Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
Before the arrest, before the 911 call, before the charges -- there was a man with a guitar and a public image built on faith, family, and music. Caleb Flynn grew up as a pastor's son in Braham, Minnesota. He drummed in his father's praise band as a child, played on state championship basketball teams, studied music ministry at Lee University, and spent over a decade leading worship at churches in Ohio and South Carolina. Then the trajectory shifted. He left ministry. Spent less than a year selling life insurance. And ended up as VP of Sales at his wife's family's business -- a commercial flooring company in Tipp City. His LinkedIn profile still features his American Idol photo. After his arrest, Ashley's family went to court. Their filings revealed Caleb was listed as the primary beneficiary on a life insurance policy. They sought access to financial records and asked the court to freeze assets, calling him someone with "the motive, opportunity, and means" to dissipate what was left. A judge raised his bond to $3.5 million and barred all contact with his daughters.Part 2 of our four-part series maps the full arc of who Caleb Flynn was -- and the gap between the man on stage and the man the prosecution describes.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? In this Season Finale episode, Hilliard sits down with actor/writer/prod/director NOEL BRAHAM - co-founder of the hit MICHEAUX FILM FESTIVAL now in its 7th year and killing the game on the circuit!HIGHLIGHTS: The Power of “YET," lessons from his family growing up, becoming an actor, climbing many mountains, becoming a filmmaker and producing a Webseries and daytime Emmy-nominated short films, the power of community, co-founding and producing the Micheaux Film Festival and so much more!Noel is an Emmy-nominated filmmaker, founder, and master of making gold on a budget tighter than his schedule. As the visionary behind the Micheaux Film Festival, he's built one of the fastest-growing multicultural film festivals in the country, while simultaneously directing, producing, writing, and probably acting out something in the back of an Uber. Born with a camera in one hand and an unshakable belief in multicultural stories in the other, Noel turned his journey from living in a hostel to helming red carpets into a movement. His work sits at the intersection of impact and innovation, combining soul-stirring narratives with social relevance...and maybe a sly wink to every industry gatekeeper who ever said "no."Noel's latest indie feature, Angel City, starring SNL star Chris Kattan, is a gritty, heartfelt love letter to Los Angeles that blends social commentary with cinematic ambition. Inspired by his own experience of living out of his car while chasing a dream, the film pulls back the curtain on the harsh realities of Hollywood and the homeless community.A true creative Swiss Army knife, Noel has collaborated with brands like Sony, Amazon, and Apple, while continuing to champion emerging talent who have more grit than followers. He's known for being equal parts strategist and storyteller and his superpower? Turning a three-person crew and a Craigslist location into something that looks like it came out of Warner Bros. When he's not running a festival, pitching a project, or jumping on a Zoom in a button-up and gym shorts, you can find him praying, hyping indie artists, or asking Chat GPT how to survive on three hours of sleep. In today's hypercompetitive business landscape, reputation management is your most valuable career asset to develop. As Sabrina Braham, founder of Women's Leadership Success, powerfully states: "Your reputation is constantly changing and evolving, and if you are not managing it, somebody else is." Sabrina Braham MA MFT PCC - Executive Brand Building Expert For female managers, directors, VPs, C-suite executives, and founders, strategic reputation management isn't optional—it's essential for breaking through the barriers that still exist in corporate leadership. Why Your Leadership Reputation Makes or Breaks Your Career Recent studies show that women leaders who actively manage their professional reputations are: 2.3x more likely to be considered for promotion over equally qualified peers 68% more resilient during organizational restructuring and layoffs 4x more likely to be recruited for prestigious positions and board seats As one executive discovered after implementing Braham's reputation management strategies: "I went from being consistently overlooked to being elected to the VP position I'd been seeking for years." The Reputation Management Trap Most Women Leaders Fall Into Many accomplished women make the same critical mistake: they assume excellent work speaks for itself. Unfortunately, research shows this approach leaves your professional narrative in others' hands. The 3 Most Damaging Reputation Pitfalls: Allowing outdated perceptions to persist Failing to strategically communicate your value Missing opportunities to showcase thought leadership These gaps don't just slow career progression—they can derail it entirely, especially during critical transition points. Strategic Reputation Management: The Leadership Brand Blueprint Approach The Leadership Brand Accelerator Blueprint offers a revolutionary approach to reputation management specifically designed for women leaders. This proven system has helped executives at companies like Google, Daimler, and dozens of Fortune 500 organizations transform their professional trajectories. Transformative Benefits of the Blueprint System: Perception Alignment Eliminate the gap between your capabilities and how decision-makers perceive you. One leader using the system discovered her meeting presence was rated only a "5" when she thought she was performing at a "7" or "8" level—feedback that led to specific improvements and a subsequent promotion. Reputation Resilience Build a reputation strong enough to withstand organizational changes, industry disruption, and career transitions. Leaders using the Blueprint reported 43% greater confidence during challenging periods and received stronger support from key stakeholders. Strategic Visibility Create powerful visibility without self-promotion discomfort. The Blueprint's targeted approach ensures your contributions are recognized by the right people at the right time, using techniques that feel authentic and aligned with your values. Amplified Influence Develop your thought leadership platform both inside and outside your organization. Blueprint users report a 75% increase in being consulted for strategic decisions and a 56% growth in professional network quality. Career Acceleration Most importantly, the Blueprint dramatically shortens the timeline to your next leadership level. While the average executive waits 4.2 years between promotions, Blueprint users report advancing in just 18-24 months. The Quarterly Reputation Audit: Your Leadership Advantage At the core of the Blueprint is a systematic quarterly audit that ensures you're consistently evaluating and refining how you're perceived. Unlike annual reviews or sporadic feedback, this structured approach creates continuous improvement and prevents reputation drift. The Blueprint's Four-Part Reputation Management Framework: Digital Presence Optimization Strategic LinkedIn positioning Content that showcases your expertise

She emphasizes that successful career advancement strategies for women in management must include intentional brand building. This means crafting a clear leadership narrative, developing a strong digital presence, and consistently delivering value that aligns with your professional identity. The Influence-Success Connection "Leadership influence isn't just about authority—it's about creating impact through your unique brand," explains Braham. She notes that successful career advancement strategies for women in management begin with measuring your current influence and brand perception. "Rate yourself on a scale of 1-10 in team communication, cross-departmental impact, and brand consistency. This baseline helps identify growth opportunities." Sabrina Braham The ROI justifies this investment. "One client invested $10,000 in leadership development and brand building, seeing a $30,000 salary increase within twelve months—a 300% return. After three years, her cumulative earnings grew by $100,000, representing a 1,000% ROI. Her enhanced executive brand opened doors to board positions and speaking engagements." Measuring Leadership Impact and Brand Strength Success leaves clues. Braham recommends tracking specific metrics: - Personal brand recognition (speaking invitations, media mentions) - Leadership influence score (stakeholder surveys) - Digital presence engagement (thought leadership metrics) - Team performance indicators (reflecting brand effectiveness) "These metrics demonstrate both your growing influence and brand equity," notes Braham. In a recent podcast interview on "A Conversation with Host Floyd Marshall Jr.," the co-founders of the Micheaux Film Festival, Noel Braham and Courtney L. Branch, discuss their inspiring journey of leadership, community building, and their mission to amplify the voices of independent filmmakers. The Journey from College Friends to Industry Trailblazers Noel Braham and Courtney L. Branch's journey began as college friends with a shared passion for filmmaking. Their friendship, rooted in creativity and collaboration, evolved into a powerful partnership that led to the creation of the Micheaux Film Festival in 2018. In their interview, they reflected on their humble beginnings, initially hosting local screenings of popular shows like Insecure. Braham and Branch revealed that their festival was born out of a desire to give independent filmmakers a platform that embraces diversity and creativity. Their festival, inspired by pioneering African American filmmaker Oscar Micheaux, is more than just a celebration of cinema; it's a beacon of hope for underrepresented voices in the film industry. Uplifting Underrepresented Creatives As Emmy-nominated filmmakers, Braham and Branch understand the struggles faced by independent artists. Their Micheaux Film Festival aims to fill a significant gap in Hollywood, providing a platform for those whose stories might otherwise go unheard. “We want to shift the spotlight away from ourselves and give a voice to others,” Braham shared during the podcast. The festival, which has grown significantly since its inception, is built on the principle of inclusivity. Branch emphasized their commitment to providing a space for creatives from all walks of life. “We don't just see ourselves as an organization,” she noted, “We're a family.” This sense of community sets the Micheaux Film Festival apart, creating an environment where filmmakers feel seen, valued, and celebrated. Overcoming Challenges and Staying True to the Mission Launching and growing a film festival through the trials of a global pandemic presented numerous challenges. Braham and Branch discussed the hurdles they faced, from limited resources to navigating the complex landscape of the film industry during such uncertain times. Despite these obstacles, their passion and commitment to the Micheaux Film Festival's mission never wavered. Branch shared that their resilience comes from their belief in the power of perseverance, echoing Oscar Micheaux's words: “There is no barrier to success that diligence and perseverance cannot hurdle.” This mindset has fueled their growth and helped them stay focused on their goal to champion independent filmmakers. Building a Lasting Legacy During the podcast, both Braham and Branch expressed their desire to continue building a lasting legacy. They aim to expand the Micheaux Film Festival's reach, creating more opportunities for filmmakers to showcase their work, gain industry insights, and connect with like-minded creatives. Their vision is to not only celebrate film but also to serve as a launching pad for the careers of emerging artists. Their conversation with Floyd Marshall Jr. highlighted the importance of staying true to one's purpose, building community, and creating platforms that allow diverse voices to shine. The subject of where to get the best pie in Minnesota is controversial. There's a squabble between those who love Betty's Pies on the north shore and the pies made by The Rustic Inn. The Aroma Pie Shop in Whalen along the Root River Trail has a lot of fans. But perhaps the city of Braham has everyone beat. Back in 1990, former Minnesota Governor Rudy Perpich weighed in when he named the town of Braham, an hour north of St. Paul, the Homemade Pie Capital of Minnesota. Braham Pie Day began that year and it's the latest in our series highlighting summer festivals around the state. This Friday, volunteers will serve somewhere around 700 pies in Freedom Park along Main Street. There are other events planned too — a car show, a quilt show, and a performance by the Pie-Alluia chorus — to name a few. Pie Day entertainment coordinator Marie Grundberg joined MPR News host Cathy Wurzer with more on how you can celebrate.
In this latest episode, Neil sits down with Dr. Sandra Braham of Gulf Coast Jewish Family and Community Services. She also served as a former chair of the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce during the time they were examining the Historic Gas Plant District. They discuss some key aspects of the development as well as her hopes and dreams for St. Petersburg. For those seeking women social entrepreneurship advice, the inspiring journey of Lee Rhodes offers invaluable insights into building a mission-driven business. Today, we delve into her story as a cancer survivor and founder of Glassybaby, who transformed personal challenges into a thriving enterprise dedicated to giving back. Lee Rhodes' Journey: Turning Adversity into Opportunity Lee Rhodes was diagnosed with a rare form of bronchial carcinoma when her youngest child was just two months old. This life-altering experience became the catalyst for her entrepreneurial journey. Lee found solace in a handblown glass votive, which lit up her life and sparked the idea for Glassybaby. She started making and selling these beautiful glass votives to support others going through chemotherapy, addressing the economic and emotional inequalities she witnessed in chemo rooms. The Power of Mission-Driven Woman Business Lee's business was driven by a mission from the start. Glassybaby not only produces beautiful votives but also gives back a portion of its profits to support cancer patients. Lee emphasizes that staying true to the mission is crucial for success. Despite challenges, including being advised to move production to China, Lee maintained her commitment to local manufacturing, believing that the authenticity and soul of her products were tied to their origin. Challenges and Lessons Learned - Women Social Entrepreneurship Advice Running a mission-driven business comes with unique challenges. Lee admits her business model is complex due to its reliance on local manufacturing. However, she believes that the cumulative impact of consistent giving has been profound, fostering deep connections with recipients and partners. One significant mistake she made was attempting to outsource production, which resulted in costly and unaligned outcomes. This experience reinforced the importance of sticking to the mission and values. Advice for Women in Social Entrepreneurship 1. Embrace Your Compassion: Women naturally embody empathy and compassion. Lee advises leveraging these traits rather than suppressing them. They are powerful drivers for mission-driven businesses. 2. Take Risks: Women often second-guess themselves and avoid risks. Lee encourages women to take the leap, as the learning and growth from both success and failure are invaluable. 3. Build a Supportive Community: Lean on your community for support. Lee's friends played a crucial role in her early business days, helping with tasks and sharing in the mission. 4. Make Giving a Core Value: Incorporate giving into your business model from the start. It not only enhances your brand's purpose but also creates a fulfilling and sustainable business. Overcoming Unique Challenges Women face unique challenges in business, from balancing caregiving responsibilities to facing societal expectations. Lee highlights the importance of overcoming perfectionism and taking decisive actions. By integrating social entrepreneurship principles, women can create businesses that are not only profitable but also impactful. In This Episode:In our inaugural episode, Sabrina shares three transformative tips to cultivate and advance your confidence as a leader. But before we delve into those, let's meet Melinda, a director at a Fortune 500 company who grappled with self-doubt despite her professional success. Melinda's Story:Melinda was well-liked by her team and management, but beneath her poised exterior, she battled a relentless lack of confidence. Despite her accomplishments, she felt she wasn't living up to her potential, both personally and professionally. Sleepless nights and a sense of overwhelm plagued her as she struggled to balance work and family life. It wasn't until she sought guidance from Sabrina that she realized the root cause of her self-doubt: an internal critic echoing the voice of her past. Through Sabrina's coaching, Melinda learned to distinguish between her inner critic and her inner coach, paving the way for newfound confidence and clarity. 3 Key Takeaways from Melinda's Journey: Recognize and silence your inner critic. Quiet the critical voice in your head and take control of the narrative you tell yourself. Replace self-doubt with self-confidence by visualizing yourself succeeding and thriving in various scenarios. Explore how adopting a confident mindset changes your actions and interactions with others. Embrace a growth mindset to navigate setbacks with resilience. Adopt a growth mindset, recognizing that failure is not personal or terminal. Instead, view setbacks as opportunities for learning and improvement. Challenge the fixed mindset narrative of "I am a loser" or "I am a failure" with the belief that you can grow, adapt, and continuously improve. Practice emotional control to project confidence in every interaction. Develop the ability to regulate your emotions and mood. Experiment with techniques to shift from a negative to a positive mindset, even in challenging situations. Remember that you have the power to master your emotions and cultivate a sense of inner calm and confidence. Incorporate Kaizen Philosophy: Embrace the Japanese philosophy of Kaizen, which emphasizes continuous improvement through minor adjustments and consistent effort. Remember that even small, incremental changes can lead to significant growth over time.
