Pre-Loved Podcast is a weekly vintage fashion interview show, with guests you'll want to go thrifting with! For more Pre-Loved Podcast, subscribe to our Patreon! Today's episode is with Madelyn of Black Rabbit Vintage, based out of Benton Park in St. Louis. Madelyn has long been a vintage lover – she loves restoring old things to their former glory and passing on stories associated with vintage garments.  She says she's been sewing for as long as she was allowed to touch a machine, and since high school she knew she wanted to own her own space – maybe vintage, maybe vinyl, maybe old books? But now, 15 years later she does it all! We hear her whole story with opening Black Rabbit Vintage on today's show. Tragically, in late June, around when we filmed this, Madelyn learned that Sk8 Libourious, an indoor skate park and community center in North City was on fire – the destruction of this space was devastating in its own right, but it was also where Madelyn stored a large amount of Black Rabbit Vintage's back store. Luckily, her storage room did not fully burn in the fire and she was able to get a majority of my things out of the building, but it has been a long restoration and recovery journey.  A journey which we talk about on today's show – I also want to flag that there is a GoFundMe page for Black Rabbit's recovery efforts linked in the shownotes, if you're inclined to help out another vintage-lover.  All this and more in today's episode,  so let's just dive right in! DISCUSSED IN THE EPISODE: [7:19] Madelyn grew up with a love of old things and church basement rummage sales, and we discuss her journey to owning a vintage store.  [12:51] Taking part in pop-ups and markets across St. Louis.  [19:52] Opening her shop in Benton Park. [22:34] Recovering from the fire at Sk8 Libourious, where Black Rabbit Vintage's back stock was stored. [27:46] The recovery process to restore pieces damaged from the fire. [37:00] The incredible stories that go along with vintage garments. [43:26] Madelyn has a special love for vintage jewelry, and we chat about restoring it. [45:36] On personal style, and favorite pieces in Madelyn's personal collection. Episode 11 of Priced Out the Podcast is about the great city of St. Louis, MO. The city is a wonderful place with great people and a lot of new potential. There is new energy and growth going on, but the city has a long and troubling past and continues to be challenged by vast poverty, discrimination and neglect. We talk with two residents Rebeca Carlos, host of the podcast Explain to Me and artist and community activist Kevin Hopkins. We talk about the city's deep history of segregation, the Delmar Divide, the Riots of 1916, the poverty and abandonment of East Louis Louis and North St. Louis White Flight in Spanish Lakes and speculate if big property owners are playing games and driving down land values like they have done in Detroit. We also talk about the early signs of gentrification or "revitalization" in the Delmar Loop, Benton Park, South City the Grove and elsewhere. https://www.pricedoutmovie.com/ --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/priced-out-podcast/support

Cheryl and Christy are passionate about connecting people – great ideas, companies, invention and progress don't happen in isolation. It is important to connect with a community of like-minded people for the support and inspiration you need to make your dreams a reality. It just so happens that there are two new places in St. Louis where you can find those people and resources. We invited Kristy and James Jackson with DK Annex and the Social Synergy Project, and Marc Bowers with Brick City Makes to tell us more about the new facilities and communities they are building. While their projects are separate and distinct, both are in the City (they are neighbors) and are bringing new life to old buildings, as well as the Fox Park and Benton Park neighborhoods. Our conversation explores how serving entrepreneurs outside the advanced technology ecosystem helps create a vibrant community of creatives, small business owners and scale-ups. There are hidden manufacturing gems in industrial parks throughout the region and solo-entrepreneurs toiling in isolation. Folks like Kristy, James and Marc are the business of creating new opportunities for individuals to connect, grow and thrive. Find out how you can become part of their vibrant networks and take advantage of their collective expertise! In this episode: - Build or buy? There are options - Manufacturing space that makes sense - Finding mentors, resources and solutions - The advantage of having a “wing man” for networking - How they strive to create the “corner bar that looks like me” Learn more: www.DKsocialsynergy.com www.brickcitymakes.com www.stlouismakes.org
