On May 25, 2020, George Floyd walked into Cup Foods Store in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to buy cigarettes. He paid and walked out of the store. The store clerk believed the $20 bill Floyd used was counterfeit, so at 8pm he called the police. This is something Cup Foods employees had done a dozen times when they received what they believed to be counterfeit money. Officers Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Kueng were the first officers on scene. They handcuffed Floyd, who was sitting in his car outside of the Cup Foods with two other people. Soon thereafter, Officer Derek Chauvin (Army Reserve Veteran) and Officer Tou Thao arrived on scene. After a struggle, Floyd found himself face down in the pavement parallel to the squad car, with Officer Chauvin’s knee in his neck. Bystanders quickly began filming on their phones and they filmed a horrific act. Three police officers (Thomas Lane, J. Alexander Kueng, and Tou Thao) watched as 19-year police veteran Derek Chauvin placed his knee on Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. Screams of “check his pulse” erupt from the bystanders after Floyd stopped talking and moving, but the bystanders’ cries go unanswered. Floyd was pronounced dead at 9:25pm. Join Margot as she discusses the facts of the case and the charges against the four officers. -----All sources for this episode can be found here. Military Murder Merch – available here. Alexia Vernon is the author of Step Into Your Moxie: Amplify Your Voice, Visibility, and Influence in the World. She was branded the “Moxie Maven” by President Obama’s White House Office of Public Engagement for her approach to women’s empowerment. Alexia has been featured in CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, Forbes, Inc, European Business Review, and Women’s Health Magazine. In this episode, Alexia talks about how to connect to your empowerment, what to do when our businesses aren’t working, and who you should take advice and mentorship from. Radically Vibrant Alexia When we hesitate to speak up for ourselves, we’re not defined by those moments—they are opportunities for us to move away from our fear and into our empowerment Coming to meditation from a place of noise and insecurity makes us hit a wall so I add movement, get the blood flowing and then bring us back to that place of calm We tend to pivot when our business isn’t working but what we need is to find the little piece that isn’t working and then change that Radically Inspired Clarity Recognizing the moments where we are in self doubt is the first step to living in empowerment and visibility When we choose to serve, instead of seek ego driven external stimulation, our careers and lifestyles open up for us Get feedback and mentorship from people who live the lifestyle you want because they’ll understand you on the level that you need Alexia Answers… How can we become more integrated with our feelings of empowerment? What was the process of becoming a “moxie” look like for you? Where should we draw the line when something in our careers isn’t going the way that we intended? Radically Loved Quotes “When we let go of trying to change what happens and instead reclaim how we choose to speak to ourselves and others around us, that’s what ultimately determines how the rest of the chapters are going to go.” “The sensation of butterflies in our stomach is beckoning us into our next level of truth and visibility.” “For me resilience is a core value.” More About Our Guest Alexia Vernon is a speaker, leadership coach, and author of Step Into Your Moxie: Amplify Your Voice, Visibility, and Influence in the World. In this episode, Ashley explains how she stays transparent on social media, why she defines her goals as the minimum she needs—not the maximum that she wants, and why she’s isn’t in a rush for achievement. Radically Vibrant Ashley I don’t post anything on social media unless it’s adding value—inspiration, information, humor, or a community builder I set a timer for myself so I know how long I’ve been scrolling on social media Becoming a psychotherapist takes 3,000+ hours of working with clients—we understand the nature of the unconscious psychodynamics and that’s our value to our clients Radically Inspired Clarity We’re playing into this “not-enoughness” but...what if we switch the dialogue? Let’s redistribute that energy to practice contentment and practice non-striving Seeking shortcuts removes the richness and wisdom that comes from embodying our lessons and being patient with our learning A balance exists between an unhealthy social media routine and using it as a means to connect with our community and other entrepreneurs in our industry Ashley Answers… How do you stay mindful in the world of social media? What values are we showing younger generations by showing them achievement on social media? How do we cut through the noise of life coaches online and find true coaches that can provide value to us? Radically Loved Quotes “What is the minimum that you need to live off of? And let’s go with that as our goal or else we set ourselves up for things never being enough.” “We are voraciously consuming information and it’s feeding the beast, creating an insatiable hunger in society. We have to switch the whole game.” “As a coach, you can only take other people as far as you have gone.” More About Our Guest Ashley Turner is a licensed psychotherapist, yoga, and meditation teacher. Felicia has earned degrees in environmental biology, anthropology, and nursing and holds certifications in yoga, yoga therapy, and ayurveda. She’s spent her career working in cognitive neuroscience and plant biochemistry. In this episode, Felicia talks about how we digest at every level (physically, mentally, and spiritually), how often we should be practicing self care and detox, and why humans need to shift their focus to their breathe based off of our biology alone. Radically Vibrant Felicia After being introduced to Ayurveda, I realized that it’s the owner’s manual for the human body The practices of yoga cultivate, strengthen, and enhance our ability to digest ourselves, our souls, and the foods we eat I like to cultivate instances of positive peer pressure to shift people into their purpose Radically Inspired Clarity Yoga helps us deal with the heartbreak of what it means to be human—what are the tools, practices, and people that can soothe our soul? Detoxes are not a once in a while thing, they are a regular practice of detoxing our mind, body, and soul At the heart of love, is acceptance–acceptance for ourselves and of other people Felicia Answers… What is the biggest imbalance that we are suffering from right now? How can we utilize our breath for detoxifying? How have you cultivated a community? Radically Loved Quotes “When we are intentional with our breath it shifts so many things that we are experiencing, both that we are aware of and totally not aware of.” “Self care is not an add on. The detox is not the destination. What are we integrating into our every day is the self care and the detox.” “In yoga, there is so much focus on the breath because...it’s the only thing that we always have with us.” More About Our Guest Felicia Tomasko is a the President of Bliss Network and Editor-In-Chief of LA Yoga Magazine and Boston Yoga Magazine. Aside from her spiritual work, she is the host of So You Think You’re Intuitive Podcast. In this episode, Natalie explains how she discovered her spiritual gift and how to discern a real medium from a fake. We talk about discovering your passion and pursuing it fearlessly, regardless of what those around you think. Afterwards, Natalie explains how to improve our communication with our intuition and how to receive all of the answers we need from the universe. Radically Vibrant Natalie You have to do what lights you up and the right people will stay around you and support you Our lives are meant to light us up, if our heart isn’t thrilled about it, why are we doing it? My self care starts with setting boundaries and saying no to anything that doesn’t serve you Radically Inspired Clarity There is a letting go process while stepping into a spiritual awakening-letting go of people and experiences that don’t currently serve us Traumatic events shouldn’t be the only way we wake up to our intuition, we should allow our intuition to speak its truth through the small details of our lives When we demand an answer from the universe, we ask from a place of ego instead of the heart and we block ourselves from the answer Natalie Answers… What advice do you have for someone who wants to pursue a career that their family and friends don’t support? How do we improve communication with our intuition? How can we know that a spiritual medium is real and not a scam? Radically Loved Quotes “Why do we wait for the big things to happen to us to listen to our intuition?” “If it’s not a hell yes, it’s a hell no.” “When you put yourself first, that’s when all of the amazing stuff flows in.” More About Our Guest Natalie Miles is a spiritual guide and mentor and the host of So You Think You’re Intuitive Podcast. Carly Stein Radically Loved Podcast Carly Stein is the founder and CEO of Beekeeper’s Naturals. Her company creates products from bee products with a full focus on the conservation of bees. Carly was just named a member of the Forbes 30 under 30 list. In this episode, Carly talks about her experience leaving her stable 9-5 job and pursuing her dreams. She shows us the resilience and commitment it takes to commit to your passions and her understanding that she’s not the best at everything-but she’ll work hard for what she believes in and that’s what has created her success. Radically Vibrant Carly I found my passion by sitting down and creating a happiness spreadsheet with what I loved to do and again and again, bees kept coming up Without bees, the inflation on healthy foods will make them pretty close to inaccessible The universe conspires for people who follow their dreams, be one of them and the universe conspires for you Radically Inspired Clarity Creating your own startup is a test of purpose and how badly you want to live a life that is true to your passions and calling Commitment is superior to intelligence when it comes to creating a path for your dream career, relationship, and lifestyle Building routine can be really difficult, but it involves the same commitment as your passions Carly Answers… What hardships did you experience transitioning from a 9-5 to entrepreneurship? What’s is the biggest thing we’re doing to harm bees and how do we stop? What rituals do you have for yourself to keep yourself in a state of equilibrium? Radically Loved Quotes “Having a startup is about getting in touch with your gut, getting to know yourself and getting really good at cleaning up the messes you make.” “You don’t have to be the best or brightest. You just have to be prepared to put in the work, don’t give up and be resilient.” “No mistake is unfixable when you love yourself and trust yourself to get it right.” More About Our Guest Carly Stein is the founder and CEO of Beekeeper’s Naturals, a bee product company with a focus on bee conservation. Tim Ferris has been on a mission (http://tim.blog/podcast/) to deconstruct excellence his entire adult life. It began with his own relentless experimentation and documentation, which yielded #1 New York Times bestsellers The 4-Hour Workweek, The 4-Hour Body and The 4-Hour Chef.In more recent years, this yearning has led him to sit down with hundreds of elite-performers and share the conversations on his award-winning podcast (https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-tim-ferriss-show/id863897795?mt=2). Tim and I recorded a Good Life Project conversation back in 2016 which you can listen to here (http://www.goodlifeproject.com/tim-ferriss/).Today, we go in a very different direction. After the loss a number of close friends and mentors and passing the 40-year mark, Tim found himself in a contemplative and emotional space. In this week's conversation, we drop into the deep end of the pool quickly. When we sat down, he'd recently returned from an intensive 10-day silent meditation retreat. While gone, he lost yet another close friend. He was, in his own words, in an incredibly "porous" place, leading more from the heart than the head, which is a bit of a major turnaround for him.We spent time deconstructing Tim's 10-day silent meditation experience, his struggles and awakenings and contrasted it with his earlier psychedelic experiences. We also talked about his experience with death, his decision to append audio of his most recently departed friend, Terry Laughlin, which was recorded by Terry's daughters in the hospital during his final days of life to the end of Tim's recent podcast interview with Terry (https://tim.blog/2017/10/29/terry-laughlin/).We explore why he "threw out" the TED talk he'd prepared minutes before stepping onto the stage and, instead, talk about something deeply painful and personal from the heart. And, we explored Tim's awakening to a "softer" set of metrics to measure a life well-lived and his evolving definition of what it truly means to live a good life.I'm so excited to share this final "Best Of" episode of 2018, as a powerful prompt to explore ways to be more intentional and proactive in the year that awaits us.Check out our offerings & partners: Fabletics: Get 2 leggings for only $24 ($99 value) by visiting fabletics.com/GOODLIFERing: Get up to $150 off a Ring of Security Kit when you go to ring.com/GOODLIFE.Kneipp: Get 15% off your first order by going to Kneipp.com and use promo code GOODLIFE at checkout.
