Named after the back seat of his family's car where he recorded the vocals to his early albums, Will Toledo's solo-project-cum-band Car Seat Headrest went from Bandcamp indie-darlings to headlining Coachella in a relatively short time. This week's guest, musician/songwriter Brendan Wright (Tiberius), brings us CSH's transitional 2014 release - and final one before signing to Matador - 'How To Leave Town'. Brimming with both existential doubt and unbridled wanderlust, the record works as a dark, witty soundtrack to coming-of-age in the 2010's. Songs discussed in this episode: Running Up That Hill (Kate Bush cover) - Car Seat Headrest; Sag - Tiberius; Cherries - Tiberius Wright; Fill In The Blank, Not What I Needed - Car Seat Headrest; Dramamine - Modest Mouse; The Ending Of Dramamine - Car Seat Headrest; Bus Ride - Naked Days; Beast Monster Thing, Tybee Island Horse Ghosts, Kimochi Warui (When? When? When? When? When? When? When?) - Car Seat Headrest; Big Business Monkey - Daniel Johnston; I-94 W (832 Mi), You're In Love With Me, America (Never Been) - Car Seat Headrest; Felt - Tiberius; I Want You to Know That I'm Awake / I Hope That You're Asleep, Is This Dust Really from the Titanic?, Hey, Space Cadet (Beast Monster Thing in Space) - Car Seat Headrest; Over The Neptune/Mesh Gear Fox - Guided By Voices; The Catastrophe (Good Luck With That, Man) - Car Seat Headrest; Painting Of A Tree - Tiberius

A flood vehicle, or flood-damaged car, is a vehicle that has been partially or fully submerged in water, leading to significant and potentially hidden damage to its body, engine, and electronics. These vehicles often receive a "salvage" or "flood" title, which should be disclosed by sellers. Hurricane Katrina flooded and damaged an estimated 500,000 to 600,000 vehicles along the Gulf Coast, with about 300,000 vehicle insurance claims filed due to the storm. Efforts were made to identify and destroy these water-damaged cars, but thousands still resurfaced on the used car market, sometimes with hidden damage.Email the show: auto@mpbonline.orgRecalls: Check for Recalls: Vehicle, Car Seat, Tire, Equipment | NHTSANews: What Is Hydroplaning, And What Should You Do If It Happens?Auto Casey Car Review: 2026 Subaru Solterra | Short take Hosted on Acast. Will Toledo, vocalist for Seattle-based Car Seat Headrest, wanted the band’s latest release to be a concept album in the tradition of a rock opera. The Scholars delivers just that: strong storytelling within each of its nine tracks, inventing characters in a “fictional America,” attesting to the human search for meaning inside and outside of ourselves. Toledo stopped by KEXP earlier this year to speak with Midday Host Cheryl Waters. He opens up about going back on tour after suffering from the effects of long COVID and the album's collaborative songwriting process. “There’s only so much you can say about yourself before it stops getting interesting,” Toledo says in the interview. “Having this concept of characters helped a lot. It’s me giving a sincere portrait of someone I can relate to rather than it being me.” Car Seat Headrest is one of the headlining bands at Bumbershoot 2025, taking place August 30 and 31 at Seattle Center. Ever had an idea so specific that everyone told you it wouldn't work? Nelson Nigel heard that too, right before scaling his niche startup, Kidmoto, to over 60 cities across the U.S. Nelson is the founder and CEO of Kidmoto, a reservation-based ride service that provides pre-installed child car seats for families traveling to and from airports.  After surviving a life-threatening train accident at age 13 and later working as a NYC cab and Uber driver, Nelson spotted a critical gap in the rideshare market – one that Uber and traditional taxis weren't solving. So, with just $600 and relentless energy, he built a solution parents now rely on nationwide. What Happens When You Build a Business Around One Clear Problem Most ride services leave families on their own when it comes to car seats, creating travel stress and safety risks. Nelson shares how identifying this single, overlooked pain point helped Kidmoto stand out in a crowded market. By going all-in on solving this one issue, he built a business that serves a specific type of customer better than anyone else. How to Grow Without Investors, Funding, or a Tech Background No VC backing. No glamorous startup story. Nelson built everything from the ground up – outsourcing tech, mastering content marketing, and learning to prioritize the right problems at the right time. If you've ever wondered whether you really need outside funding to grow, Nelson's story is proof that focus, grit, and great execution can take you further than you think.
