Todd is a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel with 27 years of service. He is a former enlisted soldier and a West Point graduate. He spent a career as an Armor and Cavalry officer and service as a military diplomat in six European countries (Germany, Belgium, France, Czech Republic, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Slovenia). His time in service included numerous deployments to Afghanistan and one in Kosovo.Upon retiring in January of 2018, Todd threw all of his energy and efforts into the legalization of medical cannabis with a specific focus on gaining access for veterans. He is the CEO of Harvest 360, a full-service cannabis consulting company responsible for winning dozens of licenses across the country. Harvest 360 looks at the re-legalization of cannabis as a paradigm shift and an opportunity to address many of the issues created by cannabis prohibition. Todd is an activist, currently serving on the advisory board of the Kansas Cannabis Coalition and the Veterans Action Council, and previously on the Missouri Cannabis Trade Association. He is also an adjunct professor at Saint Louis University in their Cannabis Science and Policy Program. He lives in the middle of the country on the border between legal cannabis access and harshly punished criminalized marijuana (Platte City, MO). He is married with two sons and a golden doodle. In this episode I'm joined by cannabis musician and entrepreneur Ras Cottreezy.  Ras Cottreezy was a fascinating guest who provided us deep insights from his career in professional football (having played both NFL & arena football) as well as his life travels including stints living in cities like Montreal, Rochester NY, as well as his deep ties to our brothers and sisters in the indigenous communities of North America. His commitment to cannabis social equity and cannabis amnesty permeates our discussion and will leave you wanting to know more about the projects and organizations he's passionate about such as the Buffalo Soldier Rastafari Coalition. I'm particularly proud of our discussions about how likely the ability to use medical cannabis would have extended the careers of so many football players. We both agreed that cannabis can be a valuable harm reduction tool to help players manage some of their physical complaints as well as their mental health struggles such as anxiety and depression off the field better.  We also had to highlight the hypocrisy of the NFL refusing to entertain medical or adult use cannabis all while promoting alcohol and pharmaceutical products freely (often in areas where children are present and can see these ads), both of which have a history of significant harm to communities, just ask MADD. In this episode of Martins World i get to chat with Dana Albert Larsen who is a Canadian author, politician and cannabis rights activist. Larsen was the editor of Cannabis Culture magazine from its creation in 1994 until 2005. He was a founding member of the marijuana party of Canada, the BC Marijuana party and also the Vancouver seed bank a business which sells many seed varieties from their storefront and also across Canada by mail-order, including those for banned and controversial psychoactive plants such as cannabis, poppies, peyote and coca. I first heard of Dana back in 2016 when he started an overgrow the government campaign. This was a campaign of giving cannabis seeds to people who would grow them in an act of Civil Disobedience and over the course of 3 years saw him give away over 10Million cannabis seeds. Dana runs a cannabis dispensary and also an online/mail order medicinal mushroom dispensary looking after 2000 members. The mushroom dispensary provides micro doses of psilocybin mushrooms to its members in a capsule form. David Bronner is an American corporate executive and activist. As the top executive at Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps, he has become known for his activism around a range of issues, especially fair trade, sustainable agriculture, animal rights, and drug policy reform.Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps has supported causes related to drug policy reform, animal rights, organic labeling, sustainable agriculture, and fair trade practices. Roughly 10 percent of the company's revenue goes to charitable giving and activist causes annually. Organizations that have been supported under Bronner's leadership include the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (for which Bronner serves on the board of directors), and Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.A particular target of Bronner's activism has been efforts to protect the hemp industry in the United States. Under his leadership in 2001, the company funded and coordinated with the Hemp Industry Association on its lawsuit against the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), seeking to prevent a ban of hemp food sales in the United States. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals granted a stay in the case in 2002 and ruled in favor of the hemp industry in 2004.Bronner has been arrested twice for civil disobedience while protesting limitations on the domestic production of hemp. In 2009, he was arrested for planting hemp seeds on the lawn at DEA headquarters. In 2012, he was arrested after harvesting hemp and milling hemp oil while locked in a metal cage in front of the White House. In 2015 he was named Cannabis Activist of the Year by the Seattle Hempfest.In 2014 Bronner wrote an advertorial drawing attention to the ways that GMO crops have led to increased pesticide use in the United States. It was initially published as a short article in the Huffington Post and subsequently as an ad in various wide-circulation magazines, ranging from The New Yorker to Scientific American. Last weekend more than 100,000 people descended on the towns of Allinge and Sandvig on the island of Bornholm. They've come to The People's Democratic Festival, Folkemødet, to hear people talk.Several hundred tents are pitched throughout the two towns and inside them people can be found debating, day and night. The hosts are political parties, media, lobby groups and NGOs. All use the opportunity to pitch their agenda and engage their audience. I spent three days at Folkemødet, soaking up debates, drinking beer in the harbour and talking to as many people as I could. So this episode is slightly different. Marc is a Canadian cannabis activist, entrepreneur, politician, and notable advocate of international cannabis policy reform. Emery is often described as ‘the Prince of Pot'. Marc was the world's most famous marijuana seed retailer and the biggest financial supporter of the marijuana movement world-wide until the US Drug Enforcement Administration and Canadian law enforcement arrested him in Canada. After the arrest Marc Emery Direct Seeds was shut down in July 2005. He was imprisoned in Yazoo City medium-security prison in Yazoo City, Mississippi. He was sentenced on September 10th in Seattle federal court to 5 years in prison for “distribution of marijuana” seeds, though the US Drug Enforcement Administration admitted that his arrest was actually for his political activism and financing the marijuana movement.
