TSC Talks Revival!! JUSTIN LESLIE of Project Whistleblower ~ Truth Under Fire

This is a special edition, TSC Talks Revival episode with Justin Leslie! Justin is an ex-Pfizer scientist and whistleblower. Justin was also one of my first guests on my podcast "TSC Talks" in 2018, (https://bit.ly/3Iz0FUU) where he shared his story about his experience with diagnosis and living with TSC. This clip is a short glimpse from our full conversation, dropping soon. In "Project Whistleblower" Justin shares his personal journey, including living with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC), a condition that not only shaped his childhood but also inspired him to pursue a career in pharmacology, aiming to find a cure for his condition.During his time as a vaccine scientist at Pfizer, Justin began to collaborate undercover with Project Veritas. This partnership led to the revealing of mind blowing revelations about the COVID-19 ‘scamdemic' and other alleged misconduct within Pfizer. However, he soon started to observe concerning behaviors within Project Veritas, such as the suppression of timely truths and vaccine concerns. These observations led him to question the integrity of the organization and its founder, James O'Keefe. In collaboration with Marty Leeds, Justin has produced the compelling documentary “Project Whistleblower.” This film delves into his experiences and his growing awareness of the covert tactics and manipulations at Pfizer, Project Veritas, and OMG Media Group. In an era rife with lies and deception, the documentary underscores the revolutionary act of truth-telling." TSC Talks! Final podcast~Wrapping it Up & Thanks

Jill wraps up the podcast! I started in 2016 interviewing my kids and how they were affected by Tuberous Sclerosis Complex. It was absolutely divine inspiration from the start and branched out shortly after to interviewing community members and other professionals who worked with those affected. From there, I explored many different topics, providing information and resources in interview form, all with relevance to the individuas and/or parent/caregivers affected by a chronic illness like TSC. Pushing the boundaries of what was deemed "safe and effective" by our medical system, I continued to put info out there based on my own lived experience as a parent/caregiver living and dealing with what I'd come to discover is CPTSD if you want to use a label. It was my vision and still is that all "remedies" for improving the quality of life of all involved in the wheels of chronic illness, particularly one such as TSC which affects all the vital body organs, will be an option for all. Why should we hold back the river when there are so many speaking about how their lives have been impacted by sharing their truths, sharing what's worked for them and what potentially might help another ease the very real and almost daily traumas of attempting to live with an open heart and navigate our inverted systems of care. Many of these podcasts go against the grain of what people are comfortable hearing. There are always positive takeaways but there are some heavy heavy experiences that people are walking through and talking about and must be given voice. I think through honest conversation, and taking full responsibility for one's reactions to other's sharing from their most painful, heart-wrenching moments, we can begin to hear each other once again at least long enough to realize, we're all having vastly different experiences yet we all long to be here now, safe, loved, whole, home. Thanks for tuning in and being here there and everywhere. It's been the pleasure of a lifetime to have the opportunity to create and share this work. Love Jill

TSC Talks! Points of Light~Linsey Hurley~Holistic Health Coach Working with Cutting Edge Energy Healing Technologies "Silver Linings"

I met Linsey Hurley this past December when we both participate in a Freedom Flash Mob dance event at a local mall. It was a fun and powerful event, a group of locals suddenly bursting into dance and raising awareness of our right to medical freedom! So, I figured the people I met at this event were pretty special. I got a text from Linsey a few weeks ago and we got to chatting. She told me a bit about her business and this new patch she had been guided to that was quite interesting. At that point, I decided to invite her on the podcast to discuss and was quite impressed with what I learned, and the potential of this new tool, X39 patches. Linsey is a holistic health coach, and she has worked with cutting-edge energy healing technologies for many years. She was led to the alternative health field after her experience witnessing her sister go through stage 4 breast cancer within the mainstream health system. Despite her and her sister doing much research and finding alternative treatments which when suggested, were basically brushed off and ignored. This was over 40 years ago. She ultimately lost her sister, and faith in our conventional system, which explains the silver lining. Her sister inspires her and is with her every day and she is grateful for her impact on her life, ultimately pushing Linsey into utilizing and sharing these amazing healing energy devices and tools today! The rest of this story is in the podcast. See timestamps from the transcript below. If interested in learning more, you can reach out to Linsey at linsey@newview.org by phone at 9787937291. She considers this a gift from her sister.5:36 the mainstream narrative keeps us in fear and subservience with no energy to consider why we are here5:57~Linsey's sister is still with her6:32~Start of discussion on X39 patches which support the body's natural systems7:23~the body is brilliant! We can support it in the way it wants to heal7:45~FDA glitch at beginning of the pandemic, Linsey could not use regular tools such as the Beamer and was led to X39 patches8:06~X39 patches are a frequency device that activates the body's stem cells.8:37~A discussion of exactly what stem cell therapy is, what's involved, the expense, often making it inaccessible and usually used as a last-ditch effort when all else has failed9:53~further explanation of the patch, non-transdermal, made of amino acids and salt crystals, activates different reactions In the body10:36~the science is putting frequencies on the skin that cause other reactions leading to doing some healing11:04~David Schmidt is a scientist who was hired by the Navy to develop a patch for Navy Seals to replace amphetamines12:02~Linsey uses a lot of patches now she has all her grandchildren living with her~more patches have been developed12:24~David Schmidt brought this technology to a friend who was a coach of UCLA swimming, he's been developing and working on it ever since. Different patches are all based on the frequency13:15~X39 patch is the holy grail -activates GHK Copper Peptides that decline with age14:10~It's just actually about age reversal, have had a 70-year-old test with the body of a 50-year-old15:00~Helps with all kinds of degenerative diseases, many testimonials, MS, Parkinson's16:17~comparison of different frequency devices, AO Scan, Beamer, all are wonderful and if possible used right now to get through these times when we are bombarded with energies, 5G, EMF…17:20~Linsey had an autoimmune disorder, 15-20 years ago, had to quit her job, “3-year retreat”, trusted spirit, found Kangen water, another healing modality which was expensive but a good investment as she was able to heal.20:29~Our healthcare systems are frustrating, organ-based, siloed, going from one drug to the next, Band-Aid instead of getting at the deeper reason for illness, no quality of life22:06~Doctors educated at medical schools funded by big pharma and are taught nothing in regards to energy even though they use technology like MRIs which could be used in healing23:18 Bruce Lipton~Placebo effect24:00~Potential for special needs communities is huge with these patches, also for parents and caregivers24:21~Only restriction is not to use the patches during chemotherapy as it will detox the chemo25:05 If the patch effect is too strong, take it off for a few hours. Linsey's experience with retracing26:36~You won't want to stop, you will see a decrease in results if you do not continue use, Linsey is very upfront about this. This is an out-of-the-box business paradigm and opportunity!

SEE SHOW NOTES FOR PART ONE FOR MORE DETAIL! I had the pleasure of interviewing Leigh Anne Bianchi, Founder of Good Citizenship Project recently on TSC Talks. She was joined by her business manager Carla Bell. We had a free ranging discussion covering many topics but all regarding the benefits of the sort of unconventional programming Leigh Anne has developed through GCP and how this meets many of the huge gaping unmet needs for those individuals diagnosed with autism and other special needs that our systems of care have become too siloed and disconnected to address. “Developing a sense of meaning and purpose, social-emotional skills, work ethic, and peer relationships by volunteering, distributing donations, and supporting local farms.”For more information on Good Citizenship Project, FB page: https://www.facebook.com/GoodCitizenshipProject/ phone: (508) 868-0293 email: leighanne.bianchi143@gmail.comTimestamps for part 2:0-52 Intro00:54- Antonio's Waitress Olivia treats them like humans, the start of the discussion on sexuality and special needs2:26 All the PC of working w/special needs has made sexuality issues really challenging. People taken advantage of, they are developmentally younger and no one talks about this5:03 Karaoke, real-world situations help5:28 Dashboard confessionals, you can say stuff without eye contact when conversations about penises and vaginas come out. Pediatricians recommend using scientific wording, Leigh Anne took all the training on autism/special needs and sexuality and can talk candidly.9:27 Why questions, keep asking them. See the question behind the action. One client wanted to see Leigh Anne's breasts, curiosity, she didn't react or file a report but discussed it with him. So many lives could be ruined if everything is flagged as inappropriate. This population never gets to ask questions11:06 Leigh Anne had to spend 5 minutes spend w/individual who had sex offender charges in ISP and Leigh Anne knew charges were not true-example13:16 Paying for Good Citizenship Project….if you have an autism diagnosis, sometimes easier to get funding, agencies often don't want to pick up those with autism but things changing and agencies can help you get funding to cover through DESE/Wraparound Family Services, Public Partnerships through Participant directed programming conduit, Private pay, PCA funds, DDS Family Respite funds20:11 Leigh Anne should be paid more for all she offers. Charges $30/hour but will work with families. Leigh Anne does not have a BCBA or other letters after the name that would allow her to be recognized as a service agent but has the lived experience and work experience to exceed those with mere education23:26 Becoming a non-profit would mean more strings attached, Johnny her horse would have to be certified as a therapy horse, her dog a pit bull mix, too many hoops to jump through. Jack couldn't have used a log splitter!26:31 Investor/philanthropist would be ideal with no strings attached. Leigh Anne took a chance w/Camp Marshall, wanting to partner and have it be her home base. If associated with an agency the volunteers would need to get paid. All benefits from GCP are not recognized as beneficial for many who don't understand the depth of what she does. 31:31 Work to ride is an option or unpaid internship/apprenticeship. So much happens in learning these farm skills that is energetic…deciding how to perform tasks and learning from any mistakes, having the freedom to learn from mistakes like using a pitchfork instead of a shovel for a particular job…34:21 Farmers giving the flexibility to figure out the approach to completing a job is helpful. So then it's not regimented, can focus on the end results, not the niggling details and farmwork facilitates executive functioning in this area. Learning at the moment, the Montessori approach is part of Leigh Anne's process37:31 Give individual rules, allow them to screw up and figure it out is more powerful than reading how to do something in a book or being told what to do. Forced problem solving, you remember you had to take a different approach. This is empowering!40:46 GCP NEEDS MONEY TO EXPAND! Fundraisers coming soon. Discussion of fundraisers43:36 Looking for a home base with specific parameters. She needs to bring her animals. This has been challenging, small private barns are nervous to have special needs population-liability. Leigh Anne looking for a life in a caretaker position46:21 Jack came in (Jill's son who participates in GCP). Leigh Anne is looking for a situation where most of the labor at the new setting is done by members of the GCP. She screens applicants for a good match, meets parents and individuals, gives a grace period. Wants it known GCP is a for-profit not an agency. 49:01 But Leigh Anne is more than a job coach. The people she supports are part of her family. “So you want me to pay for you to force my kid to do slave labor” is some people's attitude. No, they are learning transformative, resume-worthy skills.51:11 Leigh Anne went to Salter College, able to be successful b/c was focused on one thing. There is real value in jobs that don't require a degree. People do not see the scope of autism…Ford Motor Co was seeking to hire those on the Autism spectrum b/c of attention to detail/focus.55:11 One of the goals of GCP is to raise awareness of what an autistic person looks like which has spread by word of mouth, inspiring others to think outside of the box in creating programs for this population. B/c of relationships developed through GCP, Leigh Anne has options-a temporary place to live if needed “if you do good things, they come back”. In our society many expect something in return for every little thing60:11 Carla Bell is Leigh Anne's business manager, helping her with a business plan and fundraising has worked in special edThanks so much for listening!!! https://tsctalks.com

“Developing a sense of meaning and purpose, social-emotional skills, work ethic, and peer relationships by volunteering, distributing donations, and supporting local farms."In my opinion, what she shares are gems of vital importance. AS someone who carries a diagnosis of Autism AND has worked within our siloed and disconnected systems of care, she gets it on a whole new level. What is missing, what is needed. One of her most important assets is her ability to ask why and watch, observe what is going on without judgment or preconceived notions based on dogmatic teachings not relevant to real life. Leigh Anne IS real life. She knows how what and why to reach and engage kids who have often had no one their entire lives really see them. The energetics of the interactions are often the most important part and the very part of our offspring's with special needs education that is rarely observed or explored. To do so freely requires unconventional programming and thinking and IS what will give these individuals deep embedded experience to carry forward and integrate into every aspect of their lives. Priceless. So that being said, this is one of the most important discussions I've had to date on TSC Talks personally as my son Jack has benefitted immensely from participating in this sort of immersive, apprenticeship experience gaining valuable skills, both tangible and energetic. Here's a recent description of gains made: “There's A LOT going on there when we're together. Not just the obvious, like physical fitness, and employment-based objectives, but Distress Tolerance, Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, time management, generalizing skills, problem-solving.... learning how and when NOT to answer back to an authority figure. (Instead of saying, "I know," or "I was going to do that," when he clearly wasn't, just saying "OK.") We address that OFTEN. Staying on topic, being able to complete a task WHILE socializing... Another example is planning. Looking at the task at hand (like cleaning a pen or stall) and being able to decide which tools you're going to need (the pen might require a garden rake and a metal pitchfork, vs. an aluminum shovel and a plastic pitchfork for the stall), and how to efficiently complete the task. Right now, he tends to be on autopilot at Jesse's, because he's done it before, and knows what tools to use. But if we go to a different barn/farm, he will sometimes just walk into the stall without any tools or automatically grab the tools that he'd use as Jesse's. But Jesse has brand-new rubber stall mats under the shavings, whereas other barns might have hard, packed-down dirt that is uneven, old, warped stall mats, or even slab cement under the shavings, which impacts the tools needed for the job. Additionally, the concept of 'using your head to save your feet and planning out the technique or way you're going to do something....like cleaning the stall of the older horse first so that you can put him in there to eat first since it takes him so long. Or, turning on the hose as you walk by it upon arrival, so you don't have to go all the way back out to the spigot when you're ready to fill waters” You get the idea. For more information on Good Citizenship Project, FB page: https://www.facebook.com/GoodCitizenshipProject/ phone: (508) 868-0293 email: leighanne.bianchi143@gmail.com0-4:22 Introduction/opening comments4:22 Formative years, Grandpa Frank, early signs of autism, overlooked in educational settings, temper, frustrations, family-supportive6:42 Principal's office, using a paddle, siblings with similarities8:27 People on the spectrum are empathetic! Animals get it9:52 Meeting Johnny-“he chose me”, a sucker for the underdog, …both dogs rescues, cats and house chicken!12:12 Leigh Anne's challenges-struggled through school, awareness of being different12:47 Post grad programs-infuriating and necessary-started with good intentions but people not honest with students about reality14:57 4 years in post grad almost wasted, doing worksheets, Leigh Anne shares story of a girl she worked with having to do preschool puzzles17:02 Toileting-EIP avoided b/c it was assumed she was not going to ever use toilet but Leigh Anne noticed underdeveloped musculature~ “It's amazing what you can figure out if you just pay attention a little bit” BCBA determines course of her future…. on a different track if cannot use toilet!17:10 we need more people like you who presume competence!19:57 Leigh Anne can see birds eye view on why the life skills programs are the way they are..too many kids, squeaky wheel/most intense needs, profound symptoms get attention and people with milder, more subtle issues fly under the radar22:22 stop and look at why? Leigh Anne gives example with woman from Belchertown-only thing she could control was her bowels so used incontinence …give options and let her choose and always ask WHY is this happening?26:02 So many things were out of young lady's control, diagnosis can be a tool and a knife that cuts both ways27:32 having a diagnosis can be helpful if you can handle it…28:37 Rose colored glasses, person first language and pendulum swung other way for those turning 22. Leigh Anne thinks there should be required classes for parents, so they know what to expect when turning 22 and transitioning to adult services, etc.32:29 Leigh Anne is UNCONVENTIONAL!! Case loads at DDS extreme, high turnover, problems with adequate staffing in group homes33:16 GCP (good citizenship project) Started when she was working as a program coordinator at Seven Hills, minimal consequences for behavior with not realistic environment. Folks turning 22 smart, capable wonderful kids with potential and no self-awareness skills, minimal options37:32 Nonprofit/volunteering issues, for profit volunteer issues, liability issues, not a lot of places for GCP so L.A. developed plan that you could not join GCP unless you had good attendance, no aggression, pitched to Phil Philbin (former head of Aspire) and GCP was started at Seven Hills41:40 First event was a chili cook off, building community relations, thank firefighters, get constructive feedback, also hosted Friendsgiving, kids did all the work43:44 GCP-you do nice things for other people without expectation of anything in return” You feel good when you do good things, and it will come back to you46:32 Info on finding GCP, see above, no requirements for joining, Leigh Anne's rules0deal with circumstances, weather, not for faint of heart, hard work49:26 Jack's response to GCP amazing. “A taste of success” from Better Off Dead

In this episode titled "Connected to Love" I had the pleasure of interviewing Bryan M. Henry, Founder of Together We Ascend, an organization and community that is on the mission of assisting in collective ascension, and the co-creation of more harmonious and prosperous world for all. To this aim, Bryan and the Together We Ascend team is uniting and activating lightworkers through the Ascend Academy. Bryan also is Creator/Producer of "Awaken with Bryan Henry"~ a podcast. Bryan is indeed connected to love and what he communicates in this podcast is just that as well as how we all are connected to love in the deepest and most complete of ways. Giving others an assist in rediscovering this conneciton is what Bryan is called to do. I got the chance to learn this first hand when I came across his Ascend Academy almost a year ago and booked my first session with Bryan. From there our connection grew, and I have been working with him for the last seven months. The recent intuitive podcasting workshop evolved out of our work together. Here's one of Bryan's opening statements, "so I know that you you sent me a little bit of preliminary questions to kind of prepare myself but I feel like the best thing I could have done to prepare my pair myself was drop into here, and that chest region in that body to feel and rather than have some pre scripted answer. Sure what felt most inspiring in this moment. Perfect. That feels like today is the story of a guy that loves to serve, loves to be in service of others loves to contribute, loves to witness transformation take place before his eyes. I've over the course of my journey have come to my perspectives, my beliefs around what goes into living a joyous, filling and exciting life. And part of what that entails for me is being in service to something bigger than oneself. When I look back to all of my experiences, the accumulation of everything I've been through all of the best ones came from being connected to love and making it more about giving then getting. And the irony becomes when you find yourself centered in this space of wanting to give for you get to experience the joy and fulfillment that comes from that. You begin to realize that the giving and receiving are ultimately the same thing." I recently had the distinct pleasure of interviewing Lisa Smith recently on TSC Talks. I met Lisa through a mutual friend, as is explained in the podcast. I was thrilled to do a podcast with another special needs parent and local to Massachusetts. Lisa is a parent of 22 years old Nick, who experiences nonverbal autism, has adopted several children, and over the years has fostered 27. During our interview not only was Lisa able to draw from and articulate profound experiences and topics in such a way as to not only connect them to her lived experience, but she was also able to illustrate how she's taken the time to integrate and utilize all of it to further evolve as a soul but to also facilitate trust, healing, and connection for all her children, biological, adopted and fostered. Her words tell the story, her faith guides her. One of the most important points of our discussion was the realization that it is not these children that are “lucky to have her,” but it is she that is lucky to have them. As a special needs parent myself, this awareness was a true turning point in my understanding of this divine assignment where I became the student and realized my children are my teachers, one that Lisa feels and experiences every day. “It's biblical, she said at one point “And when I began to read the Bible, I had learned that some of my actual walks in life, were very biblical… There's a story that says, God got the 99 sheep, but there was one on the hill. He went back for that one. Most people in life. So God has designed me through my journey, not to forget the one.”“Presence, presence, and presence. And to me? Be present. People always say things like, oh, if I win the lottery, I will do that. And I always tell people all the time I won the lottery five times, five children and people say, oh, they're so lucky to have you, but really….How do I know that I'm going to take care of my disabled son someday? Right? How do I know they're not there to help me when I become disabled someday? We do not know, you know, so we, you know, and, and we don't do it for those selfish reasons. So, we don't do anything to get things, you know, and, and, you know, we do things because that's who we are and that's our heart.”I appreciated this podcast so much and hope you will too. I feel it was put in front of me by my higher self, as sound bite after sound bite so many of Lisa's words not only related to me personally but also inspired and challenged me. Her faith in God is huge and expansive but she shares honestly the hard truths she's faced personally to get to where she is now. Thanks, Lisa, for all the ways you are serving a higher calling and being willing to share your journey with me and this audience. An article about Lisa Smith: https://www.wickedlocal.com/story/archive/2012/04/27/taunton-mom-using-what-she/38199711007/ Time stamps to be added!

I had the pleasure of interviewing James Davis recently on TSC Talks. As you'll hear in the podcast, we connected a little over a year ago when he was just getting started with Bay Staters for Natural Medicine and looking for volunteers. At that time, I'd been experimenting with microdosing psilocybin for mental health reasons, it was helping, and I thought I'd jump in. Life pulled me away from that volunteer work, but James made a profound impression on me, and I had the notion that he'd be successful in whatever he endeavored, particularly his advocacy around decriminalization of plant entheogens, as his passion, kindness, and honesty just stands out. When we connected to do the podcast, I was not surprised, but also surprised by the progress he and the growing team of volunteers he leads has made over the past year. Your host, Jill Woodworth. Here. I am so glad to be with James Davis. He is a, he is a volunteer among other things, but my basis of meeting him was a volunteer and the leader of bay Staters for natural medicine. Just to give you a little background here before we get started, I'm going to read this, but. He's done tremendous work. I'm really excited to have him here. And I'll tell you how our paths crossed in a minute, but he's the leader for Bay Staters for natural medicine. They've mobilized over a thousand Massachusetts volunteers to decriminalize Somerville, Cambridge, North Hampton. East Hampton pending resolutions in Boston, Burlington, Vermont Amhurst, Worcester, Needham, Salem, and Medford. These resolutions… resolutions, decriminalize growing and selling plants like magic mushrooms, which reduce the risk of opioid addiction. 55% after a single experience and have been proven to, have [00:01:00] statistically significant benefits for PTSD and depression. The resolutions also end all controlled substance possession arrests, referring people for addiction treatment and committing our cities to invest in these services. Let's see. And your day job, you're a legislative director to, Massachusetts state rep the chairs, the legislator's cannabis committee, and formally did legislative work for the city council of Berkeley. You have a master's degree in public administration from USC and a BA in economics and history from Columbia and your views do not necessarily represent your employer. One thing that I read in what I was researching you a little bit, was your personal connection? Actually, no, I'll let you go into it. So yeah. Why don't you tell me a little bit about yourself and about the advocacy work that you're doing and we will roll from. James D: Thanks, James, thank you so much for having me, Jill. I'm really excited to chat and I am really [00:02:00] grateful for the support you showed for bay Staters. When we were just a 10 follower Instagram group. We only started about a year and some months ago. And at that stage, We were just weirdos, emailing our city councils, sharing our stories with plant medicine. We took the philosophy that we didn't need to fundraise a lot of money. We didn't need to even have a website active to just start doing this advocacy work and start speaking from the heart. And you know, what this has snowballed into is really, really awesome and beautiful and all the lessons we've learned along the way and advocacy. About the medicines themselves just from meeting so many people whose lives have been changed with this psilocybin experience or an MDMA experiment experience or an LSD experience. So just really honored to be here and really glad that we met too. Yeah. Thanks. Yeah. To tell you a little bit more about who I [00:03:00] am. I know you mentioned all those credentials Yeah, they really don't define who I am. I would say. So I, I grew up in Kansas in a trailer park that was on the wrong side of the railroad tracks. So all the middle-class kids lived on one side of a Walmart supercenter. And then I lived on the side that was mostly liquor stores and churches and run-down streets. So. I was raised by my mom my biggest inspiration in life and she Growing up was always working multiple jobs to make ends me really inspire me to work hard as well. And then she was dealing with a lot of intergenerational trauma herself. Her father had served in the Pacific theater, the Korean war, and Vietnam. And. There was just a lot of, a lot of trauma that she had picked up from childhood and then relationships stemming from, from being a young woman and just growing [00:04:00] alongside her.It really shaped me into the person I am today and made me really compassionate to help people who are struggling in poverty who have that intergenerational trauma. So that's why I think fundamentally this line of work emerged from. Full transcript available at https://tsctalks.com

I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing Kimrâh Minuty recently on TSC Talks. We had a free-flowing conversation with the main inquiry being how has her lived experience prepared her to step more fully into her soul's purpose. As an Author, Poet, Ascension Coach, podcaster, clear channel, communicator, Mother, (and more) she has signed on for many roles in this lifetime. She went into great detail sharing the events of her life relating it to what she was learning through each experience. We went on a few sidetracks, which always circled back to the main topic beautifully. Her sense of humor, depth, and powerful presence, plus her excellent oratorical skills made this a fantastic, detailed conversation that fed my soul. I had the pleasure of interviewing Janna Champagne, RN, BSN recently to discuss cannabis and spirituality. Janna has been a fantastic TSC Talks Podcast guest several times in the past. I am linking to those podcasts for anyone interested in hearing more from Janna, including her initial “story”, and more detailed information on using cannabis to heal and her work with Autism, leading to developing Autism Safe Haven. Our most recent interview delved into Janna's story and teased out how her lived experience led her to step more fully into her soul's purpose. Janna delivers heartfelt, vulnerable glimpses from her journey thus far in this lifetime. Her lived experience is testimony to the power of continuing to show up, work on herself, and allow herself to surrender and be led by spirit despite some overwhelming odds. A story of personal transformation, hope, and healing. Janna credits cannabis for helping to reduce her reliance on harmful pharmaceuticals and support her ability to regain her health, including reversal of autoimmune disease, against all odds. Janna is also known for her success in treating her daughter's Autism with cannabis, which was featured as a cover story in a national cannabis industry magazine in 2017. www.integratedholisticcare.com/newsNurse Janna's focus is holistic treatment--natural alternatives to pharmaceuticals including CBD and cannabis therapy. Her work as a cannabis-specialty nurse since 2015 included educating thousands of patients, helping them optimize their cannabis therapy outcomes through an individualized and well-informed approach. Janna has since applied her extensive clinical knowledge to educate medical professionals about cannabis, and help producers create therapeutic quality and targeted cannabis products, with a goal of improving cannabis patient success rates. Janna is also founder of Autism Safe Haven, a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to improving cannabis-inclusive Autism care resources.Nurse Janna's specialties include: Autism, Inflammatory/Chronic Pain Syndromes, Autoimmune, Neurological, Gastrointestinal, and Mental Health conditions. Janna found that success with cannabis often led to reduced reliance on pharmaceuticals, meanwhile improving quality of life and function. Nurse Janna is a founding member of Cannabis Nurses Network, serving on CNN's Speaker's Bureau, and as leadership. Janna was awarded Leader of Nursing and Outstanding Author for Cannabis Nurses Media in 2019 and nominated/awarded Cannabis Nurses Network 2020 Educator of the Year. Janna offers accredited cannabis nurse education programs, and also serves as a cannabis college professor, teaching graduate student medical practitioners through John Patrick University's Masters of Integrative Medicine Degree Program. Helping producers create optimal cannabis products resulted in one of the CBD product lines winning Top 10 CBD of 2020 designation using Janna's formula recipes (Verdania Fields). Janna also serves as medical advisor and patient advocate for United Patients Group, dedicated to educating consumers with reliable cannabis information. Nurse Janna is a member of the Oregon Cannabis Clinician's Group and volunteers on the Patient Care Subcommittee of the Oregon Cannabis Commission, and the Ryan's Law Oregon Advocacy Team. I recently heard some talk in spiritual communities about cannabis and how it possibly harshes our evolution. I'll admit, I was a little bit triggered when I first heard this. I felt for a moment that what I'd come to understand as my truth, (using cannabis as medicine and as a portal to divine connection and expansion), was under the microscope. I think is there's a lot of misunderstanding of cannabis, cannabis as medicine, cannabis as an entheogen. What I was hearing from some within the spiritual community, didn't line up with what I had learned and experienced and it was confusing. Cannabis, in many ways, opened a portal so I could see how to save my own life. So, I did what has become a foundational transformational process for me and I took it to the podcast to ask the burning question I had on my mind about cannabis and spirituality. I thought, “why not interview somebody that I know that has some lived experience in that area?” I reached out to my friend Sherri Tutkus, RN, BSN, Green Nurse, former podcast guest, to see if she'd have this discussion with me. (I will continue interviewing individuals who are interested in sharing their “story” of how their lived experiences, of all shades, let them to stepping more fully into their soul's purpose.)From a very young age, Sherri was connected and had some experiences with the divine. What followed from my initial query is a beautiful discussion with her just blowing my mind with the things she's experienced and where she's gone and come back from to be a shining light and a heck of a guide for others. Through her combo of traditional medical education, deep lived experience as a patient, nurse, mother, medical cannabis patient, psychedelic explorer and guide, podcaster, businesswoman, and friend to many, her depth of insight is epic. I learned a lot and realized I had the answer within, which it always is, needing a little context & connection to spring it loose. Let's hope you can find some valuable insight as well. Let it rip!Sherri Tutkus BSN- RN is a leading force in the burgeoning cannabis industry as a nurse, patient, advocate, and activist. All that she shares and teaches facilitates our own innate ability to step more fully into our authentic, divine selves. Sherri is the Founder of The Green Nurse and Chief Nursing Officer at Holistic Caring- a global community of health professionals who provide vetted products and services to support the utilization of plant medicine and other progressive therapies to nourish the endocannabinoid system (ECS). Sherri educates and implements holistic integrative healing modalities within her nursing practice at https://thegreennurse.com/team/sherri-tutkus/ "And through all of that my discovery was this. We have beliefs, and beliefs are fed to us from the outside. And so, we have a choice to either believe it or not believe it. Right. But does a belief make it true? That's the question that people need to ask. So, truth.... what is truth? Truth is basically when someone has an experience, that can become their truth. All truth is truth. For all the negativity around Facebook, that's where I met her. In a forum for Lorie Ladd, during the COVID madness. Our paths were destined to cross. Our connection and experience together, over the last 6 months, was enough to make me want to podcast again. You'll hear the description of how I thought we met and then Nina's description of how we met, which was far more accurate. Funny. What I want to note is how important it has been for Nina to solidify her inner voice and deep knowing, her authentic self, despite the external reality into which she was born is one in which often didn't make sense in a way that allowed her to feel loved and at home with her own awesomeness and value. Born the oldest of 7, to a world-renowned, doctor of psychiatry~ in NYC, busy parents, whose hands were full, she internalized the message to stay out of the way and not draw attention to herself. did not follow any preconceived or single life path, like me, she's been an avid student of life. Each experience led her further into asking the question, “Is this really all there is?”. From her earliest memories to today, she weaves a beautiful narrative based upon the inner and outer experience of each memory she shares. She states, “If I'd have had to plan a life for myself to get me to where I am today, I could not have planned it any better!” I am honored to get the chance to ask her questions and discuss pretty much freestyle, her navigation across the time-space continuum, the adventures she's had along the way, what was gleaned, what was stored, and how each experience held a gift, like a scavenger hunt, leading her along the path of further stepping into her soul's purpose. There's so much within the episode, and I've noted the timestamps that I thought jumped out, below. JIll gives a synopsis of why, in her opinion, Tuberous Sclerosis Complex -"benign" tumors in every vital organ, probably every organ of the body, should be a template for shining a light on the cracks in our systems of care, AND illuminating a new path forward. Factoring in the energetics of TSC, aka the emotional experience involved in living with and/or advocating for someone with this condition will connect the dots, between the visible manifestations and the invisible manifestations and how the interplay of mind-body-spirit, and our growing understanding of it, does influence outcomes. This should all be remembered and cataloged! Jill walks a razor's edge close to her breaking point at times, for good reason. She is playing her long game and knows that sharing the joys and pains of our experience with the energetics of TSC, IS worth being shared. We as a kind...humankind, do not seem to understand that when you throw a wrench in the gears, metaphorically, in a bodily organ, it has the potential to negate years of devoted attention to observing, and one is at risk of getting caught like a wrench in the gears yourself, in the complicated way that loving someone with TSC makes your heart grow. At the same time as you realize the many challenges, disconnects, miracles, tragedies, grief, loss, anger, fears, with which all affected have been faced and the frustration to integrate the full lived experience in such a way that you can build on this knowledge and heal and move forward to a place where there is hope that the full monty of managing this condition was understood and valued by our systems of care for the deep knowledge it provides and the chance to improve on what we know, for humankind forever. And you still love it all anyway. It goes easier if you have to accept that a wrench may be thrown in the gears...at any given moment, and undo everything you may have done for years on end, and hold onto your deep inner wisdom that you are here for a reason, you are deeply worthy of speaking out loud when things with which you are faced don't make sense, when there are no good answers and life is dragging you to the edge of the drain of despair daily. You know this, live it, get up and show up and still find love is the answer and the way through, but boy oh boy, please listen to me, listen to us, and value our deep lived experience coupled with the depths of love we have harvested in our hearts and learn. If I/we/you can walk through this, we all can. I love you.Title inspired by Alison McDowell and her blog, https://wrenchinthegears.com

Driving to get her daughter on Halloween, Jill gives an unplugged, unedited monologue, on the energetics of Tuberous Sclerosis Complex related to her personal lived experience. How considering and understanding "energetics" applicable to many chronic illnesses, -the frustrations, joys, the feelings, thoughts and emotions that are involved are equally, if not more important than to that which we can easily see, and apply logic and clinical principles. Gahhh! There's so much more that we don't tap that would help. Help empower the entire community realize their own strength and what we are walking through daily, what we have learned and what we know. Creating a partnership with those in the system upon whom many must currently depend for care. She discusses the importance of being present, how challenging this can be, and how using your intuition can be the gateway to presence. Overall, how incredibly important it is to consider the energetics of chronic illness including family dynamics when navigating one's role as an affected individual, parent, or caregiver. Love to all out there walking these rugged paths in our very broken systems of care, those within the systems trying to help, and those of us who have disempowered ourselves thinking it would serve a greater good when it has only made us discount what we know in our heart and soul.

Jill Woodworth, host of TSC Talks gives a commentary on the notion of "finding a cure", which is the tag line for about every chronic disease, and how this notion often clouds the less than loving motives behind the industry, corporations, non-profits, medical system and more that extract energy, like a battery, from those for whom they claim to serve. There is always information to which the masses, those affected, and their entire support collective are not privy, which would allow for more light, more ways of figuring out how to genuinely and wholistically find a cure and at least improved quality of life along the way. Hold onto your hearts people, don't judge another's path, no matter what and love yourself if you do. NO matter what.Stay tuned for more content! https://tsctalks.com

TSC Talks guest Nikki Lawley is a former pediatric nurse, former blackjack dealer, and much more, who went from full active life to chronic daily pain and other debilitating symptoms after suffering a traumatic brain injury on the job in 2016. This is the story of how it happened, what happened and how she’s been able to move from existing in survival mode to having a life filled with hope despite ongoing challenges. In her own words; “since my (TBI) injury, one of the things that I’ve learned more than anything is about living in the moment. my life changed a second and I can’t go back and write a new ending, but I sure can start now and I just have really become more human with this injury. ”Here are a few relevant quotes from the transcript~full transcript linked below:“So I began the search for a diagnosis. It was hell, I was always a respected colleague in the medical field. And every doctor I went to was like, we don't understand why your symptoms are so long. We don't understand why you’re not better yet. We don't understand this headache that never goes away. How can you have a headache 24 /7. I'm like, I have a headache. 24/7. I have a headache that never goes away. And they basically told me that it was psychological at one point, and it was so de-humanizing for a person that's never had mental health challenges and extreme situations, to be told, like, this is all in your head. Really nothing wrong with you. And it was like, Whoa, is it really in my head? No, and I mean, chill. When I say I was upbeat and happy, you know, I was different than I was before. I was really quick, really witty really able to, you know, snapback and had a really fun life. I'm a different Nikki and I'm differently-abled, but I feel that patients are the experts, and they are not heard. We are not heard from a patient perspective. When I tell the doctor, this medicine isn't working. Why do I have to be in question?”She goes on to say,“It wasn't like a panacea that like one day I just opened my eyes and oh, cannabis is here. Oh, I'm all better. That's not how it works. Yeah, the universe has allowed me to explore. Honestly, it's allowed me to be able to understand my injury, it's been able to help me help others. I was able to see that cannabis isn't so bad. It's given me hope when I had none. and removing the stigma of this plant is honestly what's in my heart that I really want to help do.”On the state of Cannabis legislation,“But I've learned so much about this plant, and there's so much more to learn. And right. We're just at the beginning, really any of us. Exactly. And New York State is looking at legalization. Yes. I keep seeing that. Is that gonna happen? Well, I was part of it for the last two years and nothing happened. And it was incredibly disappointing. Incredibly. They all got a position so they can make the most money off of it, I think there's so much of that behind it. I don't know all of it. But oh, no, you're 100%. And I really didn't understand that. Like I always just heard people say that, but let me assure you, that's it. I've never seen a more corrupt system literally starting at the very, very top of how it all works together.”“So I had to fight to just see the right providers, I spent so much money out of pocket. Workers' compensation pays for next to nothing. Yeah, unless you have specific doctors that they are willing to pay for, you can't get care, right. Everything was a struggle from medical massage, physical therapy, to cognitive therapy, you name it, they fought you on it. And then to have independent medical exams that are paid for by the insurance company, and they spend literally three and a half minutes with me. They look at all the medical records and say alright, she can return to work in six weeks, and she has no problems.”For the full transcript: https://otter.ai/u/EDWInbGkx7qAhus2lgEyjYilyoM Nikki’s links:Linktree: https://linktr.ee/NikkilawleyLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nikki-lawley-aa281517/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/nikki.lawleyInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/lawleynikki/?hl=enRecent podcast: https://player.fm/series/coffee-party-usa-radio/i-want-access-4-all-nurse-nikki-lawley-stops-by-for-a-cup-of-joeBlog article: https://www.mikesmedicines.com/medical-marijuana/cannabis-shopping-with-nikki-lawley-everyone-is-unique/

The rest is history. We’ve evolved considerably since our early days and expanded the breadth and depth of our content, from purely TSC related to the broader “special needs” umbrella, then cannabis, cannabinoid medicine, and alternative health to where we are today, highlighting the cracks in the system, hoping to shed some light, inspiration and provide resources and information on practical ways to buck the system. Well….not buck it, but bolster, integrate and enrich our lives with stories of others who have found ways to improve quality of life without increasing dependence. Lisa’s story is the start of this content thread. Here’s a few lines from the podcast transcript to give you a bit of a teaser…“Lisa, in the last year, actually in 2020, has transitioned members of her family that are older, into her living space, and I've just kind of watched it from outside. Sometimes our resources run out before we can get our loved ones into a situation where they can take advantage of supports and services and start to forge their own lives. TSC Talks had a fantastic chat with Cannabis Nurse, Carey Lee Leuer, R.N. recently. Carey Lee is a Registered Nurse, Iowa Green Nurse and Cannabis Nurse Consultant- Integrative Health, Geriatric’s, Mental Health. Here's some further info, snippets from transcript and time stamps. From https://thegreennurse.com/cannabis_nurses/carey-lee-leuer/""Nurse Carey Lee wasn’t always a nurse. Her first career spanning over 15 years was in mortgage finance. Although successful, finance did not ignite the fire in her belly like nursing would. 20+ years after high school, marriage, three boys, and a dog named Cooper she took a leap of faith and went back to school to get her nursing degree. Her clinical experience ranges from emergency medicine, skilled nursing in LTAC, geriatric behavioral health & dementia, restorative nursing, and now her primary practice is holistic integrative nursing. “Nursing is my second career but my first love.”Nurse Carey Lee also brings her perspective as a patient to the table. She has battled her own emotional health and has experienced incorrect diagnoses and pharmaceutical trauma. This led her on a journey to find ways of healing other than Western medicine’s first line of treatment-pharmaceuticals. She quickly discovered that getting back to the basics of self-care would become the foundation of healing & maintaining optimal health of mind, body, & spirit. She is passionate about educating patients of various healing modalities and showing them how to THRIVE by implementing a customized self-care plan she lovingly refers to as her Daily Five to Thrive. This self-care plan incorporates the basics: sleep hygiene, nutrition, functional exercise, sunshine, and mindfulness.“Cannabis is one tool we can use to heal & maintain the health of our body, mind, and spirit.” Her own endocannabinoid system was depleted from all of the years of chronic stress that comes with complex post traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) and seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Thanks to medical cannabis and her daily five to thrive, her endocannabinoid system was replenished. She discovered that medical cannabis was the only way she found relief of the nightmares & terrors experienced most of her life. She also found relief from the chronic pain she battles thanks to Cervical Spondylotic Myelopathy. The plant has also allowed Nurse Carey Lee to open up to explore and discover other healing modalities from Eastern medicine, mycology, reiki, energy healing, and holistic psychology."From the transcript:"I've been a registered nurse for three years, a little over three years now. My first career was in mortgage finance completely. You think it would be the opposite? And I did that for about 15 years, everything from like processing, underwriting sales, ended with the bank, owned my own mortgage brokerage firm with my sister and my husband. Wow. Yeah, VIP mortgage group. We ran it out of Elgin, Illinois. And I pretty much ran operations. I handled every aspect of operations and you can be really good at something and hate it. Yeah. And that was me. I it was not fulfilling to me it was it did not tickle my fancy in the slightest. I was miserable. And what made you get into it in the first place? I just kind of fell it fell into it. I actually had left and moved down to Florida after high school in the in the early 90s. And when I came back home to the burbs of Chicago, my sister's still there. She was just got into the mortgage business herself. Hmm. And so I was crashing at her pad. And she was just like, Hey, you want to come in and check it out? And so I did. And, you know, it just it found me It fell in my lap. And I went with it, you know, so I had a great career, I earned a lovely income and met, plus lots of great life experiences. But like I said, it just wasn't it wasn't feeding your soul. In this episode, TSC Talks had the honor and pleasure of speaking with Allison Chapman, Legislative Director~Health Choice 4 Action MA. I met Allison through a Facebook Group called, "FLU YOU BAKER CLASS ACTION", formed to "stay connected, informed & share ideas/information regarding the opposition to the MA DPH Flu Vaccine mandate". We started off hearing about Allison's personal connection to these issues, having 3 children, all of whom suffered significant side effects from vaccines, one of whom is permanently disabled. I'm the Legislative Director for health choice for action, Massachusetts, and it's an all volunteer organization, it's not paid. I think a lot of people misinterpret that. But the reason you do it is to make sure that your children and your family members, that may be a little different than others have provided, continue to be able to access the community, and opportunities as everyone else's creation and jobs and all of these things, we want to make sure that everyone has access to when people are not being denied on the basis of their underlying medical issues, or their religious beliefs, or whatever it is, because we're in Massachusetts, we have all these wonderful laws that don't allow discrimination. And unfortunately, there's still some discrimination. So I help with other moms like myself, and I've been doing it for about 15 years. Wow, I've been injury advocate. So a lot longer than I was doing anything else. But that's what I've done for the last about 15 years. But health choice for actions just for a year, a few other organizations in Massachusetts has been for the last four years. So, you know, I've been doing it a long time, but it's with different organizations.Allison Chapman is not an anti-vaxxer. She is, however, a firm believer in vaccine injury having watched all three of her children and her mother suffer significant effects from vaccinations. Allison is the Legislative Director for Health Choice for Action, Massachusetts and has been active with other organizations concerned with vaccine injury. Allison describes her journey and what happened to people she loved when they followed medical advice. The first vaccine and reaction (7:36)Why do my kids have physical reactions to shots (9:92)Changes in her son after vaccine (11:20)Years before doctors admitted her child had an “adverse event” (13:06)Child number three has an adverse reaction to shot as does her mother (13:47)Adverse reactions can happen and should be acknowledged. It was wonderful to cross paths with Sarah Hope on LinkedIn recently and have her as a guest on the podcast. She is the first Microdose Coach I have met, let alone interviewed. I have a personal interest in microdosing, mostly cannabis, but recently have tried psilocybin with excellent results. It has been a tool to engage in some perceptual shifts, processing and healing that I found subtle, non-toxic and worthwhile. "With microdosing, basically, what you're going for is a sub perceptual effect, so that you have a slight increase in brain connectivity, but you're not having so much so much electricity or connectivity in the brain that you're tripping or having a plant journey. But you're in this sort of, like, sub perceptual spot, slightly more open to life, perhaps slightly more focused. And it's something probably that people have been doing since ancient times, but the person who made it famous or the person who really kind of operationalize it as a psychological treatment was Dr. James Fadiman." I'm clipping this bio from her LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/shopecoaching/"I believe in your ability to reconnect with your own true, sacred and powerful nature. When you choose to do so you will access your own power in order to realize your own unique contribution to humanity. It was our pleasure to speak with Katherine Caulfield on TSC Talks. Katy is an author, energy healer, astrologer and mystic "focused on self-love, self-healing and holistic wellness through uniting the spiritual and physical realms". Jill crossed paths with her when given the gift of a channeled healing through past podcast guest, Dorina Leslie. Not familiar with this modality of healing, I had no idea what to expect, was concerned I was going to "screw it up" and was pleasantly surprised at the outcome. I received some poignant insight and feedback which helped significantly and thought it would be great to have Katy on to share her own story of how she got into this line of work, as well as how she was led to channel 9 books, her kundalini awakening and thoughts on our current state of affairs with covid. From her website, "Inspired by her own eye-opening spiritual and Kundalini awakening in 2013, Katherine began to follow her heart, her curiosity, her passions and to remember why she had incarnated on Earth. This led to lots of writing, energy work, astrology, travel, communing with nature, learning about consciousness and so much more! A few years later, in the summer of 2015, she received first contact from The Spirit Collective, a team of non-physical guides who informed her they had nine books for her to channel. She is now honored and grateful to deliver these important messages of love and wisdom to all of humanity."Katy started out by sharing how she was led to this work through her grandmother, "I would say, it almost goes back to my grandmother. So I was named after her, Catherine Katie. And she was a psychic. And so she did these readings. So I grew up with this. I grew up thinking it was normal, you know."She went on to explain coming to the realization that she had psychic abilities, "I think had always been on some level aware from a young age. Like I had an imaginary friend that I spoke to, which is probably more of like an angel. But, I didn't really step into it until into my 20s. And it was after she passed that, and you know, who knows how that all works, but, she's definitely supporting me on the other side as well."Pretty cool stuff. Here's one more snippet and then you can go listen to the episode! "2013 was when I really, as far as I know, I had a spontaneous Kundalini awakening. It was very intense, very intense, it totally rocked my world. There was no control, there's no way that I could have changed it or, directed it, it was coming from a higher place. I mean, I experienced a lot. And I can go into that, but, very high highs, and then really low lows. So very transformative. But when it first happened, and really throughout, and since then, I would say the only way I could describe it was like a full embodiment, receiving of grace, like divine grace like that."We will update these show notes with a listing of topics and time they play within the episode shortly! I also knew…I wasn’t alone.Since the 1990’s it has been my focus to have equity and unity surrounding Cannabis. Thanks for listening! It was a pleasure to interview "Nurse Bonnie". Bonnie Drake, BSN/CRT, Member of the American Cannabis Nurses Association, CBD/HEMP Advocate is a Green Nurse with an extensive history and medical past with a background in nursing herself. She was introduced to CBD when her service dog started suffering from arthritis and Cardiomyopathy. Which is when she ran into Mike Robinson and his compassion care program.CBD allowed Bonnie to become Opioid free within six months after ten years of “Prescribed Addiction,” allowed her to walk on fractured and dislocated great toe for three weeks without pain, and allowed her to endure a three-hour surgical procedure without anesthesia or nerve block. Overall, Bonnie says, “Gives me energy and helps me live my life helping others.” She is another Forest Bather enthusiast who has encountered the magnificent benefits with the improvement of quality of life that cannabis products provide.Topics Discussed:Intro to Bonnie- 00:49Congenital Scoliosis- 5:18Extensive Results on an MRI- 6:00A Motivational Therapy Puppy- 6:19Introduced to CBD for Dogs- 9:47Immediate Reaction from CBD- 12:04Research Time! 12:52Melted the Pain With the First Dose- 13:08A Heart Attack- 13:47Motivation for Doing Compassion Care- 16:02Patients' Testimonials- 17:47Interactions Between CBD and Medications- 22:38Being Active- 24:49From 68 to 40- 30:42Your Skin is the Largest Organ on your Body- 34:44“Dr. Slam the Door”- 35:29Awakening in her Soul- 41:42Links:https://cannabisevangelists.com/https://puresciencelab.news/https://www.hillsdale.net/news/20190220/local-woman-shares-benefits-of-productsTopics Discussed:Intro to Bonnie- 00:49Congenital Scoliosis- 5:18Extensive Results on an MRI- 6:00A Motivational Therapy Puppy- 6:19Introduced to CBD for Dogs- 9:47Immediate Reaction from CBD- 12:04Research Time! Slam the Door”- 35:29Awakening in her Soul- 41:42Links:https://cannabisevangelists.com/https://puresciencelab.news/https://www.hillsdale.net/news/20190220/local-woman-shares-benefits-of-products

In our first conversation, (of which it took 3 to get this audio! :)), Chris mentioned being a Quaker. I immediately felt a connection as my own father was immersed in this philosophy/denomination towards the end of his life and the tenets of kindness and value in every human being despite any external circumstances were a huge part of his mantra. The same can be said for Chris, which you will hear echoed throughout this episode. Chris Chambers is a generous, humble, living piece of art! TSC Talks! Roberto Paleco~ Founder, Research Can; Trailblazing Cannabis Scientist & Researcher, Australia

Roberto Paleco joined us in our “virtual land” to discuss his amazing journey and career as a Medical Researcher/Scientist, Entrepreneur, from Australia, Italian born. He started a company to do research and clinical trials "for hire" to bridge the gap in the Australian medical cannabis industry. Roberto has a passion for nature and chemistry. After years of studying and working in the field as a medical researcher, Roberto decided to work on medical cannabis research entirely, which led him to create ResearchCan. He has a passion for natural medicine, mind-body connection, and chemistry of the body, which made him study different diseases and therapies. He understands that there are people who are suffering and dying that could be helped in different, but simple, ways than the pharma norm.Roberto mentions the gastrointestinal microbiome. It's something that I just learned about in probably the last five or six years. As someone who was on a bunch of pharmaceuticals, the impact on the gastrointestinal system was significant. And the mind-body connection, I think that's something that while it's taught, it's becoming more prevalent. People are understanding the microbiome and the gut that connects gut/brain connection. He developed ResearchCan to make a difference. He mentions it was a hard decision to step out and expose his research, but he also acknowledges that he needs to show the public what he is discovering. Roberto stated that, “We understood the necessity of providing medical cannabis industries with the technology to develop products using pharmaceutical enhancement and medical devices.” Roberto has an extensive and interesting journey in this field. He explained:“My passion for natural medicine started during my university studies, where I had obtained the medical and pharmaceutical knowledge to create drugs and the understanding of drug interaction with the human body. As a scientist, I always found the chemistry of the body and the pharmaceutical technologies fascinating. In my career, I studied different diseases and therapies to have a bigger vision of medical treatments. I studied topic formulation to treat skin cancer in Ireland. I moved to Sydney to become an expert on inhalation and nasal administration for respiratory conditions. I have participated in a clinical trial in collaboration with UTS, where I remained fascinated by the connection mind-body studying gastrointestinal conditions. In all of these apparently unrelated conditions and others in my advice, medical cannabis can be used as primary therapy or as a combination to help unavailable and sometimes inefficient conventional treatments.”“I’ve been aware of the potential of medical cannabis for a long time, and I always tried in my career in Academia to make people understand it. However, nowadays, the barrier is still strong. In the years, I saw people suffering and even die from pathologies that could be treated with this plant. Finally, the world looks like realigning about the use of medical cannabis and I hope one day Australia will lead to this change.”“My personal experience is that the Academia here is not ready for this change and my advice is that medical cannabis companies should invest money in research and developing medical products privately and directly as pharmaceutical companies always did. Australian universities have incredible laboratories and scientists, but at the moment, there are not sufficient government grants to develop cannabis research within the University, and the old bureaucracy around the intellectual property is discouraging the cannabis industry to invest in research. Besides this limitation, there is here in Australia, a market and a business interest in terms of investment and capability. Government legislation around cannabis prohibition is fast-changing, so I think that with a different approach, we can make the difference.”Roberto explained the development and creation of ResearchCan:“I created ResearchCan with a group of friends, all experts on formulation development and almost ten years of experience as medical researchers. We understood the necessity of providing medical cannabis industries with the technology to develop products using pharmaceutical enhancement and medical devices. I decided to create an independent group of scientists to detach our company and research from university bureaucracy and pharmaceutical company control, to be able to deliver cost-worthy research and the access to medical technologies to medical cannabis companies. We hope to become the pharmaceutical research and development partner of a medical cannabis company that has our same vision of this unique opportunity.” “Our vision is to use medical chosen extracts more efficiently delivered to better target conditions using medical products. Having pharmaceutical formulations to deliver cannabis extracts using different administration pathways can increase the use of medical cannabis. The use of available pharmaceutical technologies will allow the reduction of active ingredients required and a real reduction of the therapy cost, improving the bioavailability and efficacy of the drug. Reducing the cost and creating products with high patient compliance is the key to deliver this medicine and to speed up the change in the legislation that is happening worldwide driven by many patients.”He also has a vision for the future! He states the following:“Nowadays, we have access to the technology to prove cannabis’ medical efficacy and to create the pharmaceutical products that the market need. The use of in vitro analysis can help to choose appropriate extracts to be used to treat specific diseases and conditions. The in vitro analyses are used to develop a treatment for specific cancer types, to develop a formulation to access the brain efficiently to treat epilepsy seizures and to test cannabis for the treatment of chronic inflammation diseases efficiently. Furthermore, getting scientific proofs and creating medical formulations is essential to help health professionals to prescribe medical cannabis more safely and efficaciously, opening future access to more diseases. As a group of experts in pharmaceutical formulation delivery, we have been developing prototypes for a nebulizer, a nasal spray formulation and a fast-dissolving sublingual tablet to administer the cannabis extract in different dosages and to better access specific targets. Our plan is to create the knowledge and products needed to give millions of patients an alternative that they need.”One important aspect mentioned by Roberto is that these prototypes are not standard medical formulations, and that is because it needs to be unique for each individual, their different needs, and the individual’s specific body aspects.Links to Roberto Paleco:https://www.linkedin.com/in/roberto-paleco-66139417a/ https://www.researchcan.com/

While that, she is also a mother of a special superhero little girl that suffers from the same autoimmune disease as she does. Danielle demonstrates her rough path but also her strength to follow her instincts, and as every human being, with doubts and uncertainty but reaches an amazing lifestyle for her family while also helping other families. She shares a story of overcome but also the real struggle as a person who suffers from Ankylosing Spondylitis. Danielle just really uprooted herself and moved to Maine to help her child and herself. I’m just very impressed with what I've learned so far. Danielle shares her story timeline with us on the next few quotes. “I always knew I wanted to help people. At an early age, I also knew something was wrong with me too. I had gotten into a little bit of trouble at school. I love the gymnastics part in flipping and I thought I could do this. But I also started to realize that I was getting pains, you know, and everyone kind of chalked it up until I was probably around 16, when it really started to affect me. By 17 years old I started, you know, I've seen every doctor. I've been diagnosed with lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, to everything. So, being diagnosed with so many diagnoses, it’s just because it was kind of unknown. It was a little by 18 when they had known that it was Ankylosing Spondylitis and I was put on oxycodone.”“This next month, I'll be going into my third surgery, they'll be doing a full fusion from the cervix down. Just because I've had so many slipped discs and fractures that are kind of just deteriorating. So I'm a little nervous.”“Every time something like this happens I think of my daughter, what her future might look like. Because like I was saying, when I was a teenager, they put me on oxycodone and it helps, of course. Back then, these drugs were just coming to market. These doctors were taught by the pharmaceuticals that these were lifesavers or they were for some people, I'm not denying that fact. But for me, being so young, I probably shouldn't have been put on oxycodone. Over time, it stopped helping. And at this point, I was in college and I was going to school to be a nurse and now at this time, after oxycodone, I'm put on the fentanyl patch and this I'm usingwith the oxycodone. The fentanyl patch and the oxycodone. So now I'm in school and I'm learning in the medical world. And I start to learn that maybe I shouldn't be on these doses. Maybe I shouldn't be on these medications. Maybe it's okay to question the doctors.”“I was a manager of a Suboxone clinic a few years ago, and I thought to myself, I was no different than these people, except they went to get their drugs from the street; I just had to go to my doctor. She'd write me a prescription and I'd be on my way. I mean, there was no difference to me.”“I just felt something was wrong. I feel really guilty saying this. One time I'd walked into my doctor's office to get a prescription. There were a lot of people in police uniforms and there are people carrying boxes and the nurse was really sneaky about getting me into a room. I don't remember seeing the doctor that day. I just saw my prescription. And I was in a haze. I feel like from 18 to 22 I literally feel like I don't recall a lot of how I managed to graduate school and do the things I did in that time period, still amazing to me. But that next day I read in the newspaper that my doctor was under investigation for overprescribing narcotics. There were a lot of overdoses in our town at that time. And this doctor was connected to them. Well, next thing I know I'm being called by the board of medicine because my medical records have been found outside of her office being disposed of. So now I'm caught in this, ‘I'm addicted to drugs. who's going to supply my drugs now. This is so embarrassing. It's in the newspaper. I'm in the medical field.’ I went through this stage of full-blown depression, I didn't know what to do on my bed. Thankfully, it was a time of my life- life has given back to me because I had no choice other than to either go to the streets and become a drug addict or detox. And I don't recommend detoxing at home, but I was too ashamed to go to the same hospital I worked in. And so I detox at home. The worst 14 days of my life. Pain I never felt, sickness and things I've never felt before, and I wouldn't want to ever again. I think that's why I've stayed off of narcotics because that feeling I remember of coming off of them. On day 15 I remember my younger brother offering me a joint and I was mortified. I was like, whoa, how dare you!”Yeah, the recovery movement. They really were not very pro-cannabis. In fact, I dropped out because they weren't. I was in an addiction. I was going back to school to become an addiction counselor and they passed around this magazine with marijuana on the front of it like it was the worse thing, and I was sitting there and I had just started using. I felt so guilty and it was helping me and I was getting off meds and I was like, I can't do this. I can't get off. “I get it. I was mortified. And then you know what, I did it because what was the other option? I was so sick, I was so sick, and all of a sudden I feel better, and how do we get more of this stuff? You know? So here I am. I work at the hospital. I'm using my younger brother to go buy me marijuana, you know, like, mortifying, but then I started to realize this is going to help. This is going to be the thing that helps me. And it started to help me and then I started to want to help other people. I got a job at a Suboxone clinic and I wanted to help people. I just thought that I could save the world. Then I started to realize I'm drug testing these patients. They are coming back positive for THC and the doc says, ‘that's okay, Danny. No big deal. They come back something else that's a problem.’ And I'm thinking why is this not legal? Why aren't we just using it? Why can't we give them weed because here I am… I'm smoking cannabis every day. It's helping me stay clean, function with my disease, I'm treating these patients, and I'm hiding the fact that I probably smell like it. They thought it was them. It's me the whole time.”“Then you know what I got pregnant and there was no more I could hide it. There was no more of ‘I had to be quiet about it’ because Harley Rose, in 2015, early on, started to show symptoms of something and nobody knew what it was. But one day I went into her crib, she was stiff as a board. I picked her up and she was very hard, and her joints were very red and she had a fever of 102 and I knew right at that moment that I had genetically passed down something to her. It was the worst day of my life. I just thought everything was like flashing. Everything I had gone through and I blamed… I blame myself. Her pediatrician was great. Quickly after the test they found out she had A.S. And right then it was like a whiplash.”“I was very angry at this point, more at myself. I think Because I just felt like this is all my fault. I gave this to her my child's gonna have to endure all the same things I have. So I was very scared and then like I said it was like a slide. they just wanted ‘Let's do this. Let's do that.’ And I said ‘let's do none of it! What can I do herbally?”“The doctors were not supportive of anything alternative. And about a week went by from the diagnosis and I was sitting, probably on a Friday and watching her and her body, she just hurt. You could tell, and I didn't know what to do. And I had a prescription for pain medication and I was holding it and I just knew, I just knew I couldn't do it. And within days, you know, we had quit our jobs. We had packed our home up and we had found a place in West Baldwin, Maine. And we didn't have any jobs here. We didn't have anything, only the hopes that somebody was going to help my daughter. And we left. We met Dr. Dustin.”“I probably sounded like a lunatic. You know, I just said ‘please, I know you're not accepting new patients. I need you to help.’ And within probably 24 hours, 48 hours, there was a callback. We had an appointment within days. We went in and I was terrified because still at this point didn’t want to give her the cannabis. I don't know. I thought maybe this guy was just going to be able to give her an herbal. I don't know what I thought. Honestly, I don't know what I was doing or what I thought. I was so scared. He was so wonderful. He was like this white light come over us and we started her on cannabis and she started to do things you've never done before. I'll never forget the day she took off running, jumped on the arm of the couch and Ninja flips.”“And I thought, ‘do it again!’ My sisters would look at me and give me that look like ‘you shouldn't be letting your baby do that.’ But I did I let her do things that maybe you shouldn't have done.”“I thought, maybe she’d been trapped, you know. So at that moment, the stigma for myself, you know, here I was, it was helping me but I still was scared to give it to my child. Then I gave it to her. She's remarkable.”“That's when it was like, game on, world! Because if I'm doing everything, teach me how to grow, teach me how to grow cannabis, teach me how to do everything about cannabis.”“And then I started to help one mom, and then that started to be two moms. And then it just really grew. And I never connected my business name with who I was as a mom helping these women." This is the full-length audio recording of our TSC Talks hosted, Facebook Live conversation on this topic. Brooke Alisha is an adult and parent living with TSC and Jill Woodworth, the host of TSC Talks, is a parent to several offspring living with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex. They are talking about the extreme behavioral and mental health challenges of TSC and similar conditions that include a neuropsychiatric component. The weight on the family and ripple effect on relationships can be devastating. Managing care across a lifetime requires exceptional measures of coordination and communication for which parents/families are not prepared. The individual and/or parent/caregiver becomes quite knowledgeable but is put in positions no individual, parent or family should be in making high-level medical decisions on a daily basis in crisis laden situations. Our systems of care have become akin to a "Tower of Babel" and TSC care often exposes these broken and siloed systems. Tuberous Sclerosis Complex is a genetic condition that causes benign tumors to grow in different organs of the body. They also discuss alternative medicine options that they each have utilized and for which they feel strongly can be useful for those living with TSC and other chronic life-threatening conditions. Long term polypharmacy issues are incredible and waiting for pharmaceutical formulations of cannabis is not an option. We are witnessing suffering and mental/physical health issues that can be addressed in part through other modalities. Jill is a strong advocate for affordable access to cannabinoid medicine for those living with TSC, recently launched a product that, while not designed to treat or cure, is made with hemp components, terpenes and early reviews are phenomenal. TSC Talks! Dedee Culley, R.N., Cannabis Nurse, Co-Owner, 2 Leaf Nurses~"From Pain to Passion"

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 11, 2020 55:36

Thanks for listening to TSC Talks with Dedee Culley. With over 20 years of nursing experience, she is the co-owner of 2 Leaf Nurses, which provides alternative & holistic health services from Springfield, Missouri. Culley loves home health for its opportunity to connect with patients and their environment. Culley is incredibly blessed and she was able to gather up courage and strength to pursue her passion in nursing while stepping out of the ordinary medicinal ways of these modern days and encourage others to be safe and successful at taking care of their bodies from the inside out with natural approaches. She has a loving attitude and an open mind to seek and research various holistic methods to reach a significantly positive result. She has also dealt with personal health issues within her family and has seen significant changes when she chooses to ASK QUESTIONS and be in the loop of the available options and their side effects. This is her background and mission: (Dedee Culley and her business partner Angela Huff)“I am a registered nurse for over 20 years now; a variety of backgrounds. And there came a point when I said, you know what, enough is enough, there's more to our lives than just ‘the doctor said’, and we do this and we do that. We need to be able to heal our own bodies and we need to work on our own bodies to get them healthy. So, I started a company called 2 Leaf Nurses. And our focus is on the education of patients, as well as businesses, healthcare professionals (our own health care professionals have to have education, bless their hearts), as well as the community. That's what we really focus on, powering everybody.” Whenever I meet someone that's in the cannabis industry from, you know, more than Midwest, I'm like, it's got to be a whole different. You know, different, awkward struggle just to get to be legit and it's hard anywhere just because we're so ingrained in our way of understanding medicine that it's hard to get back and I think that as Culley shares her story, what I found is the people that are in the industry is particularly the great nurses. I'm so grateful. I asked her about what made her take this approach: “So yes, I am in southwest Missouri. We are seven generations deep in this area. My great-great-grandma was actually known as a medicine woman around here because one we didn't have a whole lot of doctors and those doctors cost money which our farmers didn't have. So I spent a lot of time with my grandma, and we had to utilize plants and things that we would now call ‘alternatives’. It opened up a world for me that just seemed natural. My grandma used rosewater and glycerin. And so those were all normal to me. It just was normal.” Dedee Culley says she realized that there are two types of people, the ones that accept what the doctors say and what they say goes, and the ones that question things and wonder if there are better ways to go about something. She is definitely the type that questions, and wonders, and researches and tries to find the best way to solve something and the best way to certainly narrow down a diagnosis. She stated:“People like me who go, ‘Well, wait a minute, why are we doing this? Why do we have to do that? Why do we have to cut both ends off a ham when we cook it? Why do we do that?’ Those are the kind of things I'm always asking. And I always have gotten in trouble many times for asking why. People take that as you are questioning them, you're questioning their integrity and their character and their knowledge. And I'm like, No, I'm just asking the question. Because when we get right down to it, there might be another way.”A doctor once told her to not apologize for asking questions. She was motivated to do so and to dig deeper every time. She expected to have a simple life, ‘get married, raise a family, and bake some cookies’. But for her, there was more to life than that. She witnessed a cousin have a seizure, and she started asking questions… how, why. While at the time they could only do so much, they blamed immunizations. Her grandmother also helped her see alternative methods other than hardcore pills and medicines. While her grandmother had to be hospitalized for Alzheimer’s, her grandmother had to be knocked out because she was so agitated. But while she could visit, she felt a deep connection with her grandmother since she was able to calm her down with only the touch of her palms. She goes on to explain another amazing experience she had with her grandmother, “She’d be incredibly agitated. I could sit down on the couch, hold her hand, and we would just rub hands. And to this day, I can still feel that and she was totally calm. And she would look at me and I could see grandma. And I know there was that connection. I took a doll... She always took care of all of the babies in the family, all of the kids. So I took a baby doll up there. And she held that baby and she would feed that baby and she would cuddle and calm her down immediately. So no medications were required. You know, they didn't have to do all of those things. And it proved to me how it improved the quality of her life. But it made me question, Why do we do this? And then, of course, that was the thing that took me into nursing. That thing that the doctor told me, don't ever stop asking questions, that's how we learn, you know, and encouraged me. When I got into the hospital I was told, ‘No, you don't ask questions. We are the doctors.’ So I got that message. It wasn't long after I started in the hospital, I was probably two or three years into the hospital.”Her husband, on their fifth anniversary, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma. She goes on to share this tangible experience: “This is someone who is crazy healthy at the time he was diagnosed. He was actually training for a military marathon with his brother, he was in the Air Force. My husband is 26 years in the Army, and they were going to do a military marathon. And then this boom, all of a sudden seizures happen and we get this diagnosis. So we got that diagnosis after our five year anniversary. And I thought, ‘you know what, I'm just not cool with all of it, really. I need some other answers.’ And so I began asking why. I started really digging deep and do the research. And cannabis was the only thing that really has shown promise because it's able to penetrate the blood brain barrier. It's very selective in what it works synergistically with you. So there's a synergy between the brain cancer and the THC that it creates an environment that kills cancer cells. Yet it doesn't kill the good cells. I've read it also has this ability to help with the generation and regeneration of some of the healthy brain cells. So, that's huge.”In the midst of all these experiences, she found out about cannabis nursing (ACNA). She goes on to explain 2 Leaf Nurses: “So one of the things that we do at 2 Leaf nurses is not only teaching the body how It's designed to work. Well, what happens when it doesn't? And when you understand how your body is supposed to work, and you understand what happens when it doesn't, it also makes it much easier to understand how cannabis, or anything else, other supplements, other plants, and diet, how that may or may not help you, right? And I always say there are always those caveats that you can't do it. You know, they're just, they're just a certain kind of thing. So we learn about that, but then we take you to the next step of figuring out what you want, what you need, okay? Okay. I can't tell you that you need to smoke a flower. I can't tell you. You need to use a tincture. I can't tell you those things. Only you can make those decisions, right? You just need to be educated about what those things are.”As an incredible nurse with a passion for others, her own family structured her path to find holistic approaches, which indeed gave her and her family hope for a better life.“When you're looking at things holistically, it's not one thing; you have to look at the whole picture. So mind, body, and soul. So I have to think about his exercise, keeping him out getting him good energies, keeping his spirits up, giving him hope, and encouragement, but we also have to be cognizant of our diet and what we consume and the supplements and things like that. So, it's been a very, very broad approach. And I will say that for me to start a business, most of it was not in my game plan. I would have just assumed, ‘just stayed back and taking care of him, and let's call it good.’ That's not the way it was supposed to go apparently. And you know, a lot of the things that I have done, all started falling into place and wondering what I was supposed to do how I was supposed to do it. It all fell into place. And you know what? I just have to keep helping people. That is my calling, to help and to empower and educate people. So, there we have it.” Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/2-Leaf-Nurses-111026430353251/Instagram: https://instagram.com/2leafnurses?igshid=8zsfxtspce75LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/2-leaf-nurses-477b49196/Email: info@2leafnurses.comhttp://freebdworld.com/what-is-a-cannabis-nursehttps://mogreenway.com/2020/04/21/quality-of-life-vs-therapeutic-use-which-is-medical-marijuana-used-for/

I had the pleasure of having Brielle Izabelle join myself and co-host, Brooke Alisha on the podcast to discuss her lived experience as a young adult living with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex. Brielle is from New Jersey, is a college student at Fairleigh Dickinson and just launched a YouTube channel. This is the description she includes on her YouTube channel, linked below: “hey everyone! My names brielle Isabelle and I would love if you could join the bbsquad! Here I hope to talk about my disease Tuberous Sclerosis and raise awareness! I also want to make my channel super personal with Q&A’s, make up videos , pranks and more. CATCH UP ON SOME VIDEOS LIKE COMMENT AND MOST IMPORTANTLY SUBSCRIBE AND SHARE!”My co-host for this episode was Brooke Alisha, Brooke is our TSC Talks YouTube Vlogger and is an adult and parent living with TSC. She is also a TSC Advocate, Adult Regional Coordinator for Adult Support Region 5, LeVel Promotor. She has quite a story of challenges and hurdles, traumatic events, and heartache but also MUCH resilience, inner fortitude, a heart of love and hope and I was grateful to have her jump right in and contribute to this interview with her own insights and understanding of TSC related challenges and add another valuable perspective to our discussion. As a parent of three offspring with TSC who has been through quite a sampling of the TSC experience in terms of encountering ranges of manifestations, treatments, surgeries, medications, and interfacing with systems of care, I am always learning what I don’t know about another’s personal experience, and grateful to gain yet another glimpse of how others navigate and come through their own personal crises and come to understand and put in place a framework for moving forward and accepting the diagnosis without letting it define them. This was yet one more “schooling” I received on the many colors and faces of this complicated diagnosis.I am sharing some pertinent quotes that help illustrate the content we discussed. Brielle discussed her greatest challenges growing up with a TSC diagnosis, those being educational and mental health challenges. “You know, I've dealt with school situations, like bullying because of how intense it really was for me, I did struggle. But the school system that I was involved in, they were amazing. And I was able to be super successful in school. I went to my dream college, and education is the biggest way that this has impacted me. And now as an adult, or young adult, I think that it really affected me with my mental health, which is something that I had no idea it would. I think that since my whole life has been relatively stable, I didn't realize that okay, you know, there's other things that aren’t, which has been my mental health, anxiety and depression and things like that. So, I think my whole life, it's really just been my education. But now that I'm an adult, and I'm more in charge of my education, it's definitely my mental health and mental health awareness. So that's the biggest thing and it's affected me a lot to be honest with you”Brooke also shared her perspective on what Brielle mentions, also tying in TAND, which stands for Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Associated Neuropsychiatric Disorders; “I know like 80% of people deal with a mental illness and you know, sometimes you deal with it worse at different ages. I honestly didn't really pay attention to it when I was younger, because I didn't know, but watching my daughter struggle with the bullying and the IEP s and the learning and the therapists and all that stuff. It is very traumatic for someone to go through at any level. You talk very well, and you are very educated. Whoever has worked with you has done an amazing job. And I think that's incredible growth for you”Brielle underwent brain surgery at age 8 and states, “So I think that brain surgery was one of those things where I was sort of like, this is happening, you know, what is going to happen after this? How am I going to be impacted, I wasn't educated. All I knew was that, you know, one of my tumors in my brain needed to come out and it needed to come out as soon as possible. So, I think that being who I am today, as well, I could say that if I didn't have brain surgery, I wouldn't know who I was, either. Because that was like my, my greatest achievement, you know, to survive something so traumatic like that. A lot of people don't come out of that. So I'm so blessed. And I think that going through that and now being so healthy today, is something that is just amazing, something that I had to do something that I had to face, I couldn't go around it, I can wait a year for it to be done”Brooke added, “I'm really thankful you talked about the brain surgery. My daughter had it when she was three, but like, that's what she lives off of…” this happened to me.” I always tell her it does not define you. But it is so hard to get that out of their head when they go through so much stuff and like you said, you blocked things out.” I also would acknowledge how important it is to not let these major medical events that are outside of one’s control define, but give one a sense of passion and purpose having gone through something most people never experience, living through it, and owning the courage and bravery it takes to reorient and not let memory of these traumatic events hold one hostage. Brooke elaborates on her own challenges with the mental health aspects of TSC, “Nobody understood my mental illness, you know, they were supportive and they kept me going, but until I got older and really dealt with it, I was in my home and wouldn't leave, and it was a really bad place. I was alone, it was devastating to my life. So to see you at 21, just, you know, I know that there still rough days, but you're glowing, you're doing incredible. And I am so thankful that you're reaching out to these other girls. I know that's been a huge support for my daughter, having her camp friends that all had TSC to talk to because you do get very lonely, nobody understands you, they don't even know what to say to you. So they say nothing and then you're left in a hole, you know. So I'm really thankful to hear your story and to hear you rise up from all this. I think it's great. I know there's going to be tough days, like you said, there's no cure, but you have to like rise above that and you're doing very well. You're doing a really good job.”I would echo that statement and will wrap up with this quote from Brielle on how she came to use journaling and ultimately vlogging to help her process her experiences and cope, “Something that I was actually very opposed to doing because I was so in denial that it would help me is journaling. I had an empty journal in my room that my dad gave me, and I put it all the way in the back of the drawer. And I refused to even write my name. I didn’t even want to draw in it. I did not want to even think about putting my feelings down. And one day I was feeling so terrible. And I said, I just want to get this out, even if this is the first and last time that I write in it, and ever since that day, I have not stopped writing in it every single night. Just like Brooke said, I will write, “you got this now, tomorrow's gonna be better.” You know, ask yourself the question, like, let me know how tomorrow goes and then tomorrow I'll write down today. Especially now that I can't see my therapist, I need a means of releasing how I've been feeling and I actually made a video about anxiety and depression as well. Writing in the journal and giving yourself motivational words, you know, it doesn't have to be something cliche or something that someone else told you. It’s something that is individualized to you. So yeah, I write like 15 pages written ..or I'll write like three pages a day of just thoughts and thoughts. And sometimes my hand will cramp up and I'll say, wow, you know, today was a rough day. Just go for something. Because sometimes it's just, very hard”Both these two women are powerful examples of coping with some off the beaten path challenges that few will encounter in their lifetimes and both have chosen to accept the fact that they have this condition, are not letting it define them but remain grateful for being able to be here now and find joy, meaning despite the daily roller coaster of circumstance. Tools mentioned for coping are journaling, vlogging, connecting with others that can relate and a lot of self-love, self-compassion and reminders on the mirror of just how awesome they are. Because it is so true. I was inspired and moved listening to both of these women and am glad to share this episode with my own daughters, as well as many others within and without the TSC community, who have dealt with and are dealing with similar issues related to self-esteem, mental health, and staying positive in this crazy world we live in.This episode is dedicated to my friend Paul Collins who passed away recently. Paul was a unique and inspirational individual I met in the local 12 step program when I had hit a personal bottom dealing with addiction and mental health stressors that led to a serious psychotic break. Paul inspired me to live the wisdom of the saying, “you’re only as sick as your secrets” which in part inspired the creation and evolution of this podcast. Thanks for listening! TSC Talks! ON CBD: "Advanced Topical Solutions to Enhance Your Lifestyle" with Herb Tech Pharmaceuticals

Play Episode Listen Later May 19, 2020 26:27

In this episode, Laura and John from Herb Tech Pharmaceuticals join the podcast to discuss their new line of CBD topicals with Penetrating Topical CBD Phase-change Technology designed to be absorbed rapidly, provide relief and enhance your lifestyle. I enjoyed hearing about how their business got started and the passion this company has for bringing to market products that are first class. They have six different topicals, each infused with 1000 mg of CBD, and dose controlled so a pump delivers 20 mg. A bit of information how Herb Tech Pharmaceuticals came about: "Our development took a different pathway and having been focused on the pharmaceutical sector, specifically with drug delivery technology, and in fact, working with a specialty pharmaceutical development company in Boston mass that works on transdermal drug delivery technology, thought that the application of principles developed there with that technology could be directly applicable for CBD. One of the big problems obviously with CBD is that if you smoke it with all the problems with COVID-19 and everything else, obviously smoking is harmful to the lungs. If you are ingesting it, the onset of it is terrible and you've got to push the active components through the walls, into your stomach then you have first pass liver first effect and thereafter, in which case it's highly inefficient and can be problematic as well. Topicals and transdermals is could be an interesting pathway, it's safe, but you need technology to be able to get the CBD to the receptors, cannabidiol receptors. And when Laura approached me and said, Gee, is there a way we could use the technology or develop other technology that would allow us to create a company that could effectively create products to have the benefits of the CBD and other botanicals as well, but the advanced technology that allowed the CBD and the botanicals to interact much more efficiently with the human body, that's how our tech was born. We function on the same focus as really a pharmaceutical business, but just applied to CBD in botanicals."Laura goes on to explain further: "So currently, CBD, there's so many health benefits to it, we all know it. However, the side effects of current delivery methods don't overcome the benefits of the CBD. Smoking, the amount of CBD that's needed to ingest to have an effect, because again, as John mentioned, when your stomach sort of chews up most of the CBD in your stomach, you're actually getting very little into your system. And then there's a side effects of having such a high dose that you're having to take. So there's stomach upset. There's onset of action, it can have effect in 10 minutes, or it can be six hours, right? It's very unpredictable. So those two methods, they weren't efficient and they weren't working. So we said Wow, why can't we take all the wellness of botanicals, not just CBD, all herbal extracts, and really make them more effective, because we all want to use nature. But we have to be able to receive that nature, to receive it safely through the skin, which again, will not happen unless you have some sort of emulsion technology, it will just sit on the outer layer of the skin, that dead skin and it won't have an effect internally. So we're trying to create something that's only effective, but it's safe, and we've priced it so people can afford it. So I'm really excited to introduce this line of products to folks."Check out the video on our phase change technology: https://herbtechpharma.com/technology/Laura continues with a description of their product line: "There are a lot of products out there, one size fits all, take CBD for everything. Herbal extracts can help you in certain lifestyle situations throughout your day. So we created six different need states with other botanicals infused in this delivery system. One is "be sleepy" with melatonin, chamomile, lavender "be calm" with a St. John's wort. We have "be active" with white willow, which is a precursor to aspirin, for you know to put on muscles and joints. We have a "be intimate" which is very different. And that's again infused with Red Ginseng. We have "be healthy" and to "be empowered". And again all these are not just infused with botanicals but this is something that we're very proud of. 1000 Mg's of CBD hemp extract, and again just because someone says they have 1000 mg of extract You have no idea how much CBD is in that extract. You have no idea unless the manufacturer tells you and we tell you on our labels 80 to 95% pure, and then you go to our website, there's a QR code on our bottles. We're very proud of our labels, we're very clear and precise instructions. We again tell you there's 20 mgs per pump."On their very thorough manufacturing, testing, certification and validation process : "What we do is we actually contract with the CBD supplier, and we make sure that under contract, we have a guaranteed amount of CBD actually in it because the other missing link to this whole thing whether it's full spectrum or broad spectrum, how much of the CBD is actually in it. We have guarantees from our infuser, we balance these out with certified analysis, the flower, everything else on a full spectrum, but we guarantee and certify that we have 80 to 95% concentration of CBD in our full spectrum mix. So it's another level that we can guarantee to the consumer. Not only do we have all the parts of the plant, we have a guaranteed amount of CBD in it, and that's all certified. And in addition to that, I mean from a validation standpoint, you know, that's one aspect of what we do relative to the CBD, but the full panel analysis that we do is much more along a cgmp Type Certification process. Our bases for these products are manufactured in a cgmp facility. Basically that means that every aspect of the manufacturing process is validated with this double signature on all the the measurements and all the mixing steps. We then have that validated with microbiological challenge testing to make sure that that's not biologically contaminated. that then gets shipped to our CBD infuser partner who then will mix in blend in the CBD pursuant to our formulation. And then when it gets into full panel certification, we look for everything, we guarantee and certify the amount of actual CBD that's in it. We certify that it's in full compliance with the farm act, meaning that there's less than 0.3% THC in it. Then we make sure that it's full panel is none of the heavy metals and LEDs and other things. And we also do another microbiological challenge test, to make sure and confirm that in fact that there is no microbiological contamination. So when someone is getting our product, they're getting it validated from the very beginning, from the sourcing of all the raw materials that go into the base all the way to the final step, and every part in between."On the process of securing hemp: "Our hemp is sourced from one of the largest and oldest manufacturers and growers in Kentucky, which was around not just for the 2018 Farm Bill, but also for the original federal research pilot program in 2014. This is basically research grade hemp that's being grown and refined into what we believe to be and what's been demonstrated to certification to us, one of the most purest forms of CBD and hemp extract that's on the marketplace today. So just like our botanical extracts are naturally grown, every component of the formulas has been sourced from what we believe and continually verify to be the best product components available."I appreciated the thoroughness of this team in creating a product line that addresses many of the concerns and needs that people have when making a decision to try CBD. They gave meticulous detail of their phase change technology for rapid delivery and quick onset of action, the added botanicals which provide aromatherapy and synergy and contribute the the overall effectiveness of the product, their incredibly thorough testing and certification process, high quality hemp, precise dosage control, with a non greasy feel. I had the opportunity to try several of these products and will give my personal endorsement that they delivered excellent results!! As a runner who deals with chronic muscle pain, especially as I get older, the relief felt after utilizing the "be active" product eliminated the need for post run ibuprofen and other more toxic pain relievers. I highly encourage anyone out there looking for a high quality product, with some bells and whistles that you don't see for such a reasonable price, check any or all of this unique product line, asap!!"Our website is the best places to actually buy the product and to learn about the technology and the information to see about the validation, and watch the video. So we actually encourage people to go directly to the website. At the same token, we're in the process of increasing the number of retail locations that we have. And we're in the process of putting an affiliate program together as well that will basically allow us to have other people on the internet recommending the products to the friends and family."Herb Tech Pharmaceuticals Links:Website: https://herbtechpharma.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BetterOnCBD/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/betteroncbd/Twitter: https://twitter.com/BetterOnCBDPinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/herbtechpharma/CONTACT(978) 522 0049info@herbtechpharma.com

TSC Talks! Cannabis & Mental Health with Sherri Tutkus, RN, BSN, Founder & CEO, Green Nurse Group

Sherri Tutkus is the founder and CEO of GreenNurse Group, Nursing Director at Irie Bliss Wellness and host of GreenNurse on the Go Radio Show. Sherri is a cannabis nurse, patient and advocate. She earned her Bachelors in Science and Nursing from Boston College. She is highly skilled Registered Nurse with 30 years’ practical experience in various departments within the hospital and home setting. She is utilizing her expert nursing skills as a medical center specialist, clinical nurse liaison and educator to bridge the gap between patients and the cannabis community. Sherri has been educating and implementing holistic integrative healing modalities within her practice for over 20 years. She educates on the endocannabinoid system and the safe utilization of cannabis at dispensaries, hospitals, clinics, patients homes and she regularly does pop up events, seminars and expos. Sherri is an international speaker and she has contributed to the writing of the first cannabis nursing textbook with her cannabis nurse colleagues that will be available in nursing schools across the country. Sherri is a member of the American Cannabis Nurses Association and founding member of The Cannabis Nurses Network and was nominated as one of two nurses for “Health Professional of the Year” for the 2020 New England Cannabis Convention. Sherri brings passion and purpose to her work teaching bio-psycho-social-spiritual healing using cannabis as a tool.In this episode, Sherri shares from the annals of intensely personal experience detailing how her entire life went from one of a busy full time nurse, working in hospitals in Boston, single mother of three to becoming completely bedridden, dependent on others for care. She states, "I'm going to be a little bit transparent today. I think it'll be really helpful to talk from my own personal perspective in working with cannabinoid therapeutics and mental health in regards to my own mental health. So before I got sick in 2012 I had a history of migraines and ADHD-attention deficit disorder. Both of those were managed very well with medications, working full time as a nurse in the big teaching hospitals in Boston, three kids. I was highly functioning. When I took a hit from eating a bacteria while I was working I ended up in the intensive care unit, with a mega colon, an infectious disease, and it was really bad. So I got sick in 2012, took a hit to my gut. I went from high functioning to not functioning at all"From here Sherri lays out the journey back and how a fellow nurse at a particularly low point after she'd been put on 16 pharmaceuticals and was "circling the drain of despair", encouraged her to try cannabis as medicine. "I was on the other side of the bed, like in a really big bad way, all of a sudden I'm the patient and having to advocate for myself. So not only was it the physical issues that I had, but I also had to deal with the system, the system that I worked in, how is that going to affect my mental health and how are they going to take care of me? The trauma that I experienced from this illness is so overwhelming high functioning to not functioning, home- bed bound in the hospital- couldn't take care of my kids -could barely eat. I'm just gonna say it like it is explosive diarrhea, and nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, pooping your pants in public. So you can see how literally I can talk about anything. From running around the block naked to talking about poop and stuff that comes out your bum. I was so mortified, horrified that I had this gastrointestinal illness that was debilitating, complete loss of control, it was horrible. And then the issues with eating and being able to take in food. So that spiraled into, mental health issues, the developing anxiety and the depression. And over time, I wasn't getting better. I had agoraphobia, I was afraid to leave."And I'm going to tell you too, and this is the part of trauma that I'm really trying to help patients with now, when I'm working with them because I've been there. You know, I've been there. I call it medical trauma. And Pharmaceutical trauma. It was cannabinoid therapeutics that came into my life that really made the significant impactful change, that allowed everything that wasn't working to start working again and actually allowed me to start processing information from a different place because I was pulled out of the story of the sickness, the story or the trajectory of sickness. an illness. You know, it was the cannabinoids that actually opened the door that allowed everything that wasn't working to start working again."I was utilizing all of the other tools that existed. The traditional system, the holistic system, the functional integrative system, acupuncture, chiropractor, essential oils, homeopathy, you name it, and none of it worked. Why? Because my endocannabinoid system was completely 100% deficient. I was not making enough of my own internal endogenous cannabinoids to keep my system regulated including my brain""And so what it took was it was one of my nursing colleagues who had just retired. She was one of my patients because I do energy healing work. I do Reiki and Reconnective Healing and she was one of my clients from energy healing. She had been trying to get in touch with me and she had just turned 70 and I kept blowing her off. So she came to my house with a big giant, big fat joint. And she walked into my bedroom and I looked at her and I go, are you kidding me? I mean, is this a joke? Seriously, you're bringing me weed? Like, how is this gonna help me?"There's much more within this episode as Sherri goes into a lot of detail on various aspects of cannabis as medicine and how it works to restore homeostasis, what this means for so many conceivably impossible to treat conditions, how this has profound implications, for ushering in a new paradigm of modern medicine, bridging the gaps between traditional and alternative medicine with results, research and centuries of "anecdotal experience" evidencing profound efficacy and facilitating personal autonomy and decreased dependence on a broken healthcare system. For Sherri, these brutal series of experiences were the launching pad for what is now her business, Green Nurse Group and has led to her work as Medical Director of Irie Bliss Wellness. She has the opportunity to help others on their journey with cannabis. She discusses the personal stigma she had to overcome as well as challenges within her own family who were not initially supportive of her foray into the cannabis industry among other potential roadblocks so many of us experience as we advocate for what we know to be true about cannabis. It is a life saving plant that has the power to transform one's entire state of being. Sherri and Green Nurse Group as well as many other Cannabis Nurses, Doctors who are slowly starting to embrace cannabis and other professionals with whom Sherri inspires sit at the crossroads of this exciting yet also frustrating time in traditional medicine as the systems we have depended on for so long to help keep us alive and having quality of life are not leading to overall improved quality of life for more than not. One final quote from Sherri and then be sure to check out her links: "I honestly see this (cannabis as medicine) being integrated into mainstream medicine, but it's going to happen in the community first. So in other words, as healthcare professionals, a lot of cannabis nurses, including myself, the traditional healthcare system has failed us in multiple ways. Not only were surgeries denied, medications were denied. I had to fight for my for surgical procedures, the mental health system-completely broken. Bottom line is that a lot of systems that we medical professionals, especially cannabis nurses have come from, we've come from broken systems, and so we want to make it better. And how do we make it better? We start in our communities by educating and then there's going to be a critical mass eventually. It's going to happen and I've already seen it ...now I'm getting phone calls from more doctors asking, "Hey, what's the green nurse?" In this powerful episode, Mike Robinson, Founder, Global Cannabinoid Research Center, Cancer Survivor, Cannabis Advocate AND former registered Civil Rights lobbyist and non attorney that represented countless disabled children, discusses what's happened with Special Education services under a provision of the coronavirus relief package and why it's important to take action. Under A provision of the coronavirus relief package that passed at the end of March, Betsy DeVos had until Monday to recmmmend any additional waivers of federal education law to Congress. Already, states have been able to apply for waivers to skip annual tests and change how they spend certain federal education dollars. She issues no waivers. NO STATE has been given the authority to NOT educate special education individuals in the same manner they would regular education individuals or to make the same allowances, as per the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).https://edsource.org/2020/education-and-coronavirus-whats-the-latest/625119Education and the coronavirus crisis: What’s the latest?Under the federal Individuals With Disabilities Education Act, or IDEA, school districts must offer all students an equitable education or they are not supposed to offer it to any of them. Not many school systems have come up with a way to extend online learning and other critical services to the 7 million children with disabilities across the country. And some districts, because they cannot provide special education services at home, aren’t offering online instruction to any student. Now, there is tension between groups that advocate for these students — who each have an Individualized Education Program or IEP — and organizations that represent special education administrators. The advocates are demanding that school districts deliver education equitably, as the law requires, while administrators say they cannot do the same things they did when schools were open and need some flexibility.Education Secretary Betsy DeVos won’t recommend giving school districts the option to bypass major parts of federal special education law, the department announced Monday. The move will be celebrated by disability rights advocates, who had feared that giving districts any wiggle room could pave the way for a more permanent undoing of civil rights for the country’s nearly 7 million students with disabilities.https://www.chalkbeat.org/2020/4/27/21239124/no-special-education-waivers-betsy-devos-congress-recommendations-ideaTo file a complaint with OCR: https://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ocr/docs/howto.htmlQuestions: https://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ocr/qa-complaints.htmlThank you Mike Robinson for your advocacy and education on this crucial action that can and should be taken by any and all for whom special education services have been stymied or non existent. TSC Talks! Addiction Is Not A Disease, with Marc D. Lewis, Ph.D., Neuroscientist, Professor Emeritus, Author

“If we are to understand anything so complex and troubling as addiction, we need to gaze directly at the point where experience and biology meet. Because that’s the bottleneck, the linchpin, where human affairs are cast and crystallized. That’s where the brain shapes our lives and our lives shape the brain” Marc D. Lewis, Ph.D.I had the honor and pleasure of interviewing Marc. D. Lewis on TSC Talks to discuss his life and work with the focus of the conversation on how he developed his understanding of addiction, and how he debunked the more traditional theory that addiction is indeed a disease. Marc is a neuroscientist, recently retired full professor of developmental psychology, at the University of Toronto from 1989 to 2010, and at Radboud University in the Netherlands from 2010 to 2016. He is the author or co-author of over 50 journal publications in psychology, cognitive science, and neuroscience, editor of an academic book on developmental psychology, and co-author of a book for parents. More recently he has written two books on the science and experience of addiction.I heard Marc on a podcast several years ago after reading his blog, https://memoirsofanaddictedbrain.com. I was a few years into recovery from substance abuse addiction and struggling with many of the traditional modes of treatment. As a parent of children with some extra challenges case managing their TSC related care post-divorce, I was buoyed when I heard Marc discussing his 2nd book, The Biology of Desire, Why Addiction is Not a Disease (2015)which claims “the scientific facts don’t support the disease model of addiction. Rather, addiction, like romantic love and other emotionally loaded habits, develops through deep learning and limited alternatives. Combining scientific views with intimate biographies of addicts who recovered, the book also shows how addiction can be overcome, through self-directed change in one’s goals and perspectives.” Having felt more validated in my own personal experience knowing that there were multiple factors personally at play that led to my own demise, I went and started reading more of his blog and research. Viewing myself as victim of a disease while at the same time having to maintain a somewhat subservient stance to wrangle the services necessary to help our family recover from years of ongoing traumas, was almost too much to bear. I simply could not accept the idea that I had a disease and as I chose to navigate away from that model of understanding, including delving into cannabinoid medicine, I was finally able to intimately integrate past present and future in a way that I could truly climb out of many self-limiting beliefs reinforced by this notion. Clinging to the disease model of addiction was limiting and I have to say, Marc’s work has made a tangible impact on my own and so many others who have had less than typical experiences for which the confines of traditional recovery methods led to deeper despair and frustration. I’m including a bit more information from Marc’s bio along with some quotes that highlight might be helpful and lead you to download and/or at least listen to this fabulous chat. Beginning during his undergraduate years in Berkeley, California, Marc experimented with a large variety of drugs, eventually becoming addicted to opiates. He moved to Toronto in 1976 and began to study psychology at the University of Toronto, but at the same time encountered serious personal and legal troubles resulting from his addiction. After quitting drugs at age 30, he continued his graduate education in developmental psychology. He received a Ph.D. and license to practice psychology in 1989, and he was appointed to the position of assistant professor the same year.Around 2006, Marc’s research led him back to addiction, this time as a neuroscientist studying the brain changes that accompany addiction and recovery. His 2011 book, Memoirs of an Addicted Brain, blends his life story with a user-friendly account of how drugs (from LSD and alcohol to speed and heroin) affect the brain and how alterations in brain function help explain addiction. His more recent book is The Biology of Desire: Why Addiction is Not a Disease (2015), and it has stirred controversy among people with addictions, their families, addiction researchers, and treatment providers.” “The fact is that we in the West embrace the logic of pigeonholing problems, giving them unique names and finding technical solutions-the more targeted the better-for alleviating them. That is, to a T, the logic of Western medicine.” We also discussed the impact of social distancing and quarantine measures on those that might be struggling with addiction during this global pandemic. Please note Marc’s links to social media as well as multiple articles, videos that might be helpful and illuminating for anyone currently struggling.“What often goes together with addiction is a kind of narrowing of the social world, you get your needs for soothing and satisfaction or pleasure from a substance. You do not need to connect as much. So, the social world kind of shrinks around you. And before long, you kind of lose the opportunity, you lose the availability of other people, you lose friends, you lose family, you kind of, you know, you kind of bury yourself in a little hole in the ground, where you have your substance and you have maybe a couple of other people around you that also are involved in substances That's it. The Coronavirus also is pushing us to burrow into a shrinking environment. We are sitting there at home by ourselves. And people are just losing even more the opportunity to connect outside of themselves, to extend their, their social web and to extend their possible the availability of getting your needs met by other people and other activities. So that in itself, I think is just the built-in hardship of this lockdown phase that we're in.”If you or a loved one or anyone in your circles is feeling at risk and struggling with mental health issues, please don’t hesitate to call National Suicide Prevention Lifeline https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/ 1-800-273-8255.Marc’s links are as follows:Website: https://memoirsofanaddictedbrain.com YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQvHfB1Kg4zStk5YwMYWH9Q Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_David_Lewis ResearchGate: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Marc_Lewis3 The Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2015/aug/30/marc-lewis-the-neuroscientist-who-believes-addiction-is-not-a-diseaseVideos that are awesome! https://youtu.be/aOSD9rTVuWc Addiction and Trust: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3p_LuTM73k With Dalai Lama: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZgx-6GOBAs Order His Books!: https://www.memoirsofanaddictedbrain.com/buy-biology-of-desire/ https://www.memoirsofanaddictedbrain.com/buy-it/

Leigh Zarda Carr, R.N., BSN, is a mother of 2, business owner, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Bleeding Kansas Advocates, Contributing Writer at The Evolution Magazine and Cannabis Nurse Consultant at Kansas City Cannabis Company. The name of her business is Hari Om Hemp. “It began as an idea when they both Leigh and husband Dustin noticed the many benefits that Leigh saw from CBD herself. It was not till Dustin and Leigh’s son was diagnosed with special needs that they really found the need to start their own CBD company when they could not find one that was open and honest as they would like.” To learn more: https://hariomhemp.com/Leigh shares the experience she had with her son who stopped talking, stopped walking correctly, he kept falling over, he stopped eating the foods he loved, and his behavior completely and radically changed following his 15 month vaccines. Leigh followed the pediatrician’s recommendations, sought various therapies, many not covered by insurance and continued to hope that her son would start to improve. That did not happen despite brush offs from her doctor who kept telling Leigh, that “he is a boy and boys are different”. Finally, at the end of her rope, she began to dig deeper and do her own research which led this nurse, extensively trained in traditional medicine, to question everything she had been taught. Leigh has had the lived experience working in traditional medicine, spent time doing pharmaceutical research, and worked in an ER for quite a while Her last bedside nursing job was at a very prestigious hospital in the Kansas City area in a pediatric unit, doing well child visits for an entire year and was trained on vaccines. I am sharing Leigh’s Facebook post from March 31st, 2020, the 5 year anniversary of her son receiving his 15 month vaccinations here and following this post is a list of resources that can be found publicly related to vaccines and topics mentioned in our interview. I am glad to report that after breaking away from traditional medicine, Leigh found a combination of treatments and therapies in the alternative medicine that have helped her son significantly. At his last IEP meeting she reported that he no longer qualifies for any services but speech! Leigh wants to emphasize, “this is not to attack those that do vaccinate and not to attack me who I have chosen not to continue to vaccinate mine for medical reasons. This is a post to hopefully wake a few people up to the harmful dangers of vaccines. Please don’t find out your child has the MTHFR gene mutation the way I did. Do your homework and make sure you have informed consent and ask for the vaccine insert the next time you are at your pediatrician's office and look at this list of side effects, again another thing I was not shown nor taught in nursing school.”“Thank you to all those who wished me a Happy Birthday yesterday but this birthday was different for me this year. Yesterday I was reminded in my timehop of the day that will permanently be in my head forever. I’ve thought about how I would say this a million times but it never gets easier to tell a story that has caused you so much pain and suffering. On March 31st of 2016 5 years ago my husband and I took our son into his WELL child visit for his 15 months vaccines, little did I know that this would be the beginning of a really long road ahead of us.Within 3 months after my son’s vaccines he stopped talking words he knew how to communicate simple words like dog, hi and bye, he stopped eating foods he loved and would request, his balance became weak and he would fall over all the time. What unfolded over the next two years was mind boggling and I will not go into detail how many doctors we saw and how much money we spent on out of pocket therapies but it was 5 figures. There were two times I went to the pediatrician telling him that something was wrong and different with my child and both times I was told he is just a boy and that boys are hyper and are picky eaters. Well he was wrong. My son was not a picky eater prior to his 15 month vaccines and he was the sweetest kindest most loving little boy.As a mother and a nurse I dug deeper for answers, scientific answers because that is my training to look at double blind placebo studies and credible sources.. I wanted to know why my son had 8 ear infections within one year after his 15 month vaccines and why he no longer could talk and why we were in speech therapy and still are to this day. What I have uncovered since keeps me awake at night, makes me question all my training that I had as a nurse and how we were taught and drilled in our heads that vaccines are safe and effective. I went on to find out that Vaccines were anything but that and have not been studied for the last 30 year and that all manufacturers are protected from any law suits. Had they been safe I would not be where I am today telling the story I am. Not only have they not been studied but do yourself a favor and take a look at the ingredients in them. Your mind will be blown just like mine, again not something we are ever taught about in nursing school nor during my training on vaccines at a pediatric office (a very well known and prestigious one). This post is not to attack those that do vaccinate and not to attack me who I have chosen not to continue to vaccinate mine for medical reasons. This is a post to hopefully wake a few people up to the harmful dangers of vaccines. Please don’t find out your child has the MTHFR gene mutation the way I did. Do your homework and make sure you have informed consent and ask for the vaccine insert the next time you are at your pediatrician's office and look at this list of side effects, again another thing I was not shown nor taught in nursing school.I wish you all the best and want nothing more than to see children succeeding in schools and free of pharmaceuticals. If you are someone you know resonate with this post please reach out. I am here to talk, here to listen, here to help, my ears and arms are open. There is so much more to our story and I plan to share it with you all. Nolan has been on a long road to healing his injury and we are so hopeful in his healing journey. We actually even had his IEP meeting this week and were told he no longer qualifies for any services but SPEECH! This is amazing and we are so excited by the leaps and bounds he is making and cannot wait till the day that we can say he is healed! Nikki Lawley~Nikki Lawley, Cannabis Advocate and EducatorTraumatic brain injury stole my joy, but cannabis returned it.Nikki, a NY state resident, has always been a proud and diligent worker. She’s served as an HVAC filtration salesperson, later starting her own company, then as a casino dealer, and most recently, as a pediatric nurse. She had suffered two traumatic brain injuries during her younger years, but it was the third TBI that suddenly changed everything. In a heartbeat, her life changed from one of optimism, vibrancy, enthusiasm, confidence, and extroversion, to one of constant pain, withdrawal, depression, and hopelessness. While trying to help administer a routine vaccine to a young boy, Nikki was thrown against the wall, suffering a significant TBI and cervical instability in the process. Nikki’s TBI has caused cognitive deficiencies, confusion, memory loss, anxiety, and pain. She found herself unable to work, unable to interact with others, and in a very dark place. None of the numerous traditional medications she’s tried helped, and if fact, their ghastly side effects left her even worse off.She had long since reached the end of her rope, when, on a whim, figuring she had nothing more to lose, she turned to cannabis. https://linktr.ee/NikkilawleyNikki's episode on TSC Talks: https://tsctalks.com/tsc-talks-guest-nikki-lawley/4. A frank discussion with John D. Brigham partner/boyfriend of the host of TSC Talks, Jill Woodworth on his experience moving in with our family dealing with extreme circumstances TSC related, trauma-related. How we made it work and how we're coping now. We will cover TAND, behavior mgmt issues, relationship challenges, and strategies, cannabinoid medicine and coping. All are welcome, participation encouraged. JD Brigham is from way up north in VT, has a background in healthcare IT, has a son from a previous relationship, a long time cannabis enthusiast and one of the most incredible humans I know.John or JD as they know him in Newport, Vermont, where he was born, is a man of few- but carefully chosen words. A highly skilled programmer in the medical/healthcare industry, he also recently worked as a technology teacher at Stetson School in Barre, MA, a school for behaviorally challenged young boys/men. Harnessing the life lessons learned early from growing up in a large family with working parents who passed on a depth of inner wisdom, perseverance, and commitment that John has tapped and utilized well to help "crack the code" of my offspring's TSC associated neuropsychiatric disorders (TAND) and many other challenges that are inevitable in any relationship where there's more than just two people involved, but particularly one where several children have issues that fall outside of the margins of typical. Oh and John also loves skiing, football, and Animé

In Part 2 of this episode of TSC Talks, I spoke to Liz Minda, RN and Mike Robinson, former TSC Talks guest, drops in for the second half of our conversation. Liz has three children, one of whom has significant special needs and issues related to epileptic seizures. Liz strongly believes her daughter’s issues are pharma injuries and we discuss that and the treatment protocol. Liz had her children later in life; her son was born when she was 48 and her twin daughters were born when she was 50. She had normal uneventful pregnancies and her children were all born healthy. All was well until, at 18 months old, one of her daughters developed a fever after her MMR/DPT vaccine. That was when she had her first seizure. Liz’s daughter had no further seizures until she was 4. When the seizures came back, they were severe grand mal status epilepticus seizures. Liz hesitated to medicate her daughter because as an RN, she was aware of the difficulty of finding an effective medicine as well as the myriad of side effects anti-seizure meds can cause. When the seizures continued, they eventually started meds which began a cycle of seizures increasing in both frequency and duration. In addition to meds, they put the child on the ketogenic diet. The grueling regimen did not help her seizure activity. Liz was desperate after even the rescue med Diastat began to fail to control the seizures. Liz got her daughter into the Epidiolex study at Mass General and her daughter’s seizures diminished for a few months, but they returned. When the seizures started again, doctors increased her pharmaceuticals which restarted the med, seizure pattern. Liz grew frustrated with the medical establishment who seemed determined to throw prescription after prescription at them at great financial, physical and emotional cost. She found a neuro-epileptologist who helped her begin weaning her daughter from some of the prescription meds and helped her transition to Charlotte’s Web. Liz connected with Mike Robinson online and Mike and others in the Compassionate Cannabis world assisted Liz in finding a balanced cannabinoid medicine that worked for her daughter. Mike and Liz discuss Epidiolex and the pharmaceutical interactions which do not seem to be compensated for when using that med. Liver issues can be serious when Epidiolex or any type of CBD is combined with certain medications. Mike shares, “Even though we were using the Charlotte's Web, Charlotte's Web wasn't enough to help us get off. We needed something stronger. We needed the Rick Simpson oil or full extract cannabis oil to get her off. Because we only had you know, once you get down to the miniscule doses of the pharmaceuticals, now you're really up against you know, fighting seizures, because you go with a really slow business and that's pretty much where we've stepped in, you know, it's right with the actual compassion provision.”Both Mike and Liz believe vaccine injury is real. We ask you to keep an open mind while listening. Before you form an opinion, walk a mile with Liz and Mike, hear their stories and then decide. Liz comments, “and then people say, vaccines don't cause autism? Yes, they do, and here's why. When the brain heats up and you get a fever, you've got brain on fire” and she believes that “brain on fire” condition causes both seizures and autism. TSC Talks is not pro or anti vaccine but believes each parent should make the decision they believe is best for their child. TSC Talks! The State of Birth-Before & During COVID-19 with Corrine Pellard, Jodi Chapin & Jessica Petrone

I had the honor of speaking to three accomplished women about the current state of birth both locally and nationally. We discuss the increasing interest in home births, the advantages and disadvantages of home versus hospital births and how those expecting, or expecting to be expecting, can best prepare especially with the extra consideration of Covid19. Corrine Pellard is an Empath, Psychic Medium and Reiki Master. She is also a mom of two and tells us about her experience of both a hospital birth and an at-home birth. Corrine discusses the lack of control over the birthing experience that she experienced with her first child. She discusses being considered high risk because of her age and weight and how the entire birth experience was centered around preconceived notions based on the masses and not her individually. She was induced, unnecessarily in her view, was sick from the drug used to induce and delivered by cesarean section. She shares, “It was traumatic, and my healing my first two months of being a mother was physically painful and my anxiety post, I had postpartum anxiety to a very severe degree.” When Corrine became pregnant again, she knew she wanted a different birthing experience. She found Birth Matters and decided to try a natural, vaginal delivery at home. Jodi Churchill Chapin has been a Registered Nurse for 32 years, most of which she has spent in Labor and Delivery. Jodi discusses bridging the traditional birth and hospital procedures with less traditional therapies such as Reiki. Jodi states, “And we incorporated, you know, you're there, you’re exchanging energy. It's how the patient uses her energy and is able to focus on the birth process. And I think what’s important is that being able to balance, you know, following policy and procedure, but also carrying out the patient (and) the family's wishes of how they envisioned birth. I mean birth is, you know, one of those things, it's like, even planning a wedding, you look forward to this one day you plan you plan you plan, you think it's going to go one way and then plans change on a dime. And how it's handled can make it or break it.”Jessica Petrone is a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM), RN and BSN who has been in practice for 13 years. Her practice saw a record number of home births last year and Jessica believes that number will continue to grow. She relates, “But I think specifically in the last couple of years, there seems to be a shift in people just taking charge of their health care even in the medical setting. There's more conscious awareness, practices and practitioners breaking away from the traditional systems and framework but yeah, we love home birth. We do a lot of water birth we work with a lot of different practitioners to enhance really healthy pregnancies. We absolutely consult with medical providers when it's necessary.” Corrine shared about her experience with Jessica and Birth Matters, “So, I will say one of the biggest differences that I noticed on my very first appointment with a Birth Matters in the home birth midwives is they asked my consent, which nobody asked my consent. I mean, sure I signed forms but before touching me, nobody offered before examining me, nobody asked permission to touch my body.”The conversation continues to the state of birth currently with the threat of COVID19. Jodi discusses the difficulty of taking the necessary precautions in the time of a pandemic while trying to connect with an expectant mom during the labor and delivery process. “This Covid19 has put a huge damper on healthy women wanting to come in to have their normal birth. Especially right now, today. Anybody and everybody walking into the hospital or around the hospital has to wear a mask. You cannot take that mask off anytime you are on hospital property that includes in the labor room, that includes the patient that includes the patient's one person that's helping them with birth, there are no visitors allowed, no children, family, nobody else. The only person allowed in the room is the one that will be wearing that second baby bracelet that's given out when a baby's born. I mean, labor, you're breathing with women, you're teaching. I mean, it's all about the closeness. How do you socially distance yourself from somebody who needs your support, your encouragement, your empowerment?” Jessica discusses the fact that more women are considering home births currently. “The influx of inquiries is so unexpected, I can't keep up. I'm getting probably 10 emails a day, which it is impossible for us to entertain the idea of taking all these women on. And that's true of a lot of midwives across the state, really. Not everybody is a good candidate. I mean most people probably inquiring last minute. We had yesterday, a woman inquire and she's due March 30. That's like, less than a week from now. If people are making choices out of fear and panic it is not what's happening, and whenever we get an inquiry that somebody is so afraid of the hospital and so afraid of other providers and afraid of needles, I mean, we all encounter that in patient care, but they may not be a great candidate. But that's not what's happening right now. These are women that are realizing that their birth plan, what they thought they were going to experience in the hospital, is drastically different and there is obviously a great concern about becoming sick and being exposed but a lot of the women are making the choice based on the fact that their support person might not be able to be present with them.” Jessica recommends that women do their research before opting for a home birth. I am grateful to these remarkable women for sharing their wisdom. Corrine Pellard is an Empath and a Psychic Medium. Even as a small child, Corrine has had a special insight into other people’s emotions. Beginning in her early teenage years, her intuition would alert her when something important was about to occur, either for herself or a loved one. At age 14, Corrine began using the wisdom of Tarot Cards to enhance her psychic connection. As years went on, Corrine became more aware of her ability as her readings became more accurate and her predictions began to materialize. At the age of 30, she began having premonition dreams. After seeking the guidance of her Shaman, she came to accept that she is an Empath & an Intuitive. Corrine is a natural healer, using her Empathy, Intuition, and Reiki to heal others emotionally, spiritually, and physically. Corrine is also able to mediate communication between people who are no longer living to those who still are. She offers private readings and hearings and in-home parties. She is a wedding officiant offering custom designed ceremonies. Her true passion is teaching others to honor their own abilities and helping others heal themselves.Beyond the Gate508-690-0444gobeyondthegate@gmail.comhttps://www.gobeyondthegate.com/https://www.buzzsprout.com/865777/2868628-sobriety-as-an-empath-corrine-s-story Jodi Churchill Chapin has been a Registered Nurse for 32 years. She has an extensive background in women’s health as a labor and delivery nurse and has also worked in oncology. She resides in Framingham with her husband of 25 years. Together, they have 3 children ranging from middle school age to college, 2 dogs, 2 cats and a bunny named Kiwi. Jodi firmly believes that vulnerability is to be met with compassion, respect, and active listening to ensure that her patients have the very best outcomes. She credits her extensive nursing career and healer background with these virtues and skills. Jodi is also a Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki Level II Practitioner. Through this healing art, Jodi may be able to help people who are struggling with a wide range of health conditions such as headaches, insomnia, back pain, cancer, heart disease, chronic pain, depression, anxiety, and may even be used to help in the recovery from injuries and surgery. As an active member of the American Cannabis Nurses Association and a GNG team member, she helps advocate for people who choose to use cannabis as a complementary or alternative treatment, providing education, insight, guidance, and support in the process. https://www.greennursegroup.com/our-teamhttps://www.emedevents.com/speaker-profile/jodi-churchill-chapin https://green-nurse-sandbox.iriebliss.com/green_nurse_staff/jodi-chapin/ Jessica Petrone, CPM, RN, BSNJessica's experience in birth includes her work as a doula, her completion of a 3 year midwifery apprenticeship in a very busy home birth practice and being a mother of four, with the last being an unassisted home birth attended only by her husband and herself. Her own births led her to become a doula which led her to become an apprentice and, in turn, a midwife. But that’s the abbreviated version! Jessica has been attending home births since 2006. She is co-president of the Massachusetts Midwives Alliance, a member of ALACE (Association of Labor Assistants and Childbirth Educators), and a member of the Birth Year Network (a Southeastern Mass, Cape and Islands Birth Resource Network). She holds certifications in CPR and Neonatal Resuscitation. She completed her formal education remotely through the National College of Midwifery in Taos, New Mexico, where she earned a degree in the Science of Midwifery. Most recently, Jessica has completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, which included a 6-month preceptorship in a high volume/high risk maternity unit at Massachusetts General Hospital. https://homebirthmatters.com/about/jessica-petrone/https://www.modernmamamidwifery.com/the-midwives http://bostonvoyager.com/interview/meet-jessica-petrone-sarafina-kennedy-birthmatters-llc-boson/ Supplemental Article: https://nypost.com/2020/03/23/pregnant-women-share-what-its-like-to-be-expecting-during-coronavirus-pandemic/
