Welcome to Episode 402 of the Microsoft Cloud IT Pro Podcast. In today's episode, we're thrilled to have Andrew Connell (AC) joining us once again. If you've been with us for a while, you'll recognize AC as a repeat guest and one of the early voices who encouraged us to launch this podcast. In this episode, we're diving deep into the world of Microsoft Copilot agents from a bit of a developer's perspective . We expand on insights from Episode 400 and helping us understand some additional intricacies of how Copilot works under the hood. We'll break down the different billing models and some limitations in what they provide and why having at least one $30 license is key to unlocking the semantic index. We'll also explore how Copilot uses semantic indexing to ground responses in your organization's data, and how it respects user permissions through access control lists. But it's not all smooth sailing—AC also walks us through some of the current limitations, like missing metadata and large file indexing. He also shares a potential workaround using Azure AI Search for those needing more comprehensive coverage. Finally, we this weeks Microsoft Build Conference and tease a potential future episode where ACw will return to talk about custom Copilot development. Bring external data into your Microsoft 365 Copilot experience to ground generative AI results using connectors and plugins. Use Microsoft Graph connectors to integrate the data sources you want with Semantic Index for Copilot. This option pre-indexes defined read-only information used for retrieval with your prompts to drive the most relevant AI-generated responses. Use managed and trusted plugins, such as OpenAI plugins, Microsoft Teams message extensions, and Power Platform connectors. Instead of pre-indexing information, plugins optimize for real-time API based data retrieval, and they can optionally write-back data. Mary David Pasch, Microsoft 365 Copilot Principal Product Manager, shares how both options follow Microsoft's comprehensive security, compliance, and privacy approach, while respecting defined boundaries within your organization's data services and can work together when responding to a single prompt. ► QUICK LINKS: 00:00 - Bring in external data with Copilot 01:08 - Use a connector and plugin simultaneously 02:45 - See how it works 03:56 - Semantic Index demo 04:55 - Data retrieval with Copilot using connectors 06:19 - Data retrieval with Copilot using plugins 07:23 - Plugins code and how they work 08:45 - Wrap up ► Link References For more information, check out https://aka.ms/CopilotExtensibility ► Unfamiliar with Microsoft Mechanics? In what may have been the biggest week in marketing AI (to date), we have a lot to review in this week's podcast, so let's jump right in. GPT-4 is released to the public The week started with the much-anticipated release of GPT-4, the latest, most powerful version of OpenAI's large language model. And it's now is being integrated into existing products via API, as well as ChatGPT. According to OpenAI, “GPT-4 can solve difficult problems with greater accuracy, thanks to its broader general knowledge and problem-solving abilities.” OpenAI says that GPT-4 surpasses ChatGPT in its reasoning capabilities. In fact, the new model was tested on the Uniform Bar Exam, where it scored in the 90th percentile compared to ChatGPT's 10th percentile score. GPT-4 will be able to accept images as input;. OpenAI demoed one jaw-dropping example of the model being able to generate code for a webpage based on a hand-drawn sketch of what the webpage should look like. Has OpenAI veered too far away from its non-profit roots? Is a company with “open” in the name being as forthcoming as they should be? Paul and Mike discuss. Microsoft and Google embed AI in their core products Google just announced that developers will now have access to its PaLM API, which gives them the ability to build on top of Google's language models in Google Cloud. The company also announced generative AI features coming to Google Workspace, the firm's productivity suite. That means you'll soon see generative AI features in Gmail and Docs that draft copy on any given topic for you. At the same time, Microsoft announced Microsoft 365 Copilot, an AI tool that is “your copilot for work.” According to the company, Copilot combines the power of large language models with your data in the Microsoft Graph and Microsoft 365 apps to increase productivity. That happens in two ways, says Microsoft. First, Copilot works alongside you in popular apps like PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook to increase productivity. For instance, in Word, it can now generate drafts for you. In PowerPoint, you can use natural language prompts to create presentations. Copilot also enables a new feature called “Business Chat” that surfaces insights from data across your company and makes performing tasks easier. Our team watched the launch demo, and some instant applications came to mind. The U.S. Copyright Office is getting involved…so make sure you're not breaking any laws. Warning: If you're using generative AI tools to create content—articles, blog posts, books, images, software, songs, videos, etc—you do not own that content, according to the U.S. Copyright Office. That means anyone can reproduce it without your permission, create derivative works from it, display it, perform it, and sell it. On Mar 16, 2023, the Copyright Office launched an initiative to examine the copyright law and policy issues raised by AI, including the scope of copyright in works generated using AI tools and the use of copyrighted materials in AI training. “This initiative is in direct response to the recent striking advances in generative AI technologies and their rapidly growing use by individuals and businesses. The Copyright Office has received requests from Congress and members of the public, including creators and AI users, to examine the issues raised for copyright, and it is already receiving applications for registration of works including AI-generated content.” The Office also issued updated registration guidance that has an immediate effect on your ability to protect your original works. Paul and Mike discuss ways to use AI-powered technologies that are legal, and what tech companies need to address with their tools. Becoming a doula means that you are starting a business. Many doulas overlook this first step. Or this information is not a big part of their doula training. Understanding the ins and outs of starting a business is important. Creating a legal business structure, setting up business accounts for banking, taking payments, and offering services are critical first steps. These steps not only protect your business but can protect your personal assets as well. Running a business means that you need to manage many aspects of your doula business daily. Working with clients is a part of what you will do as you work in your business. But it won't be the largest part of what you do, at least in the beginning. Doulas who want to make a living at this work will need to tend to their business just as diligently as they tend to their clients. Join us as we discuss the basics of running a doula business.

The negotiation process depends on what needs to be achieved. The individuals involved can either participate in competitive or collaborative negotiation. Both of these utilise non-verbal cues that support the communication style and goal of the conversation. In this episode of the Business Chat podcast, I welcome back the amazing Gary Edwards to carry on with the discussion for non-verbal negotiation. There are lots of factors to consider when negotiating; the environment, tone of voice, physical looks, and mental preparation. But the main thing is having the flexibility and striking balance with negotiation style. How we verbally express our thoughts is equally important as how we gesture our message. When there's an inconsistency between what we say and how we say it, the people we're negotiating with believe the negative, and we don't get the outcome we hope for. Time indeed flies fast when you are having fun. This is the perfect description of how Lisa feels about her podcasting journey. In this mini-episode, Lisa shares the awesome lessons from podcasting that she gained from the time she started the Business Chat podcast. She mentions that podcasting has given her the ability to learn new things and meet people across the globe. Through her learnings, she can share valuable resources with her clients. Although podcasting is a fun avenue for Lisa to get value from her guests, this never undermined the fact that it was still hard work. Podcasting requires having the right systems and processes in place and for the wrong person, this may feel like a chore. There will come a time when podcasting will feel like too much work and the efforts outweigh the benefits. Having a supportive podcast tribe or community is key to continuing enjoying podcasting. Another thing that Lisa emphasized is why the metrics are not as significant as the connections and creating valuable content. For any person who wants to start his podcasting journey, there will be days when the numbers are low, but keep going because it's going to be worth it. Furthermore, Lisa shares the significance of choosing guests wisely. She's always grateful when guests with valuable insights and topics to share say yes to be on the Business Chat podcast. Overall, Lisa learned the value of never giving up and constantly uploading exceptional podcast episodes. Doing so, allows her to share valuable content that generates a positive impact on listeners from all over the world.
