Welcome back to a special episode of Fratello On Air! This week, we bring you a compilation of recordings from Watches and Wonders 2025. We patched together several segments and even had a guest! Enjoy this inside look at the world's largest watch event.Watches and Wonders 2025 may be over, but it's still fresh in our minds. As we did for the last Geneva Watch Days, this episode is a collection of small recordings from the conference. It reflects our thoughts about the latest releases, people, and trends. Enjoy the content, and remember, this show was recorded on the floor in a crowded space.HandgelenkskontrolleWell, there's no real Handgelenkskontrolle this week. However, Mike brought two watches to help ward off the hairy eyeball of Swiss customs. The Patek Philippe Calatrava 570 and Ming 22.01 GMT made the cut. Balazs is wearing his Rolex GMT-Master 1675 at Watches and Wonders and brought several pieces, including a lovely Angelus 215. Mike delivered a vintage Montal beads-of-rice bracelet and another Angelus to Balazs — special delivery!Watches and Wonders — live reportingWhile we weren't at Watches and Wonders together the entire time, we found the time to meet up for a few different recording sessions. As a special treat, we managed to corner Gary Shteyngart, a friend of the show, and got his thoughts about the releases, the fair, and the craziness. We even gave our friend Eric Wind a shout-out! You'll hear about all the big brands, including Rolex and some smaller marques too!We hope you enjoy the show, and thank you for listening! As always, if you have ideas for future episodes, please let us know!

Plus, much more! Amit would love to help you with all your watch needs. He does charge a $150 consultation fee. This fee is for his time. Today's guest is gentleman dealer Eric Wind of Wind Vintage. Eric was one of the earliest contributors to Hodinkee, writing his first article about the Universal Geneve Polerouter way back in 2010.Over the years, he published the weekly "Bring A Loupe" column and you probably also recognize him from his multiple Reference Points appearances – Speedmaster, GMT-Master, Explorer, and Submariner – and his two talks for the Horological Society of New York. After his time as a Hodinkee contributor, Eric joined Christie's as a VP and Senior Specialist of Watches. In 2017 he set out on his own with Wind Vintage. Nowadays, you surely recognize his wrist and white cuff, always adorned with a rare or beautiful vintage watch.Eric tells a few stories about putting together those epic Reference Points, then we talk about the current vintage watch market, his modern watch collabs, and a charitable auction coming this December that he's involved in. Thanks for listening, and I hope you enjoy this week's episode of Hodinkee Radio.Show Notes00:01: Wind Vintage and Eric's Instagram3:58: Reference Points: Rolex SubmarinerReference Points: Omega Speedmaster8:45: FHH Monthly Report on Swiss Watch Exports9:00: Half-year financial reports for Swatch Group, Richemont, and LVMH9:25: Watch Charts12:30: Patek 3941J with "doré" dial22:45: Tropical Abercrombie & Fitch Seafarer that sold at Christie's in 2017 and Phillips in 202125:49: Example of a Heuer 2447S with "eggshell dial"28:35: Eric's unpolished Rolex Submariner 551029:10: Collector's Guide To The Rolex Submariner 551229:20: Collector's Guide To The Rolex Submariner 551339:05: The Rowing Blazers Seiko 5 Collab39:17: Eric's collaboration with Tracksmith and Merci40:00: Zodiac x Rowing Blazers Harry's Bar Super Sea Wolf40:15: Zodiac x Rowing Blazers "Trading Places" GMT47:30: Brian LaViolette Foundation

We even ask Eric what nickname the white knight of horology Perezcope will give him... amongst so much more. This truly was a fun episode to shoot! Sit down, grab a drink, and tune in to the latest episode of Watch Cringe! Also Saul and Brendan wore the same outfit from Banana Republic to honor Eric Wind as a guest.

Fratello On Air returns after a one-week break. In this episode, we're discussing a topic suggestion from one of our listeners and readers. It's a question that likely comes into most of our minds at some point along the way. Namely, how do we enjoy watch collecting without always thinking about the next acquisition? We share our thoughts. Our listener, "Cleon.XIII," is responsible for this week's episode where we talk about watch collecting and how to find satisfaction without moving on to the next piece. It's a tough one, especially for one of our hosts! Regardless of this, we provide some of the tactics that either work for us or seem to work for others with more self-control! Enjoy it!Handgelenks KontrolleWe kick off our episode on watch collecting without always thinking of collecting more with a bit of banter. Shoes make their way to the list of topics. Mike recounts his recent trip to Florida where he spent some time with Eric Wind and Charlie Dunne of Wind Vintage. He also had the chance to attend a dinner with Josh Shapiro of J.N. Shapiro Watches which was fantastic. Balazs mentions some recent podcasts and TV shows that he has enjoyed during travel. As far as the Handglenks Kontrolle, Mike is wearing his Eterna 852. Balazs is enjoying his Seiko Skyliner 6100-8000.Watch collecting without buyingFor our main topic, we discuss the idea of appreciating the watch hobby without always having to be on the hunt for another watch. Each of us brought some suggestions and while some aren't perfectly free, they likely come in well below the cost of a new timepiece. In short, here are our suggestions:Research your vintage watches to try and uncover new information about them. Some great sites are The Watch Library and the Library of Congress where it's easy to search old newspaper advertisementsThrow on a watch that you haven't worn in a long time and stay with it for several days. It may remind you why you purchased it in the first place. Or, it may be time to sell it.Search for the perfect strap or bracelet to pair with your watch. These can be surprisingly inexpensive and the right pairing makes a huge difference.Grab your camera or your phone and spend time photographing your watches. There are loads of free tutorial articles and videos on photography and digital editing.Engage with the watch community online or, better yet, in person if you're near a larger city. It's great fun to speak with others who share the same passion. We hope you enjoyed today's episode. If you have any topics for future shows, please feel free to let us know!

Tristan Walker may be new to the collecting scene, but if the name sounds familiar, well, that's because he sold company Walker & Company (makers of the grooming brand Bevel) to Procter & Gamble and sits on the board of companies like Shake Shack and Footlocker. Tristan's approach to collecting is very similar to the way he runs his companies, and consistency is the name of the game. His passion for collecting is ever growing and he's making the right relationships along the way. Our text chain is nothing short of a year's worth of watch purchases, books, and some good banter between the two of us. My favorite part about Tristan's collection? If you put 10 collectors in a room, not a single one of us would ever guess what's sitting in his watch box, and I have the pictures to prove it. It's not just what's sitting at home that makes him a great collector, it's the fact that he has a great eye for design and you can see it in the products he's created. At the end of the day, the guy just gets it. Today's guest is Charlie Dunne, someone we all got to know under the moniker Books On Time. Passionate about watches, Charlie's that type of collection who took his affection a step further by not only collecting books, but mainly collecting research on the brands and watches that he loves the most. Needless to say, the word got out pretty darn quick about Books On Time and Charlie began writing a lot more in depth content for other friends mediums, like Rescapement. Eventually, our good friend Eric Wind snatched him up to come join the team, and that's where we're at today. Charlie is writing some serious content over at Wind Vintage and doing a lot more work behind the scenes as well. Him and I recently got a chance to catch up in New York, and today we're continuing our conversation over the mics. Today's guest is none other than Ben Clymer, Chairman & Founder of Hodinkee. As someone whose background and company need no introduction, I figured we could dive right into all things collecting, both watches and cars. See, Ben's been around the block a few times and it's easy to not get jaded. So what's keeping Ben interested these days is what I really wanted to know. We talk about the grail Talking Watches guests and why it's not just about being a collector, but having the passion to do so. Of course we dive into his passion for car collecting and his elusive, one of only nine, Porsche Zagato 356's. We also talk about the coachbuilder themselves and why they are so sought after and important. A recent father of two, Ben's collecting looks a tad bit different these days. Still chasing the same things for himself, but two little ones as well, all in good taste. Alright, let's get to it. Fratello On Air is back with a new episode. This week, we touch on a couple of recent topics including the gray market and some associated troubles. We also discuss a newly released homage watch and the light controversy that it brought. As always, we enjoyed ourselves and hope that you'll do the same! It's another week and that means another installment of Fratello On Air. Mike is still sweating it out in Atlanta, which explains the tinnier-than-normal sound of his voice (no fancy microphone in tow). Balazs is enjoying the rain in Germany — not really! This week, it's a bit of a rant session with a focus on some gray market high jinks and a new homage watch that has generated some critical comments.Handgelenks KontrolleBefore getting into our discussion on the gray market, we take care of our customary Handgelnks Kontrolle. Balazs is rocking his vintage King Seiko 45-7001 on a funky metallic purple Has No Bounds watch strap. Mike is also going vintage and is debuting a 1962 Patek Philippe Calatrava 570 that was sourced from Eric Wind. Clearly, we're both into our vintage dress watches in this episode! The gray market and other newsDuring the past week, reports surfaced regarding the Los Angeles-based watch site, "The Timepiece Gentleman." Apparently, the founder recorded a recent video discussing the fact that he has spent monies owed to clients who sent their watches to him for sale on consignment. At this stage, he is attempting to pay those folks back over time. Let's see and let's also see how it affects the overall gray market. We also discuss the recent Massena LAB collaboration with Revolution. The watch generated criticism for looking almost exactly like a rare vintage Patek Philippe, but the response video caused an even larger reaction. We hope you enjoyed today's episode. If you have any topics that you'd like for us to discuss in a future podcast, please don't hesitate to let us know.
Today's guest is one of Watchpro's Hot 100, the NOS, LNIB Eric Wind, founder of Wind Vintage. We welcome Eric back, to chat (unsurprisingly), about vintage watches. Given what's been happening in the world of high-priced vintage timepieces, it's unsurprising that we end up talking about integrity, legitimacy and if high prices and high expectations will lead to trouble down the road. We also find time to get a bit of a behind-the-scenes look at the sale of Scott Carpenter's Speedy, and find out that if NBA draftees can rock a 36mm watch, you can too. Eric Wind is joining me for his second episode of Collectors Gene Radio today and as you could imagine, we're chatting all things watches and Wind Vintage. Since our last chat, Eric's had a countless list of exciting things going on for him and his brand, such as his partnership with Kith, the several Rowing Blazers collaborations, a Volume 2 of his HSNY talk, his podcast Significant Watches, and a lot more. Most notably, the incredible selection of vintage watches you can shop on his website, windvintage.com. It's not often you get to chat with someone who is so honest and knowledgeable across so many different brands. Eric's continuous efforts to be involved in as much as he can definitely attributes to where he and Wind Vintage are at today. It's always great to catch up and pick his brain, as if I don't bug him enough. Needless to say, I'm sure we'll be doing much more of these. So without further adieu, my friend Eric Wind, for Collectors Gene Radio.

We've been away for a few weeks, but Fratello On Air is back again! We're talking about the newly announced Sinn T50 lineup and then dipping into some travel talk. Balazs attended the recent NBA All-Star Game in Salt Lake City, Utah, and we talk about the festivities.Yes, we've been on the road for quite some time now. England, Switzerland, Austria, and America — we're beginning to sound like a Johnny Cash song around here! We apologize for missing the last couple of weeks, but we should be around for the foreseeable now.Handgelenks KontrolleWe kick things off with our Handgelenks Kontrolle and we've both decided to go vintage. Balazs is sporting his Benrus Sky Chief with a Valjoux 72 movement. Mike is wearing the Rolex Datejust 1601 with a lavender no-lume dial that recently came from Eric Wind. Both of us have declared that we're really enjoying wearing smaller (sub 40mm) watches lately. Before moving on to the Sinn T50 and the NBA, we discuss a few things that we've watched on TV lately.Sinn T50The Sinn T50 dropped last week and we are pretty excited about this watch. We think it looks great and should do well in the face of its titanium competition. It starts at roughly €3,000, so it isn't inexpensive, but it offers a lot of nice features in an attractive package. We then talk about our travels. Mike mentions a trip to Vienna and some of the nice watches he saw at a ball. Balazs, on the other hand, was a literal baller and attended the NBA All-Star Game in Salt Lake City. He talks about his trip and some of the icons he saw while there. Thanks for tuning in again and, as always, if you have show ideas, please let us know!

Welcome to another episode of Fratello On Air. In this installment, Balazs and Mike hit on two topics. We start with the fact that Swatch Group has no intentions of following Rolex into the CPO market. Next, we talk about a recent article highlighting concerns about a questionable auction that took place in 2018. Sit back and relax while we work the mics.Yes, it's another week and that means another podcast. This time we're talking more about CPO programs and a questionable auction. Balazs is taking care of business in Karlsruhe and Mike has literally just arrived back in Frankfurt. The two kick off with a number of topics. Balazs mentions the upcoming Lego Ford GT, which features a working engine. Balazs also mentions that he's decided to bite the bullet and purchase the Adidas Stan Smith Lux. Hoch leben! Finally, we discuss TV. Balazs is watching BMF and Mike just finished season 2 of The White Lotus.Handgelenks KontrolleBefore hitting the main topics on used watches and a questionable auction, we go through our Handgelenks Kontrolle. Mike is wearing his cherished Rolex Datejust 1600. This time, however, he has it on a new-to-him folded Oyster 7836 bracelet with 258 end links. He recently picked it up in Florida during a visit with our friend, Eric Wind. Will it stay on or will the Jubille return? Time will tell. Balazs is sporting his newly received Grand Seiko SBGA439. He loves it but is having a tough time getting the bracelet to fit and is also struggling with reflections during photographs.A questionable auction and Swatch Group stays away from CPOWe kick off the main section with a brief mention that Rolex is increasing prices yet again. Apparently, the increase is capped at "around" 2.5%, but that brings prices up by roughly 20% since the beginning of the pandemic. Yikes! Next, Balazs discusses an article about Swatch Group and that Nick Hayek will not be following Rolex into the used market any time soon. We think that's smart! Finally, we discuss a questionable auction that took place in 2018 related to the so-called "Unicorn" Rolex Daytona. As always, thanks for listening. If you have any suggestions for a future episode, please feel free to let us know!

What's more fascinating, is that he's really the only person dealing strictly in one category, which is antique Indian trade and camp blankets. This is one of those things where you have definitely seen them in passing, but you may not have known exactly what you were looking at. One of the original makers, Pendleton, has even recreated some of them to this day. Barry has found a healthy balance between collecting these for himself and making it his business. In fact, he's Ralph Lauren's go-to when it comes to supplying these for his personal ranch in Colorado as well as his Double RL stores around the world. If you've ever had the chance to go into a Double RL store and seen these blankets, well, that's Barry's doing. Barry also was contacted recently to supply all the blankets for a huge Hollywood movie starring some of the biggest names in the industry. He's truly an expert in this stuff, so much so that he's a consultant for Pendleton, whose the only surviving manufacturer for these products. He knows more about this stuff than you would think is even possible. Here it is, this is Barry Friedman, for Collectors Gene Radio.Barry's Website - https://barryfriedmanblankets.com/Barry's Books - https://barryfriedmanblankets.com/book-chasing-rainbows/

If you're into watches, you 100% know the name Eric Wind. For those that don't, well you're welcome. Eric's the founder of Wind Vintage which he launched in 2017, after a career at Christie's auction house and has since become a merited authority in the watch world, which can be proven by just about every publication quoting him in their articles. He's sourced watches for the movie Crazy Rich Asians, the talented gals Aly & AJ, amongst many other start-studded collectors. But don't let that scare you away, Eric sources watches of all kinds at all price-points for anybody. Not only does he always keep a great stock on his website, but he's also been sourcing vintage watches for Mr. Porter which is one of the most sophisticated collabs I've seen. Eric has a lot of projects in the works, like his help with the Rowing Blazers x Seiko watches (which you should be seeing another drop very soon), as well as his own podcast, Significant Watches which he shares with a great team. At the end of the day, Eric's one of the few people in the watch industry that not a single person has a bad thing to say in his regard. He's honest, friendly, knowledgeable, and someone I am grateful to have become friends with over the years. Please enjoy, this is Eric Wind for Collectors Gene Radio.- Aly & AJ Talking Watches - https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/talking-watches-with-aly-and-aj- Rowing Blazers x Seiko Collab - https://www.strictlyvintagewatches.com/hands-on-with-the-latest-rowing-blazers-x-seiko-releases- Significant Watches Podcast - https://www.strictlyvintagewatches.com/significant-watches-podcast

Fratello On Air is here and we're excited to discuss the recent Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute release and provide an interview with Fred Mandelbaum. Balazs and Mike are on the mics again talking travel. Tune in and listen to their latest experiences. That's right, Breitling came with a new Navitimer Cosmonaute in the form of a limited edition model. It's an interesting watch with an interesting build-up to its introduction. The introduction actually took place in Europe and there were some surprises. Enjoy the ride!Handgelenks KontrolleBefore hitting the new Navitimer Cosmonaute, Balazs and Mike do the usual with the Handgelenks Kontrolle. Balazs is wearing his beloved Eterna 852 and even shares a story related to the watch with his recent travels to Switzerland. Then, Mike brings out something he hasn't worn in quite a while — the IWC Aquatimer 3536.The Breitling Navitimer CosmonauteMike had the opportunity to spend a couple of nights in Zurich for a Breitling event which included the release of the new Navitimer Cosmonaute. Next, we discuss the watch, its story, and a fantastic collectors dinner that loads of friends attended. Listen hard and you'll even hear something from our friend Eric Wind — this sound byte will live on in eternity! Finally, enjoy a chat with Fred Mandelbaum where he shares some history about the original Cosmonaute. As always, thanks for listening, and feel free to let us know if there's anything you'd like us to discuss in future episodes.
In Episode 16, Eric Wind and Charlie Dunne speak with vintage watch expert and consultant to Breitling Fred Mandelbaum. The three discuss the public discovery of Scott Carpenter's Breitling Cosmonaute – the first Swiss wristwatch worn in space. Mandelbaum details his passion for Breitling's rich heritage and his experience working with the manufacturer since his initial phone call with Georges Kern back in 2017. As Mandelbaum mentions, doing a great re-release is simply not enough. The watches he is most proud of seeing developed are in fact not the re-editions but such models like the Chronomat. Mandelbaum elaborates on Georges Kern and Breitling's decision to directly involve collectors and stakeholders such as Gregory Breitling as being a monumental part of the brand's storytelling. Wind, Mandelbaum, and Dunne all shared the same impression that Carpenter's Breitling had a special presence. Mandelbaum would share his thoughts on why Scott Carpenter's Breitling Cosmonaute miraculously remained unrestored, in that it was likely a result of both Carpenter and Gregory Breitling's understanding that the timepiece was an artifact that both had no right to change. In perhaps the most poetic fashion, Mandelbaum shares his definition of a watch collector that left both Wind and Dunne speechless. Vintage watches have a unique desirability all their own. Their increasing scarcity, place in the history of watchmaking and design, and their perceived potential as investment pieces, mean Vintage collecting is an area best approached with sound knowledge. The first episode of the STANDARD H Podcast explored a brick and mortar business within the independent watch and fine jewelry world. Today’s guest is also in the world of watches, primarily focused on servicing those interested in collecting vintage timepieces. Eric Wind, owner of Wind Vintage operates a website displaying many of his watches, however, I feel the sweet spot for Eric is his personal relationships with collectors. He’s been in the watch game for a while now, namely having cut his teeth as a writer and contributor to HODINKEE. I sat down with Eric while in New York City this past June to discuss everything from writing speeches for Angelina Jolie, to now selling watches that cost six figures. We talk about golf, as well as cars - namely Porsche and how they may just parallel the watch market and Vice versa. It seems many of you are watch fans here, and this conversation really gets into the nitty gritty of the process behind buying a vintage timepiece from one of the more reputable vintage watch dealers today. So if you’re in the hunt, this should give you a bit of behind the scenes insight.
