The National Library has launched a project to collate an archives of the October 7th massacre which will serve as a central repository for all documentation on the event. The monumental effort is including not only video, audio and photo material, but also other formats such as from the social media. Dr. Raquel Ukeles, head of collections at the National Library of Israel, spoke to reporter Arieh O'Sullivan about the endeavor and the tremendous challenge and importance of the drive. Collate is a verb that means to collect and combine in proper order. The Latin word conferre (con FAIR ay) means ‘to bring together.' When we bring things together in a logical order, we collate them. Here's an example of our word of the day in use: My job at the office is to collate all the information from our many clients. Keeping them in proper order can be a bit difficult because after a while, they all just seem the same.

Planning on your best year yet as a law firm owner? Tune in as we are talking more about marketing and join me on my bandwagon of marketing to propel your firm this year. As a law firm owner, I know you wanted to create more freedom and profit for yourself. You knew it's going to be difficult but it can be overwhelming if you're in the middle of a forever-evolving journey of being a law firm owner. But as long as you keep moving forward where you are now is going to be way different in 5 years' time. Marketing and getting clients is what's going to take your business to the next level. So you can start “Working ON your business rather than IN it”... Which is the goal! FREEDOM, PROFIT and GROWTH. So you can do whatever you want for your firm. A lot of law firm owners don't know where to start the marketing plan so what happens is a lot of people get involved like an agency (SEO, digital or ads) then add them as Adhoc thinking it's a solution in getting more work through the door. But it's not really an agency that can help you rather you should have a WHOLISTIC MARKETING PLAN. It's your job as a law firm owner to look at it as a whole. You need to spread yourself across these 3 types of marketing: Organic Marketing Paid Marketing Referral Marketing This is what I share with my fellow law firm owners at the SCALABLE BUSINESS LOUNGE. I help them create a holistic marketing strategy where we cover all three strategies and more. First, let's take a look at your referral marketing. This is your firm's “word of mouth” but this is never enough to keep your business growing. You need to be intentional about your referral marketing. Here are a few tips for you on how to maximise and launch into 2023 for your intentional referral marketing: Collate a Target List - You need to know who are these people that are sending work through your door. You might not know these people yet. But you want to create a relationship with these people. As a law firm owner, you want this relationship to be yours. Again, we need to be intentional in creating these referrers. Collate a List of Events - Think about the local events in your area throughout the year. Pick what you're going to be involved in this year. What works for me really well is to invite a whole table of people (e.g. Breakfast, charity or ball events). And these people are the ones on my target list. It's a good excuse to invite potential referrers and build a relationship with these people in a really powerful way. Collate a List of Venues - In your local area like a restaurant where you can host a couple of lunches. I find it great to host around 10- 20 people and invite them all to one lunch and do it a couple of times a year. And don't forget to make it fun! Make Social Media Friends - make some friends on your social media as they can be people that can refer you to work. If there are other lawyers in your area follow them on social media, comment, and make that effort. It's a good way of tapping into real people that can actually refer to your work and eventually make a connection and invite them to your events. I hope these ideas and tips can be useful for you in starting to be intentional when it comes to your referral marketing. Next on the Scalable Law Podcast, I'm going to give you more tips on how to collate more information for yourself to help you with your marketing strategy for 2023. Let's get out there and have some fun and get referrals happening this year! Episode 61 - The Writer's Toolbox - The Tool of a Literary Agent In this episode, Pete and Laura head over to The Writing Room to chat about The Tool of a Literary Agent for a writer. THE WRITERS' ROOM - The Tool of a Literary Agent What is a literary agent, and how will this tool help us as a writer? That's the subject for this edition of the podcast. A literary agent is a professional who represents a writer or a group of writers and their work. An agent has relationships with publishers and their major role is to ‘sell your work' or your book to the most appropriate buyer. This is often pitching. The agent will pitch your unpublished novel or non-fiction work and negotiate fees and rights deals. How Do I Get a Literary Agent?Stage 1 – Research. You'll need to conduct extensive research to find an agent. The first place we'd recommend is the Writers' & Artists' Yearbook. Stage 2 – Once you've got your list of agents to approach, carefully read the submission criteria set out on their website. Stage 3 – Collate your submission package. This is sometimes called a proposal, and might include:A Cover letterA SynopsisYour Opening ChaptersWhat else do you need to know?Rejection is part of the process! According to Jericho writers, agents read around 2,000 manuscripts a year. That means roughly 5 a day, every day! You will get ignored. You will get rejected. But know it's not personal. It's part of the process. We want to hear from you if are looking for a literary agent or have found one! Please write to us at - info@derbyshirewritingschool.comSend us a voice message. Thanks for listening!

In this week's Top Tip episode, Becky and Amy reflect on Alison Wood's Top Tip to add "in your opinion" to any advice you are given. She urges us to remember opinions are not facts. You get to collate opinions and decide what to do with them. Becky and Amy reflect on:The importance of getting clear about your core purpose, big vision, and the steps on the journey. The value of strategic objectives, and your thematic goal - i.e. your number one priority right now*.The courage required to say yes to your core purpose and no to everything else. The power of trusted advisors, and how to build that trust between you. The risk of overwhelm when well-meaning experts are bombarding you with diverse and contradictory advice.Learning as a critical metric of success throughout the business lifecycle. We enjoy the idea of experimenting with the house-rule of 'one in, one out,' to help remind us to be mindful of which advice we take on and allow to influence the direction of our business. What's your approach to protecting yourself from the key ideas others want to introduce to your space? How do you decide which to say "yes" to, and "no" to everything else? We would love to hear your experiences and insights. In this episode of SYS Hiring the Right People, Steve talks about how to make your final decision when hiring, an essential step to get right or you will have wasted time and energy on on-boarding the wrong person. Steve goes over some last-minute checks and tests you can do to ensure you get the right final candidate! KEY TAKEAWAYS Two things you can implement to ensure you make the right decision with your final candidate(s) is to give them either a paid test tasks or a trial period. The aim of a paid test task or trial period is you give them a piece of work that is going to give you an actual example of what it would be like for them to work for you. This isn’t the time to ‘trick’ people or push them, you want to give them clear and easy instructions to follow to ensure they can perform. You can help them grow and develop once they work for you. It can be worth hiring someone with less experience that you can then tailor to your way of working – making them a cheaper overall hire as well as working in the style you want them to. Collate all the information you have about the candidate and look at it all as one big picture. It can be helpful at this point to also read through their CV and check their references. BEST MOMENTS “You can never be 100% sure but you can be 99% sure” “You want people who are asking you questions so they don’t do things wrong” VALUABLE RESOURCES SYS Recruitment Series Resources: Bit.ly/sys-10 Facebook Group: Systems and Outsourcing Systems and Outsourcing Website YouTube Dr. Steve Day ABOUT THE HOST Steve used to be a slave to his business but when he moved to Sweden in 2015, he was forced to change the way he worked.
