and worthiness are hiding in our nervous system? For Tracee, rest is about sanity, empowerment, and resistance. Resistance to our own self judgements and the pressures of dominant culture. We talk about all of this from a place of rest. To prepare for this week's practice, prep a space where you can get cozy. There is also a short journaling practice, so have a notebook and pen on hand.Tracee's 20 minute deep rest practice begins at 4:03 and ends at 24:03 with lots of juicy, insightful discussion after!Just an extra note: our ambition with the “Mind Bod Adventure Pod,” as Tasha calls it, is to become part of your daily or weekly practice regimen. It is a place to explore a broad understanding of practice – from quieter meditation and movement practices, to more engaged life and work and communication practices. To do this in real-time, together. And then, after, we talk honestly about our own experience, as a way to help you get clearer about yours. In this way, we both connect to helpful practice resources, and we develop more confidence around being our own teachers and mental authorities. The other part of this is exploring what kind of conversation emerges after we do a practice – when we're still influenced by the practice itself, when it is still in our nervous systems, as it were. That's one reason it's important to actually do the practices. They help us see what else might be important. They can change the way we live and relate and listen and communicate. So let's party! And by "party," we mean close our eyes and do practically nothing.Links:• Tracee's website: www.traceeyoga.com• Tracee's Deep Relaxation Course on Commune• Tracee's Yoga Nidra TrainingSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/explorerspod)

We are super excited to introduce today's amazing guest, Tracee Stanley. Tracee was introduced to the practice of yoga nidra in 2001. She immediately recognized it as a healing salve for the world and began to incorporate it into her life and her yoga teaching. She left her high-stress career as a Hollywood film producer to delve deeper into the study of the practices that were empowering and rejuvenating her, so she could share them with others. With over 20 years of experience practice and teaching in the Himalayan Tradition, Tantra and Sri Vidya, she also understands the demands of life as an entrepreneur, wife, and stepmom. Her effortless way of sharing ancient teachings in accessible ways is her superpower. Tracee travels extensively to offer yoga nidra, meditation, self-inquiry, teacher trainings and workshops. RADIANT REST published by Shambhala Publishing is her first book. We had such a fantastic conversation with Tracee. We dove into yoga nidra, the power of rest and what it actually means "to rest." We also heard about Tracee's new book, RADIANT REST, where she offers a ton of tips and strategies to feel a greater sense of stability, peace, and clarity in all aspects of your life. We talk about lack of rest and what kind of affect that can have on both your physical and emotional well-being. We also dove into generational trauma and how different life experiences and histories can influence how we get into a deep relaxed state and let go. Tracee has such a calming voice and presence, you will not want to miss this enlightening conversation. Kicking off this season is the powerful Tracee Stanley, yoga teacher, author and who's new book Radiant Rest: Yoga Nidra for Deep Relaxation & Awakened Clarity, has been a lifeline for me in the last couple months. In the book, Tracee says that rest is our birthright, and when we are able to embrace that - we begin to see how we have been asleep in our lives. It is an essential practice in a moment when dominant culture is telling us to get back to normal and perform being woke. We practice rest so that we can remain awake - awake to the reality of our interdependence and collective survival. Tracee Stanley doesn't want you to fear rest. Stanley is a yoga Nidra lineage holder, meditation and self-inquiry teacher, and co-founder of the Empowered Wisdom Yoga Nidra School. Her new book is Radiant Rest: Yoga Nidra for Deep Relaxation and Awakened Clarity. Be sure to read Stanley's essay, “Embrace the Transition” which appears in the May/June 2021 issue of Spirituality & Health. “We have been out of balance for quite some time, and I think that the pandemics—the multiple pandemics—that we find ourselves in right now, whether it be covid, whether it be racism, whether it be climate crisis … they all to me have a thread of not honoring the divine feminine.” In this episode, Rabbi Rami and Stanley discuss yoga Nidra, “the yoga of sleep,” as it connects to the divine feminine, the earth, and the self. They explore the essentiality of the divine feminine and the return to the mother—and how such a return can offer humanity a “new story.” Later they discuss the necessity of yoga Nidra practice in recognizing the Self, and how the practice allows the expansion of Self in the face of oppression. They close out their conversation with the idea that yoga Nidra is the act of total surrender, that the practice of yoga Nidra is counter-culture to the grind mentality, to trauma, and that it is okay to let go and just rest. “Yoga nidra is this process of completely non-doing and releasing of thought—it's a place of no thought.” Learn more about your ad choices. Joining me today is Tracee Stanley to discuss how her book, "Radiant Rest," and how yoga nidra can help us all rest, restore and feel rejuvenated. We even a yoga nidra meditation during the episode. Enjoy!BIO: I have been studying Yoga and Tantra since 1995. After reading a translation of the Yoga Sutra's in 2000, I went on a quest for teachings that could create more understanding for me around the philosophies and promises of Yoga illuminated by Patanjali in this text. There was one sutra that really resonated with me. I could feel it in my cells. Sutra 1:36.Vishoka Va Jyotishmati, this led me to be initiated into the lineage of the Himalayan Masters and Sri Vidya Tantra and informs all of my teaching. The focus of my teaching today honours life as a ritual and I am devoted to yoga nidra, meditation, self-inquiry, nature as a teacher, and ancestor reverence. As the founder of The Empowered Life Circle, and the creatrix of the Empowered Life Self-Inquiry Oracle Deck I am devoted to sharing tools cultivating a life this is a sacred ritual. In today's episode, Stef and Nicole talk about the mysterious conundrum of feeling like there's never enough time for our yoga or meditation practice when in reality, we can easily spend plenty of time doing other things like our jobs, taking care of our families, or taking on all the other responsibilities of modern life. If you've ever felt like you don't have the time to dedicate to a yoga or meditation practice, this episode is for you! Using an excerpt from the book Radiant Rest by Tracee Stanley as a starting point (see below), Stef and Nicole discuss the pressure of what it means to be disciplined, the guilt and shame around not doing enough, and the murky grey zone of finding the balance between quality versus quantity of practice. They also explore what it means to have a yoga practice or a meditation practice, and letting go of the expectations around what a practice has to look like or how much time is required. This episode mentions a previous Life in Balance podcast episode titled "Letting Go of Expectations" https://anchor.fm/dashboard/episode/eho14r We hope you love this episode as much as we loved recording it! The excerpt from Radiant Rest: Yoga Nidra for Deep Relaxation & Awakened Clarity can be found on page 78: "Usually when we think of dedicated yoga practitioners, we visualize people who have many hours a day to meditate, study, and practice. We see them as very disciplined. They always seem to be reading the scriptures, discovering new teachers, trying new modalities, and going to workshops or on spiritual pilgrimages. This kind of time is a luxury and a privilege and not the case for most of us. We consider ourselves lucky if we can eke out time for a class once or twice a week. Somehow, we have gotten the idea that spiritual fruits are only delivered to those who have a lot of time, resources, and discipline to dedicate to practice. We decide that if we can't do a full hour of practice, it's not worth even bothering. But who said that a "practice" needed to be an hour or 90 minutes to be valid? That comes from the commercialization of yoga as a wellness product to be sold and not as a lifelong practice that can lead to spiritual freedom."
