Listen to the full discussion here: https://integrallife.com/its-not-easy-being-turquoise-jim-henson-muppets-and-art-integral-puppetry Steve Whitmire spent 14 intense and creative years with the extraordinary Jim Henson before his passing. As of 2008, Steve has been the animating force behind, most notably, Kermit the Frog, for nearly two decades. This was not something Steve planned for in any way. Jim passed away at the age of 53 from an infection that no one could have seen coming—although it later became revealed that Jim had been considering Steve for the puppeteer of Kermit, so that Jim could explore other creative endeavors. However, their connection had started decades earlier. When Steve was a scant 10-years-old, he wrote Jim a letter to express his appreciation for his work, and to ask if he had written anything on the construction of puppets. In fact, Jim had not written anything on the construction of puppets at that time, but responded personally to Steve's letter, and directed him toward some simple Muppet patterns that had been published a few years ago in a magazine. Thus started the career of a life-long Jim Henson puppeteer, aided by Steve's mother's sewing machine. As Ken comments, puppeteering can be, and has been, looked at by the world's great Mystical Traditions as a metaphor for ultimate Spirit being the transcendental Puppeteer of all worldly phenomena. And there is much truth in that observation. Spirit, if nothing else, inhabits a massive number of multiple perspectives, and in order to perform puppeteering successfully, one literally inhabits, and becomes one with, the puppet's personality. It is a minor re-enaction of what Spirit does moment-to-moment spontaneously, throughout the entire Kosmos. As with Jim Henson, Steve Whitmire is a very humble soul. If nothing else, Steve is honored to carry on a tradition started by a modern-day master, by whatever name. Jim's productions have been among the most successful television series in history: Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, and Fraggle Rock were all international sensations. Sesame Street alone has aired more than 4,100 episodes over a 38-season run, winning 109 Emmy Awards in the process—and it's still going. To say that Steve is a modern-day backbone of the Muppet tradition is in no way an exaggeration. You may not see his face, but you can see Steve animating Kermit the Frog in a musical duo with Kylie Minogue on YouTube, along with many other notable appearances. Kermit the Frog was, and is, a public, (inter)national expression of the pluralistic, green worldview—but always with a subtle reminder of how multicultural expressions can be reconciled and brought together with an Integral View. It may not be easy being green, but it's ever harder being teal (where an Integral understanding begins and expands). With the spirit of growth that Jim Henson embodied and intuited, and that Steve Whitmire carries on in an evolutionary context with a clearly Integral perspective, we invite you to celebrate this artistic and creative dimension of puppetry, and the “taking the perspective of other” that it implies, in this one-of-a kind-dialogue…. David Wright and Mark Radulich present their The Muppets ABC 2015 TV Review! The Muppets (stylized as the muppets.) is an American sitcom that originally aired on ABC from September 22, 2015, to March 1, 2016. Co-created by Bill Prady and Bob Kushell, the series was produced by ABC Studios and The Muppets Studio, with Randall Einhorn and Muppet performer Bill Barretta serving as executive producers alongside Prady and Kushell. On May 12, 2016, ABC cancelled the series after one season. The series is set in Los Angeles and depicts the everyday personal and professional lives of The Muppets during production of Up Late with Miss Piggy, a fictional late-night talk show starring Miss Piggy. The Muppets serves as a parody of other mockumentary-style series, such as The Office, Modern Family, and Parks and Recreation by employing the same single-camera setup filming style with the implication of a documentary crew filming everyone. The series stars Muppet performers Steve Whitmire, Eric Jacobson, Dave Goelz, Bill Barretta, David Rudman, Matt Vogel, and Peter Linz in multiple roles.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsosnapchat: markkind76FB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulich

Our Christmas extravaganza continues with The Muppet Christmas Carol, which is summarized by Samantha as “A bad dude is visited by 3 ghosts, it scares him, and he becomes nice.” It combines 2 beloved worlds and we discuss the existence of an afterlife, the birth of Christmas traditions, fantastic performances from Michael Caine and several muppets, and why this movie inexplicably works. The Muppet Christmas Carol is a 1992 Christmas musical comedy directed by Brian Henson (in his feature directorial debut) from a screenplay by Jerry Juhl. Adapted from the 1843 novella A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, it stars Michael Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge, alongside Muppet performers Dave Goelz, Steve Whitmire, Jerry Nelson, and Frank Oz. Although artistic license is taken to suit the aesthetic of the Muppets, The Muppet Christmas Carol otherwise follows Dickens's original story closely.[4] It is the fourth theatrical film in The Muppets franchise, and the first to be produced following the deaths of the Muppets creator Jim Henson and the performer Richard Hunt; the film is dedicated to both. The film was released in the United States on December 11, 1992, by Buena Vista Pictures Distribution. It received modest box office success and mostly positive reviews. It is the first Muppets film to be produced by Walt Disney Pictures, whose parent company would later acquire the Muppets franchise in 2004.

You know it's a great day in The Batter's Box when you're talking about The Muppets, the New York Yankees, and Broadway all within the same hour. However, one might venture that's par for the course when the legendary Fran Brill steps up to the plate! Brill's career as an actress on stage and screen spanned more than 40 years. As one of the original Muppet performers, her body of work is marked by a phenomenal ability to create characters, brilliant comedic wit, and ultimately, as a pioneer. She was the very first female performer hired by Jim Henson and she helped pave the way for women puppeteers everywhere. Her many credits with The Muppets include The Muppet Show, The Jim Henson Hour, and of course, Sesame Street, where she brought Prairie Dawn and Zoe to life and into the hearts of children all across the globe. This week, Brill dives deep with host Al Malafronte to look back on the legacy she's authored and how it still remains as prominent as ever. It's with good reason that her work has endured through the years, as the way she brought such a huge part of herself to Prairie Dawn ranks up there with any example of character development in Muppet history. There are also many never-been-told stories in this conversation, spanning anything from her first Muppet project (The Great Santa Claus Switch) to nearly losing Zoe on a train to the pre-game ritual she shared with Steve Whitmire before each Sesame Street shooting day. Brill also candidly discusses her decision to retire in 2014, which parallels Mickey Mantle's choice to step away from baseball amid a changing game and guard of teammates. A big sports fan in her own right, she also offers her takes on Alex Rodriguez's behavior off the field, and discusses some of her favorite moments at the ballpark. Ep19 Positive Cinematic Spotlight: The Muppet Christmas Carol

AFS Wolf Den

Welcome back, Wolf Pack, to another Positive Cinematic Spotlight! Winter break is right around the corner and I was wondering… what is your favorite Christmas movie? Is it a classic like It's a Wonderful Life or Miracle on 34th Street? Is it an unconventional Christmas movie like Die Hard, Gremlins, or Batman Returns? Maybe a classic TV special like Charlie Brown's Christmas or How the Grinch Stole Christmas? Mine is 1992's The Muppet Christmas Carol. There are a lot of things going on with this adaptation which cement it as my “must watch” for every Christmas Eve. I grew up watching The Muppet Show on TV and loved it, so there's a nostalgic pull. As a lover of literature, the adaptation of one of the most adapted Christmas novels ever, written by Charles Dickens, has a place in reasons why I enjoy this movie so much. More than just that, however, is that this adaptation includes the narrator, played by Gonzo playing Charles Dickens himself, and he quotes parts of the original text as the narrator. Then, of course, he gets interrupted by Rizzo the Rat with comedic effect. Also, the film came out in 1992, the year I graduated high school and started college, so it was a time of great change in my life, and that sense of nostalgia was all the stronger for it. Now, finding positive messages in a Christmas movie is pretty easy as almost all wear their positive themes on their sleeves, unless you go with unconventional Christmas movies. Is there positivity in Gremlins? Absolutely, but you have to chisel past the surface of irresponsibility and comedic horror which spans the majority of the movie. So, when we look at an easy mark like The Muppet Christmas Carol for a positive message, I try and find something kind of hidden. With any adaptation of A Christmas Carol, the story has been seen so much and interpreted so many times it's hard to find something new. But when I was researching the movie, I discovered something of which I was not aware. I knew this was the first Muppet project after Jim Henson, the creator of the Muppets, died in 1990. What I didn't know was that the new voice for Muppet front man, or front frog, Kermit the Frog, Steve Whitmire was nervous about taking over the role made internationally famous by Jim Henson. The night before they were to start shooting the movie, Whitmire had a dream in which he was visited by Jim Henson coming from an all white hotel. Whitmire confessed his anxiety to Henson in his dream and Henson responded in a way which those who knew him were very familiar: “It will pass.”Whitmire was assuaged by the message from Henson and was more at ease when shooting began. That story struck me as we head to the end of 2020. “It will pass.” This has been a difficult year with viruses, politics, worries about how to handle returning to school in a manner that both considers the needs of students as well as teachers, administrators, and every member of a school district's staff. But these concerns will pass. We treat midnight, that moment when December 31, 2020 passes the baton to January 1, 2021 as a chance to change, to try things differently. But we also know that it's an arbitrary moment as we constructed the calendar we use to designate the new year. Before the current Julian calendar, with the Roman calendar there were 10 months and the new year started on March 1. Will all of our concerns from the past year evaporate on January 1? Of course not, but if the date change helps give you a starting point, go for it, and make that change. We have minimal effect, individually, on things like the virus, the direction the government we go in, and addressing all concerns with how the school year should proceed (we don't have the manpower or money to do all the options to appease everyone.). But we have 100% control over how we respond. What can you do to help yourself handle the stresses of teaching in a pandemic world? Be sure to reflect on the positives, because 2020 was hard, but there wer

Kevin Clash, Terri Hardin, John Kennedy, and Jane Gootnick join Gene & Bill.   ABOUT OUR GUESTS: Jane Gootnick With college degrees in both acting and set design Jane first moved to Europe working in Belgium and London. In the mid-70's she moved to NYC working with alternative theatre groups (LaMama, Joe Papp's Public Theatre). Jane became head sculptor at Brooks Van Horn Costume Co. making props, masks and creatures for a large variety of venues: Broadway shows (Sweeney Todd, Dracula, Peter Pan), feature films (The Wiz, Hair), Warner Bros walkarounds, commercials, Ringling Bros Circus, and the first four seasons of Saturday Night Live. In 1978, the costume designer for SNL mentioned that the Jim Henson Company was looking for sculptors for a film called The Dark Crystal and suggested she interview. Jane was offered three weeks work to build a prototype support harness for the Skeksis they were developing. So, she left her three-year full-time job for three weeks of work at Henson's and stayed 40 years! Jane has worked in both the New York puppet shop and the London Creature Shop throughout the years. Designing/building puppets and creatures, supervising builds, and running workshops on location for Muppet/Henson films and TV series, (Dark Crystal, Muppet Show, Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, Labyrinth, The Storyteller, The Witches, Ninja Turtles, Dinosaurs, Muppets Tonight, The Muppets, etc.). She has also worked on a variety of talk shows, game shows, and awards shows (Oscars, Grammys, Hollywood Bowl and many more). Jane is an art director for print and media photoshoots, film posters and endless fashion shoots with Miss Piggy with Louis Vuitton, Prada and other diva designers.   Steve Whitmire Jim Henson invited Steve Whitmire to join his team in 1978 during the height of the popularity of The Muppet Show, and Whitmire had a hand in virtually every Muppet project for nearly four decades. He originated such characters as Rizzo the Rat, Lips the Trumpet Man, Miss Piggy's dog Foo-Foo, and Bean Bunny, and also sustained Richard Hunt's characters, the hapless lab assistant Beaker and codger Statler after Hunt's death in 1992. Upon Henson's death in 1990, Whitmire accepted the duty for the continuation of several of Jim's characters and is best known for his 24-years as Ernie and his 27-years as Kermit the Frog. Projects include Sesame Street and non-Muppet films such as The Dark Crystal, The Witches, Dreamchild and Labyrinth, as well as the popular sitcom Dinosaurs and the classic 1980's television series Fraggle Rock in which Whitmire originated Wembley Fraggle and Sprocket the Dog. After 19 films, 8 television series, numerous specials, multiple sound recordings, and volumes of unique live appearances, Whitmire carries forth the essential principles of the lineage as the foundation for a progressive approach to the art of puppetry in today's world and looks forward to sharing that spirit in his future endeavors. www.stevewhitmire.website   Leif Tilden Leif Tilden watched his mother drink herself into a deep depression while living with her in Berkeley California during the late 60's free love movement.   After her suicide he moved to Boston Massachusetts where he grew up in a segregated environment where the Irish, Italian and black neighborhoods beat each other up daily. Eventually he would find himself studying experimental theatre in New York City where he discovered his vulnerability through movement and the incredible falafel sandwich. Soon after that, which to him seems like a dream, he found himself inside the soul of a Teenage mutant ninja turtle.  Life was good. Soon after that he drove across country for a minimum wage job on a tv show entitled, Dinosaurs for Disney.  Life was not good and Leif will explain the details as to why on the show.   Day Murch Day worked in the theatre for many years, as a performer in Liquid Theatre, with Stomu Yamashtas Red Buddha Theatre, and the Young Vic, with appearances in provincial rep and the West End, gradually commuting a hobby of designing and making clothes into a career. An early introduction on Time Bandits to the Monty Python team led to a specialist interest in the care and presentation of difficult costumes, with work on The Meaning Of Life, Greystoke, Legend and Fifth Element and several projects for Jim Hensons London Creature Shop. This led in time to making this type of costume and he headed the Fabrication Unit for Nick Dudmans Department of Magical Creatures for the initial Harry Potter Movies, building Hagrid and other fantasticals. In children's television he helped create characters for In The Night Garden , BoohBahs and Zingzillas. He enjoyed a longterm association with the Batman franchise as Batsuit Wrangler with all the Caped Crusaders except Adam West! Now happily retired with his life partner in Wales, he doesn't miss show business.   Bruce Lanoil Bruce ”B” Lanoil, spawned in Brooklyn N.Y., raised on steady diet of Saturday morning Cartoons, Sugary cereals, Mad Magazines, Jerry Lewis and Classic Star Trek, is today, a proud and grateful 30 year veteran Muppeteer,.. Got my degree in French and went straight into making clothes and cotumes for dancers, musicians, strippers, and royalty. Bill Wyman, David Bowie, Freddy Mercury, Jimmy Page, Princess Margaret, were some of the people I dressed. Through friends I started working in films and tv., Time Bandits, The Meaning of Life and Labyrinth were early jobs. Labyrinth led to Mother Goose Stories and an Emmy, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and then Dinosaurs! So after 20 years I in London I came to Los Angeles. Since then I have worked on a lot of Superhero films, from Batman to Avengers and Guardians. I seem to have made a lot of capes! Batman to Thor and many in between.

It is the first Muppets film to be produced by Walt Disney Pictures, whose parent company acquired the Muppets franchise in 2004.Spielbinge: Bridge of SpiesPops Corner: Entertainment NewsMain Review: "The Muppets Christmas Carol"Branden's Joystick: Comics, Anime and Video GamesBaldBox The Golden GirlsJoin our Man Bites Media Family every Friday as we bring you 5 films each week and the latest movie news.www.ManBitesFilm.com#Comedy #Horror #Netflixmovies #Amazonprime #Hulumovies #Luislacau #Manbitesmedia #Manbitesfilm #Brandenlacau #williamphoenix #Hulu #Shudder #Netflixoriginal #Hulu #Scifi #Comedies #Dramaseries #mbm #podcast #fandom #nerds #geeks #Rushhour

Steve Whitmire steps into the Batter’s Box for Episode 60 of Break a Bat! Here on Broadway, we have a deep appreciation for artists who master the ability to create characters. Over the course of a 40-plus year career in show business, few have done this better than Steve Whitmire. Whitmire got his start with The Muppets in 1978 as a lead puppeteer alongside Jim Henson on The Muppet Show. It was there he originated the wise-cracking New Yorker, Rizzo the Rat, and he would then go on to perform in nearly every Henson project thereafter including Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, and all of the major Muppet films. After Jim Henson’s passing in 1990, Whitmire was tapped as the man to succeed him as the performer of Kermit the Frog, as well as Ernie on Sesame Street. Whitmire’s incredible body of work shines particularly bright here in New York City, and what makes this chat unique from some of Whitmire’s previous interviews is the special focus on various projects he helped create in the Big Apple. Whether it be working on one the ultimate films about Broadway in The Muppets Take Manhattan, Sesame Street, or the many Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parades that he performed in, his stories and insight are truly incredible. One story that provided some particularly big laughs actually came via Whitmire's time at Yankee Stadium, when he was invited to perform with Kermit at Yankees' Opening Day in 2012. He also dives deep into how he channeled the necessary technique and craft in order to not only perform Kermit, Ernie, and Rizzo, but develop them as living entities in the world.  Another key talking point in our conversation was the current state of The Muppets. While Whitmire was performing his characters through 2016, he was truly one of the key players in keeping Jim Henson’s legacy and lineage tradition alive with The Muppets. Today, Whitmire’s thoughts on what it would take to bring the franchise back to what it was built upon echo those of other prominent creatives who worked closest with Jim Henson, and really hits home for those who believe in the purity of the characters. He even discusses a definitive project he’s developed that could very well re-introduce The Muppets to a new generation of viewers under a promising new executive at The Muppets Studio. While Whitmire has accomplished nearly everything one can in puppetry, he still continues to do phenomenal work with his own character Weldon the I.T. Guy on the CAVE-iN series, in which he created and also stars in. The series serves as a live streaming platform for viewers to interact with his character, and very much captures the brilliance of his work that he’s become known for throughout his distinguished career. Adapted from Charles Dickens's 1843 novella A Christmas Carol, it is the fourth theatrical film to feature the Muppets, and the first to be produced following the death of Muppets creator Jim Henson in May 1990. The film was directed by Brian Henson in his directorial debut from a screenplay by Jerry Juhl, and stars Michael Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge, alongside Muppet performers Dave Goelz, Steve Whitmire, Jerry Nelson, and Frank Oz portraying various roles, including Gonzo narrating the film as Dickens and Kermit the Frog as Bob Cratchit. This episode we head to Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World for The Muppets Present…Great Moments In American History.  Located in the Liberty Square section of the park, The Muppets do retellings of famous moments from American History in the windows above Liberty Square’s Heritage House and The Hall of Presidents.  Because this is a show there are no age or height restrictions to view it. Before we get an education in American History from Sam The Eagle, here are five fast facts about The Muppets Presents…Great Moments in American History. 1.  The show debuted at the Magic Kingdom on October 2, 2016.  Great Moments in History features two alternating famous historical retellings.  The retelling of the Declaration of independence features the human character of Liberty Square’s Town Crier, James Jefferson or JJ for short, who solicits interactions from the crowd gathered to watch the show.  The other show centers around the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere and stars the Muppets on their own. 2.   The show began development in 2014 after the release of Muppets Most Wanted.  Originally the show was just going to feature Sam The Eagle on his own but it was decided that the show would be more fun if the other Muppet characters were added in. 3. Because the bulk of Muppets’ performance takes place in the second story windows of Liberty Square’s Heritage House, the Muppets puppets are built 5% bigger than they normally would be for film and television in order to be properly seen by audiences watching from below. 4.  Longtime Muppet script writer, Jim Lewis, was brought in to polish the scripts for the show to make sure they fit with the classic Muppet sensibility. 5. Though they are not doing the puppeteering themselves, the voices of the Muppets are provided by longtime Muppet performers Steve Whitmire as Kermit, Eric Jacobson as Sam The Eagle, Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear and Dave Goelz as Gonzo. Now let’s head to Liberty Square to hear The Muppets retelling of two great moment of american history, the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere and The Signing of the Declaration of independence.  And be sure to Stay tuned afterwards  to hear my thoughts on these shows.  As always, this is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we head to the Magic Kingdom for The Muppets Present…Great Moments in American History. Steve Whitmire - It's Not Easy Being Teal. Part 1. The Performer Behind the World’s Most Famous Frog Recounts Coming to an Integral View. click here for free sample! (right-click to download) The Muppet famous for saying "It’s not easy being green," carries on the creative tradition founded by Jim Henson in Steve Whitmire’s puppeteering of this international figure with a decidedly more Integral tilt. WhoSteve Whitmire is one of the few individuals who has carried on the whole-hearted legacy of Jim Henson, and the mastery and development of puppetry through Jim’s unique Muppets. Since the passing of Jim Henson in 1990, Steve has served as the animating force and puppeteer for beloved characters such as Kermit the Frog and Sesame Street’s Ernie.SummarySteve Whitmire spent 14 intense and creative years with the extraordinary Jim Henson before his passing. As of 2008, Steve has been the animating force behind, most notably, Kermit the Frog for nearly two decades. In fact, Jim had not written anything on the construction of puppets at that time, but responded personally to Steve’s letter, and directed him toward some simple Muppet patterns that had been published a few years ago in a magazine. Thus started the career of a life-long Jim Henson puppeteer, aided by Steve’s mother’s sewing machine. As Ken comments, puppeteering can be, and has been, looked at by the world’s great Mystical Traditions as a metaphor for ultimate Spirit being the transcendental Puppeteer of all worldly phenomena. And there is much truth in that observation. Spirit, if nothing else, inhabits a massive number of multiple perspectives, and in order to perform puppeteering successfully, one literally inhabits, and becomes one with, the puppet’s personality. Jim’s productions have been among the most successful television series in history: Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, and Fraggle Rock were all international sensations. Sesame Street alone has aired more than 4,100 episodes over a 38-season run, winning 109 Emmy Awards in the process—and it’s still going. It may not be easy being green, but it’s ever harder being teal (where an Integral understanding begins and expands). With the spirit of growth that Jim Henson embodied and intuited, and that Steve Whitmire carries on in an evolutionary context with a clearly Integral perspective, we invite you to celebrate this artistic and creative dimension of puppetry, and “taking the perspective of other” that it implies, in this one-of-a kind-dialogue…. "Jim walked into the room and said, ‘I want to do a show that will change the world and end war'—and the writers said, 'Well that’s great Jim, how could we possibly do that?' We didn’t know, but Fraggle Rock was the first ever international coproduction of any television show...." (Click here for full dialogue.)
