It's been a week filled with breaking news and, as usual, investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell are on it, starting with the arrest of Grant Solomon's mother. Grant was 18 years old when he was killed outside of Nashville under mysterious circumstances (and with his father, former news anchor Aaron Solomon, nearby). In the years since his death, Grant's mother has fought for law enforcement to take another look at her son's case and sought for protection for her daughter, who accused Aaron of sexual abuse.  This past Friday, Angie Solomon was arrested and charged with attempting to hire a hitman to kill Aaron. Mandy and Liz break down what happened and why the accusations seem … off.  Plus, reporter Beth Braden learns that two new witnesses to Grant's death came forward last spring and what they had to say is interesting.  Also on the show, Jane Doe No. 1 stands up to Myrtle Beach Pastor John-Paul Miller's legal bullying.  Plus a shocking (overlooked?) piece of evidence in the Scott Spivey case … no really, it's wild.  Premium members get updates on Russell Laffitte's plea deal, Alex Murdaugh's latest attempts to manipulate dummies and what's up with Cory Fleming's appeal?  Let's dive in...

A South Carolina federal judge has ordered Alex Murdaugh and his accomplice, Cory Fleming, to pay millions for orchestrating an insurance fraud scheme that stole over $4 million meant for the family of Murdaugh's housekeeper, Gloria Satterfield. Judge Richard Gergel issued a $14.8 million judgment against Murdaugh and a $3.75 million judgment against Fleming, a former attorney and longtime friend of Murdaugh. These judgments followed a civil trial brought by Nautilus Insurance Company, which sought damages from the fraudulent scheme. The case began after Satterfield's fatal fall on the front steps of Murdaugh's hunting estate, Moselle. Murdaugh convinced Satterfield's sons to file a claim against his insurance, promising compensation. Instead, Murdaugh and Fleming embezzled the settlement funds, leaving the family empty-handed. Murdaugh admitted to fabricating a story about his dogs causing Satterfield's death to create liability and secure insurance payouts. “He intended to, and did in fact, steal,” Judge Gergel noted in his January 2 ruling. Fleming faced trial for his role in facilitating the fraud. The court found that he committed “multiple acts of unfair and deceptive practices” and acted willfully in violating the South Carolina Unfair Trade Practices Act. While a jury initially awarded $1.25 million in damages, Gergel tripled the amount to $3.75 million, citing the severity of Fleming's actions. “Fleming's unfair and deceptive acts played a critical role in Murdaugh's ability to ultimately steal over $4 million in settlement funds,” Gergel stated in the settlement order. The fraudulent settlement funds were part of over 100 financial crimes tied to Murdaugh, including millions stolen from his law firm clients. These crimes have compounded the disgraced attorney's legal troubles. Murdaugh is already serving two life sentences for the 2021 murders of his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul. Prosecutors argued the murders were a distraction to hide his mounting financial crimes. While Murdaugh appeals his double murder convictions, the financial fraud cases continue to unfold. Nautilus Insurance Company's lawsuit against other entities linked to the Satterfield scheme remains active. The Gloria Satterfield case has become a cornerstone of the unraveling Murdaugh crime saga, symbolizing the betrayal of trust by two lawyers who exploited a grieving family for personal gain. #AlexMurdaugh #GloriaSatterfield #InsuranceFraud #CoryFleming #TrueCrime #SouthCarolina #LegalNews Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell and attorney Eric Bland talk about the horrors of the Los Angeles wildfires and how Big Insurance, as well as systemic failures in government preparation have made a catastrophic situation even worse.  Closer to home, the three talk about the success of Luna Shark's billboard blitz in the hopes of seeking answers in the Stephen Smith case (not to mention Sandy Smith's decision to increase the reward to $50,000 for information leading to arrests in her son's murder case).  Also on the show, a federal jury found Cory Fleming liable for his part in Alex Murdaugh's scheme to steal millions from Gloria Satterfield's family, but is HE the biggest loser to emerge from the Nautilus trial? Or did the insurance company waste untold amounts of time and money in launching an easily predictable losing battle over something that may ultimately be their own fault?  Plus, the latest in the Mica Francis case: Emails and texts show that JP MIller — and his right hand woman Tricia Ross — accused an Horry County Police Department officer of being at fault for Mica's death. AND Wayne Miller's odd real estate connection to Mica's divorce attorney Regina Ward — who also represented Mica's family in the fight over who would be personal representative for Mica.

Investigative journalists — and proud “podcasters” — Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell reveal the latest in the Mica Francis story, starting with emails from JP Miller and his sidekick Tricia Ross that were sent to police days after Mica's death, urging the police to investigate one of their own in connection to Mica's death.  Yes, seriously. Turns out May 2 was a very bad day for JP Miller. Not only did he have to explain himself to his partners at the Myrtle Beach bar he had a stake in, he seemed to be on a war path as he pointed his finger at Heather Wilson, his alleged former ally at Horry County Police Department. JP — demonstrating once again that he thinks the police work directly for him — wanted the department to investigate Heather for Mica's death because she is the mother of the man Mica was hanging out with on March 11 and the man who JP later called and berated.  Mandy and Liz share the first installment of the texts and emails that came back from reporter Beth Braden's FOIA for communications between JP and the police. Also on the show, how did the waterfront home in Myrtle Beach that Wayne Miller tried to get the courts to force an octogenarian widow who was thought to have dementia to sell end up getting sold to attorney Regina Ward … the attorney who represented Mica in her pending divorce and later Mica's family in their quest to hold JP and his church accountable? We have the scoop — including an interview between Beth and Regina.  Plus, the latest in the Nautilus trial, which had Cory Fleming back up on the stand this week in federal court... and ultimately the jury came back with a verdict in Nautilus' favor, declaring that Cory Fleming owes them $1.25 Million in compensatory damages plus $50.00 in punitive damages.  Stay Tuned, Stay Pesky and Stay in the Sunlight...☀️ Episode Resources Jury decides Cory Fleming is liable for role in Murdaugh insurance scheme, owes $1.25M “Trial begins for Fleming in insurance accusation civil case” - Live5, Jan 6, 2025 “‘In my mind, that was deception': insurance expert testifies in Fleming case” - Live5, Jan 7, 2025 Alex Murdaugh's $14.8 Million Nautilus Judgement - Jan 2, 2025 911 Calls after Mica Francis' Death Timeline Exposing Dirty Southern Money Facebook Page If you are in crisis, please call, text or chat with the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988, or contact the Crisis Text Line by texting TALK to 741741. Also, a federal judge issues an order in the Nautilus case, in which the insurance company who issued a multi-million dollar payout to Cory Fleming in Gloria Satterfield's death is suing to get their money back. In his ruling, Judge Richard Gergel notes that the insurance company KNEW that something fishy was going on with the Satterfield case and yet STILL gave Cory that money. Why? The insurance company feared the payout would be worse if it went to a Hampton County jury. Also on the show, Mandy and Liz continue to connect dots in the Mica Francis case as Mica's estranged husband, John-Paul Miller, continues to make TikTok videos in the hopes of putting out his own narrative about what their marriage was like. Plus, the disturbing patterns in JP's parents' divorce in 2002 and what it tells us about JP's upbringing. On today's True Sunlight Podcast, Co-hosts Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell break down what happened at Colleton County Clerk of Court Becky Hill's pathetic last attempt at staying in the post-Alex Murdaugh spotlight and why there might be more to the story about Becky's pick for a replacement.  Also on the show, the federal government files a 126-page response to Russell Laffitte's appeal, proving once again that they fight the hardest for victims … and, to them, the victims are Alex's old law firm and Russell's family's bank.  Plus, Mandy and Liz put together a timeline surrounding Alex's failed polygraph with the FBI. He was asked where $6 million in unaccounted stolen money went and didn't answer them truthfully. It's been another wild week in the world of Alex Murdaugh. True Sunlight co-hosts Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell give a breakdown of what happened at Alex's federal plea hearing last week and the vicious dealings that have occurred since then. What is Alex's larger plan? Also on the show, Cory Fleming appeals his sentencing in South Carolina Circuit Court and Russell Laffitte is reporting to prison … in Florida. Plus an exploration into how Dick Harpootlian and Jim Griffin are being paid and why recent subpoenas seeking information about their entertainment deals are important. For some reason, we didn't expect to still be stuck in Murdaugh land this fall. We were admittedly in denial thinking these cases would wrap up quietly and we could move on to other victims who need help shining the sunlight. But here we are, another week with an episode full of updates and important information on the never-ending Murdaugh saga.  While there is so much more to talk about today, we'll start off by talking about Crime Con and the concept of accountability.  We can't rely on those who police lawyers in our state to do anything about Dick's gun-pointing in court or Jim breaking prison rules for his propaganda documentary, but we can remind our millions of listeners and thousands of Luna Shark Premium Members of who these men really are and why they don't deserve to be celebrated and that is a big deal. Lots to chat about, so let's get into it! And a fun update: Mandy will be on Court TV Thursday night September 28 at 8pm ET with Sandy Smith and Eric Bland to make a special announcement. Co-hosts Mandy Matney, Liz Farrell and Eric Bland — unpack the seven hours in hearings that were held last week for South Carolina's “Unholy Trinity” Alex Murdaugh, Cory Fleming and Russell Laffitte. Judge Clifton Newman and S.C. Prosecutor Creighton Waters show the federal government that they're not playing games. Plus will Alex go through with his plan to plead guilty in front of U.S. District Court Judge Richard Gergel now that he has a state trial date? Cory Fleming was sentenced to 10 years for the Satterfield heist and 10 years for what he did to Pamela Pinckney. He'll ultimately serve less than 14 years for everything but this is still so much more than anyone thought he'd get … including Cory and his team. Alex Murdaugh was assigned his state court trial date, which interferes with his strategy of getting into federal prison. At the end of an epic three-part hearing Thursday, South Carolina Judge Clifton Newman sentenced Alex Murdaugh's former best friend and co-conspirator Cory Fleming to 20 years in state prison for his role in helping Alex steal millions from the Satterfield and Pinckney families. True Sunlight co-hosts Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell break down that dramatic hearing, plus they discuss what went down in two other hearings that happened in this same courtroom: One for Alex and one for Russell Laffitte. Liz and Mandy have also spent days dissecting those documents as the accusations against Becky were very serious. Last week, things spiraled into chaos again when Dick and Jim filed a long and shocking motion accusing clerk of Court Becky Hill of jury tampering.  We also spent a lot of time rereading Becky Hill's book. Did we find concerning things? Yes. Do we think there is a chance of a new trial with this? Not at all.. unless we hear new information that wasn't included in that motion. Which could happen... We will do a deep dive on all of that in a future episode. But today we need to talk about the very big deal… Cory Fleming was sentenced from 10-20 years (learn why there is such a gap on this episode too). Let's get into it... In the latest chapter of the Murdaugh legal saga, former Lowcountry attorney Cory Fleming was handed a 46-month sentence, amounting to nearly four years, by a federal judge. This decision follows his guilty plea in May for conspiring with Alex Murdaugh to embezzle funds from the estate of Murdaugh's late housekeeper, Gloria Satterfield.    Beyond the prison sentence, Fleming was also directed to pay $102,000 in restitution alongside a $20,000 fine. On completion of his prison term, he will undergo three years of supervised release. Fleming's cooperation with the prosecutors contrasted sharply with the actions of Russell Laffitte, another alleged Murdaugh conspirator, sentenced to seven years following a trial.    Both Satterfield and Pinckney families, the victims in this scandal, were present in the courtroom. A visibly emotional Fleming, surrounded by his family, addressed the room, expressing remorse and naming each victim in his apology. His sentiments were met with grace, as Pamela Pinckney responded, “I just pray that you know God give Cory Fleming the strength to get through what he got to go through just as well as me and my family, God give us strength to go through what we got to go through.”    However, the highlight of the hearing was the comparison between Fleming and Laffitte. Emily Limehouse, the head prosecutor, and Judge Richard Gergel emphasized the differences in their approaches. Limehouse praised Fleming's acceptance of responsibility, saying, "It promotes respect to law and our efficient administration of justice."    Yet, Judge Gergel underscored the gravity of Fleming's crimes, hoping such a sentence acts as a deterrent against lawyers exploiting vulnerable clients. He outlined the intricate web of financial fraud, noting how Satterfield's estate was settled for a sum of $505,000 and $3.8 million by Murdaugh's insurance after her tragic trip-and-fall accident at Murdaugh's residence. The subsequent misappropriation of these funds by Fleming, and his involvement in a similar embezzlement case with the Pinckney family, accentuated the depth of this legal quagmire.    Upon reflecting on Fleming's sentencing, Attorney Eric Bland encapsulated the mixed emotions many felt. While acknowledging the need for accountability, he expressed sorrow, commenting, “But in the end, justice was done and our system worked. Attorneys like Mr. Fleming will continue to pay the price for their criminal acts. Rule of law inevitably will win. Can't out run it forever.”    Ronnie Richter, representing the Satterfields, added, “Hate the sin and not the sinner. I don't hate Cory Fleming – but I sure don't like what he did to the Satterfields. Crime always runs ahead of justice, but crime is a sprinter and justice is built for the long run.”    The road ahead for Fleming remains tumultuous. He's scheduled for a state trial on September 11, facing charges that include breach of trust, money laundering, and conspiracy. As the Murdaugh case continues to develop, this sentencing serves as a potent reminder of the consequences awaiting those who flout the law. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? In a shocking twist, Alex Murdaugh, the convicted double-murderer and former South Carolina attorney, has agreed to plead guilty to federal charges related to the embezzlement of millions from clients, according to recent court records. If Murdaugh remains steadfast in his decision by September 21, it will be the inaugural occasion he has publicly acknowledged guilt for any crime within a court setting.    Aged 55, Murdaugh is currently enduring a life sentence for the merciless killing of his wife and son, an act he committed in their home about two years ago. Despite the overwhelming conviction, Murdaugh has steadfastly maintained his innocence regarding these murders, vouching for his non-involvement from the witness stand during his trial. He is actively appealing the double murder conviction.    Prosecutors have presented a chilling theory behind the motives of the murders. They believe Murdaugh, foreseeing the imminent discovery of his massive financial thefts, chose to kill his family. The hope was that their tragic deaths would act as a smokescreen, buying him both sympathy and the much-needed time to craft a cover-up.    Should the federal guilty plea materialize, it could spell extended incarceration for Murdaugh. Even if his appeal against the murder conviction were to be successful, the federal charges ensure that freedom remains distant.    Investigators, both state and federal, have unraveled a web of deceit spun by Murdaugh. Before the tragic murders, Murdaugh is believed to have stolen significant sums from clients who were already grappling with debilitating injuries. These were individuals in desperate need of financial relief for medical expenses. Adding to his litany of alleged crimes, he stands accused of pilfering from his family's prestigious law firm, playing a pivotal role in a drug ring designed to launder money, and even conspiring with a friend to stage his own death, all in the name of a hefty life insurance payout. Thankfully for him, the gunshot meant to take his life only managed a superficial wound.    As per the federal court's documentation, Murdaugh's charges are comprehensive. He faces 14 counts of money laundering, five of wire fraud, one of bank fraud, and counts of conspiracy related to wire and bank fraud. As of now, court records do not suggest any quid pro quo in terms of dropping any charges for a guilty plea. The potential penalties are severe, with each charge threatening a prison term ranging from 20 to 30 years.    Following his indictment on 22 federal charges this past May, Murdaugh's legal representatives have remained tight-lipped. However, they hinted at a cooperative Murdaugh, suggesting that the charges would find resolution without the need for a full trial.    Murdaugh's alleged misdeeds extend beyond the federal landscape. Similar accusations are pending in state court. One particularly heinous act involves the theft of around $4 million in insurance settlements. This money was intended for the family of Gloria Satterfield, a dedicated housekeeper who tragically lost her life due to a fall at the Murdaugh residence. Authorities allege that Murdaugh's close associate and former attorney, Cory Fleming, played a crucial role in this theft. Fleming, having pled guilty, is now serving a prison sentence nearing four years.    Further probing reveals a deeper nexus of corruption. Investigators claim that Murdaugh and his banker associate, Russell Laffitte, colluded to misappropriate settlement funds from clients. Laffitte, having faced a November conviction on multiple charges, is appealing his seven-year sentence.    Murdaugh's extensive rap sheet includes charges of creating misleading bank accounts resembling legitimate companies that managed settlements. This was supposedly a tactic to siphon off client funds seamlessly.    Currently, Murdaugh is housed in protective custody at a state prison, following his conviction for the brutal murders of his son, Paul, and wife, Maggie. His legal battles are far from over, with approximately 100 state charges looming, encompassing a gamut from thefts to tax evasion.    A pretrial hearing for these charges is imminent, which will also be Murdaugh's first public outing since his dramatic exit from the Colleton County Courtroom earlier this year.    While his public appearances have been limited, photos of Murdaugh, at times shirtless in his prison cell, surfaced. These were initially released by prison officials but were later retracted, citing that they weren't meant for public consumption.    The Alex Murdaugh case continues to captivate the nation, revealing a story of deceit, murder, and betrayal at every turn. Laura shares final key events in the timeline including further federal and state financial charges against Murdaugh and the murder trial whereby Murdaugh admitted under oath that he stole from his clients and firm PMPED. However, after Murdaugh was convicted for murdering Maggie and Paul, curiously Murdaugh pled not guilty to the federal financial charges.   Laura also discusses Murdaugh's statement to Judge Newman “I would never hurt my wife, Maggie, and I would never hurt my son, Paw Paw” as well as highlighting what happened to Murdaugh's cronies, Russell Laffitte and Cory Fleming, at their sentencing hearings.   Laura shares her thoughts on Gloria Satterfield's so-called ‘trip and fall' and Murdaugh's lies regarding Gloria's death and settlement, as well as latest developments in Stephen Smith's terrible murder. The first co-conspirator of Alex Murdaugh is finally behind bars! True Sunlight co-hosts Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell attended Cory Fleming's sentencing hearing this week in Charleston, South Carolina, where they watched Fleming — a former attorney who took advantage of Gloria Satterfield's family — throw himself on the mercy of the court. The two share highlights from the hearing and explore new questions, such as: Was this a real display of remorse? Or did this just get worse? Did the federal government get played by Alex Murdaugh's former best friend? As mentioned on Cup Of Justice, Fleming will serve 46 months in federal prison and pay $102,221 in restitution for his involvement in the scheme to steal millions from the Satterfield family. Moments after Judge Richard Gergel announced his sentence on August 15, Fleming voluntarily surrendered and was escorted out of the U.S. District Court in Charleston by U.S. Marshals. Cory Fleming, a longtime friend and law school roommate of Alex Murdaugh, has been sentenced to 46 months in prison after admitting to assisting Murdaugh in defrauding millions from a wrongful death lawsuit settlement.    Fleming, 54, faced sentencing on Tuesday in South Carolina, following his guilty plea in May for federal conspiracy to commit wire fraud.    The case centers around the death of Gloria Satterfield, the Murdaugh family's late housekeeper, who allegedly suffered a fatal fall in 2018 after tripping over the Murdaugh's dogs. Fleming was instrumental in helping Murdaugh deceive the Satterfield family, defrauding them of upwards of $4.3 million intended as a settlement.    The scheme involved Murdaugh persuading the Satterfields to hire Fleming as their attorney and file a claim against him. The payout would be sourced from insurance on Murdaugh's property held with Lloyd's of London and Nautilus Insurance Group. The duo then orchestrated the creation of fictitious accounts, redirected the settlement money, and even falsified distribution documents to secure approval by a judge.    It was only after the tragic deaths of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh in 2021 that Tony Satterfield, a relative, uncovered the fraudulent multi-million-dollar payout. Although Fleming admitted to being aware of Murdaugh's intent to embezzle funds from the Satterfields, he claimed to have believed it would only amount to $100,000 in attorney's fees. Prosecutors, however, argue that Fleming may not have been fully aware of the breadth of Murdaugh's intentions.    The fallout from Fleming's involvement with Murdaugh continues. He is mandated to pay $102,000 in restitution, face a $20,000 fine, and will also serve three years of probation upon his release. Furthermore, Fleming is due to face an additional 23 state charges, 18 of which are connected to the Satterfield case, with a trial slated for September.    Alex Murdaugh is currently incarcerated, serving two consecutive life sentences for the murders of his wife and son. He still awaits trial on 100 other federal and state criminal charges. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? It's been another week full of twists and turns in the Alex Murdaugh story. With each new development in this case, we're getting to see the inner workings of the justice system and how it just simply works better for certain people. The first plea deal has been struck in Alex Murdaugh's web of crime and corruption. Former attorney Cory Fleming, who was Murdaugh's best friend — and godfather to Buster Murdaugh — has agreed to cooperate with the federal government and provide information in exchange for leniency. Murdaugh Murders Podcast hosts Mandy Matney, Liz Farrell and everyone's favorite attorney Eric Bland — discuss the latest in the Murdaugh Murders saga, as well as how clients can protect themselves from lawyers like Alex and Cory. We're asking people — specifically those who have had cases with PMPED and other related law firms — to request copies of their files and to CHECK their disbursement sheets and expense sheets to see if there's anything questionable on there. True Sunlight was created as a matter of public service — not just entertainment. While the name of the podcast has changed, our mission, values and team have not. We are simply expanding our horizons while continuing to shine a much needed bright light on Alex Murdaugh and his web of misdeeds.  The U.S. Attorney's Office's decision to indict Alex Murdaugh and his (former?) best friend and alleged co-conspirator Cory Fleming this week raises more questions. Even from prison, convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh manages to further traumatize his victims. This time it's the Satterfield family. On today's episode of Cup of Justice we talk about one of the most upsetting things to have happened since Alex Murdaugh was sentenced to life in March. Murdaugh Murders Podcast co-hosts Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell — and everyone's favorite attorney Eric Bland — discuss Murdaugh's admission that he lied about how Gloria Satterfield died and what that means, and what it DOESN'T mean, for the case. They also delve into male egotism, prison romance and why Jim Griffin and Dick Harpootlian might still be slumming it. Last week, Alex filed a response to the federal case that was filed against him by one of the two insurance companies in the settlement that was supposed to go to the Satterfield family — which totalled $4.3 million. In that filing he admitted to lying about the dogs tripping Gloria. The fallout from that was the suggestion that the Satterfield family might have to pay back the money they received as a result of Alex's admitted legal malpractice and the alleged legal malpractice of the family's attorney at the time, Alex's best friend Cory Fleming. In other words, the solution to Alex's admitted crime — in his and his supporters' eyes — is for Nautilus to go after the family who was swindled by him. Because our co-host Eric Bland and his partner Ronnie Richter are the ones who helped the Satterfield family be made whole, you better believe Eric was fired up in this episode. There's always something to talk about with him … let's get into it! In this heavily caffeinated edition of the FITSNews Week In Review we dove right into recent bombshell Murdaugh crime and corruption saga developments. For months informed speculators – ourselves included – have posited it is highly unlikely a few ‘lone wolves' could have successfully executed the complex financial crimes Alex Murdaugh, Cory Fleming, and Russell Laffitte stand accused of committing. Are we to believe that a rouge banker hid hundreds of thousands of dollars of fraud over an extended period of time from the other members of the Palmetto State Bank board of directors? Are we to believe that a rouge lawyer hid similarly serious crimes from his law partners?Until this week the answer to these questions were yes, but according to sources close to the federal prosecution of Russell Laffitte, audio referenced at secretive hearing held Thursday addressed a $680,000 payout to Alex Murdaugh's former law firm. The alleged details of the recording call the 'lone wolf' narrative into question, and could usher in an expansion of the prosecution of alleged co-conspirators. The Murdaugh saga has exposed the world to a side of the South Carolina justice - or injustice - system that many hadn't seen before. Are the alleged crimes, crimes which should have been detected and prosecuted years ago, indicative of systemic rot in the Palmetto State? Are they evidence of a dynasty built on decades of uncontested power in the state's southeastern corner? Or are they merely evidence of a few bad apples? These questions remain unanswered, and have led to many debates between those who argue that the state's Judicial system is fundamentally flawed and those who believe it is fundamentally benevolentThe alleged details of the recording call the ‘lone wolf' narrative into question, and could usher in an expansion of the prosecution of alleged co-conspirators.The Murdaugh saga has exposed the world to a side of the South Carolina justice – or injustice – system that many hadn't seen before. Are the alleged crimes, crimes which should have been detected and prosecuted years ago, indicative of systemic rot in the Palmetto State? A motion filed last week by John T. Lay and Peter M. McCoy Jr. — the two attorneys who were appointed as co-receivers in November 2021 to tally Murdaugh's assets — revealed even more shocking and unheard of banking practices at Palmetto State Bank. It's yet another layer of this story that shows us how powerful institutions treated Alex Murdaugh differently and therefore, potentially played a role in his alleged crimes.  In this episode, Mandy, Liz, and fan favorite attorney Eric Bland explain the new information uncovered by the receivers and what we know about what happened to the money.  Also this week, the State newspaper published an interesting piece about Chris Wilson — the third attorney on the infamous Omaha flight. There is A LOT to unpack about Cory Fleming. So much, that it doesn't all fit into one episode. But this week, we received a shocking document showing Fleming's apparent defense — and it includes a letter and text messages between Alex and Cory as Alex sat in both a Florida rehab facility and a SC jail respectively. In episode 37, Mandy, Liz and Eric Bland unpack both Cory Fleming's bond hearing and his shocking defense in a plea to the Georgia Bar. It seems like Cory isn't going down without a fight, even after a hard fall from grace.
