Hey everybody I'm Ryan and welcome back to Eggs! This week we have a unique episode for you going back in time to feature one of my favorite interviews from the past. Why you ask? For people who didn't catch last week's show, for the next little bit, approximately 12 weeks, we're going to be doing things a little differently. As discussed at length on last week's show, my favorite co-host and yours, Mike, has begun and is now up to his eyeballs in an exciting new adventure. Mike is presently taking part in a super-intensive web development Bootcamp as part of a big career pivot he's exploring. Off-air he and I have talked and he's explained he's presently programming from 10 AM to midnight, between classwork and homework, and recording this show at our regular cadence simply isn't doable for him. That said, we are working diligently to put together some fun programming for you and take advantage of this break in our regularly scheduled program. More on that in the coming weeks, but let's chat about today's drop. Today we are going way back in time to July 2019 for one of my all-time favorite interviews with the author, speaker, and philanthropist, Michael G. Dash. Program, can learn from his experience.I am really excited to share this show with new listeners who may have missed it, and even more for those OGs who have heard it but could benefit from hearing it again. So, without further adieu, join me in going all the way back to a pre-COVID world, July 11, 2019, for a conversation with Michael G. Dash. As a seasoned life entrepreneur, I have been through many highs and lows! From building and selling a $5.5 million a year company to writing my book, and Amazon best-seller, "Chasing the High," I have mad understanding and respect for the grind. Today, my message is simple: Being an entrepreneur can be challenging and isolating at times, and it is tempting to self-soothe with substances– trust me– I get it, I had addictions that lasted 20+ years. The road to recovery has taken me to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, run four marathons & raise over $100K for The Leukemia Lymphoma Society, start the non-profit "Activated.Life" and launch my interview series "F.A.T.E. – From Addict To Entrepreneur." https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaelgdash/

With our guest this episode, we meet best-selling author, recovering addict, mentor, and speaker, Michael Dash. Michael felt in his early life that money meant success, and with his drive to meet that dream, he became ensnared in a vicious cycle of addictions such as gambling and various drugs. Michael shares his story with Lance as he realized he started resenting his million-dollar company lifestyle as he did not feel fulfilled. Michael reveals to Lance his stories of lawsuits, learning new mindsets, allowing himself to feel his intuition, and creating F.A.T.E, a program created for entrepreneurs or business leaders with addictive behaviours to regain control of their lives. Listen intently as Michael shares his story and the steps he took to take back his life.
Michael Dash was successful in the conventional sense of the word. He was making a lot of money running a staffing business, but he was a miserable human. He started every day by popping an Adderall, and he felt like his company was running him—instead of the other way around. And though he was cynical about self-development, he couldn’t help but ask, ‘Would it be so bad to life a different way?’ Michael is the seasoned entrepreneur behind MD Coaching and Mentoring, a practice dedicated to helping business owners take their revenue to the next level. He is also the bestselling author of Chasing the High: An Entrepreneur’s Mindset Through Addiction, Lawsuits, and His Journey to the Edge and the creator of FATE (From Addict to Entrepreneur), a program designed to help people take control of their compulsive behaviors and step into the leader they were born to be. On this episode of the podcast, Michael joins us to share his experience with a gambling addiction and his journey as an entrepreneur, explaining why multiple seven-figure success in the recruiting industry did not bring him fulfillment. He discusses how we’re programmed by societal norms to follow a certain path and why he was skeptical about self-development concepts like manifesting, flow and intuition. Listen in for insight on Michael’s four-step process for getting aligned with your true purpose—from self-recognition to curiosity to action to community. Key Takeaways How Michael developed a gambling addiction at the age of 11 Michael’s first foray into entrepreneurship as a bookie + drug dealer Michael’s success building a company in the recruiting industry How Michael separated gambling and drug use from his career The surprising reason Michael attended his first Gamblers Anonymous meeting How Michael’s side hustle hiring reps for E*TRADE Financial grew into a new business How to break free of the societal norms that program us to follow a certain path Michael’s introduction to the ideas of flow, manifesting and intuitive energy How self-development work helped Michael shift the way he makes decisions How money proved to be Michael’s biggest addiction of all Michael’s 4-step process for getting aligned with your true purpose Connect with Michael Michael’s Website Michael on Facebook Michael on Instagram Connect with Jeremiah & Mallory Destined to Be Jeremiah on LinkedIn Jeremiah on Facebook Jeremiah on Instagram Mallory on Instagram Resources Chasing the High: An Entrepreneur’s Mindset Through Addiction, Lawsuits, and His Journey to the Edge by Michael G. Ep #11 - Michael Dash joins me on the show this week to share about his journey from addict to 7-figure entrepreneur and the tactics and strategies he learned along the way. I first met Michael through the Young Entrepreneurs Council which only admits 7-figure business owners. In our interview today, we will discuss his philosophy for scaling a business and we will get into his story and new book, "Chasing the High." Having dealt with addiction throughout his life and having sold his business after 11 years, Michael is now committed to supporting other entrepreneurs and business leaders to deal with addiction and addictive behaviors, especially when these behaviors are impacting an ability to lead a business and injuring personal relationships. This is why Michael wrote his new book, "Chasing the High," which unpacks his personal journey through addiction, entrepreneurship, legal battles, and how he discovered FLOW. Michael has recently created a platform called F.A.T.E. (From Addict To Entrepreneur) which is designed to help others in the entrepreneurship and business community to overcome their addictive behaviors and to be able to fulfill their potential as leaders in their organizations. In This Episode You Will Learn About: The dangers of addiction The habit of habit making Seeking fulfillment Working smarter, not harder Clearing your limiting beliefs Money as a means to an end Surrounding yourself with like-minded people Resources: Learn more: michaelgdash.com Buy Chasing the High Instagram: @mdash1 Facebook: facebook.com/michael.dash1 Fast Foundations Show Notes: I’m sitting down with a friend of mine today named Michael Dash. He has an incredible story of addiction: addiction to drugs, alcohol, gambling, money, and practically every addiction you could possibly chase. But, he’s now turned it into an incredible story of contribution and leading a beautiful life. We’re going to talk his rock bottom, then we’re going to talk about what saved him from it, and we’re going to dissect all the lessons from it that apply to your life as well. During all this, we tell his story of how he went from craving millions, being addicted to money, to then no longer wanting money at all, to now realizing it’s not good or bad, but a tool for him to get his message out there for those who need it. Michael has built companies, sold companies, been-there-done-that as an entrepreneur and he has tons of advice to share. In fact, he’s put all of that into his new book, Chasing the High, for you to learn from. Question Highlights: Can you tell us about your history with addiction? Have you traded addictions for other, more productive addictions? Are we always trading addictions, or is it possible to be free of addiction? When did you sell your company? Tell us about your book, Chasing the High? What is money, anyway? How do I pursue this tool called money in a healthy way? Is there any fear in chasing it down again? Guest Bio: MICHAEL G. Book Description To be on the frontline of entrepreneurship, you must be bold and take risks. But the need to achieve can be as addictive as drugs, with serious side effects. It can make you feel isolated, uncertain, and trapped on an emotional roller coaster ride full of euphoric highs and devastating lows. But there’s a way to get back onto solid ground. An accomplished entrepreneur and recovering gambling and drug addict, Michael Dash realized his gaming obsession and his drive to succeed were two sides of the same coin. He was always “chasing the high,” whether in the office, the casino or out being the life of the party. Through it all, he was able to devise strategies and routines that enabled him to refocus, reboot, and take control of his life. And his winning approach will help all leaders calm their inner chaos and find fulfillment, serenity, and purpose. A different life is possible when you stop Chasing the High...and start living. Michael Dash is taking a step back from the hard-charging life he led for so long to re-center. In the process, he’s dealt with his own addictions and gained some powerful perspectives. He shares his insights in he book Chasing the High. He also shares some powerful insights in our conversation, which you can watch above. Interview with Michael Dash, the CEO of FATE - From Addict To Entrepreneur . The following is the pre-interview with Michael Dash. Be sure to watch the recorded interview above. Expert Tips: Tip 1: Do not make emotional decisions in business or your personal life. Emotional reactions cause frustration for both parties involved and usually involve an outpouring of negative energy. This usually leads to an uncomfortable conversation that needs to take place after the fact to heal any hurt feelings and ends up being a complete drain of time. Tip 2: Change is actually easy. Too often people equate change to the result they are expecting from change but these two ideas actually have no correlation. Anyone who wants to change any behavior can easily do it today. If they tie themselves to the result of the change they may hold themselves back from taking that first step of action. You can build a plan to achieve the results you want along the way and do not need to wait for that to make the actual change right now. Tip 3: Explore your positive curiosity and try new activities that can bring fulfillment into your lives. Sometimes we form opinions about certain activities or groups of people in life and we then incorporate those opinions as our own without even giving certain things a chance. Activities like yoga, meditation, sound baths, breath-work we may all have heard one thing or another about but until you actually try them out you will not know if they resonate with you and can help you achieve a fulfilled life. “Addictions, unlike people, will never let you down. They will always be there for you. They are your best friend because they are always there. They’re also your biggest enemy because of the damage they do to you.” This episode’s guest became an addict when he was just 11-years-old. The way it happened was quite innocent and even accidental. Michael Dash won his first ever bet during a family Thanksgiving dinner. It was an experience that led to a 20 year gambling addiction. Thanks to his addictive personality, Michael didn’t stop at gambling. Instead, he kept chasing the high. And the more he got, the more he needed. This led him to pills at college, which evolved into marijuana and cocaine. Despite these addictions, Michael was outwardly successful. Driven by hard work and addicted to doing well, Michael was earning 6-figures just two years out of school. Fuelled by the high that his addictions guaranteed, he worked his butt off to ensure he could fuel his obsessions. But he wasn’t happy. Instead, he was angry, isolated, and self-loathing. Then he got wrangled into a million-dollar law suit with his ex business partner - and life slowly started to turn around. “The road to success is always under construction.” An entrepreneur’s event in Bali proved to be the turning point Michael needed. At this event, he discover the principles of flow, which forced him to ask a different question - “Would it be so bad to live a different way?” The answer was of course NO, and in that moment, Michael began his transformation from angry addict to a life of fulfillment and freedom. And in this episode, he shares how he did it. So tune in now to discover: How death enabled him to let go of the law suit that was draining his lifeThe powerful message Michael has for his 11-year-old selfThe reason simple habits can remove the stranglehold of addictionThe power of curiosity to change your life and self-identityHow change is ‘easy’ and why he wants to help other addicts adopt the same beliefHow tribes lead to fulfilmentThe 1-10 scale of life and how the non-addicted Michael is able to feel it allAnd much, much more. Michael’s story is proof that pain has a purpose and your mess can become your message. So if you have an addictive personality or you know of someone who has, make sure you listen to this episode. It’s going to inspire you, empower you, and prove to you that there is life beyond those addictive highs. “I would profess to anybody: Don’t try to tackle every problem at once. Make one little change because one little change or doing one little thing can have the biggest shift, and then you do another little thing and another little thing, and that creates momentum.” How to contactMichael's Website: http://michaelgdash.comMichael's FB: https://www.facebook.com/michaeldashofficialMichael's IG: https://www.instagram.com/mdash1/Michael's Twitter: https://twitter.com/mgdvipWe thrive on your feedback, so if you’ve enjoyed this show, please rate us and leave us a review. There are many kinds of addiction. Our guest on this episode was addicted not only to cocaine and Adderall but also gambling. Now clean and sober - largely through his own efforts, he is giving back to leaders and through raising money for charity. This is Michael Dash's story.

Kilimanjaro, and continuously contributing to Leukemia Lymphoma Society’s Team-in-Training fundraising group.
Michael Dash is the CEO and President of Parallel HR Solutions. He is a life-long entrepreneur and the ultimate example of just how messy a business partnership break-up can be. We talk about the early days of Parallel HR and how a six-month commitment turned into eleven years. Michael also tells me about how he got tangled up in a six-year lawsuit and nearly lost his sanity in the process. After discussing his fall, he shares how he found peace of mind again and changed his life for the better. Today’s episode is a cautionary tale about how to keep your ego in check and when to know to cut your losses. What you will learn: Michael’s business background. How Michael got into the staffing service business. The early years of Parallel HR and the move to Utah. How Michael and his partner structured the business. Why he decided to buy his partner out of the company. How the buy-out led to a lawsuit and a counter lawsuit. The danger of emotional decision making. In this episode of the Be Your Best in Business™, I had the privilege to sit down with Michael Dash, and talk not only of his success with his business and philanthropy, BUT as well as how he overcame his “personal demons”. This interview allowed us to discuss how the change in our way of thinking can also change our perspective in life, thus leading for us to see the opportunities hidden somewhere in every challenge. In this episode Michael and I discussed how the people whom we spend a good amount of our time with (especially while growing up) can really influence – either positively or negatively – on how we grow up. Michael shared with us that while he was a gambling and drug addict when he was younger, he was also honing his entrepreneurial skills at the same time. He also shared how he went “chasing the high” back then. He discussed how he overcame his addictions – which basically started with a little argument with his brother on their way home for Thanksgiving, which brings us back to the influence the people we are close with have on our lives. In this interview, we also get to talk about how he overcame his gambling addiction – and it started with a “short-term goal” of DON’T gamble tomorrow. (This shows how short-term goals can really help us change something for the long-term.) We also discussed how he started his business, and how he ended up in Utah when he had a full-time job in New York. He shared how his decisions back then revolved around money, and how he went where the money is. He touched on how even when he was already able to conquer his addictions, he was still on a roller coaster ride – sharing that he has an on-going lawsuit with his ex-business partner, and how he did not know how to deal with it a couple of years ago, and how a trip to Bali helped him change his perspective, and helped him cope up with his negative emotions. Michael talked about his efforts to help those who went through addiction just like him, and that includes a series he calls “FATE (From Addicts To Entrepreneur)”. We also get to touch on the topic of “FLOW” which is a mental state that allows us to become more productive and get more out of life. Golden Nugget Round Question 1 – What would you tell your 25 Year Old Self? Get control of your emotional state before you make any decisions. Take a deep breath, and a step back before you open your mouth. Question 2 – What would you lecture at University today? Most likely a combination of emotional decision making, overcoming obstacles, the tie of addiction and entrepreneurship, and the importance of having a fulfilled life. Question 3 – What was your biggest investment or financial decision? Investing in houses and property.
