That there is such beauty in deciding that you want to do something and going after it. And you are allowed to do that, you are allowed to try, and you are allowed to fail while you do it as well. You don't always have to succeed and that's ok. You're allowed to fail and to try again, and try again. And it doesn't mean that you, aren't good enough and you are not worthy, it just means you are a beginner and it's ok to be a beginner, so you are allowed to fail.” Social Media Find Sam on Instagram @SamOrtizPhoto At Climb Big, we're interested in making rock climbing and the outdoors more accessible to fat folx. Sam shares her experiences growing up as an active child and competitive diver. We talk about comparison, feeling that your body is wrong, and the subtle messages that are present in the diving world. As Sam got older and became more aware of her own body, she started forming an unhealthy relationship with food. This relationship became more complicated in college, as Sam studied opera performance and dealt with new body pressures. We discuss being judged, wanting to be the “cool girl”, and gaining weight. Sam then talks about her PhD and her work related to eating and bodies. She explains what drew her to this field, and the many lessons she's learned. Sam is knowledgeable about numerous topics, from eating disorder stigma to the issue of equating weight with health. One of her research studies involved making a mental model of our bodies, and found that certain people view specific sections of their bodies as much larger than they are. She also worked for a company that made a 3D body scanner in an attempt to give users an objective view of their bodies. Sam discusses the great potential for the scanner, but also explains the struggles of working in this environment. Finally, Sam talks about her current relationship with her body, and how a recent boudoir photoshoot was the best thing she's ever done for her body image. Great episode this week with Sam Goldberg. Sam is the producer of Silo the Film. Silo centers around a grain entrapment in rural America. However, it does more than bring awareness to farm safety. There are so many aspects of rural America caught in this film: family dynamics, stress on the farm, rural economy, cohesiveness in a rural community, et. al. We talk about Sam's background and how he came to be the driving force behind Silo. We then spend some time discussing the relationships that he formed while making this film and how he was so captivated by the people in Rural America. At the end of the show, we did something different and did a "post interview' with Sam after I had the opportunity to watch the film. I wanted to discuss in greater detail some of the family dynamics captured in the film. So thankful for my connection with Sam and I'm very excited to see where he goes with Silo and other projects. Samantha’s mission was realized in 2014, when she founded Hungry for Happiness, a movement that helps people experience true transformation and happiness through trained certified coaches who utilize emotional and energetic coaching techniques. Hungry for Happiness has provided unique and accessible recovery resources to those suffering in silence. In 2018, Samantha launched her second company, Pause Breathwork, with a mission to unite humanity by helping people breathe, feel, and thrive. Through her companies, Samantha has revolutionized the weight loss and self-help industries by providing sustainable solutions that challenge the “Band-Aids on bullet wounds” methodology that has long been the industry standard. She works with clients to examine the individual and underlying causes of food, body, and self-love issues, and in doing so, has transformed the lives of tens of thousands of women in over 30 countries around the world by helping them conquer their struggles once and for all.
